Which airport utility do I need?

Okay a bit confused. I have a Time Capsule connected to an older version Airport Express (single band). I need to make some changes to the Airport Express. On my MBP 13" running 10.8.1 I have Airport Utility 6.1. I can reach the Time Capsule without issue. I see the Airport Express listed but it tells me that this version of Airport Utility does not support this base station and I need to download and use Airport Utility 5.6.
I have tried to download and install Airport Utility 5.6 and 5.6.1. Both give me the same error that "The version of OSX on this disk is not supported". So is there no way to get to the settings of the older Airport Express on Mountain Lion 10.8.1?

Best to configure the AirPort Express using another Mac or PC that will run AirPort Utility 5.6.
Otherwise, you could try an "unsupported"** method using a special utility like Pacifist to manually extract the AirPort Utility 5.6 applicaton so that you can move it into the Utilities folder on your Mountain Lion machine.

  • Hi.  I'm trying to set-up the wireless access times in my Airport Utility.  I need to enter the "Description" and the "MAC Address" of each wireless client before I assign access times. What are these?  Thanks.

Hi.  I'm trying to set-up the wireless access times in my Airport Utility.  I need to enter the "Description" and the "MAC Address" of each wireless client before I assign access times. What are these?  Thanks.

Let's say that an iPhone is one of the wireless clients that you want to allow access to the network.
The Description of this device is anything that you want to specify for easy identification purposes. For example, the Description might be something like......
    Rex's iPhone
The MAC Address, also known as a Wi-Fi Address is  a unique indentifiction number that is assigned to every device. The number will always follow this form:
xx : xx : xx : xx : xx : xx, where "x" could be a number or letter.
To find the MAC Address or Wi-Fi Address of an iPhone or iPad.....
    On the Home screen.....
    Tap Settings
    Tap General
    Tap About
Wi-Fi Address is the item that you want
If you have a Mac computer......you can find the MAC Address or Wi-Fi Address as follows:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
Click on Wi-Fi on the left
Click Advanced at the lower right
The Wi-Fi Address for the Mac is located at the bottom of the window
Other wireless devices usually have the MAC Address or Wi-Fi Address on the label on the back or bottom of the device

  • Which version of Airport Utility do I need?

I am trying to manage and configure my old Airport Extreme Base Station..cone shaped, white, 2003.....
Airport Utily version 5.6.1 doesn't recognize it....how far back version wise do I need to go so I can download the right version?
    Thanks!

Using Snow Leopard you should definitely use AU 5.5.3. Later versions won't work.
If it is not being recognized, yes it's another problem. Perform a "hard reset" and attempt to establish contact with it again:
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds.
Release the button, and the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule will hard reset.
Edit: Bob Timmons may be right. I no longer have an original AEBS to test. The AirPort Utility version is correct but if it can't find the Extreme it might require a Mac running Tiger. If you can locate one of those, I am certain that will work. Another alternative is to use a PC with a version of AU for Windows.

  • Which Airport card do I need for an iMac G4 Flat Screen 15"?

Hi, I have an iMac G4 (flat screen, with silver arm and round base), 15".
I'd be extremely grateful if someone could let me know which Airport card I need for this Mac and also whether or not I also require an adaptor. I have looked this up on the Apple site and also in 'The Flatscreen iMac for Dummies' book (I'm a complete technophobe, I'm afraid!), but am none the wiser.
If possible, model numbers for the Airport card and adaptor that I do need would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jeremy

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and click on More Info, or if you're running Mac OS 9, choose Apple System Profiler from the Apple menu. Check the speed of the computer's CPU; if it is below 1GHz, you need the regular AirPort card, with the AirPort Extreme card being used on newer iMacs. No iMac G4 requires an adaptor to use an AirPort card.

  • Airport Utility says update needed?

I have an Airport Extreme A1034 which has worked great for the past 6 years w. DSL modems. Just got cable internet and it will not work. I can't utilize Airport Utility to check MAC #, etc. because it says,
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support."
When I go to download APU v5.6, it says it is for Snow Leopard OS. I have Lion. What can I do? Thanks.

When I go to download APU v5.6, it says it is for Snow Leopard OS. I have Lion
Suggest that you download and install the correct version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion. This one:

  • Which airport utility download do I install on my windows vista pc?

I just purchased an Apple Airport Extreme router and need to know how to get to the download for my pc.

Something went wrong with the links I posted above, the text is correct but the links are wrong.
    Try this one:
    AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows:

    It should work with Vista.

  • Which airport card do i need for a imac g3 with mac os x 10.1?

I have a imac g3 with mac os x 10.1.What airport card will i need?

Hello puckey12345. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I have a imac g3 with mac os x 10.1.What airport card will i need?
The iMac G3s with a clock speed of 400 MHz or faster, has an internal slot for the original AirPort card. The AirPort card adapter is also required to use the card in an iMac G3. The AirPort Extreme card is NOT compatible.

  • Which Airport card do I need for my G4?

I have a dual processor G4 (1.25 GHz), bought in March 2003 and want to set it up to use with a Netgear wireless router at home.
Can I just buy & install the current Airport Extreme card or will I need to trawl EBay auctions for an older Airport card?

The only PowerMac G4 model that can use an Airport Extreme card is the one with an 800Mbps Firewire interface. If this describes your PowerMac G4 model (the other specs your provided including purchase date and dual 1.25GHz certainly are consistent with you owing this model) then yes - you can install an Airport Extreme card into it.

  • Airport utility "not supported on this architecture"

i have the original airport express, using macbook pro with 10.5.4. i've used the ax to extend the range of my current network, stream music, and share a printer. i moved and need to use airport utility to set up the network but it won't launch saying that the program is "not supported on this architecture". so... how am i supposed to configure the ax if the utility prog won't launch? i'm nor sure which firmware is on the ax, i presume the latest one.

wootang71, Welcome to the discussion area!
It sounds like you may have accidentally installed the PowerPC version of AirPort Utility. You need the "universal" or Intel version of it.
Where/how did you get the AirPort Utility that you are using?
OR are you trying to use "AirPort Admin Utility"?

  • Airport Utility says Mac connected to unkown Time Capsule

    Hi,
I have an issue with Airport Utility (6.3.2) and a Time Capsule in my local network. This is happening at work where I have an iMac connected to the local LAN via an Ethernet connection. Wireless airport is switched off. When I open Airpot Utility, however, it shows my computer connected to a Time Capsule somewhere in my local network. See the image below.
None of my colleagues, nor the system administrator, knows to whom that Time Capsule belongs to nor were it is located. If I go to System Preferences > Network and I disable the Ethernet port ("Configure IPv4", select "Inactive") my internet connection is gone, but Airport Utility still shows the Time Capsule as connected to my iMac.
The only manner in which Airport Utility will show the Time Capsule disconnected is by unplugging the Ethernet cable.
So, I have a few questions because I could not find the answers anywhere and my system administrators have no idea what is going on (they are specialised in Windows environments):
    1) The fact that Airport Utility displays a green light on the Time Capsule does it mean it is connected to my computer? If so, how can I disconnect it? Clicking on the Time Capsule icon I am asked for a password I obviously don't know. So I cannot acess its configuration pane.
    2) How do I know if there is any data traffic between my computer and the Time Capsule? I cannot find out its IP or MAC addresses (Airport Uitility will not show them to me).
    3) Is it possible that the internet traffic of the owner of the Time Capsule is being re-routed through my computer? My internet connection is indeed more unstable and slower than that of my colleagues (using Windows or Linux) but I can't figure out why.
    Thank you.
    iMac 21" (Late 2012, iMac13,1)
    Mac OS X (10.9.5)
    Airport Utility 6.3.2

    1. It isn't connected, but Airport Utility sees in on the network.
    2. There shouldn't be any data traffic unless you initiate it.
    3. Highly unlikely.

  • I have inherited 2 Power Macs sans Airport- what do I need please?

Hi everyone, I'm a first time poster, long time reader. Thanks for all the help everyone has given me through other's threads!
Problem: I have inherited 2 Power Macs and one Mac Pro, none of which have wifi capability.
In order to rectify this, can someone please tell me which Airport (Expresses?) I need to purchase for each one? Feel free to be specific- I can use G or N but prefer N. I plan to buy on a popular bidding site or equivalent.
All are different, here are the specs:
1: MacPro 1,1 (G5 2.66GHz, Quad Core Intel...) (No OS yet, would Lion be pushing it?)
    2: PowerMac 7,3 (G5 2.3GHz, Dual Core PPC...) (10.5.8)
    3: PowerMac 7,3 (G5 2.0GHz, Dual Core PPC...) (10.5.8)
Please don't ask what I will do with them, I do not intend to share my plans for world domination on an open forum.

OK, thanks for that, but I should have been clearer:
I would rather have the internal apple solution- many are available on auction sites (£5-£10), I just need to know which one is appropriate for my use. Can anyone supply me with a model / part number for the original Airports used in a PowerMac G5? Specs follow:
    2: PowerMac 7,3 (G5 2.3GHz, Dual Core PPC...) (10.5.8)
(The Intel G5 airport search is over. I have found an airport extreme card on an auction site and bought it for £5.)

  • I have a Power PC G4 which is running on OSX 10.5.8, it has the AirPort utility but cannot connect to the internet as my iMac can, I think I might need an AirPort Card? Is that the case or do I need something different to connect to a wireless modem?

I have a Power PC G4 which is running on OSX 10.5.8, it has the AirPort utility but cannot connect to the internet as my iMac can, I think I might need an AirPort Card? Is that the case or do I need something different to connect to a wireless modem?

    Welcome!
Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.
To get fast wireless without buying more than one thing, consider this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722IN/
It goes in an available PCI slot
There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:
    USB wireless "dongle:"
Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
    USB PCI adaptor:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity%7c1&Ne=5 000&N=7069&Ntt=USB+PCI
Each approach has its advantages. The PCI wireless card is a one-piece solution that takes up no desk space. The USB2 card+USB2 Dongle gives you more fast ports for transferring date from other external USB devices (primarily cameras and external hard drives) at hugely faster rates than can the original ports. I have a USB 2 PCI card in my G4 tower strictly for transferring images from my digital SLR camera in a timely manner.
