Where would someone turn if they think they may be interested in apple/mac software development for systems and applications? I do have some experience with industrial machine control programming. Not that it directly applies, however I have been involved in some types of programming.

I would check out the refurbished section of the online Apple Store before buying a used one from Craislist. They go quickly so you have to check often. It will be more than sufficent for you to work with.
There are more than a few such books, go to a book store near you and browse them yourself to see which one works for you.
For items 3 and 4 wait until you are ready for a commercial app and then seek help from a lawyer and an accountant.

    Yes.

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Safebooting disables Launch Agents/Daemon and Third Party Kernal extensions. Here's the article to Safeboot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

How do I find out this info so I can get iPhoto? To be honest I'm not even sure what type of Mac I have and don't know how to find out what kind it is
I'd also like to make address labels and don't know where to find that either

You would make address lables with the Contacts app.
If you don't have the user name and password used to set up the machine then you need to purchase the apps for yourself.

  • Apple has a problem and the cant solve it. I had some very important call but this new iphone just shut down on me and wont turn on i tried everything u can find in apple support nothing works for me. Anyone know what i can do?

I would instead say you have a problem since nearly all IPs work as advertised.  IF you do have a bad phone, take it into an Apple store and get a replacement.  Hope you didn't jailbreak your phone though as Apple probably will tell you, you broke it, you fix it.

  • What goes where when using separate drives for data and applications?

    Hello people!
In Mac Guru's "Guide to Macintosh Performance Acceleration" it states " Separating your "User" data from the Operating System and Applications is the simplest and most cost effective way to enjoy a significant performance boost at
    minimal cost"...
Now how exactly do I do that?
I have a 40 GB HD with Panther on it and a 55 GB drive I want to use for the "data" drive. What goes where?
    Thanks for reading!

    Hello Danny:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I disagree with the premise in that article - "significant" is relative and depends on where you are. The only method I am aware of to "separate" would be to create partitions. OS X uses sophisticated algorithms to manage memory - both real and virtual. There are very few good reasons to partition an internal HD - and several that suggest you should not do that - absent a "good" reason.

  • Bad Hard Drive? Would someone please check my thinking?

If the hard drive is bad in my iBook G4 (14" 1.42mhz), shouldn't you be able to at least start up from the optical drive with your install DVD?
I just upgraded to a new 120GB hard drive, installed Leopard 10.5, then the combined update to 10.5.8, repaired permissions and was installing iLife when I got the Kernel Panic screen. *The computer was working fine before the hard drive upgrade*. I went through the Kernel Panic troubleshooting procedures on Apple Support and from Dr.Smoke to no avail. I upgraded the memory to 1.5GB and still am not able to get past the gray Apple screen before a Kernel Panic.
When I connect through Target Disc Mode to my iMac G5 and run Disc Utility on the G4 drive, it says "Repair Failed, unable to repair disc". I then erased the disc through DU, started the G4 normally to do a fresh install, but it was immediately back to the Kernel Panic when I inserted the install disc.
When I try to run Apple Hardware Test, I get a gray open firmware screen that says 'error' and a line about problem with memory access. It's an old version of AHT, so I'm not sure I can rely on it. Is my built in memory bad? An why now just after a hard drive change?
I'm thinking about going to the Apple Genius Bar in Seattle, 100 miles away but first wanted to ask if there is any possible step I've overlooked.
    Thanks for you time,
    Randy

The wear sustained in a hard disk drive, in a portable computer, can be
a bit more brutal in a shorter period of time. So the sounds that old drive
you took out were indications it was likely well used and on its way out.
Thanks, again, for the courtesy of a reply; and yet I should be asleep.
However, speaking of OWC, their boot capable external hard drive cases,
enclosures made of aluminum with several kinds of ports, are almost an
ideal product. If I could afford to get new good stuff, I'd consider some of
their stuff along with a new kit of Apple gear; perhaps an iMac 21.5, etc.
And something portable; maybe smaller than an iPad & weather protected.
A good time to get a clone of a portable computer's drive, is when it is
somewhat active (not fried, of course) and in the computer; then there
is less trouble, since not all external enclosures can use the small size
ATA/IDE or PATA; so special consideration or additional costs are likely.
But with a clone of the worn drive in a healthy (partitioned) external HDD
with boot capabilities, you could test the rest of the computer now.
I've been told hindsight is such a wonderful thing; usually I have the
foresight and no budget for the tools needed to accomplish the task!
If you haven't noticed this line of (dream on?) aluminum drive units @ OWC
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATAFW800_FW400USB
they are worth a look. That's about all I can do. I have two older LaCie drives
one is a D2? or something, and it literally screams. I have nothing into it and
it will need at least a new HDD inside before I can use it. But can't afford that.
    And the other is a LaCie Porsche-design FW400 with 250GB 7200RPM HDD,
external power supply, and four partitions; one-each of my Macs plus a spare.
Plus a USB-port powered external drive by iomega, a 120 GB HDD inside of
unknown brand/quality; it could be good enough to install in my iBook G4, yet
my iBook has few hours runtime and no sign of needing a new one. This odd
iomega has FireWire400 ports, no power supply, and an odd dual-USB cable
where a second USB port is used for powering it, when used with USB!
So, I have not used it with USB at all, and did briefly test it for recognition by
my computers via the FireWire400 cable. It may work as storage; but with a
portable computer, that only robs the battery to run those kind.
While some users of last model iBook G4s with USB 2.0 ports (few) did note
in an unofficial and I'd say unsupported/unverified capacity, they were able
    to boot the final iBooks from a USB flash or thumbdrive, I have not tried that;
I do use the small USB memory devices to move data & images, though.
They do not appear to consume much battery power when away from AC
power supplies, when using the portable. I have two Apple batteries for my
iBook G4 and while that can be nice, it also means I have more maintenance
in regards to keeping on top of their use and charge/calibration cycles, too.
Well, I am rambling here; maybe because I should have been sleeping
instead of reading several topics and then mistakenly stayed awake. It's
only 4:48 AM now, so there's plenty of time between now and, say 7:30
for me to get some sleep, you think?
If you were further north, I'd let you use or have the drive out of the iomega
120, it is new; but of unknown quality. It is still inside the boxed iomega.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • TS1702 ITech Developer is ripping off App Store customers and there is NO contact information for this Vendor.  Doesn't the Apple/Mac reputation stand for good anymore?  Why would they allow such a ripoff developer remain in the App Store!  I am outraged!

You cannot contact the iTech Developer.  This ripoff vendor has no contact info and I expected more protection from Apple then to allow such a shady vendor to sell to their customers.  Their collage app is a complete ripoff.  It does nothing!  It's partly my fault for not reading reviews first!  I know better now.  Thought Apple would safeguard their customers as they have always done in the past!  I am very upset right now!

While i understand you're upset, you're yelling at a bunch of volunteer users. We can't do anything about your situation. We're not Apple

  • Iphone wont turn on, i think it may be water damage

Hi everyone i recently just washed my iphone because there was some chocolate on it (dont ask) i washed it under the tap thinking it would be fine because with my recent experiences it was fine when i did it. I shut my phone halfway through and everything was going well. after i dried it off with a towel and then turned it on. My phone turned on perfectly fine. After that i assumed it was fine so i put it back in my pocket and continued on with my day. Thats until i got home and all of a sudden it didnt turn on. I tried various things such as holding the power button and the back to the homescreen button. I also found out that the headphone jack and the charger holes would be pink or red. I looked with a lamp and they are not red or pink at all. I also tried charging it to see if it would turn on. I found out later that was not a good idea and can ruin it. then i come to my question, many people think i should palce my iphone in rice for 3 days the remove any excess water. Should i do this? Is it Worth it? any help is appreciated. Thanks everyone
    -Tyler

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • TRYING TO SET UP I PAD TO HP AIR PRINTER HAD PROBLEMS WITH ,TALKTALK ROUTER, ASKED AT PC WORLD ADVISED TO BY AIRPORT EXPRESS BUT STILL NO LUCK WILL NOT COMPLETE SET UP. THOUGHT THIS WOULD REPLACE THE ROUTER, I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN WRONGLY ADVISED

Having problems with air printer to i pad, problem seems to lie with talktalk router, hp solutions managed to get i mac to air printer working but not i pad, adivsed to buy another router as talktalk is not compatiable with bonjour. Went to PC world apple department advised to by airport express. tried setting it up using but will not finalise. i was led to believe this would replace the talktalk router? i feel i have been sold the wrong thing. Any suggestions

This happened to me when I was setting up the wireless router for a friend.  The issue is with the Westall modem.  You need to go in and setup the "bridge" option on the westell modem.  The link below gives directions or you can call bellsouth dsl support (this is how I learned about it).
    http://help.bellsouth.net/bellsouth/asp/contentview.asp?isbrowse=true&sprt_cid=3f993409%2Ddff7%2D422...
    Good luck
    Solution:
    Method 1 - Hard Reset
Restore the modem to default settings by pressing the Reset button on the back of the modem and holding it for 3 seconds. (Bridged mode is the default setting for the Westell).
After the modem regains sync, it is in Bridged mode. Do not attempt to surf into the modem as surfing into the modem will enable the Easy Login page and convert the modem from bridged mode to a PPP mode.
    Method 2 – Bridged Mode
Access the Westell interface using http://192.168.1.254 or http://launchmodem.
Click on the Broadband DSL Line button.
    Click on the Protocols button
Select the radio button to the left of Option 2 (Bridge)
Click the save button. Once the modem has restarted it is in bridge mode.
    ALL STEPS COMPLETE

  • I download latest software update for itunes and iphone. they successfully download, but then a message comes up saying unable to install as file has been corrupted. what is the cause?

I download latest updates for itunes and my iphone, when it comes to installing, it successfully downloads, but then i get a message for iphone software error=1403 file corrupted, and for itunes it downloads, then when i try to install it a message says unable to install software, file maybe corrupted!!

The iTunes update must be downloaded and installed before you try and use it to update the iPhone OS
Download iTunes 10.2.2 from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1103
When it completes it will auto mount the disc image and show you the package installer, don't try and do anything with the file until it gets to this stage.
Once that's installed reboot the Mac, run iTunes, connect your iPhone and let it sync, then hit the update button and let it complete that step by itself (which will require a restart of the iPhone)

how much would be the % fee that a seller in india will have to pay if i send money through goods and services they want me to add it on is it about 6%

Hello Sister! How are you? I found this link on how to install it, but i have not tried it. here it is: http://www.makaboy.net/procedures/installing-the-watchtower-library-onto-your-ap ple-ipod-iphone-ipad-and-other-platforms-using-isilo-and-meekspace/#axzz2VvgCqHz h
You can also make a link to the online Watchtower Library, just go to this link: wol.jw.org. Then click on the share button. Then Click add to home screen. Then type in what you want the link to be called (like Watchtower Library). Then click add. A link will then be on your home page. when you tap on it, it will take you right to the Watchtower Online Library (but you will need to be on the internet to go to the page)
    Hope This Helps!

  • I suddenly am not getting my email, contacts, and music apps to operate.  I think it may have something to do with my recent iCloud account and iTunes Match.  I've read and tried most of the help suggestions that have not helped.  Any suggestions?

My mail, music, and contacts apps suddenly disappeared and apps appear frozen.  It happened right during my upload of music to iCloud, which may just be coincidental or part of the problem.  Any ideas or suggestions?

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more.  I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.
Your points are true; however it doesn't help me......

    Help please

Reinstall OS X using one of the following. The first is for Snow Leopard and the later for Lion/Mountain Lion.
Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
