Which EM version to choose?

Not really a technical question, but how would you recommend which version of Enterprise Manager/Grid Control to use?
Sometimes a customer will have a 10g database and will want to implement EM, is it wise to recommend 12c off the bat? If 10g or a lower version, how would you justify or recommend one version or the other, say 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5?
Thanks

Hi,
All these following versions of db targets can be monitored by 12.1.0.2, which was the latest EM available:
11.2.0.3.0,11.2.0.2.0,11.2.0.1.0,11.1.0.7.0,10.2.0.5.0,10.2.0.4.0,10.1.0.5.0,9.2.0.8.0
So, we can suggest, to go with the latest version, if the above target versions meet his criteria.

Venkat

hi, i got Macbook Pro 2007, OS X 10.5.8, I would like to update my system, which one I should choose? tks

Mountain Lion is the current version of the latest OS, with Mavericks coming this fall.
However, I would suggest that you simply upgrade to Snow Leopard -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. It's a very good, very fast OS and, best of all, it can still run those PPC apps that you may be using.

  • Which OWB version is 'better': 9.2.0.4 or 10gR1?

    LS,
For a new project I can choose which OWB version to install. Currently I'm working with 9.2.0.4, and I wonder whether 10gR1 is better.
Since the project starts in a month or so we cannot wait for 'Paris'...
I'm quite satisfied with the performance of 9.2.0.4, know how to work with it and which gripes and bugs to expect.
The only real drawback is the fact that you have to install 9.2.0.2.8 first and then patch it to 9.2.0.4.
The only experience I have with 10gR1 is on my 'own' laptop on which I did a tiny tryout. Works basically the same as 9.2, but I noticed some annoying behaviour.
When editing a table in a mapping, at some stage the "Mapping Table Editor" gets displayed only partially - the left side will be 'blank'.
Don't know whether this is a bug or that it's OS related (running Win2K Pro) or DB related (10g), but it's a hassle because you have to guess what you're typing when adding columns to a table (or view).
Any suggestions on the 'preferred version'?
    Thanks, Patrick

    Hello Patrick,
no special documentation. But, I try to gather ideas and use cases, even from projects very different from OWB+Oracle, and then there is an effort to obtain a design as modular as possible. For small tables I prefer to lay out a complete, already templated stream of mappings rather then saving some nanoseconds at runtime. The main effort in the OWB GUI is done in preparing templates, and tuning those special cases which require extra care or performance, à la Customer dimension.
The graphical tool is home-made. It is an effort to put together in a sensible way the bunch of OMB scripts etc useful to define the ETL.
This reminds me of another GUI idea: I have read in this forum (maybe also from you?) about sharing scripts etc in a more open and easy way than Oracle OTN. This would be very useful, but to me it's diffucult to find a path in my own scripts which often require parameters embedded in the code, not to speak of scripts made by others. So I think it would be useful to write a simple GUI to interface with OMBPlus, allowing to collect the useful scripts that many people ask for and to have a dialog asking for parameters instead of parsing scripts by hand every time one needs them.
I plan to implement this one myself sooner or later, but maybe someone else could be interested in this one.

  • Which iPod version to get?

I'm thinking of getting a nano and giving my ipod touch to my brother, but the question is, what version should I get?
    I am looking for:
    - Long battery life.
    - Ability to disable motion sensor, or no motion sensor (would make adjusting volume while listening in bed rather annoying to manage)
    - Search feature
    - On-the-go playlists
    - In "All songs" after choosing an artist, it should order songs by albums and then by track number (ipod touch did not do this, ipod nano gen2 did).
    - Should be able to be used as a disk drive on computers without iTunes installed
    - Should fulfil all of the above criteria, not just "most".
I don't know for certain, but I'm fairly sure that turning a 5th-gen ipod nano on its side while it is playing a song will turn on CoverFlow, which is not what I want at all. If it's anything like the ipod touch and can't be disabled, then the 5th-gen ipod nano is definitely out of the question - can anyone recommend which generation I should choose?

I don't have my *nano 5g* here to try it, but according to the user guide, you can disable Cover Flow from the Settings menu (Settings - General - Rotate: select Cover Flow or Off).

  • I woudl like to install Reader but I don't know which Operating System to choose.

I have Windows XP Professional. The choices to install Reader are for Windows XP SP3, Windows XP SP2 (32 bit), Windows XP SP2 (64 bit). Which one should I choose?

The right one... all three of those are different flavours of Windows XP Professional.
It's pretty unlikely that you would be running the "64 bit" flavour, so you need to know
the service pack number of your system
To find out which one is the right one, right click on MY COMPUTER. It should say
    System:
       Microsoft Windows XP
       Professional
       Version 2002
       Service Pack ...
Armed with that information you should be good to go. Choose 32-bit if there is a choice.

Be sure to do a backup before updating as protection. Photos should
be synced with your computer, music should be in iTunes, documents
should be backed up on your computer as should contacts in whatever
program you use on your computer. You should already have backups
of your important information to prevent loss in case of theft, crash,
physical damage. The question is not if your hard drive will crash but
when, and you iPhone is not a backup device nor fit for the only
source of any document, picture, music, movie, contact or otherwise
    irreplaceable information.

Any DAQmx should work, I use the latest with LV7.1. You can download it from ni.com or use the CDs supplied with your hardware.
The mistake you made was to copy the missing VIs. You need to run the DAQmx installer instead (after installing LV, so it can detect which LV versions to support).

  • For the picture quality which one i should choose, canon 700d or 60d??

Hey guys, im planning to buy a camera...
because i'm not have so much money so i'm interested at 2 models.... EOS 60D and EOS 700D
60D are old one than 700D... If i want a better picture which camera I should choose??
I usually shooting at JPEG mode....
And if I saw the spec the processor are quietly different (DIGIC 5 on 600D and DIGIC 4 on 60D), is the processor affect very much on the picture quality.....
and my notes, i dont like to buy twice so I would buy for the best....... thanks guys....
    ---HarrY---

The 700D has more "gee wiz" features (touch-screen, etc.)   But the 700D is more of an "entry" range body and the 60D is a "mid-range" body (Canon has entry level bodies, mid-level bodies, and pro-level bodies.)
On a "pro" and "mid-range" body, the body has two dials... one just behind the shutter button and the other on the back of the body.  These are strategically located so that when shooting in manual mode, you can put your index finger on the front wheel (usually to adjust shutter speed) and you can but your thumb on the rear-dial (usually to adjust aperture/f-stop).  This allows for fairly rapid use in manual mode without needing to take your eye away from the viewfinder.
The 60D has that layout (more like a pro body).  The 700D does not.
The imaging senssors on those two bodies are actually the same generation (both use Canon's 18MP sensor).  You wont actually see any significant difference in image quality between the two bodies.
The 60D is "weather sealed" (I put that in quotes because you should NOT confuse this for meaning it is water-proof.  It is not waterproof ... do not submerge it.  That would be very bad.)  Weather sealed means that openings in the body for buttons and dials and body seams all have gaskets or o-rings which are generally regarded as being good enough to seal out water or dust as long as it's not under any pressure.  If you get caught in the rain... not a big deal.  Just towel it off (do not open the body until you towel it off... it's obviously not sealed when doors are open or your lens is removed.)  Many of Canon's "L" series lenses (not all of them) are also weather sealed.  So keep in mind that while the body may be sealed and able to deal with some rain... the lens may not necessarily be able to deal with some rain.
DIGIC V does have better JPEG processing than DIGIC IV... although you may not necessarily be able to notice the difference.
I've seen (and so have you) stunningly gorgeous images coming from very old and very basic DSLR bodies.  The largest difference in image quality will be you... your skill.  Buying a Canon 1D-X flagship body will not ensure your images look fantastic no more than buying a Steinway concert grand piano will help you play beautiful music... if you never learned to play a piano.  You ultimately have to learn photography, exposure, and how to take advantage of your camera.
If you plan to learn to shoot in manual mode, you will likely prefer the control and ergonomic layout that the 60D offers.  If you prefer to shoot in automatic, semi-automatic, or scene modes, then you will likely prefer the 700D.

  • Which one I should choose ?

I'm a beginner and I have no idear which one I should choose:JB5.0,VJ++ or anyone else.I'm looking foward some suggestions about it.
    Thank for your help.

Ive seen the suggestions of willright, morgalr,DrClap, and jsalonen. Thank for your helps. Ive also heard some evaluations about VJ++ as DrClap said, and it doesnt matter whether its free or not, but now I maintain JB is more suitable cause I think JDKs form Sun are difficult to understand. Im not so bright that I like visual platform and Ill go to see the Forte you advised. Thank you very much!

  • Pan and Zoom Effect, which PE version introduced it?

I like my PE 3.0 but it does not seem to offer the Pan and Zoom effect. Or am I just not seeing it.  Does anyone know which later version introduced it? I know 8.0 has it, but when did it come along?  The bundled version of Photoshop 5.0 it came with has a pan slide show, just discovered it.
Also, I am familiar with keyframes, would this be helpful with 3.0 pan? or do I need a newer version.  Any tutorials good for this?
    thank you

Pan & Zoom is available in all versions that offer Keyframing on the fixed Effects>Motion>Scale (Zoom) and Motion>Position (Pan). What might have been introduced would be Presets to do those with "one button." Do not know when those came into being. I do not use them in PrE 4, and would not in PrE 8, or 9, as I want control, and also the ability to determine what MY subject is, in an image. No amount of AI can do that for me, so a simple Preset stands about a zero chance of doing exactly what I want.
At some point, PSE added the automatic Random Pan & Zoom. Again, were I doing a slideshow in it, I would not apply such, as i would Keyframe Motion>Position and Motion>Scale in PrE.
In PrE 3, I feel strongly that you have the Effects Control Panel (accessed via Edit Effects for a Clip/still), and the ability to Keyframe both Motion>Scale and Motion>Position. This allows one adjust the parameters for those Effects over time, i.e. create a Zoom, and create a Pan. Other than the fact that you do these by hand, by eye and by mind, but with ultimate control, you have the features - just not automatically applied via a single button.
    Good luck,

  • WLC: which software-version support SHA2 certificates for Web Authentification and Web Management ?

    Hello,
I tried to install new SHA2 3th-Party certificates on our WLCs. There are old WiSM1-Boards and 2504 to support our old 1230 Access Points, running 7.0.251.2, which didn't install it, although the config manual for 7.6 and 8.0 say that SHA2 certificates are supported since 7.0.250.0. When I tried to install the SHA2-certificates I get the message "File transfer failed" an the log says:
    *TransferTask: Dec 12 13:22:14.394: #UPDATE-3-CERT_INST_FAIL: updcode.c:1869 Failed to install Webauth certificate. rc = 1
*TransferTask: Dec 12 13:22:14.394: #SSHPM-3-KEYED_PEM_DECODE_FAILED: sshpmcert.c:4085 Cannot PEM decode private key
I tried to install the same certificates on our WiSM2-Boards, running 7.4.121.0 and I failed too. The same certificates could be installed on a 2504 running 8.0.100 without any problems.
In all 3 cases I tried to install unchained certificates for web management and Level 3 chained certificates  for web authentication. I used the following guides to get the certificates (e.g. taken from the config manual 8.0.100):
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-lan-controllers/109597-csr-chained-certificates-wlc-00.html
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wlan-security/70584-csr-wlc-00.pdf
Which software versions support SHA2 certificates and which didn't ? Is the a list for it ?
    Regards

    Hello,
I solved the problem. First I used a Debian Linux system with Openssl 1.0.1. After I searched the internet using one of the log messages above I found sites which mentioned to use Openssl 0.9.x. So I tried a productive and security fixes Debian Linux System running Openssl 0.9.8 and I succeeded. The wlcs accepted the certificate files and used it after a reboot. The Web GUI still shows a SHA1 Fingerprint, but the certificate signature Algorithm is SHA2:
    Signature Algorithm: sha256WithRSAEncryption
When you check the openssl.org homepage Openssl 0.9.8 is still one of the actual version of openssl and is still available and fixed. But the Openssl Roadmap says:
"We don't want to have to maintain too many branches. This is likely to include a timescale for the EOL of version 0.9.8"
I don't know the differences between certificates made with openssl 0.9.8 and 1.0.1. Is there anybody who can explain it to me ?
