  • Xcode3 Completely Freezes Leopard 10.5.3 on Santa Rosa MacBook Pro

    Hi
I am recently workin on a software project on Xcode3 (with all the latest Updates)
with great disappointments i found out that very often (not every day or every time i use it) while in the process of editing source files the leopard user interface completely freezes (something like a kernel panic happens) and the only thing i can do is to force a shutdown.
it happened to me at least 10 times (sometimes more than one time a-day). i have had user interface freezes before while using other applications but that i'm not having them anymore, the problem clearly re emerged by using xcode (which i never used before)
i suspect it has to do with bugs in the graphics drivers for the GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip that is used by my Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa Macbook Pro (2.2 Ghz) and that Mac Os 10.5.3 Still has not fixed
Anyone has the same problem? or any idea?
    Thanks

It happened once again while i was copying (Apple-C) a selected line of code on the Xcode Source file Editor
I officially submitted tha Bug Report to Apple (Bug ID# 5985528).
In Responce to the System User Interface Freeze i obtained a SystemUIServer Crash Report of which i report the first lines

  • Santa rosa macbook+4gb ram PLZ HELPPPPP

i have a santa rosa macbook (on the box it says it supports up to 4gb) and i was trying to upgrade ram to 4gb from the default 1gb. So i bought 2X 2gb comstar ram from futureshop.
the problem is that when i try to put both of the new sticks for a total of 4 gb, the macbook will turn on but the screen will be black and the sleep indicator light on.
however, when i only put one 2gb in and leave the other slot filled with default 512mb stick for a total of 2.5gb, it will turn on properly and recognize it as 2.5 gb.
I've tried switching ram and slots numerously to determine if it's the slot or ram fault, but it doesn't work whever it's 4gb and works if it's 2.5gb.

    Hello everybody,
Today unfortunately I got 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair low latency (VSA4GSDSKIT667C4) and I'm having the same problem as some of you, the system just handle up to 3GB. I tried many different combination but no luck at the moment. What is going on? Corsair is selling something that doesn't have any guarantee. I'm very disappointed and upset.
    My MacBook specs:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: *3 GB* (old module + 2GB corsair)
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB31.008E.B02
    SMC Version: 1.24f2
    Serial Number: W87503EHZ66
    Chipset Model: GMA X3100
    Good luck!

  • New Santa Rosa Macbook, No wifi via bootcamp??

Anyone know how to fix this?
Ethernet works, but no wifi. I installed Vista via bootcamp on a new Santa Rosa Macbook. It says that the wireless adapter is Broadcom N. But it wil not connect to wifi, it shows all the networks, but I cannot connect.
Anyone help? I don't even know which Broadcom chip it is to upgrade the driver.
    I'm desperate here.

It should work, but.... I have the "late 2006" Macbook, which has an Atheros based radio, and ironically, it makes more stable Wi-Fi connections in Vista than OSX.
Asking the obvious, I'm presuming you installed the driver disc that boot camp asks you to burn.
In Vista, go to Connect To... on the start menu, then click Manage My Connections. You should be able to see a diagram with your computer, your LAN router and the Internet. If there is a red X on any part of the diagram, you should be able to right click the X and have Windows diagnose and/or try to repair the connection. Try deleting the problem connection(s), then search for networks again and re-join.
Right clicking in windows is putting two fingers on the touch pad, then clicking the button - that should get you the pop up context menu for where you pointer is touching.
Another thing you can try is to open a command window, then do "ipconfig /all | more" to see if your card has been assigned an IP address. You can also note your card's MAC address to see if the router(s) have seen your MAC address.
In some ways, Vista's networking controls are better, but if you're used to XP, it can be frustrating to figure out where things moved.

  • Design Limitation On ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz

While searching the Internet for answers to my new $2500.00 MBP headphone (output jack) has audible hissing sounds I found several posts on Macrumors.com and macintouch.com to explain the design Limitation/Problem. To summarize:
    The Problem
The issue has three components, as described in this MacinTouch Report:
    - A low hiss that is constant whenever the audio circuitry is on
    - Static that occurs whenever anything is playing... even something quiet.
    - A series of high-pitched noises that occur somewhat randomly. The best comparison I've seen is that it's like listening to those hearing tests where you raise your hand when you hear a tone.
The problem only occurs with low-impedance headphones (more on this below).
    Some Facts
    - The problem occurs on ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz. It is a design flaw on Apple's part, and returning your machine for a new one will not help. There are plenty of people who say they can't hear the noise, but those people either have high-impedance headphones or speakers, or just don't have very good hearing.
    - Only Santa Rosa MacBook Pros seem to be affected by this particular static problem. I've seen some reports of other machines having audio issues, but they are always different.
    - The 'Audio Update 2007-001' that Apple released about two weeks ago doesn't fix it. It does fix a popping problem on all Intel Macs (including the SR MBPs), so it's worth installing, but that is a different problem than this one.
    - It does seem to be an Apple-specific problem; I've been unable to find any other reports of non-Apple Santa Rosa notebooks having the same problem.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with their new MBP?
    Thanks,
    B

I experience the issue as well both in OS X and when I'm in Windows Vista.
Whenever a program uses audio, there is an annoying high-pitched hissing noise from the built-in speakers.
Of course the severity of the problem depends on the individual hearing ability, but everyone I have asked, have been able to hear the noise.
Apple is known to be the first choice of audio professionals; however this problem is below that standard.

  • Imac 27 as an external screen for PC with VGA

Can I use the Imac 27 as an external screen for my PC? Then PC has VGA output. Will a VGA to MiniDisplay work?

No. The input needs to be either from a Mini DisplayPort or regular DisplayPort. There are a few expensive conversion devices that go from DVI to Mini DisplayPort. However, I do not know of any that convert from VGA, which is an analog format.
The other problem, even from DVI, is the high resolution of the 27-inch iMac display. The 27-inch display is 2560x1440. That is above the regular (single-link) DVI max resolution of 1920x1200 and also above any VGA resolution. So unless the output is Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort (or dual-link DVI), it can't even reach the resolution needed to use the 27-inch iMac display.

  • Identifying a Santa Rosa MacBook

    Hi
I plan on buying a blackbook in the next couple of days from an Apple Reseller (military exchange store). ITs the same price as the one on the Apple website, but I want to make sure the mac I get is the most recent...and the one that their shipping directly from Apple.
Are there any was of telling if it is in fact a Santa Rosa macbook? It does come with Leopard, I know that much.
    thanks.

Apple MacBook MB063LL/A 13.3" Notebook PC (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 8x SuperDrive) Black. GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory

As you can see the Santa Rosa is all new and lots more bang for your buck.

  • Is it possible to use the old iMac 2010 21inch as an external monitor for my 15inch Macbook retina?

Is it possible to use the old iMac 2010 21inch as an external monitor for my 15inch Macbook retina? E.g. Using a mini-display cable to connect from the imac mini display port to thunderbolt port on my macbook.

Apple shows only the 27" version supporting Target Display Mode.

  • Whats the maximum resolution resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

whats the maximum resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

I don't know where you found 1920x1080, but that isn't the max. The INTERNAL display can even support more than that.
The maximum resolution is really hardware based, and since Thunderbolt 2 has a Mini displayport connector (Mini Displayport 1.2), the max resolution for Mini Displayport is 4k (3840x2160).
PLEASE NOTE: Not all adapters can support that resolution, most monitors that can run 4k @60Hz have Displayport 1.2 (The most recent revision), Mini Displayport 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. DVI dual link can run 4k, but only 24-30Hz, depending on the monitor.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Which is better for music production: macbook air or pro?

Which is better for music production: macbook air or pro?

The MacBook Pro has higher specifications, depending
on the model, and then CTO additional upgrades.
The Air does not have a Retina display, but has lesser
specs, so that may make a difference. They still offer a
    low-end MB/Pro w/ optical drive, w/o Retina; specs vary;
it may work in your instance. You'd have 14 days to take
a new Apple computer back, so keep that in mind.
    Good luck!

can I use the iMac Screen as an external screen for a PC laptop ?

iMac- How to use your iMac as a Target Display Mode display
Target Display Mode- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I am unaware of any PCs that support connection via Target Display Mode. I have never tried it myself, so I don't know if it would work. All you can do is try provided you have an iMac that supports TDM and the proper cable adaptors.

  • Can I use my iMac Screen as an external screen for my PC laptop

Can I use my iMac screen as an external screen for my PC laptop ?

Thanks for your reply. After reading the article though, I'm still not really sure what the answer is. For example, you mention something that can be done, with some hurdles to go through, for 27" iMacs. Mine is a 21.5" iMac, but seems to have the same port you mentioned in the article. Or maybe it isn't. Anyway, I'm still not sure if it is possible after reading that. Interesting information though.

  • Will there be an anti-glare screen for the new MacBook Pro?

will there be an anti-glare screen for the new MacBook Pro?

    Hi j,
Apple rarely announces upcoming hardware upgrades, so we'll probably just have to wait and see if that's something that happens in the future with the retina line. In the meantime, you can express your desire for one here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • IMac (2010) as external screen for Macbook Pro (2012)

I've been googling this for a few hours now and have only walked into walls.
My 21,5" iMac only has a FireWire, Mini DisplayPort and several USB ports and has the newest up to date software but is from mid 2010.
My 13" Macbook Pro only has a FireWire, Thunderbolt and several USB ports and has the newest up to date software but is from mid 2012.
It would be very interesting and useful for me to be able to use my iMac as an extra screen for my Macbook Pro, as all I do is video editing, photo editing, video grading etc.
All help or suggestions is welcome! Thank you!

In addition to Niel's post, this article might help you out. What you're looking to do is called "Target Display Mode." I would make sure to especially check the "requirements" section to make sure that your model will work for this.
