Which button for a factory restore ?

Thanks.

Then select restore to factory condition from the left hand side menu.

I recently did a factory restore on my imac mountain lion, but when i try to download OS x again apple is not recognizing my id and password

So, what exactly did you do for a "factory restore"? Which method did you try?
Did you go to the app store > Purchases? Is it listed there?
Or, did you try using the recovery method (Command + R keys or Command + Option + R keys while restarting)? Are you able/unable to reach Apple's servers to download the OS?

  • Factory Restore Fails on my p6754y at same percentage of completion

I have tried the internal repair and it failed several times, After that, I tried the internal Facrory recovery several times with faiures as well.  I then used the Recovery Disks created by the system when I first started using it.  Are the repeated failures of both the internal and external recovery programs a sign that the Hard drive is the problem?  I can say that the factory recoveries attempted by the Recovery Disks failed at the same percentage.  I am not sure about the earlier attempts because I was not then tracking that information.
Also, if I replace the HD with a new one,  can I use the system generated factroy restore program.  Will this restore the 2 hidden directores, blocks or whatever the correct term is for the factory restore and system recovery areas as they existed when the DVD's were made by the system?

    Hi, John:
See if there is a hard drive diagnostics test in the BIOS. If there is, run that and see what it reports.
If you have to or decide to replace the hard drive, then you could try the recovery disks you made on that.
If they don't work, then you will need to purchase a set from HP by clicking on the link below and click on the link labeled Order Recovery Media.

Another thing you can try is to make your own plain W7 installation disk and use the W7 product key on your PC's case to activate the installation.
Here are the instructions and link to the W7 ISO downloads.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • X230 Factory Restore

    Hello All,
Ive been having a couple of problems with my x230 and i think it is time for a factory restore. Ive done a factory restore before with the media discs that lenovo had sent me . But for some reason when i try to do this (pressing f11 on boot up) it says "The product recovery function has been removed from this system". Does anyone know how to fix this? Please Help, Thanks

    Hi, axum202
Is your current OS fresh installed from the m$ image/media or Lenovo factory recovery one? What's the OS version?
Did you perform any actions with boot sector or partitions?
    Is Lenovo Rescue&Recovery application installed?
In any case you could rerform factory recovery after you change boot sequence in BIOS Seup menu - select the external USB DVD as a 1st boot drive. Also be sure boot mode is Legacy and not UEFI.

  • HT1339 I was looking for info on restoring an iPod Touch 4th Gen. But iTunes presents the same Restore button, which when pressed, offers to update, not restore, to iOS 6.0.1. Why?

I found this article when searching for info on restoring (to factory conditions) an iPod Touch 4th Generation. Now I thought this shipped with iOS 5.x (x unknown). But as mentioned too briefly in the header, when I click 'Restore' in iTunes, it offers not to restore, but to update. That is not what I want. I need to use this iPod Touch with Xcode 4.2 under Snow Leopard.
So the question is: what is really going on here and why? Is it really true that 4th G iPod Touches ship with 6.0.1 instead of 5.x? If not, how can I get it to really go back to the original? Why is iTunes failing to offer a restore when I press 'Restore'? If I guessed wrong about which of my several machines running iTunes (some under Windows7, one under Snow Leopard)I used when I upgraded to iOS 6.0.1, would that explain iTune's failure to offer a true Restore?

Restore will not replace an old iOS level. It will update the iOS level to the latest level. If you have to restore youre iPod that is what will happen. The iOS is not a part of a backup.

  • I had my Ipod nano 7Gen factory restored. Nano touch is working smooth without any song init but after i have any of the songs shifted from itune touch buttons get messed up. They don't work. Help me in over coming this issue

I had my Ipod nano 7th Gen factory restored. Nano touch works smooth without any song in-it but after i have any of the songs shifted from itunes, touch buttons get messed up. They don't work. Help me in over coming this issue.

    Hello Rohantm,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano (7th generation) touch screen.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described (you can skip the steps you have already tried):
Touch screen does not accept input
Clean the screen with a microfiber polishing cloth.
Do not wear gloves while using the touchscreen. Do not use the touchscreen with wet hands or immediately after applying hand lotion. Moisture affects touchscreen behavior in the same manner as it affects a trackpad.
If you have a protective plastic sheet or film on the touchscreen, try removing it, because it may be preventing the touchscreen from working properly.
The current application may be unresponsive; try resetting iPod by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home buttons simultaneously for a least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Sync with iTunes and restore the iPod.
    Issue not resolved
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.

  • Recovery Media created 5 factory restore discs as requested, however 6 were needed for my restore!

I clicked finish as there were no more discs requested when burning a set of 5 (as asked for by the HP Recovery Media software).
Now when I'm trying to do a factory restore, it asks for disc 6 which of course, I don't have.
As I re-formatted everything a little while back, I can't use F11(?) to restore anything back except by my discs. My notebook is a dv7t-4100 CTO. I live in Australia but a new set of recovery discs are only posted to USA & Canadian residents. Any ideas please?

Talk to online with HP about your problem, http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-006&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=321957&h_client=S-A-...
They would send you the Recovery discs (if your still in the warranty) in Australia.
I once has to order Recovery discs for my laptop, I contacted HP by chatting with them online, and they have send the discs.

  • I attached my perfectly functioning iPhone 4 to my computer to update and came back to an error message saying I have to do a factory restore which cause me to lose everything recent because I'm not even sure that the backup completed correctly

I left my iPhone attached to my computer to do an update and now I can't use the phone at all.  It was taking so long I left it, when I came back there was an erroe message saying that I need to do a factory restore on the phone.  It wasn functioning perfectly before I attached it to iTunes to do the update and now since I can't even be sure that the back up completed, I'm faced with losing a lot of stuff recently added to my phone.
I don't want to do a restore, I just want my phone back to how it was this afternoon before I connected it to iTunes.

If the screen shows a plug going to itunes, then you have no choice,  It's in recovery mode.  You'll be given the chance to restore from a backup either from itunes or icloud.
I assume when you got the message to update (was this for the ios or update some apps?), that was before the device when dead.  At any rate, doing a restore does not change the ios.

  • HT2731 My daughters iPad has just been factory restored from the apple shop, she was on my iTunes account with her email address but now she is the correct age for her own account. We have started up the iPad and with trying to create her own with her own

My daughters iPad has just been factory restored from the apple shop, she was using my iTunes account with her email. When trying to create her own iTunes as she is the correct age it has come up that her email is already being used. How do we  do this with he same email address

    Hello spooner68,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to create an Apple ID for your daughter.  Because her email address is associated with your Apple ID, you are receiving the message that the email address is in use.
To remedy this, you will have to first remove her email address from your account using steps 1-3 of the section titled "How to add an additional email address that is already associated with another Apple ID" in the article below and then attempt to create her Apple ID with her email address:
How to add an additional email address that is already associated with another Apple ID
If you have an email address that is already associated with another Apple ID, you may need to remove it from your other Apple ID before you can add it to your preferred Apple ID.
Sign in to My Apple ID with the Apple ID that has the email address already associated with it.
Find the email address that you want to move to your preferred Apple ID, then click Delete.
Click Save Changes, then click Sign Out at the top of the page.

Did you follow the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.
Also some microUSB leads don't seem to work - try another if you can. Disconnect superfluous USB device/hubs too if possible.

  • Where is the Restore button for iCloud?

I've safely backed up my iPad to the cloud but don't seem to be able to find the Restore button in case I have to do a restore.
    Grateful if someone can help.
    I'm using IOS5 on my iPad 2.

You have a very good question and this is something that I wondered about as well. There is no button in the settings to restore from iCloud. That would be too easy. So much of the stuff that you have to do on iDevices is sort of o"one thing leads to another" type logic. Bold type was copied from the user guide book from the iBooks Store.
You can use iCloud or iTunes to restore iPad from a backup.
Restore from an iCloud backup:  Reset iPad to erase all settings and information. Sign in to iCloud and choose Restore from a Backup in the Setup Assistant. See Reset.
Restore from an iTunes backup:  Connect iPad to the computer you normally sync with, select iPad in the iTunes window, and click Restore in the Summary pane.
When the iPad software is restored, you can either set it up as a new iPad, or restore your music, videos, app data, and other content from a backup.
For a company that claims that it "just works right out of the box" and "we don't want the user to have to think about how it works" a lot of the issues are really not very clear to me.
Bottom line, apparently you would have to Erase All Content and Settings on the device and then sign into iCloud and choose Restore. Where do you sign into iCloud??? Well if you have Googled this - apparently the "start up" screen appears on the iPad - just like the new ones now come out of the box - and that is where you sign.
Does that seem intuitive to you? If there is a button in iTunes and there are buttons for every other darn setting on the device - could one have not been put on the device for this???
Frankly I just don't get Apple reasoning sometimes. Maybe I'm too dumb for this stuff anymore.
