Which Acrobat Version to save/export to?

I'd been trying to research to find out what version Acrobat Reader version people are using.
For example in 2011, according from research from AVAST, the Adobe Reader User Base was:
Versions 3, 4, 5  = 3%
Version 6  = 2%
Version 7 = 6%
Version 8 = 14%
Version 9 = 35%
Version X = 40%.
I would like to find out current statistics. Does anyone have any insight?
Adobe Reader User Base?
Versions?

Since the last version of PDF is PDF 1.7, and this is openable by Acrobat 6 or Reader 6 or later, this isn't much of an issue any more. Setting security is more of an issue.
Frankly, Adobe Reader statistics are no longer interesting, because more people now have non-Adobe Readers. You may not be aware how many. Anyone with
* Chrome
* FireFox
* Macintosh
* Windows 8
* iPad, iPhone
* Android
has a PDF viewer already and may see little reason to get Adobe Reader. Sadly I have never seen a study of what these try to be compatible with.

    I don't know whether such information exists, but if you use PDF 1.6 you'll be likely to cover a large majority of all users.

  • Which acrobat version?

    There is a way to known the version of acrobat that use air.
    And if is a reader or the full version?
    I need to check if the user have the right version of acrobat
    (8.1.3 or 9) that solve a big problem for me.
    thanks

    Hi,
    You can use HTMLLoader.pdfCapability to check if the machine
    can render PDF content properly. It will let you know if the
    installed reader is too old, if reader is not found and if there is
    supported reader, but the reader set to display PDF is too old.
    Code:
    if(HTMLLoader.pdfCapability == HTMLPDFCapability.STATUS_OK)
    trace("PDF content can be displayed");
    else
    trace("PDF cannot be displayed. Error code:",
    HTMLLoader.pdfCapability);

  • Acrobat Reader Versions and saveAs, exportXFAdata Problems

    We use generate Forms with Reader Extension Save enabled.
    The forms are then opened within Acrobat Reader. In the onClose Event a Script called "saveXMLData" is called. This script is install in the javascript folder of the reader installation.
    The script :
    var saveXMLData = app.trustedFunction(function(doc)
         app.beginPriv();
         doc.saveAs({cPath:"/c/windows/temp/savedForm.pdf",
              bCopy: true,
              bPromptToOverwrite: false });
         doc.exportXFAData({
              cPath:"/c/windows/temp/savedForm.xml",
              bXDP:false
         app.endPriv();
         return;
    Using Acrobat Reader 7, eveything worked fine.
    Using Acrobat Reader 9 "saveAs" crashes the Application after the document is saved and the filled in Data is not saved.
    Without the saveAs function, at least the export File is generate but the data that where filled in are missing.
    Using Acrobat Reader X "saveAs" crashes the Application as well. Leavin out the saveAs function, the export File is generated as expected. Thus the filled in data values are saved.
    Using Acrobat X Pro everything works as with Acrobat Reader 7.
    Our Problem is that the customer uses Acrobat Reader 9. Are there expected incompatibilities with the different versions. Does anybody know any workarounds, settings?
    By the way disabling extended security does not help.
    Thanks
    Max

    It cannot be a problem of the installation, because at least Windows 7
    was a fresh install with nothing but Reader additionally installed.
    By the way, what do you mean by "risky", I followed straight the
    documentation from Adobe, where one is allowed to place function calls
    requiring a privileged context.
    Have you any better idea where to place the call to save? It must be
    called automatically, when the User closes the window, no additional
    interaction is possible.
    One other thing is the call to exportXFAData, have you any idea why
    there is a difference in behavior between reader version 7 / 10 and 9?
    I wrote that in version 9 the user entered data is missing.

    Sorry, I don't have any ideas except for trying to repair the installation

    However, placing code in the WillClose event is considered risky and should
    be avoided if there are alternatives available.

  • Acrobat 9.4.2 does not save/export all graphic formats

    Dear all,
    Obviously i had my glass of wine to early! See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798630 for the whole story of my re-re-re-istallation of Acrobat.
    The installation of 9.0 from the TCS2 DVD was OK
    After update to 9.2 my tests displayed correct results for all desired tasks
    After the update to 9.4.2 i obviously did not test thoroughly enough (hence the glass of whine).
    Later it turned out that 9.4.2 does not save/export graphic formats:
    pdf (all flavours), eps and ps are exported correctly
    html (all flavours) export a html file and the image as jpg correctly
    jpg, jp2 does not save anything, and no error message gives a hint
    doc, rtf save issue error message "Save As failed to process this document. No file has been created"
    png and tif do not save anything, and no error message gives a hint
    xml table and xml export correctly
    txt (both flavours) are exported correctly
    Hence the only method i can get a picture is to export as HTML and through away the HTML... or: enlarge the picture as much as possible on the screen and take a screen shot.
    What is missing in this installation?
    During my re-re-re-installtions some Windows updates may have happened.
    Any help available for this issue?
    Klaus Daub e

    The story goes on and hopefully Adobe has an answer/fix for this
    There was an automatic update from 9.4.2 to 9.4.3, but the problem still existed.
    So I decided to uninstall Acrobat and re-install it for the nth time: start with the installation of 9.0 from TCS2, reboot, update to 9.2, reboot, update to 9.4.3 and reboot again.
    The result is very mixed (and this was alrady with the newly installed 9.0):
    Save as RTF or DOC creates RTF and DOC files - although the contents is not that useful.
    Save as PNG is OK
    Save as JPG, JP2 or TIF works, but it turns out, that the files are all PNG (although with the various extensions)!
    Creating a snapshot now works correctly. The clipboard receives a bitmap. However: although I have set the preferences for the snapshot to be of 96 dpi the bitmap gets the property 72 dpi!
    Setting acrobat.exe to be Compatible to XP SP3 does not change a jota.
    Keep in mind: on Windows XP things worked correctly for a long time. Switching to Window 7, x64 creates this strange problem.
    I need to start with Acrobat from the TCS2 DVD, because otherwise I do not get the correct implementation for working with FrameMaker.
    I'm very reluctant to buy Acrobat X, for me there are too many gimmics there (besides the costs).

  • Which is the correct Registry Path to Get Adobe Acrobat Version?

    Hi All
    Originally, this post was put  on [Acrobat Windows] forum, i am reposting it here, since i didnt get any answer.
    I am currently using Adobe Acrobat 9.1.3 Pro in my Win XP - SP3 machine.
    I would like to know how can i get the 'CORRECT' version of the installed Adobe Acrobat from the registry.
    Under windows Registry, i could find two places
    - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.App\AcrobatVersion.
    - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document\AcrobatVersion.
    Among these two, the first keys value shows as 8.0 and the latter shows as 9.0. I guess the first one is the correct place to look but it shows as 8.0.
    by the way, i have installed it on a fresh clean machine. So is it a bug from Adobe Acrobat ? or is it correct for Adobe Acrobat ( may be in some way).
    In that case can i  use 'AcroExch.Document' but will it be retained in the future versions also.
    thanks in advance
    regards

    Hi Patrick,
    We are using it to query the version of the installed Adobe Acrobat in the machine in which our application is installed. If it doesnt matches our criteria, we ask the user to have the correct version to be installed.
    We queried the OLE interface for the Acrobat Version because at a time you are suppose to have one installation of the Adobe Acrobat. And morevoer the OLE reg path is giving the 'Acrobat Version'. For AA8.X both the OLE registry keys were having the same version number i.e 8.0.
    Yes, i guessed that the reason for multiple versions under the [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\X.0\Installer] may be for some backward compatibility. Anycase, i have already gone with the HKLM...\X.0\Installer path way.
    But why is that the OLE interfaces in the registry shows two different 'Acrobat Version' for the AA9.??
    thanks and regards

    Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
    If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Acrobat XI does not export tables like Acrobat X when "Save As" to MSWord

    I have some pdfs that clearly have tables in them. Acrobat X can save them to MSWord just fine. Acrobat XI does not.
    I've tried all combinations of the layout settings ("Retain Flowing Text"/"Retain Page Layout") and image settings (Include Images on/off) and MSWord versions (.doc/.docx) and none of them result in tables like what X does.
    Is there a way to make XI behave like X when saving as MSWord documents?

    Make sure you apply all updates to Acrobat 11.

  • Minimum Acrobat version for creating forms clients can download, complete, save

    I have a client who is a medical professional who wants to create a set of client intake forms that new patients can download to their desktop, complete and then return in advance of their scheduled appointment. Specifically
    1. The form needs to be one that does not require them to complete it all in one session as it is a rather lengthy and extensive form.
    As well client has Adobe Acrobat version 7 and from looking at the upgrade page does not appear as if he can upgrade to a version that enables editible forms. Is this true?
    So if it is true, I just need to know what version of Acrobat the doctor needs to purchase in order to create his new patient forms.
    Thank you
    Dan

    A note, though this is probably already taken care of: be sure that the user is not invited to EMAIL the form. This would be a serious breach of patient confidentiality and in some countries could lead to legal action and unlimited fines. You MUST use a secure web based system or physical delivery (only likely if the patient is filling the form on a surgery computer).
    Also be aware that there are a huge number of non-Adobe PDF readers which do not fill forms correctly, even though the client may think that they have, and even though the client may believe they are using Adobe Reader! You need detailed knowledge of this because patients will need a lot of hand holding.

  • Adobe XI Acrobat won't save documents after scanning

    Quite frustrated with this issue.  I just purchased 23 new workstations and bought Adobe for them.  3 have Pro that I downloaded straight from Adobe's website, 20 have Standard that came through Dell Digital Delivery.  Every single workstation has this same problem where we can use our desktop scanners to scan in documents, but then we can't save them using the "Save" or "Save As" button.  This happens about 90% of the time, and then it works properly the other 10% of the time.
    I've updated the drivers and the firmware on my scanners and each of these workstations is brand new, ordered from Dell, Optiplex 9010s and 7010s with 8 GB ram, i5 or i7 processors, Windows 7 64 bit, brand new Acrobat version 11.
    We've been using Adobe Acrobat for a long time.  Version 7, 8 and 9 on our XP computers and have never had this problem elsewhere.  Out of curiosity I removed XI and installed 9 on to one of the workstations and it worked perfectly.  I removed 9 and reinstalled 11 and the same problem is present.
    I spent more than 6 hours in chat support between 5 different techs this last Friday and they're telling me they don't know what the problem is and that it has to be referred to a developer.
    Anyone else having this issue?  Any solutions?  Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    I've worked with several more different techs and had my 3rd party IT company work with Adobe as well.  At several different points in time, the techs were totally not comprehending what the problem was, even though it was spelled out in plain English for them.  We're on Win 7 and two different techs were working with me as if I was on Win XP.  There is a terrible lack of communication with Adobe, even when I've sent in detailed information in writing to them.  They've failed to escalate to higher tier techs and keep having techs work with me that are reading from an online manual rather than being knowledgeable in the inner workings of Acrobat.  Very frustrating.  3 techs in a row attempted to appy the same fix, that didn't work, after reading the notes from the previous tech who attempted the same fix.  It was a total run around and the worst tech assistance I've ever received.
    At this point I've reloaded the Adobe software multiple times, installed updates and also used scanners with recent firmware and old firmware and it's still a problem.  After playing with it for weeks on end, I found that using "custom scan" and having it set up for "native mode" works successfully 100% of the time.  Any time I try any other scan options, I have the same problem again.  I've issued the Custom Scan directive to my staff and we are completely trouble free using this method.
    I finally got an answer, 6 weeks later, from Adobe after one of their people corresponded with Kodak on this issue.  They tell me that according to Kodak, we'll have to use Custom Scan in order to run trouble free...which of course we already found out.
    So, try the Custom Scan and in Native mode.  It's not inconvenient and works fine.  Good luck to everyone.
    PS...also, I found this issue to happen with both Adobe Acrobat X and XI on Windows 7 machines.  Adobe 8 and 9 work trouble free on the Win 7 machines.

  • PDF file error in  Acrobat version 9.0

    Hi guys,
    I am able to see the see PDF document via document viewer tcode - SDV if the local desktop Acrobat version is 7.0 but in other machines which has Acrobat reader 9.0. the document cannot be opened it saves in the desktop as .FAX file.
    I am using the SAPGUI version 640 release.
    Please let me know the reason.
    regards,
    Prabhu

    Hello Prabhu,
    this is a known issue. Please see note 1308147:
    The ECL Viewer 6.0 delivered with the SAP GUI 7.10 Compilation 3 has
    compatibility issues with Adobe 9 (Adobe Reader 9 or Adobe Professional
    9 or Adobe Standard 9). The SAP GUI crashes/freezes when viewing PDF
    files in transactions like SNOTE.
    The same problem is experienced if the standalone version of the ECL
    Viewer 6.0 is used with Adobe 9. But in this case the SAP GUI
    crash/freeze happens only if the ECL Viewer 6.0 is used in applications
    like SAP Document Mgmt. System to view PDFs first followed by PDF
    viewing in transaction like SNOTE
    Other terms
    ECL Viewer 6.0, Adobe 9, SAP GUI 7.10 C3
    Reason and Prerequisites
    The ECL Viewer 6.0 supplies Adobe libraries which are not compatible
    with the ones supplied with Adobe Reader 9.
    The note is applicable to you only if you have installed the SAP GUI
    7.10 C3 with the Engineering Client Viewer for SAP GUI 7.10.
    Also, If in case you have installed the standalone version of the ECL
    Viewer 6.0 and use it in applications which use ECL Viewer within the
    SAP GUI
    Solution
    The Current workaround is to use lower versions of Adobe Reader till
    there is further update on this incompatibility.
    For more details on work arounds, please refer to the link given below

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro cannot save as word doc

    Adobe Acrobat Pro - Save as failed to process this document. No file was created.

    The File
    (1) The file has to be a PDF.
    (2) The file has to be a PDF that is adequately ISO 32000 compliant (a 'good' PDF).
    Number (2) is why, for most PDFs - most times, the export process chokes.
    (& no being of file extension "pdf" does not mean the 'good' PDF was created)
    The application.
    Consider a cold reboot.
    Ensure Acrobat is fully updated.
    Ensure Acrobat version is compatible with OS
    Consider doing an Acrobat "repair".
    If one goes the deactivate/uninstall route consider using the "cleaner" tool.

  • Video compatibility with older Acrobat versions

    Hi,
    I am attempting to send a PDF with an embedding video using Acrobat X Pro.
    While it works on my machine, and others with Acrobat 9, the client is struggling to view the video.
    I'm guessing they may not have an updated version -
    a) How far back does Video support go within Acrobat versions?
    b) Can I save a PDF back without losing the video support?
    Thanks,

    Rich Media Annotations (of the type created by Acrobat X when inserting a video, SWF or 3D file) are supported by Acrobat and Adobe Reader 9 and later on desktop platforms (Windows and Mac OS X). They are not supported by earlier versions, nor on mobile devices.
    The ability to create 'legacy' media, which was viewable in earlier desktop versions of Adobe Reader, has been removed from Acrobat X for security reasons.

    Sounds like you are a bit confused with version numbers.
    Latest AirPort Utility version for the iPhone / iPad is 1.3.3.  There is no option or capability to export/import settings on the iOS version(s) of AirPort Utility.....although you could take a series of screen shots and save them for future reference.
    AirPort Utility 6.3.x is found on a Mac.....not on iPhone / iPad. Export and Import options are found under the File menu in 6.3.x.
