If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.

I have two Airport Expresses running at my house. Both are connected to different types of speakers. Neither speaker set has its own equalizer, and both require a different EQ setting to sound just right. Does anyone know of a way to have iTunes automatically change its EQ setting based on which Airport Express it is streaming to?

I'm in the same boat. I have a 6 zone amplifier running with 6 airport expresses to different rooms inside and outside the house. Each has it's own acoustic characteristics. I'd really love to be able to set each airport to equalize based on my SPL frequency sweep I did for each room.
Setting the eq in itunes won't do it as that is global plus I have many more sources for auiod other than itunes that use the AEs directly.

  • After a firmware update to airport express should I unplug the unit then plug it back in? (bascially reboot it)

After a firmware update to airport express should I unplug the unit wait a bit and plug it back in?  (basically a reboot)

I updated the firmware on the 2nd of this month.  Everything was fine.  About a week later internet speed began to be slow.  I rebooted the modem and the speed was okay for awhile, then slow again. I'm wondering if it's the airport express.  It didn't tell me to reboot at the end of the installation.

I have bought a new airport express and using it with my macbook (iTunes 10.2.2). I have joined an existing wireless network for internet in my home and with that i am trying to play the music via itunes but there is audio dropouts every 60 secs or so. I am using a set of speakers from kenwood connected to the airport express. The operating system on my macbook is mac os X 10.5.8. i am sure it is not a problem of streaming music online because i have even tried playing music which are stored in my macbook.
Is there any problem with the setting in itunes or quicktime ? Kindly reply...... I am waiting for your valuable suggestion.
Thank you a lot in advance.

I am shocked to have found this same AX audio dropout problem starting TODAY, every few seconds the audio just drops for a couple seconds and then resumes:  Latest software versions of everything.  No iPad, iPhone or Touch.  Internet hardwired to D-Link DES1105 (1000baseT Switch) hardwired to new 80211N AX, AX optical to stereo, AX Wi-Fi internet to basic 1st-gen MacBook operating at 80211G, and an older 'G' AX extender at the far end of the house, away from all this.  The MacBook streaming iTunes is usually 12 feet from AX.  I've used this setup for years of trouble-free AirTunes / Airplay until today.  Today I also found 2 very reliable fixes and 1 way to force a dropout, but first, I read some posts and tried ALL following settings one-at-a-time and restored them ALL because NONE of them helped:  Turned off IPV6.  Streamed to multiple speakers 'Computer' and 'AX' (restored to just AX).  Turned off 'Ask to Join new (WiFi) Networks'.  Turned off Bluetooth (can't live without Magic Trackpad, so glad that wasn't it).  Here's my discoveries:  Lo and behold, each time I click the Airport icon in the Menu (you know it shows you've got 4 bars from AX) when the status switches to 'Looking for Networks' for a second it CAUSES the AX audio to drop out for a couple seconds (it never did that before today.)  iTunes still playing, streaming, AX laser still lit, but the 'PCM' light on stereo and the sound GOES OUT EVERY time I click the Airport icon in the menubar, just like the regular, annoying dropouts.  So, to reduce traffic I quit Safari (3 tabs, no streaming, just Gmail, Google, and Netflix browsing).  Lo and behold, the dropouts stopped altogether.  No other Web apps going (not iTunes Store, Genius, Ping, nothing), so I launched Chrome to the same 3 tabs and the dropouts HAVE NOT RETURNED.  That's right, not only did simply QUITTING SAFARI cure it, and Chrome doesn't contribute to it, but I can demonstrate it just by forcing my Airport to re-scan.  Works for me, written using Chrome.  The other reliable fix is to hardwire MacBook to the Switch.  This is obviously not ideal, but Airplay audio doesn't drop out over Ethernet.  Also, in all my tests, it made no difference whether iTunes did the streaming, or Airfoil did.

  • How can I best make use of all my devices ? Mac mini, Apple TV, AirPort Extreme, airport express, ipad 2 (all purchased in 2011) and an old imac with OS X. I use my iPhones personal hotspot for all Internet.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to bakup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

  • TimeCapsule and 2 AirPort Express (11n) - cant get WDS to work

Hopefully someone can help me - I am running out of ideas ...
Its about a Time Capsule (TC) and 2 AirPort Express 11n (Express 1 and Express2). Express1 is supposed to extend the TC's WLAN so that Express2 can join in.
My WLAN is set to 11n only - 2.4GHz, but I have tried other radio modes as well. I "allow this network to be extended". I have set up Express1 to "Extend my Wireless network". Everything fine so far. TC and Express1 are coming up with the green light.
Now I try to set up Express2 to join the WDS as a remote base station connecting to Express1. In Express2 I choose "Manual Setup":
"Base Station": assigned a name (Express2) and I set a new Password
"Wireless": "Participate in a WDS network", set the Network Name, Channel and Radio mode
"WDS": set as "WDS remote" and WDS Main correctly to the AirportID of Express1 as I want Express2 to connect with Express1
Now I click "Update" and after the reboot Express2 remains flashing amber and I cannot connect to it anymore.
I have read the help pages several times and nevertheless I dont know what went wrong.
I have done tests with choosing "Join a wireless network" but ended up the same.
Can anyone help? Has anyone set up a WLAN running like I want to do it?
    1000 Thx for any hints!

Can anyone give me a few pointer on how to rewire
    ableton with le7.2??
The problem i have is that rewire DOES show up in the
environment page, but i just dont know where to start
from there. I always get intimmidated by that
    environment thing in logic.
First, you don't need to do anything with the Environment if you don't need to send MIDI TO Live. If all you want is to get audio FROM Live, follow these instructions:
    1. Create a new track in the Arrange window. You should be given the option to create a ReWire track. If so, select it. Your new track appears in the arrange.
    2. In the parameters window on the left of screen, you'll see a value called "Channel". Click and hold, then select "Audio", then "Rewire", then "Ableton Live", then "Mix L/R"
    3. Now launch Live. Any audio you play should be piped into Logic via the channel you created.
If you need to control Live via MIDI from Logic, all you need to do is create a Rewire object in the Environment, call it "Live", and change the "Device" parameter (again in the parameters box on the left of the screen) to "Live" and change the "Bus" parameter to whatever device you want to control within Live (or Reason, or any other Rewire slave). This is detailed on page 238-239 of the Logic Pro manual, which is available here (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/LogicPro7_ReferenceManual.pdf).
Sorry that I'm not in front of Logic at the moment, and some of the names of things might be slightly different. But this should get you started.

  • Wired Ethernet + Airport Express could not get them to work together

I am a newbie to Mac. My daughter has a Macbook. No wireless internet access is allowed in her dorm room. Each room has an Ethernet port with a cable so she could plug it in her Macbook and access the Internet. I bought her an AirportExpress a few weeks ago. I set the Airport Express up to connect her printer so she could print wirelessly and stream iTunes to her stereo within her room. I could do both without problem, but if I turned on the Airport on Macbook, Safari could no longer access the Internet. If I turned off the Airport, then the Internet works fine. The school does not allow connecting the Airport Express to the Ethernet Lan port in her room (for security reason), so I could not configure the Airport Express as others would normally do by also plugging in the Ethernet cable.
How could I get the above work by being able to steaming music via Airport and still be able to access the Internet via the wired Ethernet cable. Thanks

ssbkk, Welcome to the discussion area!
By default this is not possible. However using information from Apple's "Mac OS: Connecting to the Internet and sharing files locally at the same time" it might be possible. Try these directions:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    Choose the Network preference pane.
Choose the Ethernet port since you use this to physically connect to the Internet.
Click the TCP/IP tab. This pane should already be set up as directed by her school.
Choose Network Port Configurations from the Show pop-up menu.
If the Ethernet port is not at the top of the list, drag it to the top.
Locate the AirPort you want to use for Printing.
If AirPort is not second in the port configurations list, drag it to the second position.
Choose AirPort from the Show pop-up menu.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose Manually from the Configure pop-up menu.
    Enter these settings:
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    IP address: 10.0.1.201.
Leave the router and other fields blank.
    Click Apply Now.

  • MacBook Pro and Airport Express Aren't Getting Along

So this is a little crazy. My Macbook Pro cannot access the internet via my Airport Express [which I'm using to create a network]. All the other wireless devices in my house (iPhone, PS3, etc) are having no problem accessing the internet via the express. And my MacBook Pro can access the internet no problem when I'm connected to other networks...
My PS3 is getting downloads of about 11.5MBPS from the express, and my iPhone is getting about 6.8MBPS. Though my MacBook is connected to the network, it's getting little to no internet (best I've gotten is .07MBPS, so it's basically nothing).
Please help. I've tried EVERYTHING (PRAM reset, SMC reset, even bought a new Airport Express).
    Thanks!

Just checked that as well, it's set as a wireless N network that is B/G compatible... So it's got to be something else. Thanks for the suggestion though!

  • HT4600 Just bought a new  Airport Express trying to get the other airport clients to recognize new 802.11n Wifi?

Just purchased a new Airport Express 802.11N instal with new hi speed Xfinity moden in same location.  Cant get a green light on the 2 remote client  airports located in other spaces in home.  Help?

What is the exact model of the Xfinity modem that you have? Is the new AirPort Express connected directly to this modem by Ethernet?
By "remote client airports" do you mean additional AirPort base stations or Apple computers?

  • Which Macbook Air should i get? 11 or 13 inch model

Im 14 and i need a new computer. Mostly i use my computer for browsing, email, twitter, listening music, youtube and sometimes gaming. I like light laptops that i can when im in my bed, when im laying in sofa,... But now i cant decide what model should i get 11 or 13 inch model. I hope u guys  can help me.
                                                                                                                                                                 Jessica

    Hi Jessica,
I think that the deciding factor concerning which size to get would be how you intend to use it.  People who tote their macbooks around alot, such as sales people or executives (road warriors) and also students who need to take their computers to school, surely would benefit from the smaller 11inch version.  In your case, if you are going to use it in a comfortable environment, such as in bed, or on the sofa, the larger 13inch model would be more beneficial, especially if you watch videos and play games fairly often.  Even if you lug it around a little, to Starbucks or a friends house, or take it with you on vacation once in a while, I feel the larger model would be suitable for you.

  • Airport Express - Can't get started right out of the box.

First off I have Desktop with Windows XP SP3 and a Linksys wireless router and I don't know a whole lot about computers. I planned on using the Airport Express on an existing wireless network. My computer doesn't have a wireless modem but it's connected to the wireless router (just like it shown in the manual).
Installed the software (even got the new update), plugged in my Airport Express and hooked it up to the stereo. I opened up the Airport utility and it can't find the Airport Express. I read the instructions to join the wireless network for Windows. It says to hold the pointer over the wireless connection icon until you see your Airport network name (SSID), and choose it from the list. I don't have a wireless connection icon. I can connect my work laptop to the wireless router with no problem. What have I done wrong?????? I need help before I send this thing back.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
If AirPort Utility cannot find the AirPort Express, hold in the reset button on the Express until the amber light blinks quickly, hold a few more seconds, then release.
Try temporarily connecting an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the AirPort Express to see if AirPort Utility will locate the AirPort Express that way. Assuming you get a connection, click "Continue" to follow the guided setup to configure your AirPort Express.
When asked how you want to use or configure the device in your system, choose the "Join a wireless network" option.
Once you have the Express configured and updated with new settings, you can disconnect the ethernet cable and locate that Express where it will be needed.
