Where to start updating?

I can not sync my iphone 4 or iphone 5s with my itunes. It says I need to update to the latest itunes but I can not download the updated itunes because I need to update my os x. I tried downloading os x 10.6.8 but it says I first need 10.6 and it wont let me download anything. I just dont know where to start. I just want to be able to access my phone through itunes again.

You can't download Snow Leopard 10.6.
You must purchase the Snow Leopard install DVD from Apple.
Once you install that then 10.6.8 will update for you.

  • RAM and Activity Monitor questions M.B.P. Is sOoOoo slow and I just don't know where to start..RAM and Activity Monitor

So I am really unsure where to start but I def need a little help getting to where I want to be or feel I should be.  I understand that I am pretty much filled when it comes to the RAM on this machine but I need to figure out how to lower it.  I back up my machine about once a week which is longer than I would prefer but due to the way Mavericks has been acting I cant deal with the long backup process.... WHY?!?? may be your response to that and I will fill you in.  My external Hard Drive is a 1tb Lacie and its about 2 years old.  In that time I have dropped, lost, threw and slept ontop of it.  Causeing minor damage (each time) to the casing.  So now becomes rather hot and I kinda dont want it to burn out.  When I first updated to Mavericks the backups were fast and went along mb by mb...now though, the updates drag out for 3-5 hours and update kb by kb.  Tried some of the "solutions" posted on here but none seem to work any more than me consistantly purging my system while the backup happens...kinda why I dont have time to do it everyday like I'd like.
ANYWAY can someone please fill me in on a way, program, application, anything that will help me lower my RAM?  Because in the spirit of honesty I just dont have the extra funds to snag some new RAM or another HD.  I am almost at the point of saying "F**K IT" and wiping everything off the computer so its as close to empty as can be and manually, one by one redownloading what I want/need.  But I dont have the time to accomplish that either.  PLEASE lend me your ear and help a brudda out with some information from that exceptional brain of yours.
Below is a copy of my machines "report" from EtreCHECK and I am including screen shots of what the (Mavericks) Activity Monitor currently looks like in ALL PROCESSES.  PLUS it kinda seems that I have WAY TOOO MANY processes going on in the ACTIVITY MONITOR and have NO clue how to lower the amount.    Will truly appreciate any help anyone can toss my way.
        THANK YOU

Mavericks is designed to use as much RAM as possible. Free RAM is wasted RAM... it's RAM that's not working for you, not doing anything helpful. Seeing your RAM full is not an indication that there is a problem. Seeing your memory pressure graph spike would be.

  • Multiple problems with 80GB classic, don't know where to start.

    Hey guys,
I got an Apple classic 80GB for my bday early August and lately i've been having so many problems i dont know where to start, i'll try to explain them as best as i can.
*problem 1:* Whenever i plug my iPod into my PC, it locks up the system for about 5 minutes, then comes up with an error box saying that 'There is a problem with your iPod yadda yadda restore etc'.
I proceed to restore the iPod, then once its restored and reconnects itself, it repeats the cycle by freezing then telling me to restore. The only way i can do a restore and have it not give me an error is if i reboot when it is disconnected.
*Problem 2:* When i finally get it up and ready to sync, i go to sync all my files (About 2000 songs). It gets to around the 1500 song mark then says there is an error and the iPod disconnects itself.
It then instantaneously reconnects itself and starts syncing from where it left off.
Once it has then sync'd all of the music ad tells me its ready to be ejected. I eject the iPod and disconnected it.
I then go into the iPod and it has no songs/videos/photos, yet it has still used up about 15gb. If i reconnect it, it will just sit there for 5 minutes not syncing, it will then randomly say the sync is done and it will eject itself.
FINALLY after all that i have my music on there
*Problem 3* Once the songs are on the iPod, it becomes insanely laggy. If i navigate to a song and press play, it will take about 10 seconds for the actual song to play. The delay is just as bad for next song, pause etc. Even using it in my cars head unit causes it to lag.
*Problem 4* If i do get a song playing after all that, about 1/5 songs will just randomly skip to the next song without letting it play through.
I have all the latest iTunes/Firmware/Drivers for everything on my PC and iPod.
I have sent it back to Apple for repair yet they could not find anything wrong (Yeah right :|)
If anyone out there could help me please, im at my wits end with this infernal machine.
    Thankyou

*Outdated operating system:* Cant be, im running XP SP3 with the latest updates
*Computer needs updates:* I've got the latest drivers for all of my hardware, including BIOS
*Software interference:* THe only other program i have running in the background is Kaspersky Antivirus, but that is disabled when i try to sync
*Damaged Files* Possibly, i played through the album where it froze at and even reo-imported it, it seemed to play and import fine
*Unregistered .dll files (Windows):* Tried this fix, but it did the same problems as the original post. Such as freezing on a certain song, then reconnecting itself only to put the music on there, yet it is really laggy
*Damaged disk structure:* Tried this fix, didn't help
*Corrupt iPod photo Cache* I have never tried to put photos on it, so i dont see how this could be it.
*Lost connection:* Checked it, it's very firm and unlikely to come loose.
*Conflict with third-party hardware:* I dont have any connected, nor have i ever
*Bad hardware:* I tried it on all of my 8 USB drives. I dont use any hubs or firewire cards so this couldn't be it.
Also i forgot to add that 1/5 times i go to restore, it locks the computer up and windows gives me a 'delayed write failed' bubble

  • How difficult to create a user login area, and where to start?

I have a website which I created in Microsoft Expression Web 4. I would like to add a user login area and tie it to an existing SQL database which is updated frequently. I am not sure where to start or how likely I am to succeed. It is for a client's
website, so I am willing (and hopefully able) to learn, but do not want it to turn into a long drawn out project.
I can code in html and css and use java scripts. I don't know visual basic or how to work within the database (it will be provided by the client). I'm open to any advice on how easy or difficult this will be without other forms of coding knowledge, and would
love any advice on the best place to start.  I have found some tutorials and downloaded MS Visual Studio Express 2013, since it was coming up as the best program for this.
    Thank you for any advice!

You want to create a login in SQL? any way you need one to access the database. You may need to contact your DBA to do it as you maynot be authorized to do it. Use below link to know creating SQL logins/Users.

  • Connecting iPod won't start updating from iTunes?

When I have connected my iPod to my PC recently, the "Do Not Disconnect" message comes up okay on my iPod, the PC can see it but iTunes ignores it entirely. In other words, iTunes just sits there and refuses to start updating.
I have rebooted, restarted, reset, etc, all to no avail. iTunes simply can't see my iPod. Any thoughts as to how to update my iPod?
    Thanks, Brian

What did you use to covert them? The iPod has rather specific conversion requirements where as iTunes is a bit more relaxed. So it is perfectly reasonable to have video files that will play in iTunes but are not right for the iPod (bit rate too high, etc.)

  • What to check or can say from where to start?

    Hi Gurus,
I've a situation, have been given a Dev db, a copy of their current Prod db, kind of a warehouse, not core and now my task is to check this db from all perspective and tell the application what is right or even wrong too.
Can any one please assist, advice/guide here, how to move about it, kind of struggling.
From where to start and what to look for, would like to start with parameters and the most important have to implement my suggested solution too on this Dev db and try to convince and coordinate with the Prod dba too, in order to implement there.
Looking forward for a favorable response, thanks in advance.

I came across information that Firefox has turned off the development for Windows 64-bit.
That is incorrect. There is a plan to stop producing 64-bit nightly builds, which are tests versions of Firefox.
You are using the release version of Firefox, which is 32-bit, and will continue working unaffected by the aforementioned change. 32-bit programs work without a hitch under 64-bit Windows. The default Start Menu shortcut for Internet Explorer points to the 32-bit version, and Firefox's main competitor Chrome is also available only in a 32-bit variety.
Even if you were using the 64-bit test version — and you aren't — the plan is to silently move testers to the 32-bit version, so as long as you have automatic updates enabled, you wouldn't have to do anything.
Technical details about 64-bit builds can be found below.

I have Mellanox Technologies MT25418 [ConnectX VPI PCIe 2.0 2.5GT/s - IB DDR / 10GigE] cards in my new Solaris 5.10 cluster (9 nodes).
I need to be able to ssh between the nodes via IB (I think using IPoIB). I really don't know where to start in getting things up and running. So far I have installed:
    Sun Studio 12.1
    Sun ClusterTools 8.2.1
IB Updates 3.1 (so that I could update the firmware on the ConnectX cards)

  • Where to start? CF version? Book etc..

    Hey guys,
I have done some work with Coldfusion, Oracle and IIS in past. At the time it was version 4.5 and now it's all changed. I got a large e-commerce project to work on. I want to use coldfusion for this and wanted to ask few questions.
    1. Which version of coldfusion, Oracle and web server to start with?
    2. Which book is the best at the moment? (I got coldfusion complete reference but it's 4.5!!)
I will be good with installation and setting up database just need to know where to start.
    Thanks guys,
    Amit.

The project I am been asked to start is a e-commerce website where they want to sell Invitation cards. So a different level of login, manual discount codes, reference discount and the whole payment system are the main contact of the site. When we were using 4.5 version this was dead easy and I am sure it is still the case (one of the reason I am choosing CF is because how easy it is to use).
Now when I want to buy CF I am confused, because there are developer, enterprise etc different versions. How are they different and which one is best for the above project? I think my boss have "Adobe ColdFusion Enterprise Edition 9" and he can give me that for free so will that do the job?
Sorry If I sound right idiot but for past 7-8 years I have stopped programming and doing just designing so I have lost touch with this field. I really appreciate your help.
    My suggestions:
Technology choice: ColdFusion is especially suitable for small to medium-sized e-commerce web sites.
CF Server choice: ColdFusion 9 (any edition) + updates and hot fixes. CF 9 will be just as easy for you to use as when you last used CF 4.5!
Book/Study material: Ideally, Adobe's ColdFusion documentation on the web. It's the source, it's got everything and it's free.

  • Creating custom UI panels : where to start ?

    Hi,
i've had a  hard time searching for clear information on how to create custom panels in InDesign.
Maybe the wrong keywords, i dont know, but here i am
I would like to create a panel displaying all the "text variables" and their actual values and be able to edit them right there.
I have no idea where to start, any primers ? Cues ? Ressources ?
Many thanks for the help !
    Ugo

Well i was actually asking myself the very question : do i really need a panel ?
So far i found a script thhat pretty much does what i need :
run the script opens a window
When all the fields are populated, hit continue and the custom text variables are updated with the freshly entered information
Now i need to tweak this code to suit my variables and find a way to "get" the current values instead of the defaults ones populating the form.
So i guess i can always execute the script to update, correct and update the variable and anytime, saving me the trouble of going about creating a plugin (this scared me more that anything )
I'll make sure it runs and see whats up. Any chance i can ask you later for support if i hit a rock?
Again thanks for the kind help, i now have ressources and some vocabulary to find stuff!

I recently purchased an old iMac G3 Macintosh. I was wondering, is there a way where I can update it without using an external disc? I've seen the newer Apple products with the dock, if I update my iMac G3, will it have that, and if so, how can I do that?

I was wondering, is there a way where I can update it without using an external disc?
If you mean the iMac does not have an internal optical drive capable of reading DVDs, the only option requires another Mac with a DVD-capable drive and FireWire ports. Your iMac G3 will also require FireWire ports. Not all G3 iMacs have Firewire. FW started with the Summer 2000 models with 400mHz and faster processors.
With FireWire, you can use FireWire Target Disk mode to install from a retail OS install DVD in another Mac. If you supplemental info info tells us if you have another Mac with a DVD reader and the FW ports, we can walk you through the process.
If the iMac has a tray-loading drive, I'd forget it. They are very limited not only in the OS max (10.3.9) but also in RAM capability. Starting with the slot-loading iMac G3s, the max RAM increased to 1 GB (2 X 512MB modlules). Tiger likes 1GB RAM.
Understand that pre-Intel Macs are getting harder to use. Even with 10.4.11, your choice of browsers is limited (TenFourFox is the most viable option) and the G3s  rudimentary video hardware means web browsing will be choppy at best.
If you are in the USA, you can try calling the Apple Store (1-800-MY-APPLE) for an OS disk. As recently as Jan 20, someone posted here that they were able to buy Tiger by calling. It was not clear whether the disks were replacement system install/restore disks or full retail install, but it's a free call.
When you do "About this Mac" to check teh OS verion, also look at the processor speed and tell us what that says. That can help with recommendations for an upgrade path.

  • New Open Source Broadcom WIFI driver, where to start?

Hello I want to install new Broadcom Open Source driver brcm80211 for my Broadcom BCM43225 WIFI card but I'm kinda confused where to start. First of all this driver is not available in Arch repositories nor AUR, so I guess there's only GIT way in which I'm not too much familiar. At the moment only Debian has this driver available in it's backports kernel but that is useless for Arch Linux user, except for the firmware loading instructions. So please help me, I have exported the whole 500MB+ git "next staging" tree, and now I would like to figure it out how to compile brcm80211 module and eventually use it with Arch kernel. Thanks in advance.
    Last edited by Riot777 (2010-09-28 23:00:45)

I spent close to an hour shortly after it was added to the staging-next branch and managed to compile it against 2.6.35.4 (not sure about the .4 part however). Unfortunately, it wasn't especially stable and got some kernel oops on suspend. After that, I went back to using the wl module.
Recent changes don't look like they could have improved the stability of the driver by much, so I'd advise against using it for now.
With the above said, if you're feeling adventurous you can build the driver as follows:
    0. Make sure you have the `base-devel' group installed, along with `kernel26-headers' (preferably version 2.6.35.6-2 as 2.6.35.6-1 had some issues) and `linux-firmware' 20100911-1 (the one in [core] doesn't contain the firmware files for brcm80211 AFAIK).
    1. Grab just the brcm80211 directory from the staging-next branch by clicking the `snapshot' link on this page.
    2. Extract the compressed tarball and then open a terminal inside the staging-next-2.6-x directory that gets created.
    3. Change the Makefile a little by running `curl -s http://ompldr.org/vNW82NA/Makefile.patch | patch -Np0'. After that, run `make'.
    4. Now, you should have the compiled module `brcm80211.ko' in the current directory, which you can copy into `/lib/modules/2.6.35-ARCH/updates/'. (Create the updates directory if it doesn't exist.)
I didn't test the above steps thoroughly and I'm not certain this is the correct way to build the driver. However, I believe it'll get you a working kernel module.

  • Unsure of where to start

First off friends, I am starting from ground zero here, so bear with me!
I am soon transitioning to a position in which I would be managing multiple iPads in multiple locations for our medical offices, and the management staff have a small number of requests that I'm unsure of how exactly to accomplish them.
    - The management staff would like our new IT dept. to be able to make all app updates/ios updates/any other updates when the office staff aren't using the iPads (preferably after hours) so they aren't interrupted during the day with restarts, installs, etc.
    - This needs to be done via remote as some of our locations are out of state and the iPads aren't accessible.
I've only worked in a windows environment, so I really don't know where to start and I don't know what I need (software, hardware, etc.) to be able to accomplish this. Heck, I've never used an iPad (poor college student using android/windows). I've read some of the help sections on the business pages, but I feel like I'm drowning in information.
    Any help/direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

There is a lot of information to get a handle on.
You should take some industrial training course.  You will find them very different from a college course -- just what dials to watch and what toggles to press.
