Which Hard Drives to get

Hi, I had a look around the forum and found some interesting posts but as things tend to change often thought I should start a new thread.
I have a RAID 0 array with two Seagate Barracuda drives and one seems to of died (after under 2 years).  Some research indicates these drives were probably not a good choose and Western Digital produce the most reliable drives (well this seems to be the consensus in what look like well written/researched articles).
I was going to get the WE Red but am not sure if they are 72000 spin speed.  The other options seems to be the Black and the SE (whatever SE stands for).  These come with 5 years warrente which is encoring.  If the Red are 72000 I would go for these but if not which others should I go for.
Regards,
Ben

The WD Red is 5400 rpm - stay away from them except for storing photographs or spreadsheets. They work fine, just not for video editing.
Go for the Black.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

I have two hard drives on my G5(2004). How do I get to choose which hard drive is the start up disk when I turn on the computer? Is it the shift key I hold down?

depending on which model of G5 and  OS installed will depend on whether a key command will work
    alt   at start up may  work, if it does not, use the start up disc setting in;
apple menu > system preferences > system  > start up disc
of course, the second drive must have a compatible OS installed for it to be able to boot.

  • Which hard drives can I put in my 120gb ipod classic? 30gb, 60gb, 80gb or only a 120gb?

which hard drives can I put in my 120gb ipod classic? 30gb, 60gb, 80gb or only a 120gb?

Physically, the small capacity hardisk (60,80) are thicker at 8mm,
while the 120gb is thinner at 5mm,
    there are some thin hardrive 30 GB (MK3006GAL), 60GB (MK6015GAL) and 80GB (MK8022GAA).
The firmware 2.0 should be able to handle upto 160GB.hardrive.
However the difficulty, is opening the iPod case, and getting the thin hardrive or else your iPod case wont close, better stick to 120GB.

Bought new Mac Retina; how do I get CS 5 on it; bought external hard drive but get error msg 15?

    Hi there,
I was able to format the Toshiba hard drive on my old Mac and copy the Adobe Suite onto it. I followed instructions to format the hard drive to the Retina Mac through Disk Utility, but I still can see the external drive on the new Mac.
    Any suggestions…?

I tried copying the files on the program disc to my hard drive but get a message the installer will not work. I have the redemption code and serial numbers. Can I download the program online somewhere? If I download a trial version for instance will it allow me to enter my serial number and use it for the full program?

  • Which hard drive do you recommend macbook pro mid 2009

Which hard drive does Apple recommend as a replacement for the MacBook Pro Mid 2009??

    I have a MacBook Pro (2009):
    Model Identifier MacBookPro5,4
I tried severa Hard Drives, and none of them works, apparently there is a problem with the EFI firmware of the controler. This is what one of the support guys from Hitachi told me.
Apparently, the controler only handle STA I and it does not support SATA II, although the last firmware fore this MacBook pro (EFI Firmware update 1.7) says that it support SATA II. I am not sure if all of this is correct. But I will like some advice which Hard Drive will work whith this computer.
    Thanks

Was the error gone when you turned off the Bitlocker from this drive?

  • Which hard drive is the best?

I was thinking about replacing the hard drive and the combo drive with something better.
Which hard drive is the best? Is it the Western Digital? I was also looking at Samsung but after reading about them using harmful chemicals, I became a bit hesitant.

My old hard drive crashed.  How do you reload CS2 on new hard drive and get it activated?

You'll need to get onto Support and explain, and if you have not made a habbit of asking, they'll reset your activations limit back to zero.  Or if you have only ever installed it once, you'll still have an activation to use.

I have Lightroom 4 and my hard drive is getting too full wiht pictures i have in lightroom. I want to move many to a thumbdrive and delete them from lightroom. what are the steps to perform this please ?

If you want to be able to view, edit and export from Lightroom you can move the files using your computer OS (explorer or finder) and update the folder location by right-clicking on the folder name in the LR Library. See fig 8 at the attached link:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm
This will work when the thumb drive is connected.
If you really have no need to keep these files off-line in LR then simply move the files, select all the thumbnails in the LR Library and hit delete. Then choose remove.
