Which camera

Question

i am start a photo biz  i like to shoot a lot of nature and scenic stuff   would like to know whats a good starter camera. have considered the kodak easy share z980. also would like to know about a starter slr

First thing I would forget about using P&S's for a photo biz. May as well get a good dslr to start with. Nikon D300 (a D200 will be fine also), Nikon D90 (minimum IMO for biz work strating out), Canon 40D, Canon 50D and possibly the new Canon Ti (never played with one yet and dont know anyone with one). Find one that you feel comfortable with.
Then you will need glass. Wide angle lenses for scenic panoramics like a 12-24, 10-20, 17-35, etc. Telephotos 300mm and out (if you want to wildlife and make it look like you're close to it). A 300mm (or more) for wildlife. Nikon has an AF-S 300mm F4 for $1300ish (can find used for a grand). Canon has similar lenses (usually slightly cheaper but still high quality). Kit lenses may get you started, but you will end up getting the higher end stuff when you feel you need better.
Reason I'm stating Nikon or Canon, those are the 2 best in the camera world. Alot more options and lenses are available for these two compared to Sony, Pentax and the other smaller ones. Plus its so much easier to find dealers for canon and nikon.
Its gonna cost some $$$ initially, but remember lenses are the most important part of the camera. Good glass will last a looooong time. Bodies change literally every year.
Check out forums like photography-on-the-net (canon based) and nikoncafe for ideas. dpreview.com has reviews of all new cameras and you can compare them side by side. Just avoid dpreviews forums, they tend to be rather abrasive.
