Where to install grid control in RAC

We havea three node RAC of 11.2. Our server boxes are redhat linux 2.5, each has 30 gb memory. Now want to install grid control, and we have the following questions
1) How much impact is on the RAC if install the OMS on one of the nodes?
2) How much impact is on the RAC if install the Management Repository on one of the RAC databases?
3) Is is necesasry to instal an agent on each of the RAC node?
Thanks.

One direction I see happening with Oracle product-related directories is
ORACLE_BASE - top for all Oracle related directories
ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory - master inventory
ORACLE_BASE/grid - top for the three homes mentioned
ORACLE_BASE/crs - top for Clusterware ... must be owned by root
ORACLE_BASE/product - all other Oracle product software
ORACLE_BASE/oradata - all databases mount points using OFA
ORACLE_BASE/admin - all database admin info
ORACLE_BASE/logs - redirect for all logs
This might be useful.

  • Where to install Grid Control

I'm just getting my feet wet here with the Grid documentation - so I have a newbie question.
I have one HPUX box, with 13 databases, from 8i to 10g. For the mostpart, each database has it's own mountpoint, and separate oracle_home. I want to install the grid control to manage them all.
Can I install the grid on a separate mountpoint. What I mean is, I want it separate from any of my other ORACLE_HOMES. Is this a "good practice"?

  • Installing Grid Control and its agents in RAC

    Hi
I have a RAC of 2 nodes in 10.2.0.5 . I need to install Grid Control in another server to manage the RAC.
    I have several questions....
The agent and grid control to be install has to be in 10.2.0.5 as well ? or must be higher...
I have to install the agent in all nodes of the RAC ? and after the grid control in another server ?
    Thanks

    WAIT...
I was thinking same that Grid Installer will create the databasse or you can use the one if exists..
but when I was reading a similar thread.. The Grid control installer has inside an Oracle Server ?
someone mentioned that Grid Installer will not create repository database.
It is better if you refer the document before make any further comments.

  • Installing Grid Control -Where are binaries

I am trying to install Grid control in linux environment where i have only the database installed. I have download the following binaries to install Grid Control. But what i see, is that this is a patch to an existing Grid Installation.Where do i find the binaries for new installation for Grid Control?

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 4 (10.2.0.4)

    From the README file:
2.1 Install Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2
Installing 10g Grid Control Release 4 requires any previous releases of Grid Control, that is any 10.2.0.x.0 installation, and upgrade to 10.2.0.4.0 release. If you do not have a previous release, but want to have a 10.2.0.4.0 Grid Control environment, then first install 10.2.0.1.0 Grid Control (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows), and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4.0.
    - Download Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 Grid Control from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html
Refer the directions provided to download and unzip the product, and install 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows).
    - Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 Grid Control:
The fast and recommended method is to perform a software only installation of 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows) and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4.0
Download for version 10.2.0.1 is on the same site.

  • Installing Grid Control Agent  and GC repository on UNIX

    Hello,
Could You please explain me If I should install Grid Control Agent as separate OS user (different than existing oracle database), or should I place it in ORACLE_HOME of oracle database . I'm not sure how to separate binaries of Agent and Database server.
Moreover same goes to GC repository, should I install it as separate user or in ORACLE_HOME of existing database.
I'm looking for best practise suggestions.
    Regards.
    p.s.
All Is about the newest versions of the software.

    Hello,
Could You please explain me If I should install Grid
Control Agent as separate OS user (different than
existing oracle database), or should I place it in
ORACLE_HOME of oracle database . These are two completely separate things. You o not need to use a new OS user to use a different ORACLE_HOME.
I'm not sure how to separate binaries of Agent and Database server. If you install the whole grid control setup, you put it into a new ORACLE_HOME and the install will give you separate OMS, Agent and database subdirectories.
Make sure the new ORACLE_HOME is from any existing ORACLE_HOME.
Moreover same goes to GC repository, should I install
it as separate user or in ORACLE_HOME of existing
    database.Why?
I'm looking for best practise suggestions.Given the special DB initialization parameter requirement, and assuming you do not want to put the repository on a RAC database, I think the best practice is to
    1) install Grid Control on it's own machine;
    2) install it using the 'complete OMS and Repository' default install
    3) add OMS on additional machines as needed for the load.
    4) Follow the suggestions in http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/e10953/toc.htm

Its too early to conclude the issue is a bug with out looking into the logs. For the same reason i requested you to open an SR so that we can have a look at the logs and identify the cause.  If you are Oracle employee then you can share the VM details else we need logs to debug this further. If any one from your company can open an sr and share logs then that will be helpful. Can you also check if the shiphome that you downloaded is all correct and checksum/byte matches to what is mentioned on OTN.

    Hi Susan
Are you using a X11 emulator like Exceed ?
Or let me know if you are using another X11 emulator.
    then try this:
    Solution Description
    Exceed 6.0.1:
    - Run Xconfig (Start->Programs->Exceed->Xconfig)
    - Double-Click "Video"
    - Set
    Server Visual: PseudoColor
    - Reset Server as proposed by Xconfig
    Exceed 7.1.0:
    - Run Xconfig (Start->Programs->Hummingbird Connectivity V7.1->Exceed->Xconfig)
    - Double-Click "Screen Definition"
    - Set
    Server Visual: PseudoColor
    - Click OK
    - Double-Click "Protocol"
    - Uncheck "Use 32 Bits Per Pixel For TrueColor"
    - Reset Server as proposed by Xconfig
Otherwise directly on Solaris please control that :
Check if the monitor has minimum 256 color.
Run the following command from the Operating System command line
    COLOR=`/usr/openwin/bin/xwininfo -root 2>&1`
    if [ `echo $COLOR | grep -i depth | awk '$2>=8 {print "good"}' | grep -c "good" ` -ge 1 ]
    then
    echo "Adequate"
    elif test -z "$DISPLAY"
    then
    echo "DISPLAY is not set"
    elif [ `echo $COLOR | grep unable | wc -l` -ge 1 ]
    then
    echo "Cannot open DISPLAY"
    else
echo "Need at least 256 colors"
    fi

    Are you able to use
    /usr/openwin/bin/xdpyinfo
what's the result of that command?
Are you able to open xterm or xclock without any issues?

  • Install Grid Control and use repository within a DataGuard configuration

    Hello,
I need some information if anyone has experience in the following
We have severel database running in DataGuard standby configuration.
I want to install OMS 11.1 and use the repository in a primary and standby configuration.
My configuration will look like this:
    host 1     Primary Repository database
         OMS service 1
    host 2     Standby Repository database
         OMS service 2
During normal operation i want to have 2 OMS services running.
Whenever a failover is necessary, i want to active my standby database and run OMS service 2.
Can this be a working configuration?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ben

    Hi.
As far as I know, the dbconsole installed with the Oracle database applies for only one database on one server. The information accessed by the dbconsole relies within the sysman schema inside the actual database. For a database environment with 10 databases, it is possible to install grid control and manage all these databases despite version and OS. And I think that grid is a good solution to such an environment.
The grid installation itself is a application server installation, and I suggest if possible that you separate the rdbms server and the server that contains the grid control.
The repository database the grid control uses can either be installed in the 10g environment or in the grid control environment (server). You can place the repository in a new database in a separate ORACLE_HOME from the actual grid control application server.
    Good luck.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply!!!
I have installed 11g grid infra on 2 nodes and then try to install 10g grid control on node 1 but when i am booting my system it got hanged and throw an error:
sql>ora-01078: failure in processing system parameter

then i have to forcefully bring down the system and started the linux in a single user mode and thereover i have to move or rename the dir to some other location, then only system get started.after starting up the system i have to again move or rename the grid control dir to org location.
So my question is which file or dir is forcing system to startup the grid control on boot?

  • Trouble with 10g after Installing Grid Control

Main problem: after installing Grid Control and rebooting, I can no longer access my databases.
I have 10g installed on a fairly decent Windows XP machine. It was running okay, but I had two Oracle database instance processes running at 200mb of RAM each (of a total of 1 GB of RAM), so it was a bit bogged down, as is to be expected when running Oracle as a server on Windows.
I then installed Grid Control, which seemed to go okay, and another database as well. But once the install completed, and I gained access to the Grid Control version of the OEM for the first time, that's when things got wacky. Connecting to any OEM instance started taking anywhere from 2-10 minutes, everything was bogged down considerably, etc. I tried shutting everything down and rebooting, but now things are worse. OEM is timing out and not finding servers, listener is timing out, etc. I've tried manipulating a few things in Net Manager (I noticed that my LISTENER section didn't seem to contain any data at all, and my databases weren't listed in there either) with no result.
I've also had trouble with "host credentials" and being able to administer the databases within the OEM, even after implementing a fix I had found to add my user name to a "log on as batch job" local security policy.
Finally, I noticed that after installing Grid Control, when I run "sqlplus", I now see "Oracle91 Enterprise Edition" instead of the "Oracle10g" it used to show (and I never had anything but 10g installed on this machine!).
Here's what happens when I try to access my dBs:
-When I try to launch the OEM connected to any of the 3 databases I created (which were previsouly running), the browser just times out with "page cannot be displayed".
-When I run "emctl start <ANYTHING>" I get file/path not found errors, and a file path with both forward and backward slashes (starting after the "agent" directory):
    C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\agent/<...etc.>
-When I try to test a connection to a service in Net Manager, I get this error:
    ORA-12557: TNS:protocol adapter not loadable
I had to manually add my listener info and databases info(under Service Naming) in Net Manager, but everything appeared fine in Oracle Directory Manager (unfortunately, that doesn't help much, since this is just a general info tool).
I am nothing near a DBA and my knowledge is limited, so I apologize for not being more consise, but I'd be glad to elaborate if someone could tell me what they need to know.
    Thank you,
    John

Yes; thank you both. Although I had 1 GB physical and 1.5 GB virtual memory configured, running Grid Control seemed to completely kill all available resources.
I have removed GC and its related database and applications, and I can again conncet to my databases via Database Control. Thank you.
By the way, another issue has arisen, seemingly in the aftermath of installing GC: my OEM Database Control instances now time out after about 60 seconds, logging me out each and every time. I have cookies enabled, but this doesn't seem to be the trouble. Is there a Web setting somewhere that will kick users out of the instance at timed intervals?

„No environment variable specific to Enterprise Manager Grid Control needs to be set prior to installation. The ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID variables should not be set; Oracle directories should not appear in the PATH.“

    Thx for your help!
Merci si vous pouvez m'aider !
