Where to put an AGP card for my G5?

I have a Power G5 at work, and I need an AGP graphics card to use Final Cut Pro. The problem is that this G5 only has a PCI card. When I went online to look at manuals to figure out what kind of card I needed and where it should go, I became very confused because all of the info on the Apple support site says that Slot 1 for graphics card can ONLY take AGP cards and that all the other slots are PCI. My G5 has a PCI card in Slot 1.
If I do get an AGP card, where the heck am I supposed to put it?

Either the G5s have AGP cards in the bottom slot or (in the case of the last iteration of the machine, a PCI-express card in the bottom slot) and most will support FCP no problem, the AGP exception, probably, would be the GeFarce 5200, which is seriously underpowered.
Go to the Apple Menu and select "About this Mac" and then click the "More Info" button, which will give you a System Profiler window. Under the Hardware section in Contents, select Graphics-Displays and report the information here and we can help you decide whether you are OK (you probably are, absent the aforementioned "monkey with crayons" 5200 card). You should see something like this display with your specifics:
*NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL:*

Note that monkey comment is really japamac's but it is apparently so true that I had to borrow it here.

  • Where to put jar files reachable for ejb:s?

    Hello!
I have a ejb that use some jar files.
But I can not figure out where to put the jar files that I use from my ejb in Weblogic 8.1.3.
Until now I have extracted all jar files and put them inside my ejb with my own class files. But this seems odd.
So please help me out here.
    Best regrads
    Fredrik

    Dear,
You might have downloaded either tar.gz or zip file. when you extract this file you will find a jar file and also some demos nad docs(api+help). place the poifs api jar file in 'WEB-INF\lib" folder and restart the server.
In general any api jar files for web applications should be placed in WEB-INF\lib folder then only they are accesible. If you extracted the jar, then place entire package structure in WEB-INF\classes directory

  • Where may I purchase data card for my iPad

I have an IPad and I would like to purchase a data card so that I may use my IPad while traveling

A lot depends where you live and where you travel to.
For travelling overseas it is best to buy a sim card from one of he local networks to avoid roaming charges, that is assuming your iPad is unlocked.
It may help people give you more detailed help if you say where you are and also where you intend to travel.

  • Advice needed for buying an AGP card for MEGA 180

    Since 1 year I have a MEGA 180 with a SEMPRON 2500 processor, 512 MB DDR RAM, Lite-On DVD-R/W, Hauppauge PVR-150 running MediaPortal 2.0.0.0.-RC4 and it rocks!
I am not so happy though about the TV-output of the integrated GF4MX that came with the nForce2 chipset. I would like to disable this and insert a low profile, passive cooled nVidia-6200 with 128 MB-DDR. I am a bit worried about the power requirements of the card and the juice that the power supply (200W ) can deliver. Is it safe to use this card or should I adjust my demands? I am using the system for media purposes only, e.g. recording and watching recorded TV, watching movies and playing music. MediaPortal requires a DirectX-9 compliant card, DirectX-8 also works but with video artefacts. Gaming is no requirement.
Can anyone please advice what to do  ???
    Thanks in advance, Leo

I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card as although this card has never let me down its the oldest component in my box, I would like to get something in the sub £100 range, I dont do games but may wish to in future, mainly it would be for photo apps/running-backup-watching dvd's etc. any info would be greatly appreciated tia Hazzo

    Have a look around overclockers.co.uk
    For a sub £100 I noticed a good offer:
    HIS ATI Radeon 9800 Pro - £82
Also, the 6600GT here is only £103.24 (£106 inc delivery), altough only 4 left in stock so buy now if you want one

    Hi Kool,
I have to agree with the upgrade to a 9800XT. I too have a G5 dual 1.8, with the GeForce 5200FX/64 as stock. I upgraded to the 9800XT/256 last year, as I wanted to improve performance in Aperture. However, running benchmarks and the real world did not seem to compare well. For sure, running various benchmark tests showed that the 9800XT should indeed have been much faster.
However, in real use, it didn't. Certainly some things are - a few games run better - Redline is one I use a fair bit, and that can be driven harder, but not enough to make it better to play. But, almost everything else is pretty much the same, Finder feels pretty much identical either way. Perhaps one exception to this is the overall look of the display, it just feels much better with the 5200FX in, in Finder the text in the menus is much smoother, where with the 9800XT it is jagged.
One thing that did surprise me most is that Aperture performs much worse with the Radeon card. The adjuster controls are terrible to use, where with the GeForce they are almost completely smooth. Like the Finder display, photos seem to have much better colour range too.
I'm currently considering selling the Radeon on eBay, and trying to find a 5200FX with a bit more VRAM onboard. There are a lot of flashed PC cards on eBay at the moment, but I'm not sure if this would be a step backwards in losing the 'Ultra' badge.

  • Where can I purchase a new video card for my dual 2.0 G5 in Ontario

Looking to replace a video card in my machine but am having trouble finding a store that carries them, any ideas?

I don't think you're going to find a new one anywhere.
Depends which Dual G5 2.0 you have as to whether it's AGP or PCIe needed.

  • G5 Still Holding up - AGP Card NOT!

I was recently relieved after bringing my G5(June 2004?) in for repair that it's not the motherboard or the hard drive but the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB video card (using this machine primarily for video editing, motion graphics etc.) After hearing the crushing news that my Mac is "vintage" and my local store can't offer up any cards because they don't make them anymore I scoured the interwebs. I found some on eBay and a few other sites.
A few questions: I'm seeing the exact card I need on sites like eBay but most of them are NEW CONDITION bought in bulk from ATI and not in retail boxes. Has anyone purchased a card this way? It's the first time I've had to do this so I'm a little hesitant but since I have an older Mac I know my options are limited.
Also, since I have to get a new card, what are my options with regard to an upgraded card beyond the ATI card I'm currently replacing. I'm seeing ATI Radeon 9800 X8 SE cards (X8 referring to the AGP slot?) and 9800 XT cards. Since these are all outdated cards, what are my options here?
    Thanks all,
    William

  • Video card for HDMI output?

    Hey guys,
We've got an old PowerPC G5 in the office that we'd like to set up for viewing HD footage on an HDTV. I know that there are DVI to HDMI adapters out there, and that's ideally the route we'd like to go. Unfortunately, we also need dual monitor support on this machine. Are there any hardware options available on this older machine that will give us what we need? i.e., can a machine support two video cards?
    Specs
    Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5
    14GB DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX 10.5.8
    Currently installed card: GeForce 6600LE
Thanks so much for your help guys!

  • Best Graphics and Tuner Card for 865 Pro with XP MCE (Maybe Vista?)

    Hi all,
I'm looking at rebuilding my 865 Pro
I haven't upgraded the graphics so what do people recommend as the best AGP card for the 865 Pro
I have the MSI tuner but I am looking a ditching instant on for MCE would like to get a idea for digital tuning card (I'm in the UK). Would anybody recommend using a combined AGP/Tuner card like the ATI All in Wonder cards or using a USB Tuner?
I am thinking I will have to stick with XP because of driver support. I have dual boot to Vista at the moment but the wifi doesn't work.
    Idea and Suggestions welcome
    Danny

    Thanks for the reply Stu.
I tried installing the XP wi-fi driver in Vista and I couldn't get it to work. I didn't try harder as the Mega 865 Pro is not supposed to be Vista compatible.
Is there a 3rd party driver I should try?
The reason I would like to upgrade the graphics is to have the option to play some games and I am beginning to find limitation with the on board graphics. I tried to check out second life on the mega the other week and it wouldn't set up because the graphics wasn't up to it.
I have tried installing a dedicated APG card before - the Gigabyte nVidia Geforce 6600 with heatpipe passive cooling.
It is a great card but I found every now and then the PC would crash with it running. It is a very tight fit with the TV tuner card and the airflow wasn't good.
So I am looking at using a small APG card or replacing the tuner. That’s why a combined card seemed to make sense and would free up the PCI slot.
As power is a problem for some graphics cards is upgrading the PSU an option?
    Thanks
    Danny

  • Does 8x AGP card compatible with 4x mainboard?

    Hi,
I have a MSI 845PE Max 4x AGP mainboard and a Xelo G4 Ti4200 128MB DDR 8X card. Can the system run without giving problem when playing newer game. Does the mobo have enough power to handle 8X AGP card for playing game. My system hang whenever I player newer games.

It allows the Vidio card to use more of the Main (System) Memory if the Onboard Vidio Card Memory becomes loaded from storing future frame information From a game that you have in play..If you have 128 MB of Vidio Card Memory the chances of having to go to the Main memory are slim, but as the next generation Games start hitting the Stores even 128 will not be enough, thats why the top Cards have 256 MB of onboard Vidio RAM...But by upping the AGP aperture, you are not losing any of your ram (It's not being shared like with onboard Graphics Chip). ......Sean REILLY875

    Hello
What is the best (most modern and reliable) video card (AGP) which will work in a 1.6GHz PowerPC G5 (mid 2003)?
I believe I have ATY,RV350, and according to the attached article, it may be causing video start up problems.
    Thank you

Though with no power loght & such, I'm not sure that is the problem or not... does the Hard drive(s) spin up?

What model is your iPad? (iPad, iPad 2 or New iPad). Did you get the AT&T or Verizon model? If you got the Verizon model, it doesn't have a SIM slot.
