Which format should I have the camera men send me for editing in HD?
Hello All,
Thank you in advance for all help. I have a Mac G4 with dual processor, 2gb mem, FCEHD 3.0, 500GB external hard disk and Canon GL2.
I have been editing fine with this setup for quite some time and am very pleased. I now have a client that will be sending me concert tour footage (3 cameras) from each city. My question is, what will I need to get this done? I would like several recommendations from different editors if possible?
If it will be too costly to do this, what are your recommendations? Thank you again, MilliMac

With FCE 3.0 the only formats for direct capture in FCE are either DV or HDV. Your GL2 is only a DV format camera, so if you are going to use your GL2 to capture tapes that your client sends you, they should shoot in DV, not HDV. Further, make sure your client shoots in 480i60 (NTSC interlaced) not 480p30 (progressive). Depending on their camera they may or may not have an option to select progressive mode, but you should make sure to tell them that you need NTSC DV, interlaced. That should be enough information for them.
The GL2 can also shoot/play anamorphic so you could get 16:9 video if your client can shoot DV Anamorphic. (Keep in mind that is simply 16:9 aspect ratio, it is not HD or HDV video). However this can be a tricky area unless the same camera model is used for both the shoot and the FCE capture.
If for some reason they intend to send you HDV material you will either need an HDV camera yourself in order to capture the tapes in FCE, or some alternate means to import the video to your Mac plus convert it to Apple Intermediate Codec before importing it into FCE (vs capturing it in FCE). MPEG Streamclip is a great utility for doing the conversion but it adds extra steps between the tape and being able to edit the video in FCE.

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's" after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?
DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now? -
Hi All, I recently bought a Mac Book Pro and transferred all my photos from my hard drive onto the Mac. I realised that there were some folders which didn't have the camera information embedded in the files and these files refuse to open on iPhoto. I know that the folders that have the problem were not transferred to the hard drive via a photo transfer application (I have a Canon camera) but I simply copied them out of the photo card and onto my old PC.
Is there some way I can open these pictures on my Mac? They work fine on a PC.Thanks for your reply.
The files don't open in preview either. In preview I get the error message 'The file "xxxx_xxx.jpg" could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize'. The folders with these un-openable pictures do not even get imported into iPhoto. When I try to import them I get an error message about the files being unreadable.
The color profile information on the un-openable files is not visible but I see that all the other files from my old drive are RGB. -
In order to install IOS7 on my 4S, I need more storage of 3.1GB and presently have only 1.3 GB. My biggest usage is the camera roll at 9.8GB. Photo stream is at 584 MB. My question is -should I delete the camera roll pics? They are saved on my computer.
At 1.3GB available, your storage space is getting very thin no matter what you do further. As long as you have the photo's in the camera roll saved on your computer you can delete them. Just make sure first that they are in your photo software. If updating in iTunes, just backup/sync first, then update, and that will save the camera roll in the backup as well.
At only 1.3GB you eventually are going to find yourself unable to install or update some app, or unable to take any new pictures, or some other limitation that will force you to free up space anyway. So now, before updating, sounds like a good time to make sure everything is backed up or stored somewhere else, and clean house a bit, then update. -
I am using referenced images, saved on an external hard drive. It would be most helpful to transfer the new captions (version name) to the referenced images which still have the camera code on them. How can this be done? Thanks so much!
You're question is hard to follow. Are you looking to rename your master files to the version name? Or are you looking to do something with IPTC caption field and the masters?

my iPhone 4s keeps showing more space being used for photos than i have -
i have deleted cache folders, unselect and reselect in iTunes I read one post
where they said keep syncing and in a couple days it would correct itself, that
hasnt happened. I have see others have the same issue but no solution and nothing
appears to work my iPhone still shows 6.5 gig use of photos when i only have the camera roll listedi thought the photo stream only holds 1000 i usuaaly take each month and save them to iphoto but if thats the my ipad should say the same amount and it doesnt - it shows 2.5 gig which is correct for iphoto. and i havent ever had that much but if for some reason icloud has that much saved how do i delete and again if it does why doesnt ipad show that amount _ HELP!

I rented a Nikon D600 & D610 and CS5 cannot open the RAW files, i do not have any issued with my D700 RAW files. I am getting this error message -
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.

The error message you gave is from Camera Raw. I thought you said that DNG Converter didn't work?
The link I gave you is an article on getting your raw files to open in Camera Raw. Did you read it? I lazily gave you the link because this is one of the most common problems in this forum, and I get tired of saying the same thing over and over again. I could break it down for your specific case, but I was hoping you could read through the article and work it out for yourself.
But, here goes:
Your cameras are newer than your raw converter, so it won't understand them.
CS5 comes with Camera Raw 6, which can only be upgraded as far as 6.7.1. You can find out which version of Camera Raw you are running in three ways: in the settings title bar (Cmd-K), in the plug-in title bar (press F to start/stop full-screen mode to reveal the title bar), or Photoshop's Help menu (About Plug-ins).
Downloading raw files from newer Nikon cameras with old versions of Nikon Transfer will actually make them unreadable in Adobe software. They can be fixed with a free utility. Again, it's all in the linked article. You should be using up-to-date Nikon Transfer, or Adobe Photodownloader to avoid this problem.
All being well, you have good raw files on your computer. You can convert them to dng using Adobe DNG Converter. IF you are on OSX Leopard or Snow Leopard, you CAN'T use the latest version, because Adobe stopped support. But, if you ARE on a later OSX, you can download DNG Converter 8.6.
DNG Converter is designed to convert FOLDERS of raw files at a time. You select a folder of raw files, and tell it to create DNG copies. BUT, you have to set up the converter before you start using it...
If you load up DNG Converter, you'll notice a button labelled "Change Preferences". Clicking this, you'll see the first option is "Compatibility". Here, you must select the appropriate setting for the version of Camera Raw you HAVE (see above). If you can't work this out, just pick "Camera Raw 5.4 and later". THEN pick a folder of raw files and convert them to DNGs.
All the above is already in the article, but I gave you a personalised response. If you still can't get it to work, please give us more than one sentence. Tell us exactly what you tried, and describe exactly what happened. Which version of OSX you're running, what device and software you downloaded your raw files with, how you used DNG Converter, and so on.

Where should I have the create table
I am making an application which it has a customer, an order and a food objects.
I know that I can do it in one class (which will have main inside) but I am trying to make it as object oriented..
so.. I have to make a class for a customer, a class for food, and I will handle all this in another class which will have main method..
am I right up to here??
if yes I was now wondering where should I have the sql statment about creating the table.. my thought is to have it at the constructor so when I will make a customer object the table will be created..
then I will have an add_data(d1,d2,d3,d4....) method where I will insert the data to my database for each customer.. actually only one time I will make a customer object from main and then through this I will call add_data() method to add customers to my database..
Am i thinking right or I am too far away from what I must do...?
ThxDoesn't particularily matter given that the application is small.
However in larger applications the database is created outside of the application usually using a SQL script. -
Which setting should I have my apple tv set for picture resolution/quality as it can take a whole day to download a movie before we can watch it??
The video/audio display settings should set automatically for the best your TV can handle (720p AppleTV2, 1080p AppleTV3).
The download resolution for rentals or playback of purchases from the cloud is set in settings for iTunes store.
Sounds as though you have slow internet. For near instant streaming of video from iTunes store you need around:
Standard Definition 2.5 Mbps
720p HD 6 Mbps
1080p HD 8 Mbps
Any slower for a given quality setting and the movie has to buffer as it can't keep up in real time. This might be a few minutes if close to the rated speed or many hours, even overnight.
As pcd251s suggests you could test internet speed (speedtest.net on a computer for example). If that is fine, sometimes the LAN if on wifi can be extremely slow in certain locations - ethernet connections would troubleshoot that.
Slow internet is the common issue here. AppleTV does not have permanent storage and using it to play other content or browse trailers while a rental is buffering can reset the buffering process. In such cases you might be better off planning in advance, renting in iTunes, letting the whole thing FULLY download and it will then be available across teh LAN to stream from computer to AppleTV under Computers>iTunes library name>Rentals.

Just like I noticed another person had an issue with, after updating my phone, which took a full day, I not longer have the camera or photos. I have tried turning off n turning back on my phone and that doesn't do anything. My fiancé has the same phone and his update with smoothly in about 2 hours and has his camera and everything still there. With his update going perfectly I figured mine would to and didn't save my photos to my Skydrive. I have a 6 month old son and all my photos of him since birth are gone. Is there any way to get the camera and photos back on there.?
My camera icon is gone. The photos/ gallery button/folder is gone. When I go to text somebody and click to add an attachment the picture option is there but then when I press it nothing happens. When I press the bottom side button that used to go to the camera- that doesn't do anything.

I have two children each with an ipod which has FaceTime - I have the iphone 4s with FaceTime. All of these devices are connected to itunes through the one account. How do I set up the FaceTime on the two ipods so as it doesn't ring both of them?
I started to do that then it said that this will become their apple I.D or similar and then I thought that will disconnect them from the same iTunes? I want them still on my iTunes as they are only young (8 and 10)? Or have I got this all wrong and even if I do set them up with a different e-mail will they still be on my itunes? Someone told me that the text item is dummy and should be used as a manual of certain standard item. But the manual may be a book or several papers and it also takes up some inventory not a dummy.
So, could some body tell me what the text item (TATX) exact is and what function it has.

After the update to the Apple TV, it will not work - It puts up a symbol to connect to the Icloud - which I do not have the cable for or know what it means or why -

Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
If when you choose restore you get a message that the device cannot be found, download the file below
