If your iMac has just the FireWire 800 connection, you will need the 9 pin to 4 pin cable.

If your iMac has the FireWire 400 connection, you will need the 6 pin to 4 pin cable.

  • Need an app that recognizes a Sony handy cam DCR-TRV19 to allow conversion to Mac OS 10.7.5

Until a recent upgrade to our Mac OS, we were able to convert our old minidv recordings to iMovie, now after our upgrade the computer is not even recognizing tha tthe camera is plugged into the machine with a 9-pin firewire cable. What had been an extremely easy process has become an extreme frustration, as I was only able to convert half of our videos before the change. Has anyone developed an app that will fix the glitch with the new OS?

This is a user forum not Apple. Have you contacted SONY to inquire about updates or compatibility?

  • I have a sony handy cam which states it is not compatiable with my macbook pro. need some help.

Hello, i have a sony handy cam and it states that it is not compatiable with my macbook pro to download videos or pictures. Any suggestions on how this can be done???

Hello, I also have a Sony Handycam; trying to download movies to the my Mac Book Pro 15" was very a very slow process but it is possible. Then I tried to download the movies into an external hard drive (my computer's memory got filled really fast) and from that just work from iMove but after searching through Sony's website I read it is necessary to acquire a transference cable to improve this process.

  • What I.Link wire is used to connect my Sony Handy Cam to my iMac Mountain Lion?

What I.Link wire is used to connect my Sony Handy Cam to my iMac Mountain Lion?

    Hi,
If I remember correctly it is some while since Sony used iLink (Firewire) which would mean it is Firewire 400.
This would be the smaller 6 pin at the camera end and a 400 9 pin one at the "computer" end.
However we would now be looking at needing a 400 to 800 adaptor/link cable for newer computers.

  • Sony Handy Cam

    Hi all,
I connect my Sony Handy Cam via USB but my Mac does not recognize it.
Is there something I need to do before or install before connecting?
    Thx in advance

I have USB stream but on that mode it does not work.
This is the e-mail I received from Sony:
Thank you for contacting Sony Support.
I'm sorry that your Sony Camcorder is not recognized by the Computer with Macintosh Operating System, while using the USB port. Based on the information available, your Camcorder does not support transferring videos to an Apple Macintosh Computer using the USB port. I suggest that you to use the i.LINK port to resolve the issue. I have provided a link* to transfer videos from a MiniDV Camcorder to an Apple Macintosh Computer:
NOTE: The Computer must have compatible video capture software installed, such as iMovie software and does not requires the supplied Software CD.
    http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C407548
*You may be asked to enable or allow the link to work.
    Thank you for understanding.
To end my misery I bought a firewire cable and so far so good.

How do I get my videos to upload from my sony handy cam when I get the message The following file could not be imported.  The file is in an unrecognized format. I am using a macbook pro version 10.9.3, I have 411 gb free space, it worked before I downloaded the latest update for iphoto.

You may be able to download and install the update from here: Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01
If I upgrade to Yosemite will I be forced to go to the new Photos program
No. After upgrading (and of course make a back up first) you will need to update iPhoto to v9.6.1 (you won't be able to do this prior to upgrading). Here's how:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Photos is v1 of a new app, as yes it's not as mature as iPhoto. It uses a different technology for working with external editors. That requires Adobe to write an extension to let it hook into the new app. Not done yet, neither has anyone else.
Going forward: iPhoto will run on OS 10.10., but there is no guarantee for subsequent versions of the OS. You might want to factor that into your anger term thinking.

  • Recognize and Read my Sony Handy Cam Video

Final Cut Express 4 will not recognize the video that I recorded on my Sony Handy Cam HDD (Model DCR-SR42). My Mac recognizes the camera, but the program will not load or recognize any of the video. It keeps saying videos contain unsupported media.
Is there a way that I can change the format of the videos to a format that is accepted and supported by the Final Cut Express 4 program? What formats are acceptable to Final Cut Express 4?
    Thanks,
    Zing

Oh it's been a long time since I tried it. It was very frustrating and once I found VisualHub I didn't have any reason to look back.
Not sure what you mean by finalize, considering it's a HDD camera.
As for the format, it didn't matter what I converted it to.
I will say this though, one workaround I found that worked is using iMovie 08 which could import from the camera but convered to MPEG4 quicktime. I don't know if that helps with this case or not.

  • HOW DO YOUDOWNLOAD TAPE SONY HANDY CAM TO IMOVIES.

HOW DO YOU DOWNLOAD TAPE SONY HANDY CAM TO IMOVIES. (Sony TRV 138, analog)

Basically you need to send the analog video through a device that convert it to the digital signal required for iMovie - this be another camcorder such as a "Digital-8" if you have or can find one.
Read this for a place to start: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26606
I did a brief search for a device that may convert your analog camcorder's output to digital and came up with this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Video-Capture-Device-10020840/dp/B0029U2YSA/
Read the reviews and decide for yourself. Good luck!

  • Importing video from sony handy-cam?

I have an older sony handy-cam, model DCR-HC20, that I wanted to transfer video from to my imac for editing/storage...also, I have a new project I am working on. So, the handy-cam has usb and fire-wire, but my imac doesnt recognize it when plugged into usb, and no fire-wire port on the imac...I looked at Sonys website to see if there was software for my setup, but it doesnt look like it. How do I get my old videos onto my imac to archive, and for future projects should I invest in a newer HD cam, more compatible? THanks, E-

    Hi
The version no: as iMovie is a bit confusing..
if your iMovie is not the lastest version(11 or 10.).
Is one from sort a. and the other from sort b.
iMovie HD6 - was version 6.x.x (and previous follow this) (one set of iMovie 1 to HD6)
iMovie'08 = version 7.0.x (a totally new product - Wrongly named as iMovie and should have version no: 1.0.x)
    iMovie'09 = V. 8.0.x
    iMovie'11 = V. 9.0.x
    iMovie'13 = V. 10.0.x
Just to make information clearer and easier to understand.
    Yours Bengt W
