Which codec for 1024 x 768 clips (mainly Photographs in two or more layers)

Hi!
I want to create a Rearprojection as a background for a theatre play. The footage is mainly high resolution photographs which I edited in photoshop. I want to use two or more layers with transparant areas (eg. a wall with windows and a moving landscape behind the wall. Through the windows you can see the landscape).
The projector works with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and therefore the videoclips should have the same resolution.
As the clips will be looped and are quite short (from 1 to max. 5 minutes) the size of the videofiles doesn´t have to be very small.
Which codec should I use to achieve good quality?

I will use either Final Cut Pro directly or a Video Player named Qlab.
The footage will be put on a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo which is connected with the video projector via a 5x BNC (RGBHV)-cable.

  • Best setting for 1024 x 768 output

    All-
I'm having a terrible time getting Premiere Pro to output my project at 1024 x 768.  Here's the scenerio.
I was given a Quicktime file that was exported from Camtasia at 1024 x 768.  When I import the quicktime file into Premiere Pro, the video settings are:
    VIDEO, 1024 X 768 (1.0)
    15 FPS
I've tried several attempts to export the file from PPro at 1024 x 768 but every attempt is blury.  Any ideas for correcting this problem?
    Cheers,

What codec was used to create the MOV file?
What sequence settings are you using?

  • The Most FCP-Friendly Codec for Offline Editing of Clips w/ Alpha Channels

Working with full-quality DigitalJuice animated backgrounds with alpha channels in a DV timeline can feel like swimming through molasses. There are a number of options for temporarily replacing the clips with low-res proxies (Uncompressed, JPEG2000, TGA, etc.). Before conducting extensive tests, I was curious as to whether or not anyone has an opinion on which 32-bit codec might be the easiest one for FCP to process, resulting in snappier playback while offlining.
    Thanks,
    Zap

no, at least not last time I looked.
the avid meridian codecs for QT are downloadable from their website

    sme tips quoted from http://dvinfo.net/conf/archive/index.php/t-78006.html
it is important to move these components out of the root Library and put them into the User Library. That way they won't cause any conflict during startup.
I've since done some trial and error testing and it appears the only component that causes a conflict during startup is AvidAVUICodec.component.
The rest work just fine with compressor and seem to add support for:
    Avid 1:1x (AvidAV1xCodec.component)
    Avid D100 (AvidAVd1Codec.component)
    Avid DNxHD (AvidAVdnCodec.component)
    Avid DV (AvidAVdvCodec.component)
    Avid Packed (AvidAVpkCodec.component)
    Avid Meridian (AvidAVDJCodec.component)
The original AvidAVUICodec.component was part of the Meridian codecs paired with AvidAVDJCodec.component for ABVB systems, but it doesn't seem to be required anymore. Very odd.
Now, what works with FCP 5.1.2????
Everything except Avid D100 codec (AvidAVd1Codec.component) and the AvidAVUICodec.component.
So, if want to use Avid codecs with FCP 5.1.2, just install them, trash AvidAVd1Codec.component and AvidAVUICodec.component, then move the remaining components from Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime to Users/User name/Library/Quicktime.

  • Which Codec for LEDs

I've run into a problem exporting some LED files. I have already exported a series for files ranging from 4160x64 to 1222x64 using the photo JPEG codec but my remaining files 17856x96 and 16480x96 won't render. All I get is a black screen. Which codec would need to use for these sizes, I have tried 12+ different codecs. My client is based in Australia and they are to be used at the MCG ground. I'm using AE CC 2014 on OS X 10.9.5. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    >> You may need to contact the technical wonk at the venue to find out what codecs their system prefers. <<
    Yeah, well.
You will first contact the people running the system or the people who made the system. You will ask them what codec they require. Then you will either ask them or ask us how to achieve that output.
But let's go back to this 17k-wide comp. You REALLY need a comp that size. Really? It's not just duplicated edge-to-edge? I've never heard of a sign system using that much space. They're always chunked out.

  • Encoding to 3GP-which codec for maximum distribution?

I'm encoding a 3GP clip and as I've done some research on the format I've discovered that there's variety of codecs to use (MPEG-4, H.263, H.264). I'm not having any problems encoding or playing them back (although H.263 doesn't give me good quality compared to the others). The problem is that there seems to be no schema as to what cell phone company uses what codec. It all depends on what model you have and who your carrier is and what network they're on.
    I'm not looking for a one-size-fits-ALL solution, more of a one-size-fits-MOST.
Any suggestions? What about 3G2 vs. 3GP?
    Thanks!

If the other editors are on FCP, I would think they'd be able to run the XDCAM HD footage just fine since FCP supports the codec.
I'm doing a video that was in HDCAM SR and imported with ProRes 422 (HQ). ProResHQ isn't as good as uncompressed HD, but it's still better than Blu-ray and uses manageable file sizes, relatively speaking.
Not sure what you have in terms of portable drive space, but my 45 minutes of ProResHQ footage took up about 50 gigs of space.
    Hope this helps.

  • Converting codecs for use with multi-clip

    Hi,
Not sure if I should post this here or in Compressor so please let me know!
I have recently completed a three camera shoot. Cam 1 and 2 were Sony pmw-EX1 cameras. Cam 3 was a Sony HD camera which used tape. The files I imported from Cam 1 and 2 are:
    25fps
    1410x1080
    XDCam HD 1080p25
    Pixel Ratio HD 1410x1080
Camera 3 is exactly the same except that the 'compressor' info is HDV 1080i50 instead of XDCam HD 1080p25.
Based on all of this, I cannot use Multiclip in FCP because the codecs don't match. So, I thought I would try and convert Camera 3 files using compressor. I found the XDCam compressor settings but it didn't work - the pixel aspect settings in that are still HDV 1080i50. I cannot seem to find a video codec which has the pixel aspect of cam 1 and cam 2. I assume this is relevant?
Do I need to customise my own settings in Compressor? Or is there another way to convert Cam 3 to the same codec as cam 1 and 2?
Hope all that makes sense....! Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks

  • Which codec for Alpha?

  • Which codec for HD

I would like to get an idea with what codecs to work and will appreciate your point of view.
My Panasonic HDC-TM350 records at its highest setting 1920x1080/50i MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 at 17Mbps VBR; this amounts to about 8GB/hr. Understandably preliminary work can be done with Apple ProRes422-Proxy. What to use for the final stages? As an amateur I do not aim for the very best but the results should not look too cheap. Will ProRes422-LT be more than sufficient for an acceptable display on a blu-ray player/hd-tv set? Or must I go with ProRes422? The higher codecs in general I expect to be an overkill, but I might be erring there. Thanks in advance.

Jim the project is short only 15 mins. and but I will have to use the two formats.
Just put up a new posting.
Have project with SD mini DV and HD 720 24P footage in same timeline. Want to conform HD to SD format.... followed all the rules, easy set up, DV NTSC, then opened new seq. but my HD footage is letter boxed and I can't just enlarge image to fit using motion graphics as this is dance footage.
I managed ONE time to get the 16.9 to fit perfectly to 4.3 scale, using modify or scale image settings and now cannot reproduce this!!!!! .
How did do I do it????
    [also re your suggestion on advanced conversion ... does that mean that the HD and SD will look different in the Timeline re letter boxing and will resolve in compressor????? }
This project will be shown on a cinema screen, that is the reason I want to use as much HD as I can, the SD looks...crap on the big screen.

  • Which codec do you use?

So I figured I asked the community and get a feel of which codec(for Quicktime) you use when rendering from Shake and why?
I'm trying to find a nice balance between quality and size for importing Quicktime movie into iMovie. It seems I can't get the right quality in iMovie but maybe it's because iMovie is messing with my original movie.
    Thx.

Sorry I wasn't as specific. I am using sequence TIFF images which are 720x480 or less depending as input and want to ultimately build something with iDVD. I have been using the 8-bit uncompressed codec to keep as much quality as possible but I was just curious what other people use when doing their work with Shake.
As for using iMovie, I could do everything in Shake including the audio sequences but it's so much easier to line up audio clips in iMovie. I may resort to this as iMovie keeps murdering my resolution. I just didn't feel like dropping $170 on FCE or even more on FCS which is why I was using iMovie to build my movie. Based on a lot of investigation earlier this year, I could do all the work I wanted in Shake without needing FCE and just output to iMovie 09. I'm just a hobbyist.
    Thx.

  • Desktop width - 1024 x 768 support  ?

Curious what settings people use to still get support for 1024 x 768 browser ?
I left my settings at the default and 1024 x 768 resolution visitors cannot view my site properly

    Hi there,
What issues are you facing with this resolution, are you viewing the content in a browser in 1024x768 desktop?
If you will have margins in the site properties or page properties then that will also add to the resolution, as 1024 is the page width and not browser's.
What exactly are viewers getting and what would you like to show them your page?

  • 1024 x 768 or 1024 x 748 for images to fill the page?

As I understand, there is 20px for wifi/time/battery bar...
Is that 20px always used up? Or is it available for image depending whether the user has his or her hand there?
I'm trying to figure out what size to make my images so they fill the page.
    Should it be 1024 x 768 or 1024 x 748 ?

it is always there in ibooks in landscape, when in portrait it is on the side (which is now the top) so the live area is 1004 x 768
I think all Apple apps have this bar and it is also there when on the home page (it is slightly transparent)
Not to be confused with the black title bar that pops up when going to the library, this is different.
I would go ahead and do 1024 x 768, incase you use the image full size in both portrait and landscape
Sort of depends on the layout of the book.
If you know you are not going to use the image full screen in portrait, then you could use the 1024 x 748
having the extra 20 px isn't a problem, it will just get cropped off.

  • Which codecs (e.g. for MP3 etc..) are installed and/or used by MediaSource 3 o

Which codecs (audio or video) are installed and used by MediaSource versions 3.30.2 and 5.0.38?Is that information provided in the MS application anywhere?I checked under Device Manager | Sound, video and game controllers | Audio Codecs (Video Codecs) ..but I don't see any?specifically from Creative e.g. like ctmp3.acm which some other people see. I see no codecs (either audio or video) with name? ct**.** in those codec lists. I see the MPEG Layer-3 Audio Codec Version .9(Build 305) .. but what application installed it ? WMP ?Is that the codec used by MS for MP3 encoding and playback?- Mitch?

    Yup.
Here is a way you could solve this by adding an extra column and a small lookup table:
The lookup table is here for the copying:
    0
    1
    k
    kilo
    2
    M
    mega
    3
    G
    giga
    4
    T
    tera
    5
    P
    peta
    6
    E
    exa
    7
    Z
    zetta
    8
    Y
    yotta
In table 8 (the one on the left in the image) column A is where the values are.
    B1=A1÷(1024^VLOOKUP(INT(LOG(A1, 1024)), Binary Prefixes::A:D, 1))&" "&VLOOKUP(INT(LOG(A1, 1024)), Binary Prefixes::A:D, 2)&"B"
this is shorthand for... select cell B1, then type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
    =A1÷(1024^VLOOKUP(INT(LOG(A1, 1024)), Binary Prefixes::A:D, 1))&" "&VLOOKUP(INT(LOG(A1, 1024)), Binary Prefixes::A:D, 2)&"B"
    select cell B1, copy,
now select all the cells in column B, paste

  • Should I be creating folios for the ipad at 1024 x 768 or 2048 x 1536?

    Hi,
    Should I be creating folios for the ipad at 1024 x 768 or 2048 x 1536?
    Thanks

The older iPad generation cannot display folios in 2048x1536, they are too large for the screen of the iPad and the iPad2. If you want to make sure all iPad users can see your content go for 1024x768.
If you have the resources to create several renditions of your folio, create a high-definition rendition to target specifically users with a Retina iPad. Have a look at this article: Creating DPS content for different iPad models.
