Which backup RMAN recover will use?

Hi All,
Suppose we have RMAN backup of 2 weeks assume that we have taken incremental backup on monday to saturday and we take the full backup on sunday again we take the incremental backup on monday.
If we execute recover command which backup oracle will use? incremental backup which is taken on monday or full backup which is taken on sunday? please help me on this?

FROM RMAN reference http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta044.htm#sthref702:

Complete and point-in-time recovery of a database can use both incremental backups and archived logs. If RMAN has a choice between applying an incremental backup or applying redo, then it always chooses the incremental backup. Applying incremental backups is faster and captures NOLOGGING changes. If overlapping levels of incremental backup are available, then RMAN automatically chooses the one covering the longest period of time.
RMAN also applies incremental backups to restored files that were not restored from an incremental backup

  • Which parts of iCloud will use up data if not connected to wifi?

    Just started really actively using it today and was just wondering..

    You cannot access two different Wireless points at the same time.. so you simply cannot do this without spending some money.
    You can get a wireless usb stick for the Mac.. so you have two wireless clients.. setup the secondary wireless which will use the TC with a static address.
    Or you can join the TC to the neighbours network.. so everybody can use use it.. maybe not the best idea.. also incredibly slow.
    You can buy a wireless bridge device and stick that in front of the TC.. eg you can use an Express.. as bridge with ethernet connection to the TC.. and then the TC can act as both wifi and storagae for your network.. you may have double NAT issues or again anyone can access the TC that is using the neighbours network..!!
    That is all I can think of.. you can build variations around it.. ie you can buy a different wireless bridge device and hopefully the neighbour does know you are bumming his wireless.. and would setup wds on his router.. or maybe not.
    Having two wireless clients ie a wireless usb stick in the laptop is the easiest.

  • Can I choose which Backup to recover, or ir it always the latest?

    I recently installed iLife 08, but my iMac G5 doesn't meet iMovie's requirements (it needs 1.9 Ghz, I have 1.8Ghz), so I would like to go back to my previous iLife, which will be on TM Backups. However the latest Backups will have iLife 08, so I'd like to get a restore from a time before I installed iLife 08. Is this possible - can anyone help, please?

    Thanks Barney - is it really that simple? I didn't think to do that. Will try that this evening. Appreciated.

  • Can I just keep a copy of my bookmarks on my home NAS (network storage) disk which all my computers will use? I prefer it local under my control.

    Using Firefox 3.6 on several home computers. Windows XP. I just need to be able to point each browser to my common network disk to be able to save and retrieve bookmarks from the same file. Can I store all the profiles on the network disk somehow - will that help? Thanks.

    Incidentally, my first thought was to map a network share from the NAS to my computer, so that my music files appear on the Z: drive, say on my computer. I could then set up iTunes to store music etc in that folder, and to copy all new items to that folder. However, if I do that, all that'll happen is that on my NAS, the library file will become out of date as I add music to the collection but not to the index.

  • Which version of Firefox will use the least resources?

    I have an older pc, with 600Mhz processor, 130MB memory, and running win2000 sp4
    I want the version of Firefox that uses the least processor and memory resources, but is stable and functional with most websites.

    Based upon my experience with a similar (550MHz) processor and 768MB of RAM on W2K SP4, Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last version that works efficiently on an old PC like that; but many websites are not allowing that old version access any more. IMO, any 3.0+ version is going to be slow.
    Try using K-Meleon - same source code as Firefox, and it is made specifically for Windows operating systems.

  • If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use?

    Hello,
    I have a database 11.1.0.7 with 8TB. Block change tracking is enabled.
    At the weekend I take level 0 backup and during the week level 1 cumulative.
    For some weeks the level 0 backup is failing, so I only have level 1 cumulative backups taken every week day with a 4 weeks old level 0 backup.
    If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use? Will it be the last level 0 backup with the last level 1 cumulative?
    I ask this because grid crontrol tells me that the recent level 1 backups input size is smaller than last week level 1 backups and in between I dont have any level 0 sucessfull backups. Shouldn't the input size of level 1 cumulative increase until the next level 0 backup ?
    The grid reports:
    Backup Name Status Start Time Time Taken Type Output Devices Input Size Output Size Output Rate (Per Sec)

    From http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmvalid.htm
    Validating Backups Before Restoring Them
    You can run RESTORE ... VALIDATE to test whether RMAN can restore a specific file or set of files from a backup. RMAN chooses which backups to use.
    The database must be mounted or open for this command. You do not have to take datafiles offline when validating the restore of datafiles, because validation of backups of the datafiles only reads the backups and does not affect the production datafiles.
    When validating files on disk or tape, RMAN reads all blocks in the backup piece or image copy. RMAN also validates offsite backups. The validation is identical to a real restore operation except that RMAN does not write output files.
    You can monitor what RESTORE VALIDATE does.
    Make precautions, so you do not damage the production DB!!!

  • Which backup solution to use?

    I didn't see anything here, but only looked a few screens deep, so sorry if this comes up a lot.
    I just found out from reading here that I was running BOTH the Windows backup AND the Lenovo R&R backup. Nowhere does the computer warn about this (something that should be fixed, IMO).
    I deleted all the R&R backups and recovered almost 60GB of disk space.
    Can someone provide a link or an explaination as to which service is "better", or at least a comparison. From reading, it seems it is recommended to only run one of them. I saw one post which said R&R was better at recovering, etc, but I see other posts which says it just fails (for that person)...
    I have a 142gb drive (reported size for C  Thinkpad T61p purchased in Dec 2007, running Vista Ultimate with SP1
    Thanks.

    Can somebody guide,which backup solution to use on Oracle 8i (we will migrate DB to MS-SQL) so this will be temporary solution for DB backup.
    1) shutdown IMMEDIATE
    2) OS file copy all the files
    3) STARTUP

  • How to recover DB2 using offline file system backup.

    Gurus,
    I had a problem with my BI PRD's database. 1 of my BI consultant accidently deleted some important 2010's data. We've try recover online database backup of BWP into BWQ and retrieve the missing data. However the backup retention period was expired and we dont have any available online backup now.
    Only hope is my offline file system backup which backup the whole file system of BWP ONLY.
    My question:-
    Can i restore the file system (offline backup) into BWQ and rebuild my DB2 in BWQ. Please enlighten me.
    Thanks,
    Devan.

    Hi
    You can do it .The file system backup image can be mirroed into production system and by making using of "db2inidb" utility you can restore the whole database.

    Is there a way to see the size of my ICloud backup files, so I can determine which one I want to use?

    Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage.  Your backups are listed at the top, along with their sizes.  Note: this will only list your most current backup.  You may have your previous two backups available too but you cannot access any size information about them.

  • Which job is taking log Backup of specific database using command?

    In my SQL Server there are around 200 jobs of different databases for backup.
    Which job is taking log Backup of specific database using command?
    Kindly help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Its generally a bad design to create different jobs for different databases expecially backup and restore if you create you give specific names to the jobs otherwise it would be difficult for you to track. below query will give you littlt help but if you
    are running a proc to backup log files and that proc is situated in master database it wont help. If you are running SSIS package it wont help
    The column database name will help you in locating the DB name for which job is running
    use msdbgoselect sj.name,
    sj.description,
    jst.database_name,
    sj.date_created,
    sj.date_modified,
    jst.step_name,
    jst.command
    from
    dbo.sysjobs sj
    join
    dbo.sysjobsteps jst
    on
    sj.job_id=jst.job_id

  • Backup Physical Standby (Dataguard) using RMAN : Issues

    Hello All,
    I am running a RMAN backup on standby server using the command below. The RMAN backup is actually connecting to the primary database on another server, I found this very confusing and to reassure, i shutdown the primary database and ran the backup again. It fails with not able to conenct to target database. Can you please explain?
    run {
    allocate channel t1 type disk format '/backup/oracle/PRODCDW/RMAN/DBFILES_%d_t%t_s%s_p%p';
    allocate channel t2 type disk format '/backup/oracle/PRODCDW/RMAN/DBFILES_%d_t%t_s%s_p%p';
    recover copy of database with tag 'STDBY_PRODCDW';
    backup as compressed backupset format '/backup/oracle/PRODCDW/RMAN/DBFILES_%d_t%t_s%s_p%p' tag 'STDBY_PRODCDW' incremental level 1 for recover of copy with tag 'STDBY_PRODCDW' database plus archivelog delete input;
    }

    I am not doing the image copy anymore, I am taking the RMAN incremental backups for the database. I am not getting any errors now but, Here is what I want to achieve:
    I am running the RMAN backups on the standby database. I want to :
    1) Delete archivelogs on my PRIMARY server only when these logs are successfully TRANSFERED/APPLIED to all my standby databases?
    2) Delete archivelogs on my STANDBY server only when these logs are sucessfully APPLIED to the database?

    How do I upgrade the ram?
    The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

    Other World Computing
    Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
    Revert to a Previous OS X - Yosemite
    Revert to Snow Leopard
    If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

    I do some VJ-type work, involving playback of QuickTime files from the computer to projections, and I get good results using ProRes 422. That's convenient, because ProRes 422 is such a great editing codec, too.
    Traditionally, VJs use PhotoJPEG codec, which also works well, but it's a bad editing codec. So you would have to export an edited master, then convert.
    If you want it to look as good as possible, definitely schedule some time to test the footage on the wall. You may want to change the color correction of your footage to match the projectors. And if you feed the video wall some flat gray, you can see if any of the projectors need to be  adjusted.
    I'm not sure what application you're using for playback, but QuickTime Player 7 works well. It has an option to play fullscreen on an external monitor (View > Present Movie…).
