Which files - such as preferences - need to be backed up for Logic 7.2.1?

I'm trying to create Retrospect scripts to backup the important files of Logic that might need to be replaced if something goes wrong - such as the preferences.
Anyone have a list of these files and their locations?

Backed up for 7.2.1?
7.2.1 installer installs only Logic and the node. If you want to back up your prefs, do so. I trash them after updates.
From the man:
Saving of Song Settings and Preferences
The Song Settings are stored with the song file. If you want to start Logic with certain
settings, simply make the desired settings in your Autoload song or a Template.
The Preferences are saved whenever you quit Logic. There are several Preference files,
which are stored separately in the $/User/Library/Preferences folder. Logic preference
files all begin with “com.apple.Logic”.

Check this site for parts and prices:

You can always ask at the Genius Bar at your local Apple store, or inquire at an Authorized Apple Repair facility. The price usually depends on the age of your machine and the availability of the part.

  • WHAT TM FILES NEED TO BE BACKED UP FOR REDUNDANCY?

I have an Imac Duo with a 750gig internal. I have a 1TB external dedicated to Time Machine. Still concerned about losing data, I just purchased an additional 1TB external and was planing to backup the Time Machine drive using Deja Vu software. Do I have to backup the whole thing, mirror it or just the packet files? Not sure if I'm explaining this properly so basically, if anyone with a good redundancy plan can reply, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

External drives are great, but may not protect you in case of fire, theft, flood, or direct lightning strike on your power lines. Thus a secondary, off-site backup is excellent practice (and what I call "Prudent paranoia").
This can be as simple as copying some critical data to DVD/RWs and taking them to your safe deposit box, workplace, or a relative's house.
And/or, put relatively-small amounts of data online (to iDisk via MobileMe and Apple's Backup app, or other places via MOZY or the like.
And/or, getting a pair of portable hard drives and making full bootable "clones" via CarbonCopyCloner, SuperDuper, or the like, updating them daily if possible (perhaps at 3 am). Then periodically, say a week, swap them and take the current one off-site.

  • Do I need to do authority check for Logical Database?

    Hi,
Just to check, do I need to code authority check into a Logical Database or Logical Database will do the check by itself without me coding?
This is because I have a user which does not have rights to infotypes 2000 and above and the logical database still show the user data which belongs to the infotypes 2000 and above.
If I have to code it, how do I go about to do the coding of authority check?
Thanks in advance.  Will reward points for good solutions.
    Lawrence

    Let me give an example
    Tables : pernr.
    infotypes: 0000, 0001, 2001.
    Get pernr.
Do you mean that the 'get pernr' command will not return any data for users who do not have authorisation for infotype 2001?

  • Which files to save prior to formatting?

    Hi there!
I am going to format Windows 7 today and I would like to know which files and folders I need to save for one of my premiere pro projects to be able to re open it once Windows has been reinstalled?
Do I need the preview files and encoded files? Or do I just need to save my .prproj file and place all my video in the same directories after the reinstall?
    Thanks for your help!

    >two partitions
If all you do is keep STATIC copies on the 2nd partition... if you try to USE that 2nd partition for any video editing task... VERY bad idea!
One hard drive has one set of read/write heads, and actually using a partition during video editing... for anything at all... is a HUGE drain on the drive
My 3 hard drives are configured as... (WD = Western Digital)
    1 - 320G WD Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and video project files
3 - 1T WD all video files... input & output files
Search Microsoft to find out how to redirect your Windows swap file
    http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208?tstart=0 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433?tstart=0 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Encore needs Premiere to be there for speed

(using Premiere CS5, Windows 7 64-bit, Intel i7 quad core, 16 gigs of RAM)
I wanted to create a DVD from a two hour project and I launched Encore, new project, imported the Premiere projects timeline (Import As Timeline), filled in end action and alike, then started the build. It ran rather slowly, instead of using all of my cores it ran at avg. 30-40 %, and it peaked up to 90-100% only occasionally. In addition, it souped up almost all of my 16 gig ram. I couldn't hardly do anything else on my pc, very sluggish, delays of several seconds all over the place.
Now I launched Premiere, and I just let it show the start screen. Nothing more.  All of a sudden memory decreased down to 7-8 gigs and cpu went up to the ceiling!!  And .m2v file creation speed went up to avg. 500 KB/sec, rather than avg; 100 KB/sec before! And system back swift again.
Have a look at the task manager in the pic. The right half is from after starting Premiere.
So do you really need to have Premiere started up if you want to get some performance? Can't Encore do its job alone?
    Thanks,
    Andre
(replaced image by a better quality one)

Trying to use Encore well is a black art.  What always works well is creating a little menu and burning a bit of footage onto a dvd and done. That's what reviewers typically do and then they quote the product high. Well ... always working?  Make sure you always have plenty of disk space for cache files. With larger projects Encore writes tons of gigs of often redundant cache files and fails to clean up as should be, and if you don't take care and look at your disk before every burn then it might pop up with the following user friendly message when you least expect it (I call it candid encore) :
Adobe Encore has encountered an error.
       [..\..\Src\Win\WinFile.cpp-758]
If you press continue then you get:
operating system error: number = 0x00000020 - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
What is that number? Which file?  Oh, drop it, way too complex information for a dumb user like me and you.
After pressing ok then it tells you that your build has been cancelled.
The eventual cause appears to be not a file in use but rather not enough disk space.
I got that error sequence a few days ago on a final final final nightly build for delivery to the customer next morning, and I had to face the 758 message when I woke up. I missed the deadline.
The above just proves that the Encore product has NEVER EVER been seriously used and tested by their own development staff. On the contrary, I deem Premiere (the editing) very high quality code, it's really a piece of art given the rich functional complexity, I like it a lot - although it has also little quirks at times. But at least you can work around easily. But Encore is another story. Beautiful menu functionality, really, but don't you ever try to EDIT a menu and reburn. Poor you, you just arrived in the land of uncertainty and despair, the land of hangups and unexpected/cryptic/meaningless/wrong error messages. Can't trust Encore. My blood pressure raises as the time of burning the disc(s) comes near. The internet if full of workarounds (or try-to-workaround), mine is  to just fully rebuild the menu from scratch every time I want to change it. Takes time but at least it works.
Probably 95% of the Encore computer program code is fine, but 5% of it - the essential building and burning part - is plain crappy. I read numerous posts about it, most are older. Adobe just doesn't care.
Perhaps digressing a bit - but it's the truth about what I lived. So don't be amazed if with Encore something unexpected happens, for better or for worse.
Message to the Adobe Encore guys: please start playing around with your own stuff yourself!

  • I just updated to version 10 and wish to downgrade to version 9. None of my security software is compatible with 10. Where can I download version 9. Version 3.6, which is available on the website, is farther back than I want to go. Thank you.

You're better off with almost anything accept ZA and Kaspersky, they both are absolutely the worst security vendors at keeping up with Firefox updates this past year - each has had at least one Firefox add-on being many weeks or months behind Firefox's release schedule. It's almost like they don't know about the Firefox 18 week development process and they wait until their Firefox users complain about their crap not working with a newly released version of Firefox before they even think about doing their updates. IMO, the smart thing to do is to test the Nightly channel version (first 6 week alpha stage) for compatibility issues once a week to see what problems might exist with their software, and once the new version hits the Aurora channel (2nd 6 week alpha stage) start formulating a plan, schedule for what they need to be fixed and start fixing their stuff, while stepping up testing a bit. Once the new version hits the 6 week Beta channel they should be completing their fixes and expanding their testing to include combination's of the most popular add-ons being used by Firefox users so they can see any problems their users might run into and fix what needs to be fixed before the release of the new Firefox version.
One other thing that these security vendors could do is to have some of their customers do their Beta testing to find the faults and weak spots in their stuff, much like open source organizations like Mozilla does with Firefox. While I'm not a computer software professional, I have 3 different Nightly versions installed that I "test" a bit almost everyday for the simpler stuff, and the Aurora version, along with the Beta version. Over that last 6 or 7 years I have found 3 or4 pretty severe faults that I filed Bug reports about, one of which resulted in the developers providing a much sterner warning message about the risk of data loss and the other Bug reports helped the developers by making them aware of a potential problem early enough in the development that is wasn't hard to avoid the issue I pointed out to them with some minor coding changes.
Free or paid version, if these security companies are going to create and distribute a Firefox add-on the right thing to do is to keep it up to date with Firefox, or they should just discontinue the add-on and quit jerking us around with their irresponsibility and lackadaisical attitude toward Firefox. I honestly miss the "good old days" when these security companies ignored Firefox and only supported Internet Explorer.
I use Avira Personal Free - http://www.free-av.com/ - which doesn't feel the need to build add-ons for Firefox that really don't add anything to Firefox and only provide a "bells & whistles"version of something that is already built into Firefox. Good solid anti-virus protection that is updated twice daily.

It should work with the images side by side.
You can setup photoshop cc to be like photoshop cs2 was on your other mac, by going to Photoshop>Preferences>Interface and unchecking

  • Can you add an object which can be updated via a different file (such as a .xml ) ?

    Hi guys,
I want to create a flash application which I can upload to a website which could give details of dates, times etc.
The problem is I don't really want to keep re-making the application every time an event expires or a new event needs to be added, so is there a way to update a section of a flash application created in Catalyst CS5 via a callback (I think) file such as an xml? I've looked into Flash Builder but it looks incredibly complicated...
    Thanks in advance,
    Dale.

You can complete the layout in Fc but would need to open Flash Builder to connect a dataProvider (XML)
Here's an article on how to create an XML-based dataProvider: http://blog.flexexamples.com/2009/11/04/using-an-xml-data-provider-with-the-spark-list-con trol-in-flex-4/
