Which Airport card for my G5 Dual 2.5GHz?

hello--I need to add an Airport card to my G5 Dual 2.5GHz, but it's not clear which model to get as some G5s aren't compatible with the card I've seen sold everywhere. My machine specs are:
Machine Model: PowerMac7,3
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Bus Speed: 1.25GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.1.8f7

The "Late 2005" dual-core G5s use a combined Bluetooth/Airport Extreme! module - but all the other G5s use the card above.

Sorry to be a bother but I'm new to the forum & need some help. I'm currently upgrading my Power Mac G4 w/400 mhz & I'm looking to go wireless. That computer takes the original AirPort card or a PCI card or external component which provides wireless access. The AirPort Extreme card is incompatible with it.

Which Airport Card For eMac USB2.0

Hi All
I am just about to purchase a eMac USB2.0 and I am very confused about which type of Airport Card to install. I have read in some places that it takes the original Airport Card and then on this Apple site it says that this model is Airport Extreme ready.
Which one do I need?

Every reference I have says its the extreme version.
However, before you buy, find out if the serial number of that eMac falls in the ranges noted in this Apple article:

A significant number of machines within these ranges suffer from a logic board problem that is impractically expensive to fix unless you have little or no money in the computer. The Apple program that fixed this at no charge expired last summer, so you would be on your own for the significant cost of repair.
The issue affected USB 2.0 eMacs with 1.0 and 1.25 G processors. I've never heard it affecting the later 1.42gHz machines. Hopefully you are looking at a 1.42 eMac, as they are fine machines with "new-enough" video chipsets to support Core Image technology used by OS 10.4 and later.

Which video card for Aperture and dual monitors?

I have a G5 dual 2.0 with a GeForce FX 5200 video card that is driving one 23" Cinema display. I need to upgrade my card per the specs to run Aperture. I have also been thinking of getting a second 23" display. Can someone recommend the best video card for me. I know very little about video cards and have been reading a lot this morning. Thanks,

No. PCIx and PCIe or PCI Express are not the same thing.
PCIx is an extended or slight sped up version of PCI. While PCIe is a switched bus structure instead.
Hence they are not the same. That is what all of the big news is about Apple has made the leap over to PCI Express.

Which Airport Card for 1 1/2 Yr Old Emac

I have a new roommate who bought an Emac a year and a half ago. We have a wireless hub for internet access. Apple says that the "new" Airport card will not work on this computer and they don't sell the "Old One".
So, what is the model of the old one and where do you get it? Is Apple after sales support always this difficult?

The first generation of eMac (700/800MHz, 100MHz bus) uses the original Airport card. All newer and faster eMacs use the current Extreme card. Your roommate can check their specs through the Apple menu - About This Mac - More Info - and check the speed and system bus size.
If it's the original eMac, you can try links through lowendmac.com to try and find the Airport card.

i think it's a late 2005 model (11,2). having difficulty finding the right airport card to connect to my wireless broadband network at home. bought a wireless USB adapter but this won't work. any ideas would be hugely appreciated! thanks.

Which graphics card for a G5 Dual 2.7

Hi. I've got a Dual G5 2.7GHz and I'm thinking about upgrading the graphics card. Problem is, I'm not sure which cards will work and how much improvement they will give me. I currently use two 20" cinema displays so the new card will need 2 DVI out ports, or some way of connecting 2 DVI monitors. Currently my G5 has an NVIDIA 9650 card in it which came with the machine. I mainly need extra graphical grunt for games and sims. Can anyone give me some advice as to an upgrade path please ?

The ATI Radeon X800 XT - Mac Edition is probably your best bang for the buck. It has one DVI and one ADC connector so you'll need the ADC to DVI adapter to drive two DVI monitors.
You can find it at the Apple store.

Which Airport card do I need for an iMac G4 Flat Screen 15"?

Hi, I have an iMac G4 (flat screen, with silver arm and round base), 15".
I'd be extremely grateful if someone could let me know which Airport card I need for this Mac and also whether or not I also require an adaptor. I have looked this up on the Apple site and also in 'The Flatscreen iMac for Dummies' book (I'm a complete technophobe, I'm afraid!), but am none the wiser.
If possible, model numbers for the Airport card and adaptor that I do need would be much appreciated.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and click on More Info, or if you're running Mac OS 9, choose Apple System Profiler from the Apple menu. Check the speed of the computer's CPU; if it is below 1GHz, you need the regular AirPort card, with the AirPort Extreme card being used on newer iMacs. No iMac G4 requires an adaptor to use an AirPort card.

Airport card for my g4 adp tower... I can't get it to work.

I'm not very good with computers (when it comes to technical support). And I recently purchased an original airport card for my computer. I also burned the downloads onto a disc so that I would have the software. My computer has an operating system of 10.3.5. I downloaded the driver, turned off my computer, insterted the card and it pops up with an error that says it can't find the airport base station. What is this and do I need to buy something else for my computer? My internet connection is Comcast wireless. Any suggestions, thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. It sounds like you are trying to run either the Airport Setup Assistant or the Airport Admin Utility - and since this software is only of use to Airport Base Station owners (which you are not) this software is of no use to you.
If your Airport card has been properly installed, you will see a fan-shaped icon near the right side of the MacOS menu bar - that is the Airport menu. Click on it, and a list of all in-range wireless networks will appear. The name of the wireless router supplied by Comcast should appear there - click on that name to connect to it. With some luck you will now get an internet connection.
If there are no wireless networks displayed when you click on the Airport menu, recheck the installation of your Airport card - you probably forgot to attach the internal Airport antenna cable to its connector on the Airport card.

Help...Can't figure out which AirPort card I need...

I need help figuring out which is the correct AirPort card for my old emac. (see specs below)
I don't know if this model is too old. I don't know how to tell if the emac is "ATI Graphics" or "USB 2.0." These are listed separately as two different emac models in the "compatible" computers for the AirPort Express card.
Any help/direction would be GREATLY appreciated!

Which airport cards work in Europe?

Does anyone know of which 802.11b original Airport Card works in Europe and which don't? I heard from a friend that there are some airport cards that do not work oversees. How can I identity the regional propensities of the card?
Any help would be appreciated!

The original AirPort cards, for the North American market, support only radio channels 1 - 11, and NOT the European channels 12 & 13. You could still connect to any European Wi-Fis that operate within the 1 - 11 channels, but not "see" those operating above that. If you need to connect to those additional channels, you would need to acquire a European version, if still available, from the third-party vendor.

Airport card for powerbook G4 12" Aluminum

I have a powerbook G4 12" aluminum and I have looked everywhere for an airport card. I have gotten two original airport cards and they did not fit,these cards are just a smidge too wide for the card slot. I know there is an apple card that will fit it because it had one installed at one point. I do recall a comment that there was a "small" airport card for the 12" aluminum but I have had no success in locating one. Can someone please help?

Yes, you could, but sometimes those people charge more than Apple does for its refurbished ones. And Apple's comes with a one-year warranty, while the eBay people usually don't, unless it's an eBay storefront seller. (Whatever they're called).
So, use your best judgment. Coming from me who buys things on eBay a lot, I'm not saying eBay is bad. But just comparing the two ($29 with a one-year warranty and straight from Apple, versus whatever price on eBay, same/higher/less than Apple's price, but possibly without warranty, etc., in this case, Apple would be the best bet).

Just looked over at eBay and did a search for "Airport Extreme Card" and the prices for Buy It Now range from $24.00 to $40.00. Current bids for those that are bid-only range from $0.99 to $18.00. So $29 from Apple isn't bad at all. (I do not work for Apple, by the way).

Hi, I have an iBook G4 with the small display; an acquiantance has the same laptop and she can use the wireless internet at our house no problem. Now I know I don't need a base station to be able to log into wireless but I don't know which airport card I should get; express, extreme etc ... any clues?
