Where to put optional plug-ins of CS4 in Windows 7?

At last I succeeded to add the optional plug-ins (contactsheet, picture package) into CS-4 on my laptop
with Windows XP. On my PC with Windows 7 I've tried several maps, but could not find the right one to bring back the contactsheet and picture package to Bridge and CS4.
Could someone shed light on this?

Maps are not the same, I've also tried on a Windows Vista 64-bits system. There are 5 locations where Photoshop maps could be found in Vista:
1- C\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64bit)    (empty)
2- C\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\Automate    (contains Web Contact Sheet II, Photomerge UI, Contact Sheet II)
3-C\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-Ins\Automate   (contains Web Contact Sheet II, Photomerge UI, Contact Sheet II, WIA
     Support, HDR Merge, CropPhotosAuto)
4- C\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS4\Plug-Ins\           (contains ContactSheet II, Web Contact Sheet II, Photomerge UI)
5- C\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\32bit Photoshop dlls
From Photoshop>Automate> there is no mentioning of contactsheet
From Bridge>Tools>Photoshop>contactsheet Photoshop opens but shows: "The command "unknown" is not currently available"

When using a product like Miroslav Philharmonik, I can get the program to run, but I can not figure out how to make it work with logic. The plug-ins do not show up! Someone please help me know what folders to put what in. Thanks

No, not really... what channel(s) do you mean? I have never seen "strange" channels in Logic (or Philharmonik). A bit more detail, or even screenshots, might help.

Tried to Download additional plug-ins for CS4 but having problems.

I just found out that CS4 doesn't have the extract filter, so I went to this link to download additional plug-ins:

I downloaded it, but I'm having trouble installing it. The instructions tell me to "navigate to the application
folder, double-click Setup, and then follow the on-screen instructions" but there's not application folder or Setup. I also tried opening the download, selecting English>Googies>Optional Plug-Ins>Filters>Extractplus.plugin, but it says "cannot complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
I'm at a complete loss here. All I want is the Extract Filter. I've tried 2 different downloads, both to no avail. Please help!

The only document you need to read is the "OptionalPluginsReadMe.pdf" in the Goodies/Optional plug-ins folder on your mounted diskimage of your downloaded.
Here you'll find all the instructions on where to put the files.

How to install optional plug-ins

I just read in the March issue of Photoshop User magazine about optional plug-ins you can download from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4048. It includes the Contact Sheet II plug-in among others. The article described how to install this plug-in but there are other things included in the Goodies folder that I'd like to install but not sure how. For example, there are textures but I don't see a textures folder where PS CS4 is installed. The readme file doesn't tell you how to install the features. Any help would be appreciated.

most things like textures, actions, brushes etc. can be loaded via the flyout menu in their respective palettes. the little triangle in the upper right corner? click that, you'll see "load textures" or "load brushes" etc.

6.0.6 is CS4, not CS6 (which is version 8).
Why do you need to upgrade plugins? Are you getting an error message trying to pen a file? That meas the file was saved from a newer version of ID, and you'll need either the newer version, or an IDML file exported from the original. You can't upgrade plugins to make this work.

To add to Mylenium's reply, here's how to do it on Windows and this is what microsoft website says:
Why do I have to be an administrator to install a program?
Only administrators can make changes that will affect everyone who uses the computer, such as installing software and hardware and changing security settings.
If the program you are trying to install or run says you must have administrator rights, but you are already an administrator on the computer, right-click the installation icon for the program, and then click Run as administrator. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
If the program installs but does not run, right-click the program icon, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, select the Run this program as an administrator check box, and then try to run the program.

Photoshop CS5 Extended -- Optional Plug-ins, Extensions and Presets

I am using Photoshop CS5 Extended.
I downloaded the Optional Plug-ins, Extensions and Presets file, unpacked it the desktop. All I wanted was the SGI file format, which works very well and the legacy textures.
As per the PDF file I copied the "Textures directory" to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Presets
The instructions stated just restart Photoshop and the deal was done.
Only it didn't work. The legacy textures are not available in the texturizer

Have you tried changin the texture selector using the sidearrows?

Installing Optional Plug-ins for Photoshop CS5

I have downloaded the Optional Plug-ins for Photoshop CS5 but when I double click on the zxp file I get a message:
"There is no application set to open the document “CS5 Optional Automate Plug-ins.zxp”.
I have tried selecting "choose application" in the same message window and navigating to Applications>Utilities>Adobe Installers but the only option there is greyed out.
I am using Mac OS 10.6.8.
Any suggestions appreciated!

Optional plug-ins for CS5

I downloaded the optional plug-ins to get the old-style Web Photo Gallery. I then copied this folder into (Windows XP) Program Files/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Plug-ins as well as /Plug-ins/Automate and also /Presets, and when I open CS5 it is not under File, Automate. Any ideas welcome, please.

Only Adobe can answer that for sure, but we users can guess that it's because they've judged that installing the software on every system would increase support cost, and/or perhaps they're trying to phase out support for those plugins, in which case they probably won't even be available for CS6 or some future release.

Where are all the plug-ins?

There seem to be quite a few very experienced InDesign SDK programmers that hang around the forum. Which leads me to my question, where are all the plug-ins you guys have been creating. Looking around, there only seems to be about 50 commercially available plug-ins, so where are the rest of them. Do companies hire programmers for in-house plug-ins is that not overkill.
Besides all this, I understand that nobody (including myself) would want to give away secrets about what type of project they are involved in currently, but maybe some of the guys here could tell us who they worked for in the past, how long involved with InDesign SDK, and what type of plug-in they've created.
I realize in this forum, its basically professionals and not just hobbyists, making it harder sometimes to get replies, but maybe some of you will share a little something in this faceless screen-named avatar world.

Many plug-ins are distributed as a part of bigger systems, i.e. CMS. Maybe thats why you've heard only about 50 commercial plugins.

Upgraded to iLife '08. Where do I put the plug-ins to iMovie?

I invested in several plug-ins to previous iMovie (Slick Volume 1-8, eZedia, etc) They're residing in user/Library/iMovie/.
Now I upgraded to '08 but can't find a way to import the plug-ins which makes all projects (8 right now) and about 3 months night work go out the drain.
Or are they not even compatible???????

Tack för hjälpen. I still have iMovie 6.0.4 (thank God, the installation of iLife'08 backed it up for me) so I'm really not in the predicament I hinted about in my quesion above.
I know I should have checked this up earlier. But it's still extremely annoying when a software manufacturer doesn't bother to highlight an issue like this during installation of updates and upgrades since the user rarely think about it (too excited about new software) and since plug-ins more often than not actually work even after installation of the new software...
Ah well.... I suppose this is stuff one has to live with. Thanks for info anyway.

Ok i have used plug-ins etc so i know how they work but here is my question. On my mac there are 2 different plug-ins folders for FCP and both work. So why are there 2 and which one should i use??? Below is the way to get to both folders

Items installed in a relevant folder within the Library folder in your User's home directory (the one with the picture of the little house) are available only to that user.
Items installed in the relevant folder within the Library at the root directory are available only to all user's.
... so if you want an FCP plugin to be available to all users of your computer then install it in the /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins, otherwise if you want it only available to your user then install it in ~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Plugins (that "~" sign signifies your users home folder ... the one with the house icon)

Where do OnOne Software Plug-ins go

Im on Snow Leopard running Photoshop CS4, when I go to install OnOne Software's Mask Pro 4, it cant find Photoshop it says, even though Photoshop is installed in the Apps folder, can someone tell me the location and path to put this plug-in at.

It's possible that you have plug-ins written for a Mac PPC rather than Universal plug-ins. If you're running Photoshop on a MacIntel, Photoshopwould not see the older plug-ins.
If your system allows you to read Rosetta, you could set Photoshop to launch and run in Rosetta (with a corresponding and brutal performance hit) so that it can see the older plug-ins. Your system may or may not allow that.
Contact the developer and ask them for Universal versions of the plug-ins.

Build Plug-Ins with CS4 SDK under OS X 10.5 SDK with Xcode 3.1.2?

I have existing Photoshop Universal Binary Plug-ins built under OS X 10.4 and the OS X 10.4 SDK, with Xcode 2.1.x & Photoshop CS3 SDK. They are mature and stable.
I am attempting to build these Plug-Ins with the new CS4 SDK under OS X 10.5.6 & 10.5 SDK with Xcode 3.1.2.
They do not build as there is a conflict in PITypes.h with the attempted redefinition of uint32, already defined in the Apple header cssmconfig.h, amongst other problems.
Has anyone built with a similar configuration?

I've had good luck with Snow Leopard 10.6.1, XCode 3.2 and the Photoshop CS4 SDK by changing the build settings like this:
1. Open the Target Info window: Project->Edit Active Target
2. Change Architectures from native to 32-bit Universal (because my native is 64 bit)
3. Make sure Base SDK is 10.4 (you must have that installed of course). If you select 10.5 for some of the Photoshop examples, you get complaints of depreciated APIs.
4. Change C/C++ compiler version to GCC 4.0
In the case of using these steps, there is no need to edit any headers, comment anything out, etc.
