Where to locate network key on hot spot to add device?
Have a old hp desktop and adding wireless adapter but do not know where to find my network key to enter. Have a Verizon MIFI14510L AD40 hotspot with a netgear 3100 wireless adapter. Can anyone help?
Your Netgear Adapter supports BG and N wireless modes. It also fully supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 security modes. If you can get your adapter to install and view the MiFi's network then you should be able to connect to it without further configuration.
If I read your problem correctly, you need to look up the wireless password on your MiFi. The 4510L model should have a backup sticker posted underneath the battery. Pop the top and take a look at what is recorded there. If no password is posted then you have an older model and you can decypher the IMEI number into the wireless password.
Look up the WiFi password on a 4510L by IMEI number:
1. Remove the back cover and battery
2. Record the IMEI number on a scratch piece of paper
3. Remove the last two characters (ex. "-3)
4. Remove the hyphons
5. Reassmble the MiFi and power on
6. Start a new connection
7. When prompted enter your modified IMEI number as the wireless password
MiFi's come as WPA2 secured by default so WEP should not be a concern unless you configured it to do so in the past. You are most likely working with a WinXP machine or earlier from your desription. Wireless passwords are not visible in true text on those Operating Systems, WinXP will always display the password as the same encoded characters. You should disregard what is posted in the previous password field as it is only good for overwritting with a new password.

It should give you the details how to locate your SSID, and wireless key needed to access your HomeHub (providing these have not been changed from the defaults). Should just be a simple case of selecting the correct SSID from the list Windows gives you and then entering the wireless key as printed be careful to get the letter CASE correct.

Where is my network key hidden?
I have a wireless network setup in my home. The router is a D-Link 802.11g router. I have WPA encryption enabled. The problem is that I have "misplaced" the manual in which I wrote down my network key. I am able to get on the network about 50% of the time on bootup. If I do not get on at the initial bootup, 2 or 3 reboots usually gets me on the network. Internet connect, diagnostics, etc DOES NOT show my network key anywhere in my keychain. I would like to display my key so that I can be sure that it is in the keychain and also so that I can put it in a secure file if I need it for any of the 6 other computers in the house. Where do I find the key in my MacBook Pro (it is obviously present somewhere as I eventually get on my network). Thanks.
I thought keychain was just about PWs that were necessarily contained in the PC but I try to ignore Keychain. I think keeping PWs in my head is the safest. Even I can't access them sometimes.
I did find however that a 62 character WPA passphrase was available to me in clear text. If your router/Access Point, has a button in the admin page to back up settings then do that. I then searched for that file and opened it using Textwrangler. You would probably find that the file created by the settings backup routine on the AP will not have a default app assigned to it. Dont ASSIGN Textwrangler. Open that app and then select the settings config bkp as the file to be opened by it.
Textwrangler has a good search facility so look under 'passphrase' or whatever your connection device uses as a generic term for the passphrase. It will then find your long lost buddy with a neat line number reference.
Textwrangler is free from Barebones it is a lot more than a word processor so be carefull what you do with the file in it. Do not edit it. Do not save it. That way the router/AP 'restore settings' routine can continue to use it. That is also why you should not set Textwrangler as its default app.
Of course your router/AP may write it's bkp file in some strange format that only it can read. I doubt it. -
I am new to IPod Touch and enjoying but all of a sudden (after about a month of connection) I am unable to connect to either my home wirless or hotspots outside of home. It would appear that a setting has changed but have no idea how to determine. Any suggestions ?
NO I did not and thank you very much for the advice. My problem was stated incorrectly in that while I am able to connect to the wireless from that point on I am unable to connect to the internet. I will check the article referred to.

Network key for wifi, not password
I am trying to set up a new iphone on my verizon account. I backed up the old iphone on the icloud first. Now I can't activate the new one without a wifi connection, but it won't give me the option to use a network key instead of a password to connect to my home wifi. We don't have a password, we have a network key, and if I try to input the network key like with all my other devices into the password bar, it doesn't work.

7921 phone locating network services
Phone is displaying locating network services, ap's are not seeing devices using leap along with passwords and username.
If it always displays "location network services", then more than likely there is a configuration issue either on the phone or ap side. Ensure that the ssid matches (case sensitive) and the authentication type matches. Ensure there is not a space at the end of the ssid when you entered it into the 7921G. Can use LEAP or AKM security mode on the 7921G, which will sue LEAP for 802.1x.
Ensure you are using firmware version 1.2(1) on the 7921G.

I currently have my Apple TV set up using my wireless network in my home. I plan to use the Apple TV while camping and thinking I should be able to use my Hot Spot on my iPad to display on my TV while camping. What I'm not finding is how to find my network on my iPad? What do I need to do to assign my Hot Spot as a network? Can this be done or do I need a remote router?
So when I connect my ATV to my TV, I turn on my hot spot and go to Netflix. I can get Netflix on my iPad for streaming movies, but it won't share with my TV. The TV is telling me it doesn't recognize my network. When I go to settings, general and network on the TV screen, I'm asked to select a network. If I select other, I don't know what network to use? Does the iPad have a network assigned to it? If so, how do I access?
