Which Doc Contains Standard Edition's Replication Features?

Hi all,
I am going to use Oracle 10g / Oracle 11g Standard Edition's replication features (single-master, simple replication). However, in the online documentation web site, I cannot find relevant manuals / chapters.
There are manuals on advanced replication or Streams, but these are not what I am looking for.
I also searched the web on the above information, and some tutorial or step-by-step instruction (without using Oracle Enterprise Manager) but have found nothing so far.
Please advise where I may find such info. Thanks in advance!
Best regards

Hi Forstmann and all,
Thank you for your information.
I believe manual standby database may not be applicable to my situation because the reporting database needs to be refreshed several times a day during office hours to keep the data not too far behind production, while the reporting access may be continuous during office hours. The manual standby solution needs to bring down the standby database and causes interruption to the reporting workload.
I guess Oracle is "encouraging" people to use Enterprise Edition because back in Oracle 8's documentation, there is a dedicated book called "Oracle Replication" which contains information for both basic and advanced replication. There is also a whole chapter (Chapter 2) on basic replication.
In Oracle 9i Release 1, the chapter on basic replication is gone. In Oracle 10g Release 2, the book "Oracle Replication" is gone, and is apparently replaced by "Advanced Replication". So, for Standard Edition users, how do they know what replication documentation is relevant to them? Should Standard Edition users refer to Oracle 8's documentation? This is the key of my question.
Thanks and regards,
Lawrence

  • Streams in standard edition

    Dear all,
11.2.2 standard edition rac on solaris 10. We have a remote site which has a standard edition rac . Now, there is a requirement to replicate the data.
We are planning to implement oracle streams .
    1) Is oracle streams free with standard edition
    2) can the complete functionality of streams can be achieved in standard edition
    3) can we replicate the complete database using streams or only certian objects ?
    Please guide

  • 8 vcpu for Windows 2008 Standard Edition Guest

    Hi,
Due to a software requirement, I'm investigating the possibility of creating an 8 vcpu Windows 2008 Standard Edition 64-bit guest.
In Vsphere, its possible to create an 8 vcpu windows 2008 Standard Edition guest by configuring the "cpuid.coresPerSocket" parameter to 2, which allows the Standard Edition windows license to see 8 cores without violating the standard licensing which caps it at 4 processors.
Is there a similar functionality in Oracle VM Server?
    Thanks.

    Hi Simon,
Read that link you sent and I believe it allows us to play around with cpu cores in Windows Standard Editions in virtual environments.
"Software run in a virtual OSE is licensed based on the number of virtual processors used by that virtual OSE. If the physical processors in the server have two cores, each virtual processor also has two cores from a licensing perspective."
So its up to us to configure the cores as it defaults to single core for each vcpu.
I've tested in vsphere using 4 vcpus and setting it for 2 cores each. The OS sees only 2 processors but I've got 4 threads in task manager. If I revert to 4 single core vcpus, the OS sees 4 processors.
I'm trying to see if I can do the same in Oracle VM and am trying to understand the cpuid setting in the vm.cfg. The examples given in xmexample.hvm-stubdom are for Intel 8 core and AMD 5 core but all I have is AMD dual core.
So trying to figure out how to set it correctly in my situation. Haven't found any detailed documentation for configuring those ebx, ecx, edx settings.

  • Implementing replication in Oracle 10&11 Standard Edition

I am implementing an oracle based application which will run under Linux/Oracle 10gr2 standard edition and which will soon be upgraded to Oracle 11g standard edition.
One of the requirements of the application is that a hot standby must be provided. To provide the hot standby, I must implement some sort of replication mechanism, but the nice replication features (data guard, streams, advanced replication, basic replication) are only available with Oracle enterprise edition.
    Two questions:
    1. It appears that I will be building a home-made replication mechanisms. I am planning on using insert/update/delete triggers and dblinks to trap database updates and propogate them to the standby server. (alternatively, may write them to files as SQL statements and have the second server load the files). Is their a better way to implement replication in Oracle SE. (esp. a feature of Oracle SE that I could be using to do this?).
    2. Oracle Advanced and Basic Replication are not shown in the Oracle 11 Editions Description web page which lists the availability of features across the various oracle versions. I assume it is still supported in Oracle 11, but is Oracle Streams now the "best practice" for implementing replication (i.e. instead of advanced replication?)
    Thanks in advance,
    Werner

    1) Having database triggers that use a database link is an exceptionally poor way of implementing a hot standby. If the database link goes down, or if the remote database is unavailable, the trigger will generate an exception and the parent transaction will be rolled back. Which means that the system is available only if both databases are available and the network between them is available, which is exactly the opposite of what a hot standby would be expected to provide.
    2) You most likely want to set up a manual DataGuard-like setup. Clone the database from one machine to another, keep the standby database in managed recovery mode, and copy archived log files from the primary to the standby periodically. You'll have to script that, of course, but that shouldn't be insurmountable.
    3) Basic replication (one-way materialized views) are available in the standard edition, but probably aren't the sort of thing you'd want to use to build a hot standby.

  • Replication Management tool in Oracle Db10g Standard Edition....

    Hi,
Where is the Replication management tool can be found in Oracle OEM10g Standard Edition...????
Is this contained only to EM java version.... in Oracle client...????
However , i have a doubt that the EM java version gives the capability for advanced replication.... whereas the standard edition supports only basic replication...Is that correct....???
If the above is true then... how to create an environment which gives the privileged user to select tables , columns to be replicated manually or using the scheduler...????
    Thanks.. a lot

  • Docs to go standard edition

    Hi,
I want to open a new document on my 8900, except that it keeps asking me whether I want to buy or try out the premium edition. Is there anyway I can bypass that and open new documents with the standard edition?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Standard edition of DocumentsToGo does not allow creation of new documents. That feature comes with the Premium edtion.
The workaround is to email yourself a blank document, name it something such as "blank.doc" and save that to your BB. Then, for any new document, open that blank.doc, edit and SAVE AS, always keeping the blank.doc intact as a template.

  • Unable to add replication feature in sql server 2012 web edition

    Hi All,
We are using SQL Server 2012, Web edition and when it was installed replication is not an added feature so I tried to add this feature but getting below error.
Error: There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer.
Description: The version of SQL Server instance MSSQLSERVER does not match the version expected by the SQL Server update. The installed SQL Server product version is 11.1.3000.0, and the expected SQL Server version is 11.0.2100.60
And also please let me know how to identify the default file location of the setup file 'setup.exe' for SQL Server 2012 (Webedition, 64bit) Grateful to your time and support.
I'm using "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2777772\QFE\setup.exe" to add replication feature, please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thank You.

    ----Learners Curiosity Never Ends----

It looks like you are trying to add Replication Components, however, you are using the Cumulative update package 5 setup, which is wrong.
Note that you will not find the setup file for SQL Server on your file system, it will be on your installation media.
To install SQL Server Replication Components, locate your installation media and run Setup.exe.  Select the add features to an existing instance option, select your instance, and add replication components.

  • Only SOME Streams Features Available in Standard Edition?

    hi everyone,
I have some installations using 10g Standard and 1 installation that is 10g Enterprise edition.
I found this quote in another post: "Oracle Streams Message queuing and apply features of Oracle Streams are available in Standard Edition and Standard Edition One, but change capture is available only in Enterprise Edition. "
I have a couple of questions about which edition can do what.
    1. If I want to use Streams to replicate data to my alternate/failover server, can I do that with the Standard Edition or only with Enterprise Ed?
    2. With Standard Edition, how could Streams be used - what are some good uses - alert notification?, message queueing ?
    Thanks very much. John

    Thanks for the compliments!
With Streams you can also transform the data. For example, we use it to load our data warehouse. Now if you start transforming the data (using dml handlers or custom rule base transformations) the performance degrades.
You can use streams for several purposes: auditing/upgrades/etc, anything that can be done with transaction data captured at a source database. You can get very creative with all the available options offered by streams.
I encourage you to read the manuals. I know they are big but it is an amazing technology in my opinion.
    Cheers

  • SharePoint 2013 Enterprise and SQL Server 2012 Standard edition vs. Enterprise - feature question

I can't seem to find any clear answers to the implications of installing SQL Server 2012 standard edition vs. enterprise in regards to SharePoint 2013.
I understand that to get many of the features you need Enterprise edition of SQL 2012; but, what I can't figure out is if the backend SharePoint SQL 2012 is standard; but, the PowerPivot/SSRS server is Enterprise will we still get the features?
If we have 3 tier SharePoint farm, one of those tiers is for the SQL Server database backend.  If that SQL instance is 2012 standard and we add another server to the farm w/ SQL 2012 Enterprise to handle the tabular models, PowerPivot, and SSRS in integrated
mode will we still get the features?
Or, can we (should we) install Enterprise 2012 as the SharePoint database backend and let that instance triple down as also the PowerPivot and SSRS instance?
    The Degenerate Dimension

    Hi MMilligan,
SQL Server 2012 Standard is not supported PowePivot for SharePoint . In addition, SQL Server 2012 Standard is also not support some Reporting Services Features.

  • Oracle Standard Edition and GoldenGate for replication?

    The Question:
Can GoldenGate run in a Standard Edition RAC ==> Enterprise Edition standalone environment and perform the required rule-based replication without requiring an upgrade of our RAC Standard Edition to RAC Enterprise Edition?
    The environment:
Source System: 2-node RAC running Standard Edition 10.2.0.5 (RHEL5 x86-64)
    Target System: 1-node running Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.1 (RHEL5 x86-64)
    The requirement:
Lossless one-way replication in "real time" of selected schema while excluding selected DDL/DML based on multiple rules.
    Present solution:
LogMiner, but there is a known LogMiner bug (p8977287) that causes data loss when one RAC node goes down or is evicted from the cluster. The bug is reportedly patched in 11.2.0.2 and is slated to be fixed in 12.x.
    Thx.

Yes. Simple enough, it can extract from SE, even XE!

  • What replication methods are available in Oracle 10g Standard Edition?

    Hi All,
Our customer wants to have two identical servers at two different sites (Virginia and Utah). Server in Virginia will be the primary and the other one will be Standby. Application will run on the primary database and they would like to be able to use the Utah server (standby) in the event of a failure. The switch over can be manual or automated and does not have to be instantaneous.
I know these things can be in Enterprise Edition, but the cost is an issue here, so I was wondering what other methods are available to achieve this goal with Standard Edition database running on Windows Server 2008?
    Thank you,
    Sinan

    Spajdy,
According to the Data Guard documentation:
    Getting Started with Data Guard
"Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle Database Standard Edition."
Unfortunately, the cost is a concern. I would love to be able to use just the Enterprise Edition and Golden Gate or Data Guard, but it is not possible, so my manager says I have to do what I have to do with the Standard Edition.
    Thanks,
    Sinan

I have GRID setup of 11gR1 and DB is 11gR2 Enterprise edition on Linux 64 bit
I want to know, Can we install agent on Target server? But target server DB has STD edition of 10g.Yes, you can have a Target server DB in 10g Standard Edition.
However, the Repository of the Grid Control should be necessary in Enterprise Edition.
NB: The Repository is a technical database. So you don't have to pay additional fees for it.
