I think you'll find that most popular application servers support it. At least JBoss and Weblogic do.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

I've had a look at the TC settings dialog and tried to keep it as simple as possible. I also had a copy of LR 4 on the hard drive so have trashed that also incase of any conflicts. LR seems to be running ok now but as said it's an intermittent problem.
I also have a copy of Capture One on the hard drive so am going to uninstall that also in case it is trying to launch.

Which process/application is requesting 'elevated privileges'?

Every hour or so, I get a pop-up screen that asks for an administrator password and tells me:
"Elevated privileges are required in order to complete installation. Type an administrator's name and password to allow this.", see screenshot below.
The pop-up is not embedded in a full application, so I cannot see in the upper left corner which application is responsible. Needless to say, I would like to understand which application/process is requesting this before providing these details. Restarting my laptop does not resolve this issue. Removing all Login Items and restarting my laptop does not resolve it either. It keeps coming back.
How can I find out which process/application is responsible? How can I remove this issue?

I just upgraded Picasa (had not done that in a while) via Google Software Update and indeed as part of this process I was presented an identical screen to provide credentials.
I'll keep an extra look at these applications. If this problem keeps recurring I will try removing them. Hypothesis to explore that this popup only comes up if a specific Google application is not on the latest version.

Lightbeam will give you an idea of what server connections are active to see any backdoor connections. In regards to snooping around, stealth mode sounds like it will remove all history and cookies.

Firewall application

Hi I am looking at developing a firewall application for Tiger/Leopard and wanted to know if it was possible without using the existing ipfw?

This is certainly do-able. ipfw is simply the stock firewall application that comes with the system. Replacement of distribution standard apps is fairly common in *nix environments - like replacing ipfw with ipf or vice-versa.

Alot of "firewalls" are simply different front ends for ipfw but theirs is a separate program.
All that being said you'd need a fairly deep *nix programming background to dig into the internals like networking and also to make a deployable application. But even if you don't quite have that everyone has to start somewhere. One of the things about *nix programming is that there is usually an open source example you can look at while you're learning. (But careful about the license restrictions of any code you copy.)

We have problem with standart Sun Application Server Configuration on Linux.
Even AdminGui application doesn't work properly.
Some times, AdminGui application returns

Some time on browser we have "The page can not be displayed" exception and so on.

As you already noticed, RH Linux 8.0 and 9.0 are not on the list of officially supported platforms for Application Server 8.1, but you should still be able to install and run on those Linux versions without major issues.
Follow generic Linux installation instructions, if you do run into some problems take a look at this article which describes some common workarounds, specifically section titled "Problem: My Linux distribution is not on the list of officially supported platforms for J2EE 1.4 SDK":

(K)ubuntu is a very good (free) distribution. Your hardware will be well recognized.
You can try it with the live CD ("desktop" version) and install it if you're satisfied.
Note that a live CD does not provides full power of any distribution : Jayjay knows that too...

http://fedora.redhat.com/ is probably the easiest distro to use for Oracle. There is a lot of documentation for it, and everything seems to work very nicely (on Fedora Core 4 at least -- I've only used XE on FC5).
Another distro that a lot of people have been happy with is SuSE linux (http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org). This seems to work well also, and has moderate resources in terms of documentation for Oracle.
Yet another common distro is Ubuntu / Kubuntu (http://www.kubuntu.org/). I'm not sure how much tweaking you have to do to get it to work, but it also has a fairly active community and documentation.
In terms of getting things to work the first time without hitches, use Fedora. If you want to have a little bit more control over your systems, use SuSE or Kubuntu. They each have their advantages.
Also, when first using Linux, choose your desktop environment wisely (unless this is a server). I like KDE and I hate using Gnome, but a few of my closest friends would disagree. It all depends on what you like and what you're used to. Tweak it to your liking.

How to find out the position in which an application hangs

Hi,
is there any possibility to find out the position in a source, in which a deployed application hangs?
For example, there is an endless loop in an application, which is already deployed. In runtime the application hangs in this loop. How can I findout in which line the application hangs?
In other words, how can I see the stack of a certain process,for example, http_workerx?

Hi Ali,
With SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (CE) 7.1 SP3 it is very easy.
1.) Open the SAP Management Console
2.) Go to AS Java Threads tree node - you will see all the threads that are currently started on the system
3.) Check for threads that are colored in red - it takes about 30 sec the system to detect that an HTTP thread (http_workerx), as it is in your case, is hanging/executing endless loop.
4.) Right click on the hanging thread (colored in red) and pick 'Callstack' from the pop-up menu
5.) In the new window you will see the stack-trace showing what exactly this hanging thread is doing at the moment.
With the previous versions (or SPs) you need to apply a little bit more technical skills for the same result. (1) you need to do produce thread dump of the server that is suspected to have hanging thread and (2) to analyze this thread dump (check what the threads in Running state are doing). As it is in your case with the HTTP worker threads, their names are also printed in the thread dump, so you can focus only on them.

How to determine which Windows application has focus

I'm new to JAVA and new to programming. I hope someone will help me out. I'm trying to write a simple JLink program (JLink is a JAVA API for Pro|Engineer, a CAD design program). In part of this program I need to determine if Pro|E has focus. Is there some way to use JAVA to determine which actively running Windows application has focus?
I basically want my program to pause when focus changes to another program. For example: While Pro|E is active and has focus the program runs, when I select an Excel window, or Outlook, or Notepad or any other window my program will pause until focus is returned. I just need to determine which window within Windows has focus.
I hope I have explained this properly. I searched the internet for an answer but found nothing. I did come across some references to JNI, but I'm not sure what that is or how to use it.

If it doesn't, then some other application does, but it's really irrelevant which one does. All that's relevant is that your application doesn't have the focus and hence it should pause.
