I work at the Apple Store in Leawood and I am the resident windows guy. But i noitced thereis no area where i can talk about vmware here?

are familiar with the WINE project? While still developmental, this offers the option to run some .exe applications on the Intel Macs without an installation (or license) of the Windows OS.

Well, these are user-to-user forums. I'm not sure that posting complaints about Apple customer support here would be a) productive (what can we really do?) and b) acceptable under the terms of use, though I'm not sure. My inclination would be to write a letter directly to Apple. Even in this email age, "real" letters seem to command more attention.

The only way to use Forms Central would be to export it the method that gives you the embed code (can't remember what the actual term is off hand) and then use Object--->Insert HTML and past your code in.

It should not need additional cooling. Is the internal fan running? You should feel airflow from the vents.

i would like to learn about boot camp and the risks of puttiong windows on my mac. some things i just need on windows.
where can i read about it before i start to post dumb questions about virus software and the risk of virus, as i'm sure its been addressed somewhere..

currently trying to build a server at home with little experience
teaching myself HTML and Javascript and writing 5 websites on the fly
among many other things.. i just need to find out more about what i am doing before i do it so i understand what i am doing, and whether its the best use of my time.
my laptop most certainly doesn't sit on a shelf. its been around the world, to far flung corners of jungles, remote islands in Thailand and never leaves my side. Its on al day working and on all night processing. infact it almost drowned with me when i was caught in a violent storm going between islands in Thailand. Naturally i put the laptop somewhere safe before saving myself from going overboard.

Is it still impossible to do bootcamp and VMWare or Parallels?

I use bootcamp extensively to run several windows programs, mostly MS Office 2010. I also need to use Office 2011 so being able to switch back and forth between OS X and Win 7 is essential (I do this because I'm a consultant and curriculum developer--not because I'm a masochist). I've used bootcamp for years and it does a pretty good job once you get all the drivers issues sorted out.
I've also used VM ware, but had a couple of bad experiences where I lost my virtual machine and all the data on it. I do backups of course, but it was still really inconvient. Plus the driver situation when doing the virtual thing rather than bootcamp just wasn't quite there yet--another reason to use bootcamp. So for the past 2 - 3 years I've just been resigned to using bootcamp.
But occassionally it's just not convenient to reboot my system to switch from OS X to Windows, especially when all I want to do is check out some quick thing under windows but then quickly get back to Mac--two reboots! On the other hand, when I'm doing a windows client demo or such where failure's not an option, I'd want to be in bootcamp because it feels so much more solid.
I'm wondering if Apple or the virtual OS companies have made any changes that would allow me to have both bootcamp, which I'd use for windows in most situations, AND a virtual machine in OS X that I could use for quick trips to Windows but keep working in OS X without having to reboot. Most of my data files are on dropbox, so even if the bootcamp partition and the virutal machine disk were inaccessible to each other I'd be able to access the files I need.
If the answer is simply NO, you can have bootcamp or virtural machines but not both, then my next question is this: Is either VMware or parallels getting close to being as robust as bootcamp for running windows, or should I just plan to keep on bootin' for another few years?

Thanks for the information. My last experience was with VMWare 1 and I don't think this functionality was available then. I downloaded today version 4 and at this point I am running Win 7 within MacOS. Haven't tried rebooting to my bootcamp partition yet or printing or sharing, etc. If it works as advertised though I should be a happy camper.
The import option doesn't strike me as a good one for my situation. I have 500GB on my MBP and 120 GB allocated to my windows bootcamp partition. If I do the import option with VMWare I'd basically need another 120 GB of the total space and then I'd have two unsynchronized windows disks, one under bootcamp and the other under VMWare.
Running VMWare as a Mac application I can see it's a bit slower than running in bootcamp, but I expected that.
This is exciting stuff and I appreciate you taking the time to enlighten me.

Where would I get last version of itunes?

Since itunes 7 is doing nothing for my nano i think deleting it would be the better option. Where can I find the older version to download? I got my nano about five months ago and i had no problems with the library until this one.

It's always a good idea to have you music backed up before starting something like this.
You will be using a backup of your V 6.0.5 library made when you upgraded to 7, so you will not have any changes after that so you may need to add stuff manually as well.

Where would you check performance of webi? query is taking long time to run

In the bex query world running on portal you were able to go to sm50 and check what the query is doing and where it is taking a long time or atleast you were able to see the processes runing.
Where would you check the running processes when you are running a webi query, we are trying to write a webi report which is on universe which is created on bex query. The report is very simple just two fields and an mandatory variable which is coming from bex query (have defined the variable in bex query). When we exeute the query it is taking a long time just spinning and I am not getting any data back, on the same query before even hitting the run query button, I am trying to put a object in query filters and set the filter as In list from Value(s) from list and it is taking forever to set that filter.
Can we go to CMC or BW backend and check anywhere we are using sap authentication, I see the number of sessions in CMC but that is it.

All our universes are on BEx queries designed in SAP BW in that case does the array fetch size matter and array bind size matter? I had read this in oneof the universe designer manuals for OLAP universes The Array fetch size, Array bind size, and Login timeout parameters are not used for OLAP connections

A few questions about MacBooks and Parallels Desktop.

I have a few questions about MacBooks and Parallels Desktop.
1) I understand I need at least 1GB of RAM to run Parallels Desktop but what about the hard drive, is the stock 60GB drive big enough?
2) Related to question 1, even if it was big enough to allow me to install and run Windows would the 60GB drive be enough if I wanted to install a Linux distribution as well?
3) This has nothing to do with Parallels Desktop but thought I'd ask it here anyway, do Apple Stores carry just the stock MacBooks, or do they carry other configurations?

1. Depend on how intensive you use that HD for saving data on both Mac OS and XP. For standard installation on both OS X and XP, the space of 60 Gb is enough.
2. Same answer as no 1. You can install all three on that HD space, but the extra spacce available will be less and less for your data. You can save your data on external or back up on cd/dvd and erase it from the HD to keep the free space.
Remember to leave at least 2 or 3 Gb for virtual memory usage.
3. Just call them, maybe they don't have it in store stock, but by appointment they might configure one for you before your pick-up date.

How would you go about limiting file upload

I don't need source code, just want to know if it's possible or how to go about limiting how many files a user can upload.

I can limit what types of files get uploaded.
I can limit how big those files can be.
Is it possible, or how would you go about limiting how many files get sent?
- When the user does a browse they can select multiple files.
