Which **** font is scrambling in Entourage?

Hi,
I was using an old version of Microsoft Office (2001) on MacOs X 10.3.9 and recently upgraded to version 2004. As a result, a lot of the Office fonts seem to have been double-installed: I have duplicates of things like Trebuchet, Verdana, Arial, etc. (all the default Windows fonts, it seems).
This morning, while trying to solve a different problem, I resolved the duplicates of all my fonts using FontBook. Now, when I open Entourage (part of Office 2004), the fonts in some bits of the interface are scrambled.
I've tried switching all of the Windows-style fonts I can think of back on in FontBook, and thinking to **** with the duplicates, but this has not solved the problem.
Do I have to plod through all of my disabled fonts one by one to find the one Entourage is trying to use, or can someone tell me which font(s) to enable to stop the Entourage interface screwing up? It's the interface, not the display fonts (playing with the display fonts in the Entourage preferences doesn't seem to help).
BTW this doesn't seem to happen with other OS apps, or even other Office apps. The strangest part is that the fonts in the Entourage splash screen are screwed, whereas the fonts in the other Office application splash screens aren't.
Thanks for any help,
Zoe

Don't just resolve the conflicts in Font Book, look in the various Fonts folders and remove any duplicate fonts. The locations are:
/System/Library/Fonts/
/Library/Fonts/
~/Library/Fonts/ (the Fonts folder in your home user folder)
There shouldn't be any in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder. But if there are, remove those first. You will need to use your administrative password to remove fonts from that folder. DO NOT remove everything from this folder. Some of the fonts in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder are critical to OS X. If you empty that folder, OS X will not run and your Mac will not boot. Remove only those fonts that are duplicates of same name fonts in the other two Fonts folders.
Not sure what you mean by "Windows-style fonts". Mac versions of Office don't install PC TrueType fonts.
Once you have removed all duplicates from the Fonts folders, delete the Office font cache. It's in the Preferences folder of your user account in a sub folder named Microsoft. Remove the file "Office Font Cache (11)".
Launch Entourage and see if things are working correctly. If not remove Entourage from the hard drive and reinstall from the original CD. If that still doesn't help, then clean the system font caches with Font Finagler.
Edit: Yeah, and what Tom said.

  • Let me choose which font(s) to substitute when opening an Adobe Illustrator (CS5) file

    Hello!
I have an illustrator Windows file, created by someone else, and one font is missing.
When I open the file, Illustrator says a font is missing and it will substitute the missing font.
How can I tell Illustrator to use a specific font instead of Illustrator automatically making that decision for me?
    Thanks!
    Rowby

    Rowby,
I am afraid it is impossible.
You will need to see which font it is substituted by, and then you may change it with Type>Find Font.

  • Which font supports the blackboard bold math symbols?

Simple question: I'd like to use the blackboard bold symbols for real numbers, natural numbers etc. Which font on the Mac has these and how do I get them in my text, e.g. in TextEdit?

Okay. I was just going by what 99.9% of the world's population would consider a blackboard.
Even looking for "blackboard font" in Google only leads you to various fonts which look like they were hand written on a chalkboard. Much like the one I linked to above.
What you want is referred to as an outline font. I know I have the font you linked to on Wikipedia, and quite a few others much like it, but I don't have the time to dig and see which ones they are right now.
However, a quick look an Adobe's site shows that Monotype Old Style Outline Bold is close to what you're looking for. Main search page if you want to look for others.

  • Which font type is this?

    Hello,
I am trying to work out which font type this web page uses on
    the text "Atlantis".

If somebody could tell me which one this is that would be
    great.
NB: The website is for a strip club so it is probably better
that you don't open this at work.
    Thank you.

  • Which font, please?

    Hello
I would like to ask those, who may have an eye for fonts, which font this is, please:
    http://stevehigham59.7host.com/fontQ/Font_issue.html
Each image shows, I think, the same font.
    Many thanks.
    Steve

You can buy a single weight of the font for $29 from Adobe, or the entire family of 10 fonts for $281 here:
    http://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&event=displayFontPackage &code=1760
You might be able to find a clone online, but be very careful. Some online free fonts will break Photoshop (not irreparably, but sometimes you have to spend quite a bit of time putting it back to normal).
Also look for it under the clone name of Microgamma

  • Which fonts does CS6 require to run?

My list of active system fonts is enormous. InDesign, Illustrator, etc., require certain fonts to run properly. I don't know which are ABSOLUTELY required. I tried guessing, and I failed, miserably.
My question is: which fonts can be safely deactivated… or better, still, which are needed?
Or where can I find out. I do use Suitcase Fusion, which gives me control ove OSX fonts.
    I do use a Mac running OS X 10.8.4.

    Two options.
One is to "BootCamp".  You alter th boot sector of the Mac, and make a partition of the disk that will essentially be a Windows system.  You can boot into it, but not run both Mac and Windows at the same time.  But at least it uses all of the RAM available.
Virtual machine (VM).  A program allows Windows to run in a controlled environment.  You run OSX and start Windows as a "sub system", sharing RAM between.  But at least no changes are made to the boot sector.
So do you need full RAM access to run your Windows programs and are OK with altering the system?
Or do you want a clean "install Windows into a sub environment" and share RAM?
Either way you need a legal and full-install copy of Windows to do it.

  • How can I tell which fonts come with a program?

It seems as if every program you get has its own set of fonts.  Now that Rosetta no longer works under lion I have some old programs I want to uninstall.  Also, there are other fonts from programs I know I will never use so I just would like to find out which font goes with which program.  Thanks!!

The half hearted warning is it as far as I know.
I suggest when you get a chance, load up copies of all the fonts the office uses so he is covered whatever you land on his desk.

  • Which font does the Dictionary app use?

I've got a new Mac Pro, and the font for the Dictionary app is incorrect - it's a sans serif, and pretty ugly, whereas before it was a much more attractive serif font. I did a clean install, so unless I've got a corrupted font, there's no reason why this should happen. Does anyone know which font the Dictionary app should use?
    Thanks,
    Kirk
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi, Kirk.
On my Mac, the primary font for Dictionary is the Baskerville family of fonts, which are serif fonts. The font itself is the Baskerville.dfont file in the Macintosh HD > LIbrary > Fonts directory. It also employs Helvetica Neue, a sans-serif font, for some elements of definitions.
Dictionary does not have a preference for changing the default font, just the font size. The actual specification of Baskerville is done in the Default.csss file for Dictionary, in the Resources subfolder of the Contents folder of the Dictionary.app bundle (Control-click Dictionary and select "Show Package Contents"). Dictionary is actually a stripped-down Web browser and its documents are formatted in HTML. The Default.css file is the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) used for formatting the appearance of Dictionary definitions, including the fonts to use by default.
If you don't have the fonts specified in its CSS, it would substitute other fonts.
    Good luck!

  • Which fonts, themes, transitions etc are safe for Keynote

Is there an explicit list of which fonts, which transitions, which themes, etc are iPad-safe?
I would like to be able to make importable presentations without having to go through many iterations of trial and error.

    Bill:
Found this site with iPad font information: Fonts for iPad & iPhone. The Keynote for iPad page says that it has over 40 fonts which seems to support that the linked sites indicates, 43 fonts.

  • Which fonts come with Acrobat 8?

Could someone supply me with the list of fonts that come with Acrobat 8? (I can't for the life of me find this information anywhere on the adobe site, or the forum, even though it's reasonably essential product information). I'd also like to know if there are any fonts in that list that may not be used commercially when one buys Acrobat 8.
I realise Acrobat 9 is out, but it offers no functionality that I need that isn't found in acrobat 8, and with stores trying to get rid of their last versions 8, it's a lot cheaper.
    - Mike Kamermans

mostly based on a reply to a font licensing question from adobe's side. I want to use Kozuka Mincho Pro in a book, and they informed me that it would be most economically sensible to buy a product that it comes bundled with like photoshop or acrobat. However, I'd like to know which version of the font I would be buying depending on which product. For photoshop it looks like CS3 is good enough, but for acrobat (which they indicated should also work) there does not appear to be a known fonts list (it does come with some fonts, and there's an asian font pack that can be downloaded for it, but no information on which versions of which fonts).

  • How can I find which font is used inside a PNG?

    Hi,
When I started my company, I had a company logo and website designed for me by another company.  This company doesn't exist anymore and all I have left are the source files of my logo and website.  They delivered me the logo in PNG format.  I am trying to make different sizes and shapes of my logo, but when I open the PNG file in Fireworks (CS5), it says that the font is missing, so whether I want to replace the font or keep appearance.  How can I find out which font was used in the original PNG file?  When I select the text, the font selection box is empty, so I cannot see which font was originally used...
    Thx,
    Steven

    Hi Linda,
I tried it and you are right.  I kept trying to preserve the appearance.  Never tried the replace fonts option!
Thank you very much for your help!!

  • Which font?

I'm starting a new help project and I'm wondering which font
type to use. I have always used Arial and although I 'know' that
wider fonts such as Verdana are supposed to be easier to read, I
can't help feeling that I prefer Arial.
    What do you use?

Thanks Colum - I agree about font sets - only discovered them
    a few weeks ago
but then as you say, it wouldn't have mattered
anyway as I've always used Arial.
Brian - great minds think alike - that's exactly what I've
been doing this afternoon! Yes, very excited about new project - it
has been needed for a while and it's always nice starting afresh.
This is all extremely useful - this job can be a bit lonely
    at times

  • Does anyone know which font this is?

Does anyone know which font the word Compton is written in?

A good site to help you identify fonts is:  www.whatthefont.com
You'll have to cut the font you want it to check out so that it's in an image by itself.
