Which 3.5 mm cable works for Aux connections

I have the iPod touch 4 and in the car we have a 3.5 mm extension cable (female to female), but when we plug the cable into the iPod there is just thud sounds but not music. If I play with the cable buy pulling it out of the iPod a bit (being partially in) then I get some music, but this is not a fix since someone needs to be holding the cable partly out.  I have no problem with other devices such as other brands of MP3 players, just the iPod.  I should also add that I had this iPod replaced not long ago and the previous iPod also had this same issue so it's definitely an issue with the plug and cable.
What should I be looking for in terms of a 3.5 mm cable that works with the iPod so I can listen to music via aux cable?

- The jack on the iPod accepts a standard 3.5 mm plug.
- Do headphones work OK in the iPod?

  • Solution that worked for iPad connection to "n" nework!

So, reading of the many wireless issues with the iPad, specifically connecting to, and maintaining a stable connection to an 802.11'n" network, I decided to do some research. Many solutions here, suggest altering the radio mode to "g" only, as this is what the Ipad seems consistently able to "talk" to.
After applying the steps below, my iPad now has a completely stable connection to my "n" network. I should mention that I have a dual-band network setup at home, one (b/g) via an older "domed" Airport Extreme Base Station; the other is via an original Time Capsule (circa 2008), which was set to an "802.11n only 5GHz" mode. Using Airport Utility, I could see that in the Wireless tab, the TC "channel" option, was set to "automatic." NOTE: this is BEFORE my modification that solved the issue.
After reading up on the subject, I learned that the5GHz range of a router can be significantly shorter compared to 2.4GHz; one can move a short distance away from the 5GHz router and your connection will dwindle or drop all together, whereas with a "g" radio mode, in the 2.4GHz mode, the distance allowed, seems far greater. Now, with the channel option of the TC set to "automatic",(under the "wireless" option in Airport Utility setup), it is quite possible that the device is selecting a lower channel, when none is specified. The lower the channel, the lower thepercentage of the transmission rate, which in turn drastically reduces the signal strength, leading to the endless loop of dropped connections, or even worse, the "n" network being invisible to the iPad altogether.
Here is what I did to produce a totally excellent connection to an 802.11n network, using an Apple Time Capsule (TC). The secret is in forcing the base station to operate ONLY on a higher channel!
    1) Using Airport Utility, use the "manual setup" option to reconfigure the TC. Select the "Airport", then "Wireless" tab.
    2) Select the "Radio Mode" to _802.11n only 5GHz_
    3) Important step! Look at the "Channel" tab - if it is set to "Automatic", this is what needs to change! In the original TC, you will need to hold down the Option key to see the other available channel selections:
I selected 153, but anything over 149 (including), should produce the desired results. Remember, in the 5GHz range, the higher channel will produce a higher transmission rate.
4)Still in the Wireless tab, click "wireless options". Make sure that "Use wide channels" is checked.
    5) After the above steps are completed, update your Time Capsule.
    6) Now go to your iPad, open your Settings/Wi-Fi.
Select your "n" Nework, >configure> select to "Forget this Network".
Now connect to your "n" network again, you will be prompted for your password, enter it and voila! you should have stable connection "n", without having to resort to the "g" only regression!
Just for your info, my wireless encryption is set to WPA2 Personal.
I really hope this works for others as well as it has worked for me. This setup was done over 4 hours ago, and I have experienced consistently excellent range/signal all over my house (4,800 sq ft), through closed doors, on different floors, even the garage!

Thanks for the suggestion. I followed them to the letter. I have a time capsule and a base station. I switched the time capsule as you suggested. I got rid of the previous connection on the ipad and connected. At first when it started I had full bars. I walked to the opposite side of the house (2000 sq. ft house) was going strong and it dropped to one bar. If I turn the ipad off for awhile full strength comes back. Unfortunately, in my experience no joy.

  • HTTP Policy doesn't appear to work for all connections

Can someone explain to me why I might see a connection (in this case port 80) being optimized for some connections but not others? My http policy states that destination port 80 get's optimized, and I see it for some connections and not others. Running 4.1.1a
    TIA

    Michael,
What is the status of the connections that are not being optimized? Are they is pass-through?

Mac Mini's optical out to my audio system's Toslink optical in using this cable?

Or must I use an adapter/Toslink cable combination?

If both works, which one is better in your opinion?

The cable in the 1st link should work fine. (Toslink to Mini-Toslink)

  • Does the composite AV cable work for iPad2?

I could not get a "yeah" from anywhere of the HK reseller/dealer nor HK online store for the Composite AV cable supporting iPad2...whilst it is stated compatible at US & UK Apple online stores...so, is there any driver/version compatibility issue for those sold in HK? Anyone helps with the intell before I buy one. Thanks...

Thanks guys...it really gets to the situation that I may need to have 3 different cables for different purposes, composite for my analog in-car LCD player, hdmi for my home HDTV, and one for VGA projector at work. All these unfortunately come by different interfaces from different production time. I hope I can get some all-in-one converter or some sort that I don't have to spend big bucks buying 3 Apple cables but probably the newest hdmi. Researching is still in progress...

  • Would an S-Video cable work for iPod to TV Viewing?

I know apple recommends to buy this cable.
However I really don't want to pay $20.00 when or if I can use an S-Video cable. I have an Apple iPod dock that has an S-Video port on the back of the dock, and I was wondering if I wanted to view pictues or videos on my TV... could I just hook up an S-Video cable to the dock, change iPod to TV-On, and be able to watch my stuff on my iPod on my TV? Or would I need Apples special cable?

I use an sVideo cable on my dock and it works good. I also use a stereo plug to rca plug y cable to get sound from the dock to my tv. Radio Shack carries these audio cables.

Does anyone know if this works, I want to use a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable http://bit.ly/6BT6W3 to connect my MacBook Pro to my Sony LCD HDTV via HDMI to watch movies from my laptop in my TV? I read that there were problems with the audio using the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.

No.  Even though they look almost identical, they are different.  Meaning it will not work. Sorry.

  • I downloaded 4.0 when prompted, but it did not open upon completion and now shortcut does not work and cannot find file to run 4.0 in the firefox folder. Tried restarts and reinstalling 3.6 which now also won't work for me. Ideas?

I downloaded 4.0 when prompted yesterday. Seemed to download normally but did not automatically start following download even though that option was checked. The shortcut now is broken and efforts to fix it fail because the file cannot be found. Checked the firefox folder and do not see a file to run firefox. Tried restarting twice with no luck. Then tried multiple times to reinstall 4.0 with no success. Then tried uninstalling and reinstalling 3.6 with same result.

OK. Got it figured out. Disabled my virus scanning software and the download worked perfectly. Should have thought of that before now.

  • How to pass Multi and Singlr value Parameters to DB2 query, which is using in SSRS report for ODBC connection

    Hi Guys,
I am using DB2 database in SSRS. I have to pass Single Value and Multi Value Parameters. I tried with Select * From DB2Table Where
    Column=@PRM_Name Or Select * From DB2Table Where
Column=:PRM_Name . It is not working and throwing error. Please help me out.
    Connection Details: ODBC
    Thanks Shiven:)

    Hi SKM,
So you mean to say that Go to DataSource->Add Dataset-> Query Type-Text-> Under Query:
click on fx (Expression)-> Write this expression
    For Single Value Parameter:
    ="SELECT customer_name, telephone_number, address1, address2, city from MyTable
    WHERE city = '" + Parameters!City.Value + "'"
    OR
    ="SELECT customer_name, telephone_number, address1, address2, city from MyTable
    WHERE city =  '" & Parameters!City.Value & "'"
Keep it in mind if Parameter is String then
It should be in Single quote ''.
     Like
    ="SELECT customer_name, telephone_number, address1, address2, city from MyTable WHERE city
    ='Hyderabad' "
    For Multivalu Parameter:
="SELECT EmployeeID, FirstName, LastName, LoginID FROM SHIVEN.AUDIT Where FirstName
    in ('" + REPLACE(JOIN(Parameters!City.Value,","),",","','") + "')"
    NOTE:
If your Parameter is Single Value Parameter and You want to enter string values with Coma (,)
    separated (Like Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi).
In this case, you have to use below expression.
    ="SELECT customer_name, telephone_number, address1, address2, city from MyTable
    WHERE city IN ('" + REPLACE(Parameters!City.Value ,",","','") + "')"
    OR
    ="SELECT customer_name, telephone_number, address1, address2, city from MyTable
    WHERE city IN  ('" & REPLACE(Parameters!City.Value ,",","','") & "')"
In above expression: Replace will replace all , with ‘,’ and city IN (‘Hyderabad’, ‘Chennai’,
‘Delhi’) will not throw any error.
Note: You have to write expression in one line in Expression editor for dataset
    query
Thanks It is working fine but it is tough job if query is big.
    Hi S kumar,
The above approach we use when we have source like DB2, becasue DB2 has some syntactical differences to pass multivalue paramaeter. I tested and it works good, if i am mentioning the query in above format by using Fx button while creating dataset.
but if we want fetch data from view which exist in DB2 and we need to call db2 view in SSRS and pass multivalue parameter in a way we did above then could you please mention the steps and way to achieve this.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Making Application deployment working for VPN connection

    Hi Guys,
Am trying to deploy application to users machines which are connected to VPN.
I dont have any idea, is that any https connection my SCCM will support. If it is failing, what all the series of steps i need to follow to enable deployment via VPN connection.
    Please suggest.

If clients are connected through VPN, they will work exactly as any other client you have on your LAN.
Just make sure that you also specify a boundary for you VPN clients, like you do with you LAN clients.

  • Fn+F5 does not work for Wireless Connections.

Hi, I have Lenovo G580 Notebook. I have recently upgraded to Windows 8 PRO. I have installed all the required driver and components from Lenovo Drivers support website (Including the Power Management Software). When I had Windows 7, I used to press Fn+F5 on the keyboard to access the shortcut to wireless connections. But in Windows 8, when I press Fn+F5, It displays Airplane Mode ON/OFF. In Windows 8 PC settings, the wireless as well as Bluetooth options have greyed out. I have installed the right Bluetooth driver (Atheros AR3011 Bluetooth 3.0) and wireless driver (Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless network driver). But still no way to turn on the Wireless network and Bluetooth.
    What to do? Any Ideas?

Remove Energy Management for Windows 8 and install version for Windows 7, Fn+F5 should work just fine.

  • UTP Cable Length for AP connect to POE Switch

    Dear All,
What is the limitiation on the length of UTP Cable for connect AP to POE Switch.
    Thanks.
    C.K.

I believe it's consistent with the limits for structured cabling: 100 meters end-to-end, assuming the cabling system is compliant with EIA/TIA sandards.

  • Does the adobe connect mp3_player extension built for adobe connect 8 work for adobe connect 9?

I've attempted to share the .swf file in Adobe Connect 9, but I'm having difficulty getting it to play.
It maybe that I just do not know how to install the extension. Help is appreciated.

It should work fine. You do need to load the entire Zip file though, as it used the XML file to call to the audio files that it plays. The Zip should contain the equalBars.swf, index.swf, and songs.xml files.
