I am using the pages application to transfer Microsoft .doc documents onto my iPad. What application is used to transfer Microsoft .xll documents across?

You could use Numbers. You can also put Dropbox and your iPad and computer and use it to share the Word and Excel documents. Keep in mind that your iPad can view Word and Excel documents just fine without any additional software. The trick is getting them to the iPad, which you can do by putting them on a website and browsing them, e-mailing them to yourself, or by putting them in your Dropbox and viewing them there (Dropbox even lets you copy the file to your iPad for offline-viewing).

How do I find out which application is stealing focus?

I'm having problems with my Macbook Pro in which my active window keeps deselecting every 5-10 seconds or so, which is making even typing this question extremely difficult.
I have figured out from searching the web that it is because of an application stealing focus. However, in all the boards that say how to fix this problem, none of them actually tell you how to identify which application is the one stealing focus.
The most information I could find was to go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor
and to look for which application is stealing the focus, but it doesn't say WHERE to look.
Do I look at CPU? Number of threads? Real memory? What?
Here are my specs:
- Mac OS X version 10.6.8
- Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
- Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
(Let me know if you need any additional info about the system.)
How do I figure out which application is the one stealing focus? (If you could write it in painfully simple instructions, that would be fantastic).

First, quit all applications, close all windows and reboot the Mac. Hold down the Shift key prior to the startup chime until it finishes starting. This is called a Safe Boot and causes the system to load only its components, no third party stuff and do other housekeeping tasks. Will take AWHILE, be patient. Run ONE Apple app at a time and see if the issue persists. If it does not, then you will have determined the system is OK and the issue is caused by a third party app. Now reboot normally and see if the issue reasserts itself. Try this and holler back.
Note: running Safe Boot in day-to-day use is unadvisable cause many apps require the use of their extensions and won't work correctly, if at all.

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....
but I would be more inclined to to the factory reset and start afresh.

Just install it using the EJB3 profile in the installer. Don't use the "All" profile
and think EJB3 is included in it :)

You could use Microsoft Office for Mac, but I would recommend iWork! It's a better set of applications for a much better price. I have used both and I prefer it over Office. And Pages can not only open Word documents, you can also save documents in Word format. My brother and I both used iWork as an Office substitute when we were in college (I graduated a few years ago and he just graduated last night) and haven't had any compatibility issues. Which application uses that file and prevents emptying the Trash?

This has been with the OS for quite some time. Every once in a while, when trying to empty the trash, I get the error message:
"The operation can’t be completed because the item 'filename.estension' is in use."
How useless is that? Now, if OS X told me which application is using it, I could close that one application, delete the file, and get back to work. Sometimes, I can guess the application as the one I actually last used to access that file. But every so often, it's the Finder's "quick look," but every once in a while, I just haven't the clue.
So, is there an OS function (even if a UNIX/terminal command) or a utility that can tell me the application that is still using the file in the Trash?

OK, to clarify: yes I use Lion (OS X 10.7.4) and I'd rather not close all applications. With Lion, I can just as well log out (which will close them) and log back in (which will reopen them). But, you realize that this is using a bulldozer to swat a mosquito: somewhere in the bowels of the OS X/UNIX, there is a "file in use" message from some application/process, which has not been cancelled (either because the application/process is really holding the file open or because the application/process has failed to clear the "file in use" flag).
A similar "feature" of OS X is when it prevents you from ejecting a volume because "it is in use." In that case, the "What's keeping me?" utility (by HAMSoft Engineering) comes to rescue, unearths the relevant culprit and reports it to the user. Yes, OS X should be doing it all by itself, but the 3rd party utility is just fine.
So, isn't there a way to unearth this info?

We have found that the account lockout was happening in their own machines with the help of the event logs in the domain controllers.

LockoutStatus application
 Run LockoutStatus.exe and choose File > Set target > Define “Target User Name”
and “Target Domain Name”
Tool will show you user with its “User State” (Locked/Not Locked), time when
account was locked (Lockout Time) and will allow you to Unlock Account if you
right click output string.
EventCombMT application
 This tool gathers specific events from Windows event logs of single or several
different servers to one central location.
 Run EventCombMT.exe > Right Click on “Select to search” field >Choose “Get DCs
in Domain” > Mark your Domain Controllers for search> Select “Security” log file >

If you go to Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnositic & Usage Data you can see what was used if it returns an error of any kind.

For .pdf files, I have set the application behaviour to "Always Ask", because sometimes I want to open the pdf, sometimes I want to save it. So far so good.
Now, when I want to open the .pdf, I have added an application to the dropdown list, so now I have "Adobe Reader 9 (default)" and "okular".
The problem is this: I *never* open using Adobe Reader. I always want to use okular, but Adobe Reader always appears first on the list, as it is the 'default'. This means I always have to click on the dropdown and select "okular", i.e. an extra step every time I want to open a pdf.
