I have a HPG70=463CL with Windows 7 on it and I believe it is 64-bit. I want to purchase a docking station but don't know which one is compatible with mine so I can hook it up with my monitor and keyboard.

If you are using Final Cut Express, then look for camcorders that are AVCHD camcorders. Look especially for the AVCHD logo and specific mention of AVCHD in the specs. Most of the major manufacturers produce good quality camdcorders - Canon, Sony, etc.
Also, be aware that there are a lot of "not quite AVCHD" camcorders on the market (sometimes they say they record video as MPEG4-H.264/AVC) - buyer beware!
Most everything you are going to find on the market today is HD, which stands for "high-def".
Regarding your question about the Panasonic camcorder, it's best if you post that as a separate question, and please identify the specific model camcorder and the Easy Setup you are using in FCE.

HP Docking Station EN488AA - part number for power adapter

Hi,
I have a HP Compaq nx8220 notebook, with a HP Docking Station (EN488AA).
Unfortunately I have lost the power supply for the docking station.
I still have the power supply for the notebook itself (393955-001) but it does not plug in to the docking station. It is the correct voltage but only 90W instead of 120W, and the connector is the wrong size.
I've been looking online for the part number for the correct replacement power supply for the dock, but became very confused when I found sites advertising the same replacement part for both the nx8220 and the EN488AA when clearly they are different because the plugs don't match. None specify the plug size so I don't know which is which.
Can anyone help me identify the correct replacement part? Or better still, is there a plug adapter available so I can use my existing power supply for the dock too?
Attached are two photos - the plug from the power adapter next to the inlet of the notebook (fits) and the dock (doesn't fit).

The pin in picture looks liek a 5mm pin and one one on docking station is a smart pin. So you would need something like the one in picture in this link.
In the picture observe the component in left hand bottom corner.

That's correct, that's exactly what the chargers do - change the 110 or 220volts mains to the iPod Touch voltage. The reason it states 100V - 240V AC is that it will accept 115V AC found in the USA and the 220-240V AC found in Europe in the household mains socket. So if you take the Docking Station back to your home country, it will automatically use the lower voltage input from your mains sockets.
In the +old days+ electronic devices either accepted one _or the other_ voltage or it would have a switch that the owner had to change to suit the country they were in. The first option made it impossible to take something to a different voltage country and the second option (owner switch) made for lots of "Ka-booms" as seen on Road Runner cartoons when set for 110V but plugged into 240V!

Looking at the specifications for your modle, I noticed that it's USB ports are 3.0. The docking station that you got is 2.0. That alone could be what's caused the issue. On that note I've located a sales page with several listed on it, and some 3.0's are on that page. As far as my recommendation, you want one that is 3.0 compatible for your computer, beyond that as I'm not familiar with docking stations and do not handle sales you may want to call support, or the number on the websites page.

This all depends on what you are looking for ina docking solution. If you want to keep desk space availbe then I would say go for the on end solution such as Byte-dock or Hengedock. However if you want to run multipule screens as in the macbook screen and the external monitor this will not be possible with an on end dock as the macbook will have to remain closed. So you only option would be a bookendz dock that I can see.
I have read a bit about these Byte-docks but I cannot pass judgement yet as they are not out for a little while yet (according to the website).
Henge on the other hand have been around for a while now. I think at least 18 months, and I have some good and some bad points about them. Good point generally go on cost and easy of use. However I also read that the plastic in the bottom of the dock (while the plugs come through) snaps causing loose connections and because of this poor video output etc to occur, and while they advertise that the dock is cheap by the time you add everything else on like the cables, delivery, construction time it all adds up to a headache, and works out around the $200 mark.
Bookendz have been around for years and are still going strong that should tell you something, but it all comes down to you and what you define your requirements as.

It is a very simple task to upgrade the unit to an dual SSD system, and memory upgrade is very easy. You undo one screw on the bottom and (below) this is what you see. Two disk drive carriers with my SSD's installed and two 8 GB SODIMM add on RAM modules
Those benchmarks have very little to do with editing with Premiere, there is only one real comperhensive Premiere benchmark it is our PPBM.

Which version of Windows to Buy for fresh install?

I have a simple question that after 3 days of searching am still unable to answer. I apologize if this has been asked and answered many times before but have searched the communities and not found anything recent.
My question is this:
I have a MacBook Pro with an optical drive (mid 2010) that has never had Windows on it. I am running Mavericks and would like to use Bootcamp and install a brand new version of Windows 8.1.
What Microsoft product do I need to buy to accomplish this? It is my understanding that I need the DVD and cannot just download a full, clean install of this version of Windows but the choices are ridiculously complicated and confusing. Half of them say "this version for Windows 7 users, blah blah...". All I want to do is take a Mac that has no previous verison of Windows of any kind and have it up and running 8.1, you would think this would be simple but I have found it ridiculously difficult to find the answer, including asking those brainiacs at Microsoft help, which was about as useful as sharp stick in the eye. Obviously this is why I have a Mac in the first place, unfortunately need Windows to run some software that will not work on OSX.
Will the Windows 8.1 Pro DVD give me a brand new, complete install of Windows on my Mac via bootcamp?

I did buy the Windows 8.1 System Builder, which also is known as "Full Version".
After downloading and installing a 14 day trial of "Parallels", the Windows 8.1 Full Version disk seemed to install perfectly well. I installed the one windows program I needed to run.
It does seem glitchy sometimes, and processing is often slow, having to wait for it to process. I have 4GB of memory and may try to increase it to 6GB or 8GB.
I also don't like screwing with the iMac and with sales this weekend a perfectly functioning new Toshiba laptop can be had for $299 at Best Buy, including 6GB RAM and a fully loaded DVD/CD drive. I am seriously considering buying that just to run my one Windows program that I must run, and try to remove all vestiges of Parallels and Windows from my iMac. It seems just as cost effective, even moreso as it keeps them segregated, and doesn't add on third party systems to the iMac.

Which Mac Mini should I buy for use with a 65 inch Panasonic GT30?

Im very interested in surfing the web from the comfort of my Lay Z boy. I have a 65inch Panasonic GT30 tv along with an Onkyo TXNR609 av receiver that handles everything (DirecTV, PS3, X360, Wii, Apple TV). My only concern is the lag issue in dealing with the big display. Should I buy the base modle with the slower processor and upgrade the RAM? Or should I buy the i7 and rock out that way? I can afford either but would like to spend the least considering this isnt going to be the main computer in my house. Thanks for any advice!!

If you ever (*ever*) want to fire up a serious 3D game (one with a 2010+ appetite for GPU power), go for the midrange model with the real videocard. If you only want to browse the web, maybe do some flash, things like that, the low end model has enough videocard for that. That Mini has the same Intel HD Graphics 3000 as my MBA13/2011 does, and that is currently driving my external 24" 1920x1200 screen just fine. Your TV is 1920x1080, so that even though it may have a lot more inches, it has fewer pixels than that, and it's the pixels that cost GPU power, not the inches. Size doesn't matter, its what you do with it!
Since you're comfortable upgrading the ram yourself, obviously put in 8 or 16 instead of the 2 or 4 it comes with. The pricing on that ram is insanely low right now and while I'd personally go for the 16 on a desktop machine, I reckon for your intended usage 8 is well more than sufficient (4 would probably work, it does on aforementioned MBA13 after all), and it's about $50ish difference which is not nothing.
If you can live with a small capacity drive, and are willing to open up the Mini further than just the base cover over the ram, I'd recommend getting a 128 GB SSD and installing it. The Apple price for the 256GB SSD, only on the midrange, is probably not worth it. You can even get a second-hard-drive-kit from one of the two well-known vendors and add the SSD while keeping the existing drive as an internal storage drive.
P.S.: I don't actually believe in CPU upgrades. Even when you start with the midrange, the i7 is still $100 and that will also buy you that SSD, or get you most of the way to that SSD plus the second hard drive kit. The difference in performance between the i5 at 2.5 and the i7 at 2.7 is really pretty darn minimal, so as long as you're choosing to do one thing and not the other, get the SSD before the CPU upgrade, no question. If you wanna go full-option balls-to-the-wall-everything-maxed, that's another thing, just don't go for the i7 upgrade as the first thing.
P.P.S.: Now that the 2012 MBAs and traditional MBPs are out, it seems likely that a Mac Mini refresh is coming relatively soon which contains an Ivy Bridge CPU and chipset (which means USB3 and HD4000), a more capable discrete GPU in the versions that have them, and (speculation tempered with hope) one of those new 35W TDP Quadcores in the midrange model, possibly as the CPU upgrade (pretty please, Apple?). It might be worth waiting for. On the other hand, waiting for new computer hardware is also a chump's game. There's *always* something better around the corner.

Which macbook pro should i buy for architecture/interior design?

My question is about the 13" or the 15" pro. My wife is starting out in architecture/interior design and she already knows she'll be using photoshop cs3, Rhino and auto cad. Her concern is the weight of the unit and the price and is therefore leaning towards the 13". But I've been pushing her to the high end 15" because of the better video card and processor.
All said and done is the extra $1000 worth it, considering she'll be using it for the next 4 years? She is the careful one with the money, so I need a better way to rationalize the extra $1000 for the 15" than just saying that its "better". As far as she's concerned, I'm just buying into the apple occult over the best shiny new thing!
Another question concerns whether, if she can make it through first term without a computer, we should wait until the next refresh. My friend told me that macbook pros might become like the mac airs. If that's the case it'd really solve our weight problems.

The AIR is the way it is because it's stripped down and has lousy integrated graphics where the CPU handles it, thus they overheat. A Windows PC laptop would be the same and a lot leas expensive (although not as thin), dragging the external optical drive around is a real pain too.
Your correct about the 15" for the software she needs to run, namely Photoshop and AutoCad, and likely VMFusion and Windows too.
I would get the 2.2 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro and the anti-glare high resolution screen, the glare of the glossy screens makes it unsuitable for most professional uses.

The 15" and 17" MBP are the only anti-glare screen computers Apple still makes, so grab a powerful 2.2 Ghz while they still sell them and make it last as long as possible
That would make the lowest annaul cost of ownership possible, as the software wouldn't need to be replaced as soon, the softwares combined is likely to cost more than the machine.
The AIR is nice, if she used it as a consumer computer, but she's got "Pro" intentions and the AIR, the 13" and the 2.0 Ghz 15" doesn't cut it, especially in the graphics/3D rendering which AutoCAD is sorely needed a strong video card to render fast.
Some get a/iPad for light portable uses and the MaBook Pro for the heavy lifting, that could be a option for a extra $500,

While I understand the 'draw' of Laptops.. because of their portability etc... there are drawbacks that should be taken into account too.. and compared to a similar priced iMac/Mac Mini.... you get much better power/cost ration with an iMac/Mac Mini than you will ever get with a MBP....
Simply put you will spend roughly twice as much for a MBP compared to an iMac/Mac Mini to obtain the same performance... and while Retina does provide for a very good clear screen... the overheads that places on the systems of a MBP.. can often outweigh its real benefits when used with an App like LPX where Retina really serves no useful purpose/benefits....... especially for the extra cost.
Example..My nearly 3 year old 3.4Ghz i7 32GB iMac which cost less by some degree as my top of the range 2013 2.5 Ghz i7 16GB MBP with Retina.. 'smokes' the MBP so easily..... when using identical versions of LPX/LP9 under Mavericks.. Even my 2010 Mac Mini Server 2.0 Ghz 16GB gives the MBP a good run for it's money in comparision.. and that cost me less than $800 plus Monitor!

So I should probably start by saying I don't know too much about computers. I just know I want something fast and dependable, that will let me record, mix, surf the internet, all without having to worry about speed and performance.
I'm considering buying the 15 inch 2.2GHz retina model and I'm wondering if that would be good enough.
For the most part, I'll be doing the typical "record the band" dealio... Tracking and mixing drums, bass, guitars, vox, you know..
I'm definitely planning on getting an external hard drive to keep the space on my laptop free. Again, I'm kinda dumb when it comes to computer terms, so I'm just hoping someone can shed some light on the situation for me.

No worries! Your MacBook Pro does not have a USB 3.0 outlet. Only the macbook Pro with retina display has USB 3.0 outlets. It would not matter since all USB 3.0 devices work with with 2.0. I would not worry about the compatibility. If you want to use time machine only, buy a time capsule from Apple.com. If you want to use it for other storage stuff too, I would start by looking around at amazon.com. Hope this helps!
