Which Camera Raw functions are in Photoshop Elements?

At times I'll suggest something to do in ACR in conversations with other photographers.  Sometimes I get a response that they can't find what I referred to in ACR.  Usually turns out they are using Elements (PSE), which has a subset of ACR function.  I've been looking for a list of ACR functions in PSE -- searching Adobe forums and products so far without success.  I have tried to assemble such a list from what I have in ACR 6.3 and by reading the Adobe PSE9 help files (I don't have PSE).  Here's what I've assembled.  Anyone have any corrections or additions?  Thanks.
Adjustment tabs that are not in PSE: Tone curves, HSL Grayscale, Split toning, Lens corrections,  Effects (Grain, Post-crop vignetting), Presets, Snapshots
Detail Adjustment Tab - Noise Reduction: PSE has Luminance and Color;  PS adds Luminance detail and contrast, Color detail
Tools that are not in PSE:  Color sampler tool, Targeted adjustment tool, Spot removal, Local adjustments (Adjustment Brush and Graduated Filter)
Workflow options: PSE - depth only (8/16);  in PS: Color space (target color profile), Size, Resolution, Sharpen for...
Save Image button: PSE saves only as DNG file type; in PS: Save as jpeg, tiff, psd file types
Question on PSE White Balance Pull-down list: Does PSE offer only As Shot or Custom? (No auto, daylight, ... flash?)

Here are some screenshots of pse9 and camera raw 6.3

Hope they help.

  • Camera raw not working on photoshop elements 8

I have tried installing camera raw 6.2 for photoshop elements 8 so I can open RAW image files, I have done exactly as the instructions said and I still encounter the error of "cannot open ___ because it is the wrong type of file"

It needs 6.3, according to this: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

  • How do I install camera raw 8.8 to Photoshop Elements 12?

    Separate Plug-in installer doesn't work.
Will Adobe force me to buy Elements 13??

Adobe isn't going to "force" you to do anything. They provide the free DNG converter that will enable you to use DNG copies of your files with Photoshop Elements 12. If you "want" native support for the raw files from your camera, then you can "choose" whether or not you want to upgrade.

  • Missing Camera Raw Dialog Box in Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows.

    Hello,
I have Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows. This runs on a 32-bit Windows Vista VirtualBox virtual machine.
It has been running fine, but suddenly opening raw Nikon images no longer opens the Camera Raw Dialog box, but takes me straight into editing on Photoshop Elements.
I really like having the Camera Raw Dialog box open as I do most of my image processing using this before opening the resulting file in Elements.
Does anyone know how to get this box back, or to open it from within Elements?
I have tried opening the images from within Photoshop Elements using the "Open As..." mnu item from the File menu, and the selecting "Camera Raw" as the image type, but it still opens without the Camera Raw Dialog box.
    Thanks very much.

Check your screen resolution settings for vista.
I believe the screen resolution needs to be at least 1024 x 768 for the camera raw dialog to show in pse 8.
For example, if instead of running VirtualBox full screen, your running it in windowed or seamless mode and made the window smaller by dragging on the corner, that would automatically lessen the screen resolution in vista.

  • Adobe Camera Raw 7.2 for Photoshop Elements 10?

I have a new camera (Sony RX100) and it's RAW fies are not supported by Adobe until ACR 7.2.  My version of PSE 10 has ACR 6.7.
I spent the morning trying to figure out if I can install ACR 7.2 into PSE10.  What should happen is that I click on Help>Updates.  It does not work.
Is it unreasonable to expect it to work?  Is there any other way to do it?
    Thanks.

It is a free Adobe product.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5486
It converts an entire folder full of RAWs into Adobe DNGs that can be opened by any Adobe photo product.

  • Camera raw update fails in Photoshop Elements 9.0.3

    Hi.
Installing OEM software with a neu printer update camea raw fails. How do I fix it?

You will need to check with your hardware manufacturer but I don’t think pre-installed software can be updated. You could consider:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 10 or the forthcoming PSE11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original raw’s as backups and for use in the camera manufacturers software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.1
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.1
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Unable to find Camera raw  plug-in in new Elements 8 on a Mac

I have a Mac Snow Leopard and a Nikon D700 camera
In checking which version of camera raw is in my newly purchased {Photoshop Elements 8) I checked the plug-in folder.  Just in case I also checked Photoshop Elements 8 Pre-set and filter folders
    No camera raw plug-in.
Can some one assist - I must be missing something.

Even though you have LR2, i would update both pse8 and bridge to the
latest camera raw plugins to keep your workflow the same regardless
of the program used. (5.6 is the latest version)
If you want to check for the camera raw plugin in pse8, go to
    Help>About Plug-in>Camera Raw.
The actual camera raw plugins are not in the pse8 plugins folders,
    but in Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plugins.
As an added bonus on mac with pse8, you have access to full
camera raw in bridge, which has a few more processing options
than LR2 has. (Cmd+R to open a raw file in bridge using the full
    camera raw)

Since pse 9 can only use up to camera raw 6.5 and the d600 needs at least 7.3 and the d800 needs at least 6.7, you can use the
8.6 adobe dng converter to convert those files to dng copies, which then pse 9 should open.

  • Problems using Camera Raw function in Bridge CS5.1

Hey so I don't know what the heck is going on, but Camera Raw was working perfectly for me when I got this computer. It's a work computer, and all the programs were recently installed. I like using Camera Raw because of the easy basic editing and mass rendering (from .nef to .jpg) because I do a lot of shooting as a journalist.
Like I said, it was working fine for me the past three weeks. Now I get this error message:
Camera Raw editing is not enabled
Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
I just installed the program, alongside PSE 12 Editor, and I have no idea how to fix this. Obviously, I've opened both Bridge and PSE, so I have no idea what I'm supposed to do now.
Please please help. It's a MAJOR pain in the arse to have to edit every photo manually in PSE.

You can use PSE with multiple Raw files also but Camera Raw in PSE has very limited options compared to the full ACR and also you can't save as jpeg via PSE.
But do you have Photoshop CS5 installed because I can't find any info on that in your posts??
Bridge CS4 was the only version that worked with PS elements (PSE 8??) but after that they discontinued the connection and since then PSE again uses its own organizer. So it is either using PSE for your work or you have to use Photoshop and Bridge.
Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) is a plugin that comes with Photoshop. But Bridge has the option to also use this same plug in but it uses the PS version itself. If you open a Raw file in Bridge the normal way it opens in ACR via PS.
If you choose right mouse click menu 'Open in Camera Raw' it uses ACR via Bridge. You can use both ACR at the same time. e.g. open multiple files in Bridge to load them as 'filmstrip mode' in the ACR window. Make your changes and choose 'save image'. While this jobs is running you can't use PS until the saving has finished.
however if you return to Bridge and select another bunch and open this via 'Open in Camera Raw' the ACR window opens via Bridge. So while the first job is running in the background via PS you can start the second job via Bridge.
Be sure to have the latest updates and the latest ACR version for Camera Raw (in your case it should be both PS and Bridge CS5.1 and ACR 6.7)
In PS go to menu Photoshop / About Plug In / Camera Raw and this provides a window with the version of Camera Raw you are using.

  • Camera raw plug-in for Photoshop CS

Can I download a camera raw plug-in for Photoshop CS (just CS, the really old one) that is compatible with my Rebel T2i? I can find info on which plug-in I need but when I try to find it they are all for newer versions of photoshop.

    Hi,
What operating system are you using photoshop cs on?
Since photoshop cs (photoshop 8) can't be updated past camera raw 2.4, you would need to use the 8.3 dng converter to convert your files to
dng copies that photoshop cs can open.
You also need to ensure you have updated photoshop cs to camera raw 2.4, so you can open dng files in phpotoshop cs.
The following links are for windows versions:
    8.3 dng converter:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
    camera raw 2.4
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2701
If your using photoshop cs on mac os x, then the particular dng converter you would need differs, depending on what version of os x your using.

I recently purchased a Go pro Hero 4 Black which included a voucher for Adobe Photoshop Elements 12. Is elements 12 discontinued if so, will I be able to downloadAdobe Photoshop Elements 13?

    LAdyshopgirl
Premiere Elements 12 is no longer the current version of Premiere Elements. Premiere Elements 13 is. Probably Premiere Elements 12 is still in stock
at online vendors. Whether these online vendors accept "vouchers" is questionable.
You need to go by whatever the voucher says. It may be very specific for version 12 and be outdated at that. Is there an expiration date on the voucher.
Is there an installation disc included with the camera? If so, does it give a redemption code or serial number that you are supposed to use to install the
    program?
This is not Adobe. Rather a user to user forum.
My first impression is that you may have an outdated voucher. And, the details of that voucher need to be read carefully.
Please supply more information unless you opt to contact the seller of the camera for more details, especially if this "voucher" was a sales
incentive for the selling of the camera.

  • CS4: Easy way to switch to Camera Raw, then back to Photoshop?

Is there an easy way while editing an image in Photoshop, to "send" it to Camera Raw for quick edits (like Clarity, Temperature, etc.) and then back to Photoshop?
Right now I have to save my image, go to Bridge, then "open in Camera Raw" and then back to Photoshop.  I'm just wondering if there's a shortcut for this directly from Photoshop that's all.
    Thanks in advance.

I didn't ask for your opinion about a smooth workflow, just asked if there was that capability.  There's obviously a reason why I need to switch back and forth. I do a lot of unique manipulation, there are functions in Camera Raw that are 500% faster to do than in Photoshop, but there are custom filters I need to apply first. Sometimes that requires me to switch back and forth.  What's NOT a smooth workflow is having to save an image, closing it, opening it another Adobe program, saving it, then back in the first program.
In older versions of Photoshop you could easily switch back and forth from Photoshop to Imageready with ONE BUTTON CLICK. Just wondering if it's possible to do that with PS and Camera Raw, that's all.

  • PSE 6.0 Mac - Apple Power Mac G5, - Which Camera RAW?

I have a Apple Power Mac G5. Uses Power PC Processor. Not Intel. Also have PSE 6.0 for Mac installed.
So which Camera RAW do I load with this setup? Tried to load Camera RAW 5.6 to no avail.
    Thanks
    Bob  AZ

ACR 5.6 is compatible with PSE6.
You can install the update manually.
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge
    2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.dmg and follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop Elements or Adobe Bridge.

  • Converting to DNG - which Camera Raw compatiabilty and why?

When converting camera Raw files in Lightroom 2.5, a dialog box asks which Camera Raw/Photoshop version I want to make DNG file compatible with.   (See my screengrab below) I understand why Adobe made different vesions of Camera Raw and stopped supporting older versions (so users would buy the upgrades of Photoshop and Lightroom).  The question I ask.. Does a DNG file created to be compatible with Camera Raw 5.4 have superior qualities/algorithms/technical mumbo jumbo/ finese /or what not over a DNG file created to be compatible with Camera Raw 2.4 and later?
Seems sort of silly to not use the 2.4 setting if 5.4 has no advantage (other than keeping older versions of Photoshop and Lightroom from opening it ).
    What is the scoop?

Camera Raw does evolve over time. There are changes to the rendering algorithms. Additionally, new camera support is added with each new iteration of Camera Raw. The older versions are offered so that if you are still using older versions of Camera Raw and Photoshop you can generate compatible DNG files.
If you are using current versions then I suggest you choose the most current version in the dialog box. If you are still working under ACR 4.6 then choose that. It's there so you aren't "forced" to buy upgrades to PS and LR.
