The general backup is described e.g. at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/ff/ff6c6f409f11d1896b0000e8322d00/frameset.htm.
If you only need to restore the database library (no system data, no directories, no kernel), then it is recommended to restore R3<sid>JRN before restoring R3<sid>DATA. If you restore R3<sid>DATA before R3<sid>JRN is there, then a journal receiver for journal QSQJRN is created in R3<sid>DATA rather than R3<sid>JRN. You can fix that later manually by creating a journal receiver in R3<sid>JRN and using the CHGJRN command, but it is easier if you restore R3<sid>JRN first.
If the backup of R3<sid>DATA was done at the same time as R3<sid>JRN, then you don't need to apply journalled changes. If you have more current backups of R3<sid>JRN, you can use the WRKJRN command to associate the restored receivers with the journal before applying journaled changes (see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/ff/ff6da7409f11d1896b0000e8322d00/content.htm).
Kind regards,

  • File restore after system crash?

I recorded several videos on my iPhone yesterday. One was 28 minutes long (almost 3 GB) so I deleted them from my phone as soon as I copied it into iPhoto. I was viewing the videos in iPhoto when my system crashed. After rebooting, the movies were gone.
Is there any way these movies can be recovered? They've got to be on the hard drive somewhere.

Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

  • File Vault restore after hard drive failure?

My MacBook Pro was working just fine, and Disk Uility never found any problems (I did a fresh install probably four months ago), then the MBP froze and wouldn't reboot after a forced shutdown. Disk Utility suddenly found massive amounts of errors, when launched from a system dvd, but couldn't save the disk. Instead of trying to get any further on my own, I'm now letting a data recovery company have a go. I'm still waiting to hear from them, but in anticipation of that I'm browsing the Apple Discussions for help, because the problem is that I was using File Vault protection on my laptop.
If the data recovery guys can't restore the disk to it's former glory (so that I can boot from the recovered disk and log into my File Vault protected user account), but are able to recover data from it, is there a way to get my files back?
I don't know anything about using the Terminal or the underlying technology behind File Vault.
Has anyone covered this topic somewhere? Is there some "how-to guide" for restoring a File Vault protected home folder into a new account on a new drive, or something to that effect?
I'm very grateful for any help on the subject.
    Thanks!
    m.

FileVault is an encrypted disk image which takes the place of your home folder, instead of having a basic "folder" be your home directory. This basically means that unless you have the password to unencrypt the contents then you'll not be able to get your files, which is very secure if you've got valuable data on the computer you dont want other folks to see (patents, etc). This essentially protects your intellectual property and personal information from theft. However, if something goes wrong with the disk image then all your data could be lost.
The most a data recovery company will be able to do is restore the contents of the drive to the point where hopefully the FileVault disk image is intact and can be opened. Without your password they will not be able to see the contents of the disk image, as all the contents will be garbled by the encryption algorithm. Hopefully they can recover the full disk image, but if not then you'll probably lose your data.
If you have a backup of your computer somewhere then you should be able to restore a backup copy of the filevault disk image. Did you have Time Machine enabled for your computer?

  • How can I do a Session Restore after a crash from a week or so ago (i.e. not most recent)

After a recent FF crash (Vsn 13.0.1 - I know) on the next start up it asked if I wanted to restore session, said yes - then realised all previous tabs were missing. Shut down and re-started nothing happened so checked Task List and found multiple versions (2) of FF in memory - ended those sessions.
Tried to rename/re-use sessionstore.js and sessionrestore.bak but didn't contain tabs wanted, so I need to know if there is a way to 'undelete' previous sessionrestore.js files and use the one from a week or so ago to restore the tabs from then? I presume the same renaming procedure is used - could someone direct me to the procedure to do this?
    Thanks.

I can find multiple (deleted) Sessionstore.js files with different dates and times in the n33mpvib.default folder, in 'good' condition. I have tried to save 1 from last week (to a different drive, E:) and then renamed sessionstore.js to *.old and copied in the recovered sessionstore.js from E: into n33mpvib.default folder, and restarted FF - didn't work.
I can see all the tabs I had previously opened in the History, but can't remember which were still open (active) at the time of the crash.
Is there something I am not doing correctly in the first paragraph procedure?

  • Unable to open a CS file in CS4 After Computer Crash

    Can anyone offer any help.
I was using my computer with my indesign CS files open, when the graphics card broke on the motherboard - I now have removed the Disk Drive and have it in a cradle attached to a new computer.
Trouble is I can not open the files on my new comp on CS4 - it states "The file is already open by another user or application, the file may be stored on a network server and can not be used until the user closes it"
I have made sure that all files on the old drive are available via the security tab to the new machine - I have also made sure each individual file is able to be used by the new comp.
It seems that the file is in use and I do not know how to resolve it. I have found references to the fact the file may be locked in the preference file but I do not seem able to locate it in a satisfactory way (if thats in fact the problem)
Its probably complicated as the crash occured on the other drive not the main drive where the CS4 software is located
    Can anyone offer any advice?
    Many thanks

ACTUALLY HERE IS THE FULL PROCESS:
    Prerequisites
Log on as an administratorYou must be logged on to Windows as an administrator in order to change security permissions for a file or a folder. If the computer is your personal computer, you are likely already logged on with an administrator account. If the computer is part of a network at work, you might have to ask the system administrator for help. To verify that you are logged on to Windows with a user account that is a computer administrator, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin
Start Windows XP Home Edition in safe modeIf you are running Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has administrative rights in order to access the Security tab. Access to the Security tab is required in order to change security permission. If you are running Windows XP Professional, you do not have to start the computer in safe mode. For more information about how to start Windows XP in safe mode, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
304449  How to start the System Restore tool at a command prompt in Windows XP
Disable Simple File Sharing in Windows XP ProfessionalIf you are using Windows XP Professional, you must disable Simple File Sharing. By default, Windows XP Professional uses Simple File Sharing when it is not joined to a domain. For additional information about how to do this, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
307874  How to disable simplified sharing and set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP
To take ownership of a file or a folder
How to take ownership of a fileYou must have ownership of a protected file in order to access it. If another user has restricted access and you are the computer administrator, you can access the file by taking ownership.
To take ownership of a file, follow these steps:
Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.
The administrator or the administrators group now owns the file.
To change the permissions on the file that you now own, follow these steps:
    Click Add.
In the Enter the object names to select (examples) list, type the user or group account that you want to have access to the file. For example, type Administrator.
    Click OK.
In the Group or user names list, click the account that you want, and then select the check boxes of the permissions that you want to assign that user.
When you are finished assigning permissions, click OK.
You can now access the file.

  • Restoring after Pages crash

I stepped away from my computer for a lunch break and came back to find a warning box indicating Pages closed due to an error (something about SFWordprocessing Plug-In failure). When I clicked on the name of the document I had been working on (in the "File:Open Recent" drop-down menu) the version from last night came up even though I had been periodically saving throughout the 3hr session I had been working on this morning.
I have a MacBook Pro on OX 10.5.6 and have Pages 08 3.0.3. I have located the crash log, but it means nothing to me. Is there any way I can recover the version of the file that existed at time of crash?
I did my best to remember all the editing and work I had done and saved under a new file name, but I'd really like to see if I can recover the work from the original file. I have not turned off my computer and other than initially re-opening Pages I have not since shut down Pages.
thanks for any suggestions or assistance

    fruhulda wrote:
Also have a look in Pages preferences. There you can mark "Backup previous version of saving".
This feature may be dangerous giving a wrong impression of safety.
It doesn't save a copy of the old version.
It simply renames the old file.
So, if you save only once after less than ten minutes of work on a document, it will be a a correct backup.
Alas, if you worked, say one hour and saved every ten minutes, the last 'previous version' is the last saved one which is not guaranteed to be a clean one.
So, you may perfectly discover that the two available versions are un-readable.
This is why my script keep datetimestamped consecutive versions.
With the described task we would find ourselves with
    myDoc.pages (the last saved)
    myDoc_20090505-160000.pages.zip
    myDoc_20090505-161000.pages.zip
    myDoc_20090505-162000.pages.zip
    myDoc_20090505-163000.pages.zip
    myDoc_20090505-164000.pages.zip
    myDoc_20090505-165000.pages.zip
and, assuming that the preceeding working session was dated 20090430 you will also have
    myDoc_20090430-191122.pages.zip
This one would be a zipped version of the one from which you started the today's session, it must be OK.
We may hope that some of the versions saved today are OK too.
Never delete such a file before checking that one of the more recent files is OK.
Safety has a cost but it's only too expensive before the crash !

  • Help locating rendered files for relinking after a crash.

I am working on an adobe premier pro project and my computer crashed yesterday. the project file no longer opens as it is asking where certain rendered files are located...  I do not know where premier is hiding them so when I hit skip or try to offline them the project tries to open and it freezes up. I was able to open an auto save file but now the project runs very very slowly... every click or action takes the computer about 2 minutes to respond and if I click while it is thinking... it crashes.
    HPZ400 workstation
    win 7
    CS5

Maybe a shot in the dark, but did you at anytime change your project scratch disk settings at any time. If not maybe have a look at the Default folder for scratch disk settings. Can't remember exactly where it is but it will be on your boot drive under user/ your name or failing that try relocating it by copying  the file asked for when PP loads and do a search on your entire machine. This may reveal something usefull like a location where stuff has been saved.
    Hope that helps.

  • Putting files on iPod after enabling for disk use.  How to?

I enabled my Nano for disk use, but don't know how to put files on it. An answer on how to ut files onto the iPod after it is enable to be a hard drive would be great.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I am not sure about how to put files with a PC, but with a Mac, I believe I can help. To put files on your iPod, your iPod should appear in Finder as a external disk drive. All you need to do is to drag the file into the iPod icon, as you would with an external hard drive. Syncing your Contacts (Address Book) or Calendar (iCal) is a little different. To sync Contacts and Calendar with your computer, Knowledge Base Document #301374 for Mac OS X and Knowledge Base Document #302270 for Windows. I had a hard time with syncing contacts and calendar with windows, because there are two different links.

  • Won't restore after update - firmware disk write error

I know there's been discussion about this one but I haven't seen an answer that works, and sending my out of warranty mini back for a $300 replacement doesn't appeal.
    - Agreed to update iTunes.
    - iPod hasn't worked since (exclamation point only)
    - Can't restore because I just get a firmware error.
    (have uninstalled, reinstalled etc etc)

    “Firmware Update Failure” Possible Solution
    -- Disconnect the iPod
-- Right click on "My Computer"
    -- Select "Manage"
    -- Select "Device Manager"
-- Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
-- Right click on "Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller"
    -- Click on "Disable"
-- Click "OK" to accept changes
Run the Updater software (Start==>Run==>iPod) and wait till it says to "Plug in an iPod to update it"
Plug in the iPod and wait (for a long while). It takes awhile because you are now running at USB 1.1 speeds. When it finally shows up, do the "update" or "restore", which ever you were trying to do.
You can try to re-enable the "Enhanced PCI TO USB Host controller" after you are done running the Updater software and try to copy your songs and pictures to the iPod. This may or may not work. If not, revert back to USB1.1.

  • IPhone unable to restore after sudden crash

    Hello everybody,
Today, my iPhone suddenly crashed. I was using fine all morning, sending messages, browsing the web and whatnot. But then all of a sudden my phone crashed. Then I tried to reboot my phone, but it just went into a constant boot-loop. I tried plugging my phone into the wall charger, it booted and said I had to connect it to my iTunes. I did that, and it just constantly rebooted. I managed to get it into DFU mode and tried to do a restore from Apple. It went to verify the software, then it just rebooted again and gave me the error saying it cannot be restored (Error 2001). I tried downloading the offical firmware and doing a custom restore, but that failed also. I have an iPhone 3GS on the latest offical/unjailbroken firmware (5.0.1).
Does anybody know what's going on?

I have an iphone4s, the update downloaded to my Macbook Air but the install to the phone failed and it reset the phone to factory defaults (wiped it).   I'm having problems getting it to restore from the backup as well.

  • I lost all my playlists. Which file do I have to restore in Time machine?

While being busy adjusting song info and album illustrations of some songs, all at once I notice that all my playlists have gone. I restarted the computer (stupid enough, now cmd-Z won't help) but they are gone. All the music is still there. I try to restore the playlists using Time Machine but don't know which file to restore.

Allready solved: I accidentally touched the button "hide" that appears when you're on Playlists....

Do you recall what you did? if you remove an extension through the Add-ons page or use Firefox's Reset feature, normally your passwords are preserved. Not sure what else would have been recommended.

The crash is in the library libFoundation_6_0.so in the method ZNK5viidy11IdRecordImp12getBioRecordENS8ModalityENS_8InstanceEb+0x47
I suggest you contact the vendor for this library and get support from them.
If the problem is repeatable, you can attach a gdb debugger and see where the fault occurs though you may need the source for this library to make any sense of it.

  • After HD crash, restoring to new HD. Library files missing or corrupt. How can I get iTunes 10 to see my music

The hard drive on my fairly new HP Pavilion desktop died hard on boot-up. HP replaced the drive the next day.  Used the Recovery Disks and got the unit up and running. I have been using Memeo Premium Backup and never did get any error messages during backup.  When I went to restore the data, much of it is missing or corrupt. In the Restore data on the backup drive, I can see many folders but only a few have data.  I opened a ticket with Memeo and after they made a few useless comments, they closed the ticket.
Fortunately, most of my iTunes data (folders and files) were restored in-tact.  The exceptions were the library files, which are missing. The library files in the Previous Itunes Library folder were corrupted.  I installed iTunes 10, but there are no songs, podcasts, etc, in it.  I have tried every article in the knowledgebase and tried to fix the ITL and XML files, but it is hopeless. Also, when iTunes is running, at the top it shows .iTunes Preferences.plist.  So, I have a disaster and about 10 gb of music going nowhere.  Any ideas?  I would really appreciate any help I can get.
    Brad

They are all mostly the same size at around 6MB but there are a couple that are very large 55MB (including the 30 tmp file I mentioned above.  There is also one around 7KB).  I tried renaming the most recent (as of 8:30PM last night)  tmp file as iTunes Library.itl but when I launch iTunes, I get the "The file 'iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" popup.
But when I go into a directory I created to get the most recent itl file I've been saving as a backup and copy it into the iTunes directory to replace the one that I tried to make with the tmp file, and launch iTunes, my whole library loads with no problem.
However, if history repeats itself, this will work for at most a couple of days before I have to copy the saved itl file back into the iTunes directory.

  • After a crash of my HD, i need to restore my Itune Library which is in an external HD. how can I do that, Thanks

After a crash of my HD, i need to restore my Itune Library which is in an external HD. how can I do that, Thanks

I still don't know if the drive that crashed was the external drive, or if it was the internal drive, and if it was the external drive if that was the only copy of the library.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • Backed up files partially disappear after restore (Windows Server 2008 R2 - Windows Server Backup)

    Dear all,
I am experiencing a problem with "Windows Server 2008 R2", using Windows Server Backup.
    Here's my setup:
    Server: RAID 5 Disk setup
    Backup:
By using Windows Server Backup (within Windows Server 2008 R2), C: and D: were fully backed up, with "System State" and "Baremetal Recovery" options selected. Backup went okay without any errors.
    Restore:
By using Windows Recovery Environment  (booted from Windows Server DVD), C: and D: were fully restored to the original partitions with "System Recovery" option found within Windows RE (without re-formatting partitions during restore). Restore
went OK without any errors. Rebooted, and system has been running fine.
    Problem:
After the restore, the system itself seems running OK; no BSOD, no crash, no visible errors.
However, our client insisted some files (around 6 to 7) which are related to the propriety software has "disappeared" right after System Recovery.
    Question:
Since Windows Server Backup is using "Volume Shadow Copy" technology which enables "live backup" of the running system, is it possible that some files will disappear (=restore error) after
    System Recovery?
I cannot really find any errors or warnings related to Windows Server Backup in the event log, through. No Windows-backup errors. No VSS errors, too.
Do anybody have experienced this kind of problem in the past?  Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply, Ms. Mandy.
To make things clear, let me explain to you briefly:
    1. The "missing data" was backed up with "full system backup".
    2. After a system restore from the above backup image, as you mentioned, partitions has been overwritten with the partions' backup data in the Backup Data Set taken by Windows Server Backup. No error with backup. No error after restore, and reboot - system
    has been running fine.
    3. Although there was a report that the affected files(about 7 java exectables) were missing after the above restore operation, other aspect of system was running fine at the time of the report.
    4. I have checked the original backup data set - and voila, there ARE files which seems to gone after restore.
    5. When I used Windows Server Backup "on" Windows Server 2008 R2 normal environment (= NOT Recovery environment from DVD) and selectd ONLY these affected files to restore, these files could be RESTORED successfully, without any errors. SO... data
    was property backed up.
    > The recovery will overwrite the partitions so files created after the backup point will be missing.
I understand, and this is not the case this time, because the affected files are already present in the backup data set (= I have mounted the backup data as VHD, and I could clearly see them present in the mounted VHD file)
Plus, these files are completely restoreable via "selective file restore" in Windows Server Backup.
    Things I want to know/confirm:
    > The recovery will overwrite the partitions
If I understand this correctly, in case that the files in question are already present in the backup data set, these files SHOULD be restored after full system restore, right? (If these files could not be restored, Windows Server Backup SHOULD show some errors.)
What do you think, Ms. Mandy? :)
    Jo
