Which cisco operating systems/hw platforms use .PIE files?

when i search in cisco i only see references to .pies for in ios xr on large routers, is that correct?  if not what ios's use .pies?  do  the firewalls use .pies?
thanks.

Hi,
correct, PIE files are being used exclusively by IOS XR platforms - c12000, ASR9k and CRS1/3 -

    If you are trying to decide on a platform, I would recommend that you look at Swingbench and run your own benchmarks on various platforms using vendor "try and buy" options. Sun is great for allowing a 90 day "try and buy" where you could try a wide range of platforms and I am guessing other vendors would do the same. Using Swingbench I recently found that an older Sun X6220 (blade server) was for 50 Swingbench users faster than a T6340, T2000, M5000 and older V890. Single threaded SQL was especially slow on the SPARC/T while the M5000 was comparable to the X6220 (again for 50 users). This is significant because the M5000 is much more expensive than the X6220 (a blade server).
    For a small number of users, say 50 users and under, I like Solaris/x86 unless there will be lots of IO which is where SPARC and the M series scales up very well. 50+ users hammering on a DB, Solaris/SPARC is my first choice. If you are just getting started and are not in love with any platform, check out Oracle Unbreakable Linux.

  • How to execute operation system commands by using TSQL without enabling xp_cmdshell.

    Hi Experts
    Looking for advise if one can use operation system commands using TSQL without enabling xp_cmdshell.
    actually using xp_cmdshell requires sysadmin privs which I am unable to provide (directly or using proc) to a user  but the user needs some operating system commands to execute for file manipulation from sql server session. Please share your thought.
    Best Regards

    >but the user needs some operating system commands to execute for file manipulation from sql server session
    See article here
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2014/replace-xpcmdshell-command-line-use-with-sql-server-agent/:
    "Problem
    I need to run something from the command-line, but based on best practices xp_cmdshell has been disabled. The task that needs to run is an internal process that will originate from within SQL Server. Is there a way to do this without using xp_cmdshell?
    Solution
    The use of xp_cmdshell is generally frowned upon and is now recommended to be disabled, unless it is absolutely necessary.  There is a solution that works around this restriction via the use of SQL Server Agent.
    Wherever SQL Server is installed, SQL Server Agent is installed with it (except for SQL Express). SQL Server Agent has the ability to run job steps which invoke the command shell. And in the case that the job is owned by a member of the sysadmin fixed server
    role, the job will execute as the service account under which the SQL Server Agent is running. "

  • Which mac operating systems am I allowed to virtualize?

    which mac operating systems am I allowed to virtualize? I would like to create an exact replica of a client's setup. (Mac OS X Snow Leopard server) on my Mac for some tweaking.
    I am aware this is the Lion forum. Lion appears to be easier to virtualize, which is why I'm asking it here.
    Can I then deploy from a virtual machine to a production environment? Is VMWare or Parallels better for this?
    Thanks.
    --Sam

    My understanding is the only thing you maybe allowed to virtualize is a Server OS.
    With lion Server is more of an app so im not sure how that works into their licenseing.

    of course I was talking nonsense: the problem here is the mixing of bind variables and DEFINE variables.
    With the following changes the script should work (the conditions for begin_interval_time are perhaps not what you want):
    variable snap1 number
    variable snap2 number
    variable rptname varchar2(20)
    begin
    SELECT min(snap_id) into :snap1 FROM dba_hist_snapshot WHERE CAST(begin_interval_time AS DATE) >= SYSDATE-1;
    SELECT max(snap_id) into :snap2 FROM dba_hist_snapshot WHERE CAST(begin_interval_time AS DATE) >= SYSDATE-1;
    end;
    col file_name_value new_value report_name noprint
    select 'PROD_'|| to_char(sysdate,'MON') || '_' ||  to_char(sysdate,'DD') file_name_value  from dual;
    define  report_type  = 'html'
    define num_days=2
    define begin_snap=:snap1
    define end_snap=:snap2

    Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
    If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
    MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

    Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

    You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
    If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
    If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

  • What Operating system can I use.

    Hi,  I have a Power Book G4 - Tiger 10.4.11  (not Intel)
    What is the most up to date operating system I can get for my laptop?  And if so;
    will my iPhone 4S work on it?
    and the latest iTunes 10.5. ?
    Thank you
    Bernie

    The max OS for PowerPC Macs is Leopard 10.5.x. Also to use Apple iDevices you need Leopard & iTunes version 10.5.

    Bluegrassbarry you can download and install Illustrator CS6 from Download CS6 products.   Do you currently have a Creative Cloud Membership?  If not then I would recommend upgrading your operating system prior to subscribing.  You can find the system requirements for Creative Cloud at System requirements | Creative Cloud.

  • Which Windows operating system would be best?

    I've been big on PC/Mac gaming for quite a while. I've recently decided to become attached to Final Fantasy XI, but I have a few questions.
    First of all-- Which operating system would be best? This is my first time experimenting with Boot Camp, and from what I've heard it works wonders for FFXI. I'd love to know your opinions on how I could get my iMac up and running with Windows asap! :]
    Also-- With Boot Camp, do you have to start up your computer with 'just' Windows or 'just' Mac OS (As in, can I run the two operating systems at once)? There are some Mac programs I would need to run during game time, and its been a big blank as to if this will be possible.
    Thanks!

    I have run both XP and Vista premium. I have Vista now on my Mac Mini. It runs fine. Boot camp will allow you to chose between OS on which one boots by default. Or you can hold down the option key when booting and you will be promted to choose one. You must have Leopard in order to get Boot Camp. I assume you already know that. If you like gaming on Windows then go with XP.
    I think Vista about doubles what XP takes up on the Hard drive. So if your limited to space then XP is again the one. Good Luck!

    Why OS commands and not the PayloadZipModule?
    If you need OS commands check this blog of Michal /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2007/02/08/xipi-command-line-sample-functions

    You can try this command too
