Which cover is better whether smart cover or smart case

which cover is better whether smart cover or smart case

It is really a choice to personal preference.
The Smart Cover provides some protection for the front of the device but no side/back protected. However, the Smart Cover is much more easier to use in my opinion and makes the device feel better.
The Smart Case provides all around protection for your iPad and is worth getting. It is not as tough as some of the crazy cases out their that like protect from 100ft drops lol.
So, just go to the Apple store and talk to a representative and he/she will help you out!

  • Smart Cover scratched my iPad Air screen

Has anyone else had the Smart Cover scratch their iPad Air screen?  I am very careful with my iPad, and the scratch was not there yesterday.  I use the Smart Cover.  It really is not a smart design to have the part of the cover that goes against the screen be the same part that sits on the desk or where ever the iPad is being placed.  I have tried flipping the cover the other way, but the magnet does not hold and it falls over any time I try touch the screen.  I use my iPad for work, so I have it sitting upright most of my day.  This is really frustrating.  While I have the Apple Care, I do not want to have to pay $100 to get the screen replaced.  It's a small scratch, but it's very visible, particularly when typing notes/documents/emails.  I overpaid to have an Apple-brand cover, just because I thought this would be the safest thing for my iPad.  I am thoroughly disappointed.  Now my $930 iPad is permanently damaged.

I have the smart case, basically the same as the cover, and have yet to experience a scratch in over three years of use.
I do not want to have to pay $100 to get the screen replaced.
If it bothers you, you don't have much choice. Isn't that part of the reason you bought Applecare+?

You did not overpay, you paid what Apple charged. No cover is going to protect 100% of the device. The scratch could have come from anything besides the cover. Any cover is better than no cover.
Now my $930 iPad is permanently damaged.
Uh, no. You can have the device replaced with a refurbished model. New case, battery and screen. To get the device replaced is only 10% of the cost of a new device. Use your Applecare+ for what it was intended. Otherwise you paid more for Applecare+ than you did for the cover yet complain about the price of the cover.

  • HT4101 Which is better Ipad smart cover or case

I am getting a new Ipad 3rd Gen 32GB and I wonder if it is a good thing to purchase either a smart cover or case?  Another question I have is it wise to get a wireless keyboard?

There is no one right answer -- it's like asking what kind of car you should buy.
The smart cover only convers the front.  The smart case has the front cover and adds covering for the back and sides.
Whether you should get a wireless keyboard depends on how much typing you do, as well as how easy or difficult it is for you to use the on-screen keyboard.

  • Which is better? iPad Smart Cover. Polyurethane or Leather?

    Same

  • Is there going to be a better cover than the smart cover for the ipad3 , the smart cover is crap!

My so called smart cover is useless, falls off doesn't stay supported up, all it does it put it to sleep. Is there a better cover coming for this?

Since Apple never released a "better" cover for the iPad2, I wouldn't count on it - but if Apple is planning releasing a new cover they haven't announced it, and nobody here can speculate (by terms of this forum) on what Apple might do.
That having been said, there are hundreds (thousands?) of covers available from other manufacturers, in a wide range of form and function, many of which work with the new iPad, and undoubtedly many more will be coming out soon now that the case manufacturers can tweak existing models to work with the 3rd generation. Do a search for "ipad covers" and see what you can find that meets your needs.

  • Does anyone has a problem with the screen of the new ipad? (there's a part of the screen which the color in it is "very" bright) and when I move the aluminium part of the smart cover when it's attached to the ipad the colors change!! Help!!!

I'd take it into my local APple store and have them look at it. There may be something wrong inside your device.

  • I have a smart cover for my iPad which works brilliantly, but I don't know how to clean it ?

I have a smart cover for my iPad which works brilliantly, but I don't know how to clean it ? I was very naive in choosing the "cream" colored one and now it doesn't look so neat ... Any ideas ?

Please disregard my question - just found the answer elsewhere on this page :-)

  • Any better cases than the "smart" cover?

I just got a new iPad 2. I really like the iPad 2, but really dislike the "smart" cover, and I'm sorry I got that.
It's definitely connected correctly, but has already fallen off half a dozen times on the very first day.
Neither the small tilt for typing nor the tall angle for viewing positions are particularly stable, and they are hard to set.
It doesn't handle well when open and using.
I just don't feel confident or "protected" using it.
I liked my old iPad 1 Apple black case. It was very functional. Anybody know of something similar for the iPad 2 with appropriate cutouts?
I can't believe this idea made it off the drawing boards.
Anyway, any suggestions for something similar to the iPad 1 Apple black case would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    doug

Try this, it's design is pretty similar to the original iPad case. (Which I quite like too)

  • Which smart cover for the tablet?

    Hi,
I'd like to get a kind of iPad's smart cover for my soon-to-be-delivered Tablet Z.
I don't want such an heavy leather stuff. Only the lighest and thinest as possible screen protection.
    Any pointer?
    Thanks.
    Laurent.

Google "G-Hub Xperia tablet" - they have a case on Amazon for UKP 9.99. It fits the XZ tablet well, has all the correct cutouts so sensors are not covered and all flaps can be opened, has a magnet in it to switch off/on the tablet, and has already saved my tablet from a fall onto tarmac. It also incorporates a stand with two positions, and even has a (cheap) free stylus /pen thrown in. For this price you really can't go wrong. (I have no affiiation with the company, but have been using it from day one with my XZ tablet).
What I am really waiting for is a bluetooth keyboard cover - Sony originally showed this on an early showing of the tablet at an exhibition, but there has been no subsequent sighting of it, and also I fear the cost given the excessive cost of the Sony leather cover currently available.

  • How do I turn off the time?  The lock screen appears each time I open the smart cover.

No matter which app I'm in, when I open the smart cover, the lock screen with the time shows.  This is on an iPad Air
On my iPad Mini, it goes right to the app and skips the lock screen.
It's sure nicer not to be reminded what time it is in the middle of the night--and not have the brighter lock screen flashed!

Appreciate the reply.  The settings are identical, so that's not it!  I do not use the pass code lock, in any event.  The behavior I'm describing is, in fact, turns out to be unrelated to the lock settings!
It depends upon whether an alert has occurred after the last time you closed the cover!  In iOS 7, that will show the lock/unlock screen with the alert when you next open the cover.  In iOS 6, more properly, it will show the alert over the screen you were last looking at--no lock screen at all.
On our iPad Mini, iOS 6, we do not use the calendar, so no alerts, and we never see the lock screen or its glaring time (count me among those who would rather not know it's 3am when I decide to read in the middle of the night!)   On the Air, we return to where we left off if there hasn't been an alert--but to the lock screen if there has been one!
Truly wish that Apple would give us options as to displaying the time or not--on the lock screen and on the status bar!

  • IPad 2 - Smart Cover =Polyurethane vs. Leather

Finally, got my White iPad 2 last week, the thing is all smart covers were sold out at that time, however they're back in stock now. So i was trying to figure out which is one better, in terms of durability, quality. Also which color goes best with the white ipad.
    - Thanks guys.

HI, I PURCHASED THE IPAD 2 ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, AND OF COURSE THE PINK SMART COVER.
I  LOOOVVVEEE IT! THE COLOR IS "VERY COOL" (LIKE STEVE WOULD HAVE SAID)!
SO FAR IT HASN'T GOT DIRTY AND IT HASN'T BLEED EITHER.  I TAKE IT EVERYWHERE AND MY FOUR KIDS PLAY WITH IT CONSTANTLY.  I ALSO HAVE THE ORIGINAL IPAD WITH THE APPLE COVER THAT CAME FOR THAT MODEL.  THAT COVER STAINED THE INVISIBLE SHIELD SCREEN SKIN.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MOTIVATED ME TO BUY THE SECOND EDITION IPAD WAS THE VERSATILITY OF MANY COLOR COVERS.  MY PLAN IS TO BUY TWO OR THREE MORE.  EACH TIME I SEE AN IPAD 2 WITH DIFFERENT COVERS, SEEMS THAT IS A NEW ONE.

  • Smart Cover hinges rubbing metal residue off on iPad 2

Anyone seeing a problem with there Smart Cover rubbing against the iPad and leaving metal residue?
I have two Smart Covers and both exhibit a small wearing of the metal on the Smart Cover approximately where the two hinges meet the connecting rod that runs between them. It shows as slight dullness on the hinges. On the iPad you can see marks where those points rest against the metal of the iPad. So far, the metal "smudges wipe off the iPad but the finish on the hinges is permanently dulled.
Looking closely as the cover folds back I notice that those two points are closer to the surface of the ipad than the rest of the hinge.
    Thanks,
    West

All it really is is where metal is rubbing in the hinge itself and it is making a very fine metal powder which may air oxidize.  Look at the hinges on any door of your house and you will see the same thing.  The reason it is on the back of the iPad is that the magnets attract the metal powder.  It is not a defect with the iPad at all.  Other than wearing down the hinge component over time this would be normal as well.  If the hinge pin had used aluminum or something with less carbon content you would not see it at all.  The smart cover is great but the hinge does need a redesign.  I have actually done a couple of redesigns that works well.  I may publish them on instructables some time.  Expensive hobby though ;). I have reverse engineered three case/cover types.  That is what I always liked about Steve... Take something someone did not do well and make it better but make it your own!

  • Smart Cover for iPad Air does not stay closed

The iPad Air Smart Cover is a different design to the previous versions of the Smart Cover, it has no metal spine on the left side and the magnets do not appear to be as strong as the previous versions. Presumably Apple has done this to reduce the production cost, and increase profits.
The result of this is that if one holds the iPad with the spine of the cover in the left had and the thumb on the first section of the cover and then tips the iPad over to the left the cover opens when the iPad is tipped past the vertical, towards the left side. This is made worse  when the iPad is fitted with a third party back protector case which fits over the front edge slightly.
This problem did not exist with the earlier iPads and their Smart Covers. We have an iPad 2 and iPad 3 both fitted out with Smart Covers and third party back covers. Both of these can be tipped over completely, upside-down, while holding them (in the manner described above) and they do not open.
We tried our new iPad Air Smart cover on other iPad Airs at the store (not Apple) and we also tried other Smart Covers on our iPad Air. They all had the same problem.
The only fix will be if Apple recognise the problem and improve the design of the Smart Cover
NOTE: We also tried the Smart Case and this had the same problem.
So, my questin is to Apple: When will I be able to exchange the Smart Cover for an updated version that does not have this problem?

I also have an iPad Air, and a genuine Apple Air Smart Cover. Cover stuck fine in the closed position (even if upside down) for several months. Cover also stuck to the right hand back of the iPad Air when open and folded back, even if upside down.
About a week ago, the right hand edge of the cover started being slightly repelled from the right hand edge iPad Air when closed. This left the iPad at risk of not actuating the on off switch, or at least being very sensitive to any movement.
The cover still stuck to the back of the iPad Air when open and folded back.
I believe Apple have magnets in the right hand edge of the cover, not just a passive strip of iron. If so, the polarity between back and front of the cover will be opposite. I believe Apple are somehow arranging the magnets in the right hand side of the iPad Air to change position depending on whether the cover is closed on the front, or open and folded to the back. I suspect Apple somehow allow the magnets in the iPad Air to pivot or move to provide a decent attraction both front and back regardless of cover polarity.
When I get hold of some magnetic viewing film I will check the magnet locations further.
My iPad Air went back to attracting the cover to both front and back a day or so ago. I had made no alterations. This correction happened after leaving the cover closed (and hovering mid air by a milimetre or two) overnight.
I believe the problem is in the iPad Air, not in the Smart Cover.

  • Some bugs on lock screen with smart cover

On iOS 6 when you flip smart cover iPad automatically prompts you for password and you can see time on the center of the status bar. On first iOS 7 releases you cant see time in such scenario. But after 7.0.3 update I have found that when iPad prompts for password you can slide a little and time suddenly appears, every time you do this time is blinking like it getting bold. And when you finally unlock screen font and icons in status bar is getting a little bit smaller. With all of this iOS 7.0.3 looks like it is still beta.

    Hello Rond27,
You can adjust whether your smart cover will lock and unlock your device at the following location.
Set your iPad Smart Cover or iPad Smart Case to lock and unlock iPad. Go to Settings > General, then turn on Lock/Unlock.
