Which Drive for Recording on GarageBand?

Hi there ...Please help out a total newbie ....
I have a G3 tower with 3 hard drives installed.
I just installed OSX on the home drive ... only 20 gigs ...
I have 2 other drives ... internal ... 120 gigs and 20 gigs ... both wiped clean ready to use.
I also have access to a Firewire external laCie drive ..
What I'm wondering is .... where would be the best place for me to record GarageBand files to?
I suppose you open it from the home drive ... and then record files onto any other drive? Or is Garageband actually installed on the other drive?
Should I use the internal drives ... (120 gig) to record on or the external Firewire drive?
Thanks for any help in getting me started out on the right foot ...

Create the project files on either the 120 internal or the FireWire drive (I choose FW for portability in my studio)

  • How do I use optical input for recording in Garageband 9?

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the Optical Line Input on my G5 for recording in Garageband, using a MOTU 828. I have the 828 optical output connected to the optical audio input on the G5, and I have Digital In (Optical digital-in port) selected in system preferences/sound. But in Garageband preferences, optical or digital input is not among my choices. If I select system setting or built-in audio 2, I get no signal. If I select MOTU 828, it defaults to the analog master outputs on the 828.
I am a Logic 8 user, and I'm able to select the optical input in Logic with no problem. I have my MOTU audio setup set so that the optical output is the default output, but Garageband still seems to use the analog output. I can tell by the record level, which is considerably louder for analog than for optical.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Save the file from Gmail onto your computer and add it to iTunes.  How you save from Gmail is a Gmail question (their own support pages), not an iTunes question.

  • Which input for recording computer sounds

I have recorded a number of tracks via my Soundblaster Line in input to AA. I have a software drum module which I want to record via AA, but I cant seem to get AA to register this input. It's not inputting via any line/mic/etc input, as it is on the computer already. Am I selecting the wrong input? I have tried a few of them on the list and none seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

If I open the Creative Audio Console, it has an option to record. You can select input for the recorder, and if I select "what u hear" then the equaliser bars respond to the drum software. However, in AA I cannot find an option to record "what u hear" or any equivalent - all the inputs seem to be for external sources (line in, digital in) and a few I don't understand (mix FL, mix RL) - if I choose these two latter ones, I get a sudden crescendo of feedback which causes the input level monitors to go into the red and cut out.
Update: I went into AA audio hardware setup and selected "Audition 3.0 windows sound" as the audio driver. The only output available is "SPDIF out". Now, I am able to select "what u hear" as a recording input!! HOWEVER, when I click "arm for record", I get the error message:
    Adobe Default Windows Sound Driver
Device: SPFID Out (Creative SB X-Fi)
    Errorcode: FFA-8-000D [800705aa]
Info: Playback failed. The audio system does not seem to respond. Maybe card does not support full duplex mode.
I am now able to record computer sounds, though I cannot hear the recording nor the playback when I am finished. If I set the device back to "Creative ASIO" then I am able to hear what I recorded.
My soundcard is a Creative 7.1 X-FI Elite Pro, which supports full duplex.
Would really appreciate any help !

  • Which Driver for MS SQL-Server 2000

    Hello,
i need to access a MS SQL-Server 2000 and want to ask which driver you think is the best one for this problem.
I am not a big fan of using beta-Software, and i do not need the newest state-of-the-art features. Right now i also do not need Connection-Pooling.
Only a few SQL SELECT/UPDATE-Statements nothing more.
But maybe in not far away future, Conn-Pooling and Procedure-Calls could be interesting. And i think Type 3 or 4 would be the best decision.
The Software will run on NT, but i do not want to use the JDBC/ODBC-Bridge, because it is so unbelievable slow.
I am interested in WHICH DRIVER you USE, AND especially which drivers you DO NOT USE ANYMORE, and why.
It would be great, if anyone could help me, finding the best solution.
P.S.: The price of the driver: It would be good, when it is for free. But if you know a good commercial driver i am also interested in.
P.P.S: Yes, i have searched for drivers under http://servlet.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers. But there are 37 different Type 3/4 drivers.

You can try the jtds project .Search for it in www.sourceforge.net. It is derived from FreeTDS JDBC driver. Both of them are Type 4 JDBC drivers. So far I have tried both of them a few years ago. And jtds is more updated (during those time, not sure what the status is right now)
Or, you can get Microsofts own JDBC driver

The Audigy Advanced MB isn't a device, it is an application that makes your onboard sound sound better. Therefore, it doesn't have a "driver", the only drivers involved would be the driver for your onboard sound, which you need to get from Dell.
As for the application itself, it is my understanding that it's not ready for Vista yet, and I am currently trying to get an update on that situation.

  • Which driver for SB0

I fully realize that there may not be any support for this card any longer, I believe its an OEM Audigy ES, with EAX. I had used some old driver that came with it for XP, but with vista I have the sound only slightly working.
My 5. doesn't fully work, with neither of the back speakers recieving sound. Also, when starting a movie in Quicktime or WMP, sometimes it is just static untill i pause/play again.
I understand i'm better off than most, but when beta 2 drivers do come out, which driver will I want to use?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Which driver for SB 00090 ca

I'm having problems deciphering which driver is right for the SB 00090 card. I went to the "http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/, I don't see this product in the product list. I click Soundblaster, then I guess it's Audigy (and not Audigy 2), but none of the corresponding products match the description above.

  • Connecting 2 USB Devices for recording in GarageBand blue yeti and M-Audio Mobil pre. will they both work together one track each?

I Have set my Audio Midi Setup under Audio Devices to Aggregate Devices and selected M-Audio MobilPre USB and Blue Yeti Microphone.
I plugged my MobilPre into one USB port on my MacBook and the Blue Yeti Mic into the other USB on my MacBook. So I have two inputs
and I set each device for OUTPUT as the HeadPhones from the Blue Yeti Mic. I still cannot record the vocals on the blue yeti and the Guitar on the MobilPre
At the same time even though both show the rec button is active on both. What do I need to do to get these to both work recording at the same time?

I'm not sure what you mean by "mixed with audio in Alsamixer". Can you clarify?
With that said, my problem did mysteriously fix itself after some update (presumably to alsa). Unfortunately, I noticed it in passing one day while I was changing the volume of something in pavucontrol, so I don't remember the exact update that caused it to work. But yes, my current setup does work now: I can listen to audio through my DAC and use the Yeti for recording. However, I have found that use of the Yeti crashes Google Hangouts, although it works perfectly in every other program I've tried.
As documentation, here is my current working setup (it is very similar to the above): in PulseAudio, the DAC is set to be a Digital Stereo (IEC958) output. The Yeti (called an 'Integrated Rate Matching Hub' in pavucontrol) is set to be an Analog Stereo Input. In the input devices section, I have the Yeti's volume set to around 58% (-14.31 dB), which is past the base volume a fair ways but produces decent levels for recording. The DAC's volume is set to 100% (0dB gain, the DAC takes care of the level). In alsamixer, I have the mic level for the Yeti set to 40.
Edit: This is a long-time-later edit, but let me say that when you have multiple USB audio devices, what USB hub and in what order they are connected seems to matter a great deal. If you can't get your Blue Yeti to work, try moving it to a different set of USB ports (controlled by a different controller) on your motherboard. This magically fixes the issue for me.

  • What soundcard goes with ne Inspire P7800 - want a Live! Drive for recording with it

I just bought the new Inspire P7800 7.1 system and have been using a Soundblaster Live Platinum card since it was the hottest, newest card. Now I see the Audigy series and am wondering if I can take full advantage of this speaker system I have with the current card installed. I can only seem to make the front two, center and woofer work with this old card and my software only gives me options for four speakers. There is a Surround Sound feature but it doesn't seem to work. I have two jacks on the card, one for line out and one for rear. I am assuming I need a newer version of Soundblaster. Can someone give me recommendations on cards?

Yes, I hear nothing but good things from Glyph drives, but like you said, they are $70-$100 more. I was unaware about the Oxford 924 chip. If Glyph promotes it in a product for recording purposes, then it shouldn't be bad. The studios at my school, Ball State's Music Technology Dept., use both the Glyph drives and the OWC Mercury Elites and have had good relations with both. I guess it's up to you. From what Sweetwater has told me, the Glyph drives are supposed to be more rugged and be able to handle more stress, but they are just Seagate drives in them, so who knows.
Here's a little article about the Glyph drives to help you with your decision making.

  • Which drive for project?

I have the standard Macintosh HD as well as a media drive. On which drive should my FCP project reside in order to get the best performance?

    Hi Andy,
I would suggest that when you open FCP and start a new project, open system settings and get it to save the scratch disc as your second drive (media drive) Save all of your files, FCP project file, Capture scratch etc on the media drive, but do not change the setting for the aurosave vaults where FCP backups will then be on your system drive.
This way if you have a catastrophic failure of your media drive, bad luck (common if you are using LACIE) but you will still have the backup luxury of the autosave FCP project file. OK you have to re-capture the footage but all is not lost. Similarly if your system drive crashes (serious sticky stuff and un-likely as its MAC) you still have the FCP project file and rushes on yourmedia drive.
Hope this helps. It han't failed us yet with our mobile edit suite. The main suites are configured totally different but that's due to RAID arrays.

  • Which drive for Vault?

I need to purchase a portable hard drive for backing my Aperture library using the vault feature. I don’t have any experience with portable hard-drives and hope someone could give me a suggestion on which models to look at.
I’m a hobbyist photographer and currently have about 10,000 images from a Canon 5D. I run Aperture on a Quad core PPC with 6 gig of ram.
Any advice on portable hard-drives to consider is greatly appreciated.
    Ken

I have two external hard drives that I use for storing stuff. And I use both as external Aperture vault locations which I connect to my MacBook Pro when I want to update the vaults. One is a Maxtor One Touch USB and the other is a Western Digital "Media Center" external hardrive that can be connected either by USB or firewire (six pin). While I would prefer a model that does not depend upon external power source, they work fine. I will admit that they are not as portable as other models in that they are a little big and have a fairly large AC-power adapter (I am talking about US models). If you can get a firewire version (my MBP had a six pin firewire port), do so since the speed is a little better than USB 2.0. See http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=75 for info. There are many different kinds of models available. And don't bother installing the software that comes with it. MAC OS X handles it just fine as is.

  • Which driver for connecting to Oracle ?

    Hi all,
I'm looking for some information about Connection pools for Oracle.
In particular, which driver is recommended by Bea for
    a XA Connection ?
As I can see from the WLS 8.1 sp4 console, there are 2 choices:
    Oracle Driver (Thin XA) and
Bea Oracle Driver (Type 4 XA).
(This choice exists also for non-XA connections.)
Which is the suggested driver ?
Does it change if Oracle is running standalone or RAC ?
    Thanks a lot
    Francesco

I think using Oracle jdbc driver is recommended, although I cannot point you to any written doc on that subject off the top of my head ;-)
From the other hand BEA driver implemented some functionality which is not supported in oracle's drivers. For example, Statement.getGeneratedKeys() is implemented.
Nevertheless, since there is a workaround for this, and given the fact that oracle drivers are im wider use than BEA's drivers by definition, I'd go with Oracle's implementation.
We're using oracle jdbc g10 for our application with heavy XA and it seems to be stable enough.

  • Which drive for Photoshop?

I have 3 hard drives one for OS, one for Photoshop and one for back up.
I inadvertently allowed my CS4 upgrade to load onto the OS drive, CS3 is on the Photoshop drive.
If I load Photoshop from the dock I get a message saying 'This application has been moved from the location in which it was originally installed. Some settings need to be repaired.' If I cancel this PHotoshop loads so it is no big problem but would be nicer to load directly.
On the Photoshop forum I am advised that it would be better to have Photoshop on the boot drive.
I thought I had read on this forum that Mac users often have Photoshop on its own drive so would I be better to transfer CS4 alongside CS3 on its own drive, and how do I do that?

    Hi daveat22;
I think that I read on this forum exactly what they told you on the Adobe forum to leave PhotoShop on the system. Loading the application is not that much of a load so having it with the system isn't a problem.
In order to do that you might have to uninstall both copies and start over again. I know when I downloaded the demo I had troubles load my purchased copy until I uninstall the demo.

  • Which driver for an HP 4650?

What driver should I use for an HP 4650 connected to a PC running Windows XP SP3? There are so many choices.... Even when I download one (e.g., HPUPD47PCL532.exe, clj4650pcl6winvista2kxp2003.exe, etc), there are often additional choices, or a half dozen inf files from which to select.
Likewise, what driver should I use for the same printer, but accessing across a network, for a computer running Vista Business 64 with an Intel Core Duo processor? HPUPD47PCL664.exe, clj4650pcl6winvista2kxp2003.exe? One final question as I enter day three without a printer... does the driver used on the PC that is connected directly to the printer (i.e., the XP) affect the printer that is connected on the network (Vista)? Thanks!
