  • What kind of DVI cable do I need?

Hi. I want to run video from my PB12 to my plasma TV (I know I need a separate audio cable).
I have the mini DVI to DVI adapter that came with the PB. My question is really, how many pins must the HDMI - DVI cable have? I see so many available with 18 (+1), but my adapter is 24 (+1).
Do I NEED a 24 pin, or can I use the much easier to find 18 pin?
    thanks!

I use the adaptor to transfer the signal to a VGA format and simply bought a VGA cable from monoprice.com. Very good deals on all kinds of cables.
I recently ordered a VGA cable for a friend and they sent me a DVI to HDMI cable by mistake. I bet that would work fine too. It would seem to me that DVI is DVI, and there aren't any optional connectors that will work without all the possible pins in place.....in other words, I don't know for sure about the pin thing...I'd just get a DVI to HDMI, at the length you need, and see if it works.

  • Which firewire cable do I need?

I have a imac g4. I am unsure if the firewire port on the back of my machine has 4 or 6 pins. It looks like it has 4. I need to know how many pins should be on each end of my firewire cable based on my particular imac. This firewire cable will be connecting to an external hard drive that supports both 6 pin 400 and 9 pin 800 firewire.

4-pin FW ports are very small. You see them on video cameras and such. You're most likely to have a 6-pin FW 400 port - looks like a rectangle with one corner flattened.
    To be sure, go here:
    http://www.everymac.com/
where you can get a detailed spec for your iMac.
I just had a quick look, and all the iMac G4 FP specs I saw said FW 400 ports, which will be six-pin

  • Which DVI cable for my PowerMac

    Hello,
I am almost positive I am going to purchase an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition for my Quicksilver G4 but I have a few questions first. I have a Westinghouse 22" LCD monitor. My understanding is that the Radeon 9800 has DVI-I output and the Westinghouse has DVI-D input (along with VGA). The card and monitor will work together through the DVI connection right? I believe DVI-I sends out both digital and analog signals while the DVI-D only accepts digital. Which cable should I get and where would I purchase it? Any suggestons?
    Thanks,
    Brandon
P.S Here are links to both items I mentioned.

DVI-D Cables are compatible with DVI-I but not the reverse ( due to DVI-D lacking the analog pins )
    A male DVI-D can plug into a female DVI-I
A male DVI-I can NOT plug into a female DVI-D

  • Which DVI connector do I need?

I bought a DVI to HDMI adapter yesterday, only to discover that the DVI plug was the wrong size!
I've had a look around and I can't find anything that looks like it is the right size, mini-div, micro-dvi... what do I need normal DVI?
    It's a MacBook3,1

You need mini dvi to dvi adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9321G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU1MTM
Keep in mind that DVI doesn't carry the audio signal so you'll have to have separate audio cables.

  • Which eSATA cable do I need?

I've never used a SATA device before and am confused about which type of cable I need to connect my external hard drive to my computer's SATA port.
The external drive is a 1TB Acomdata pureDrive with an eSATA interface (here are its specs). My computer is a Macbook Pro 5,5; I bought it in September of 2009, so I'm assuming it's the mid-2009 model. Thanks for any tips. The more specific you can get, the better, as I have no idea what I'm doing!

Your drive uses a 7-pin eSATA connector. This cable will work:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/StarTech.com-ESATA6-Shielded-External-eSATA-Cable/1307 8073?sourceid=1500000000000003142050&cisrc=14110944&cisku=13078073
    Is this your computer?
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .8-aluminum-17-mid-2009-unibody-specs.html
If so, you have an ExpressCard 34 expansion slot, so you can buy this
to add an eSATA connector to your computer:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sonnet-TSATAII-E342P-TEMPO-2-Port-eSATA-Express-Card-P C/13216233?sourceid=1500000000000003142050&cisrc=14110944&cisku=13216233
If your computer doesn't have an ExpressCard 34 slot, boo-hoo!
You'll have to try to get this to work with your Firewire connector,
but then it will have Firewire speed:

    if it works.

  • Which SATA cables do I need?

Recently I tried installing a 2.5" SSD in a 3.5" enclosure (Icy Dock) in one of the internal drive bays in my Mac Pro. The enclosure was defective, apparently, because the SATA ports on the enclosure didn't quite line up with the internal SATA ports in the MP drive bay. Unfortunately, I pushed a little too hard to get it in and I ended up bending the metal brackets that the black plastic SATA port is screwed on to in the Mac Pro.
The result is that the SATA port is now bend down at about a 10% angle, which is enough to prevent me from sliding a hard drive in and connecting it. I've tried to bend it back to the normal angle, but I wasn't successful.
I'd hate to lose the use of that bay, so I was thinking I could just get a SATA cable to connect the drive to the drive bay. I guess I'd have to have both the SATA to SATA connector and the SATA to SATA power cable. Unfortunately, I can't find a cable like that. Any ideas?

    Something like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/22-Pin-SATA-Male-Female-Extension-Cable-/290394275128
    - or shorter, if you can find it?
Not sure where/how you're going to mount the drive though! I suppose, if you're only trying to fit a 2.5" drive in a 3.5" bay, it'll fit, and you can coil up the "unused" extension cable round it.

  • Just purchased airport extreme what cable do i need to start the process, is it a double ended male usb cable because there is no cat-5 connector on macbook air?

Hi,  which type cable do I need to start a hard wire connection between my Airport extreme and my macbook Air, is it a double ended male USB
because there is no cat-5 port in the notebook

If you want to connect the AirPort Extreme to the MacBook Air via Ethernet, you'll need one of these (requires a late 2010 MacBook Air or later and OS X Lion (10.7.4) or later): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD463ZM/A/thunderbolt-to-gigabit-ethernet-adap ter

Can I attach my HP monitor w1907 to Mac air with a DVI cable?

You need to use a DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter; for a 30-inch display, the adapter needs to be dual-link.

  • Which Firewire Cable to Connect Drobo S to 24" Early 2009 iMac? Thank you.

    Hello Support Communities,
Which Firewire cable do I need to connect a Drobo S to a 24" early 2009 iMac?
    Firewire 800? Firewire 400? 8 pin? 9 pin? 6 pin?
    Thank you.

The iMac has Firewire 800 it is a 9 pin connector as shown…
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1394
    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a3/Firewire800.jpg
Wikipedia also says the Drobo S has Firewire 800 & USB2
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drobo
A Firewire 9 pin to Firewire 9 pin cable should be fine, otherwise you could use USB2 but it is slower & less reliable than FW 800 in my opinion.

  • DVI cable choice

Could someone just confirm for me which dvi cable to buy to connect my mac mini to a lcd monitor? I've been looking on the net and there are dvi male to male, male to female, then there's dvi-i and dvi-d and dual and single link ones?? Just want to make sure I get the right one. Cheers.

I just bought mine. I bought male to male and just single. The double is for bigger screens I believe. I hope this helps you.

  • Which Firewire cable to buy?

I need to buy a firewire cable for my new iMac. I have a Sony FX1E camera which uses a 4 pin Firewire I think!.
Which Firewire cable do I need - there are so many different ones in PC World.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The iMac has a 9 pin Firewire port, so you would need a 4 pin to 9 pin cable. I would check with the camera manufacturer because the camera may require a special cable that they manufacture that prevents the iMac from sending to much wattage and burning out the camera.

  • Which kind of DVI cable to use with a KVM switch?

Hi. I have a Power Macintosh G5 and three (3) Mac Minis. I also have a Apple Cinema Display (DVI). I recently purchased a Avocent 4 Port DVI/USB KVM switch. I just got it today. It looks like a nice switch. However, it did not come with any cables. So, I need to buy some USB cables and some DVI cables. Should I buy DVI-A, DVI-D, or "dual" DVI cables?
    Thanks in advance for help.

Unless you have a 30" ACD, which requires dual-link DVI, you want to buy DVI-D cables.

  • Need to extend my DVI cable from my Mac pro to my Apple 23" cinema display

I need to extend my existing DVI cable to the maximum allowed distance (without using a repeater) of 3m or 15'. This means I need a 12 foot extension cable Male to Female. I don't need to extend the USB or Firewire ports.
I've searched the threads and seen discussions but am interested in feedback from someone who has actually done the extension and is happy with the outcome.
I understand that the 23" monitor can use a single link cable and that the interface is DVI-I. Anyone tried this?
    Many thanks for the help!!
    Mac Pro, 2.66GHz, 4GB mem, 2TB storage   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The graphics board has a DVI-I port, but since the Apple display only uses the digital signals, you can use a digital only cable, which might be a bit cheaper. Take a look at the female connector on the cable, though. Make sure it has holes for all the pins on the display's plug. The plug may have the analog pins, even though it doesn't use them.

  • Which cable do I need to connect my Mac Book Pro to my Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera for transferring video to iMovie?

which cable do I need to connect my Mac Book Pro to my Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera for transferring video to iMovie?

    I totally understand.
Check some things from here, I have 2 and they have been great so far.
Check here, lots of storage and reasonable prices. Also great support, you get to speak to a person
Clean off your on the G5 drive and off you go.
I suggest buying a second drive and setting it up for a back up, Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper (both "bootable" back up) All searchable on the web.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/search/elite+pro
You can talk to a person for REAL advice, Phone: 800.275.4576  Ask about exporting to your G5 and and exporting to your existing OSX, you may only need a small inexpensive drive for this.
Quick delivery and willing to help.
Hope this makes you back up and running :-)
Do get a back up drive, as it is not ""whether my drive will fail, as much as "when my drive fails"
    All the best
