Which Basic Phones offered by Verizon have tethering capabilities? Very few options.

Hello - If you're familiar with the Verizon basic phones - which ones can be used to tether as a modem though Bluetooth AND  cable to a laptop? (It appears to me that they are offering only complete antiquated plastic featureless junk to push people to go with a smartphone requiring a data plan if purchased -  but are any available with tethering capabilities?) Even the reviews show MOST of the reviews for nearly every phone there users reccomend AGAINST buying?
I believe there are a HUGE selection of about 5 or 6 options to pick from - including the lg revere that boasts an incredibly avanced 1.3 mp camera and you can send a text message easily just by pressing keys numerous times to select letters individually until a word is created - but can the piece of plastic be tethered? Can any of the others shown?

I don't want to change plans and really don't want to buy another phone - but in order for me to keep the plan I have they say it requires buying a basic phone but not a smartphone as it would change my current plan. I currently use an old Motorola razr 2 v9m that that can be tethered to a laptop if needed. I hardly ever use the phone for either calling, or tethering, and never for text. Wifi is available in most places that I use my laptops and I have a Boostless prepaid phone at their lowest rates for blackberry's with unlimited everything for customers to call or text which is cheaper than anything Verizon has to offer - my verizon account is more of a redundant backup but would like to keep the number active as I have for the last decade.
If I could just buy a smartphone and continue as I am - I wouldn't be looking at their basic phones. This brings me back to my original question - can ANY of their basic phones be tethered? Anyone?
As I said since you do not use the phone as phone why not get a USB dongle on Share Everything plan. I don't you realize even if you could find a basic phone that could tether via bluetooth you'd be paying MORE per month. Than doing what I suggested. Now why do you want to pay MORE per month?
Basic phone with minimum minutes $40
Data plan 2 GB $30
Thethering Plan $20 includes 2 GB extra data
TOTAL $90
USB dobgle Share Everything plan with 4 GB data $50.

What is the best family plan option. Currently have one smart phone with 30gb of data and 3 basic phones. Also have home phone for $20/month. Current plan is 700 shared minutes and unlimited texting. My bill is close to $200/month, looking to lower if possible.

Great Advice given earlier by SuzyQ   - I believe the question not asked of you is ---what do you want to pay for the services that you need.  I think that it would narrow the groups suggestions if you could narrow your needs.
For example: I need talk and text on 4 phones and some data say, 2 Gig, on only one of the phones. what plan is the best cost for me? You may also need to ask what the cost may be to switch to a different plan. I suspect that there will be no cost within Verizon-but ask anyway.
I do not think that you can have a smart phone on any Verizon plan unless you agree to buy data for that phone. Also, you said that wifi is often available-however, I do not believe that Verizon allows talking over wifi without consuming airtime minutes-only data over wifi avoids your allowance to be impacted.
As most here already know, several other service providers offer wifi-friendly service (talk/text/data) that will provide  home/business/restaurant service without impacting your allowance- just not here.
After getting some suggestions here, call 611 and confirm availibility and price.
Best of luck in your research.

  • Basic Phones but I still have to pay for data?

I want to change my plan over from the 700 min plan to the Family share plan with unlimited talk and text...the only problem is that we have 4 basic phones.  I can pay the $30 per phone per month no problem...but then I'm forced to select the base 300mb of data plan (for $40/month) as well.  What is this paying for?  I'd be throwing away $40 a month for data that I can't use since we have basic phones.  There should be another option.  Has anyone else encountered this, and had it resolved?

Actually basic phones CAN use data. Also you're not paying $40 for the data. You paying $40 for unlimited minutes and texting AND data. And since the unlimited minutes and texting have a $40 value the 300 MB is basically FREE.
If you need more minutes then you can get the 1400 minute plan for $20 more than what you're paying for now as was said. or 2000 minutes for $40 more.
    So let's break this down
    1400 minutes,  4 lines, unlimited texting = $140
    2000 minutes, 4 lines unlimited texting =$160
Share Everything 4 lines, unlimited minutes and texting 300 MB data=$160.
If you're going to need more than 1400 minutes Share Everything is better.

What you are looking for is only available for iOS 5 and above.  You will need to connect your iPhone to a computer and update through iTunes as always.

  • Does Verizon have the capabilities to sync my Droid (first generation) with my new iPhone?

I just picked up my new iPhone,  and the gentlemen at Verizon told me that they are unable to sync the Droid girst generation with the iPhone. Is this the case? Another iPhone user seems to believe that it is alot of work and they are just unwilling to take the time... I hope this is not true!
    Thank you!

Some stores have the ability to sync phone number.  Not all of the corporate stores have the machines to do it. I suspect the resellers generally don't have the ability. The charging port on your phone must be fully functional or it won't work. Even if the charging port on your Droid works, transferring the numbers doesn't always work.
However, since you had a Droid, you had a Gmail account. Set up your Gmail as an Exchange account on you iPhone. That will probably bring all of your numbers over.
Paul's suggestion for transferring pictures and video are the simplest course of action.

  • How do I make use of a "Pay-As-You-Go" credit balance from a Verizon basic phone account??

I have replaced a Verizon basic phone with a Verizon smart phone. My basic phone is on a "Pay-As-You-Go" plan with over a $300.00 credit balance. Yet Verizon been unable to tell me how I can get some usage of this credit balance. If I stop my Auto-Pay, I will lose the whole credit balance. Does anyone knows of some way I can get some usage of this credit balance??

  • Are the LG Cosmos or LG Evn3 basic phones?

I can't seem to get a simple yes or no from Verizon. We had a small basic flip phone on our Share Everything Plan but it died. I want something simple but that is good for texting. I saw some cheap Env3 on ebay. I just wanted to know if it will still be at the $30 a month we pay now for the basic plan or is it not considered a basic phone?
I asked a Verizon rep and she said it would be more because it's considered a smart phone? But the Cosmos and the Intensity are basic phones right? I just want to make sure before I buy anything. I don't want to get anything that would be more than our $30 plan for a basic line.

Yes it will be 30$, and yes the EnV3 and the Cosmos 2 is only a basic phone, you will not have to pay more if you activate those phones with the Share Everything Plan.

  • Is there any text spy apps for these basic [phones

Is there any text spy apps for these basic phones

You can add family base to set limits and who the phone text's, however since it is a basic phone you don't have access to an app store to download applications.

  • Can I upgrade my basic phone plan to a smartphone plan, if I have my own smartphone(verizon compatible)?

Aloha, can I upgrade my basic phone plan to smartphone plan, if I have my own smartphone(verizon compatible) and not have to sign a 2 year contract or pay for "you did not buy the phone from us" extra fees?
    Thank you mo.

Yes, you can 'bring your own phone' and it shouldn't affect your current calling plan.  You'll need to add a data plan, though, if you're on a Nationwide calling plan, and you may need to adjust the data portion of your plan if you're on a More Everything plan.

  • Is Verizon attempting to get customers to abandon basic phone services for data plans?

I was just in the Verizon store to pay my bill and while there I wanted to verify my upgrade eligibility date.  My husband and I have a shared plan with him having a basic phone and I have a smart phone with a data plan.  Due to a need to upgrade phones last year I used his upgrade eligibility date to go from a basic phone to a mart phone.  At that time I was told that when the time that I was eligible to update my phone he would be able to use that date, which he did.  The next time we are eligible to update will be in Feb. but since we had switched the dates last year, I was told that if I wanted to update this year at his time, we would be charged an additional $30 per month for a data plan even though we would still have 1 basic phone and only 1 smart phone.  In essence we will be paying for 2 smart phones and have the benefit of only 1.  Does Verizon think that this is good customer service and that it will foster customer loyalty?

It is true that if you switch lines and upgrade with a smartphone, but then add a basic phone back on that line you will be charged $30 per month for data since you used that line to upgrade to a smartphone, and the data costs are part of the payback for the higher price of the smartphone.
However, that is not what you are doing, and I have not heard that if you use an upgrade to get a basic phone, you still have to pay $30 even if that is a transfer from an upgrade eligible line that has a smartphone.
I honestly think you were given wrong information and they misunderstood the new policy. This is one situation I have not seen yet, so will await others to give input, including any Verizon representatives.

  • Microsoft all ready has an update for Windows Phone 8.1 Verizon customers still don't have WP 8.1. UGH!

Microsoft has all ready released an update to Windows Phone 8.1. Us Verizon customers don't even have WP 8.1. *** Verizon?  My contract with Verizon is up in November this is the tipping point.  I am not going to renew my contract.  I will just buy the phone out right and sign up for Straight Talk.  Then I don't need to have the "Nanny service provider (Verizon)" telling me when I am able to obtain a device update.  Thanks for nothing Verizon.

On one side, I can understand that maybe (and that's a BIG maybe) Verizon wants to make sure they have enough data (pardon the pun) regarding the successful adaptation of the update for it's customers in order to make sure everything goes smoothly.  However, I find that Verizon likes to keep customers in the dark regarding time frames.  It's interesting to see on some of the similar titles message boards entries on this topic have Verizon monitors ready to wipe out entries if they violate terms of service on the forums.  But, when asked directly about time frames for Windows updates, you either get a link to some Verizon news page (which is of no help), or nothing at all.  A number of people called Verizon customer service and get varied answers like: "Sometime this summer", "Soon", or even an "I don't know, they don't even tell us either"...which is the answer I got one time.  Very discouraging.  I had a choice between the Windows Phone, or a Samsung Galaxy phone.  I chose Windows because of it's features.  Beginning to regret it now, since support for it on Verizon appears to be dismal at best.

Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking.  Contact the carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

  • Replace basic phone with No-Contract $399 Moto X, and have only WiFi data?

The family is on a Shared Talk and Text, 700 minutes, four basic phones and I have a Droid Razr + 30/month data plan, could I replace one or more of the basic phones with a no-contract Moto X and keep the plan? And let the kids hit the WiFi, but not have to pay for when they away from the house? Seems too good to be true.
Sorry for this being my first post, I sure hope I can book mark this so I can come back to it. Maybe the word zygote might help me find it later

It would be a replacement, not a new telephone number, if that makes things clearer. All the same, you are saying Verizon will insist on data, even though no-contract?
