Which HD to upgrade with?
So, a friend just gave me two 2,5" drives. Both samsung. a 320gb 5400rpm and a 500gb in a case. Can't tell what rpm.
My current set up is MBP 2.16ghz 3gb ram 250gb wd hdd. The HD was originally a 120gb.
Now, I'm thinking of sticking the 320gb in the machine and keep the 500 as a back up disk, at the same time I'm thinking of sticking the 500 in there and not have to lug a back up disk. I film and photograph a lot so need HDD space.
Or shall I stick with the 250 and keep the 320 and 500 in cases as external drives?
What would you guys do and what would be the negative effects of upgrading to a bigger drive?

Top priority is a full backup. This need not be on your laptop. Indeed, since 3.5" drives offer the advantage of greater capacities, using a drive like one of these Mercury HDDs will meet your needs for some time. Be sure that whatever drive you choose has the Oxford chipset, as they are the most reliable and least likely to fail in the Firewire bridge. You would want one large enough so that one partition will be as large as your internal HDD.
I am not sure what using the 500 GB drive for video means. Is this for video who shoot while on the road, or for processing raw video footage? If the latter, a partition on the desktop will serve as well, unless you need to have it with you when you travel.
How much capacity you need in the laptop depends on how much data you will be need to have with you. Remember that you need to maintain a minimum of 15% of total capacity of the HDD as contiguous available capacity (unfragmented free space) for swap files and to allow the directory to lay down new pieces of the Extents Overflow file to avoid directory corruption and possible data loss. So on a 500 GB drive you will need to maintain 75 GB as free space. Since the free space needs to be contiguous, and this is especially important with video files which tend to have larger fragments, 20% is safer. So on a 500 GB HDD which formats out to about 482 GB after reserving 75 GB as your buffer you will have 407 GB for storage, and if you choose to go with the safer 20% you will have 382 GB for storage. Your data is the most important part of your computer system, so unnecessarily risking it may be self-defeating.

Thanks...Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

Just upgraded my MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012) to Yosemite 10.10.3 including Photos 1.0 which is not syncing with Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Editor (already installed and prev ok with iPhoto)....any ideas please?
In iPhoto it was possible to go into the iPhoto prefs and set up Elements as an external editor. After using “Edit in” the image was saved back to the iPhoto library. Photos for OSX is very new, so I’m not sure whether that is possible with the new app. Have you looked for the prefs/settings? You could ask a question on the Apple forum:

hi I have been trying to do this, but PE13 comes up with a fail message saying that file types are not supported, am only trying to import jpeg files so can't understand this. So far have been unable to use PE13 at all, any ideas anyone please!

....with Photoshop open you click "Open" (top left) and 'Finder' opens up in the window with 'Photos' listed.
Select which pic you want to edit (duplicates must be created first in 'Photos") and it opens in Photoshop Editor
It's all a bit messy but seems to work. -
I have xcode 4.3.2 and iOS simulator Version 5.1 (272.21). But this course is on iOS 6. If I upgrade my iOS from 5.1 to 6.0 then do I have to upgrade my Xcode also? So my question is all my old Xcode project which I have tried with Xcode 4.3.2 will be still there because I do not want to destroy them.

If you own any version of Aperture 3, you are entitled to a free update. Only it can be tricky, if your version is not associated with your AppleID, because you bought it with a serial number.
Have you checked, if you can see an update at the App Store Updates page? Or an "Accept" button on the Purchases tab of the app Store?
Contact the AppStore Support and request a redeem code, to be able to buy the update for free. You will need to provide a proof op purchase of Aperture.

I tried to follow the instructions in note 1269960, but the enhancement spot
CLASSIFICATION_TOOL was already active. I activated it again and reran the phase
but got the same error. Also, I couldn't implement the note using SNOTE because it is
the middle of the upgrade process.
I also found the following long text in ST22

Processing had to be terminated because an internal error

I am on a 64 bit System with CentOS Linux. 8 GB RAM, 250 GB HD with 20 GB free space.
So far, I could not find any information on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go to SM37 and put in the username as DDIC and see the job log.
Also check Sm50 and see whether you have BTC processes available.
Last but not the least check your filesystem space usage too.

I'm trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS3 on a new ASUS ASM11BB001O computer equipped with 64-bit Windows 7. I use a "bundle" approach, first loading Photoshop 6, then upgrading with CS upgrade and then CS3 upgrade. The installation goes smoothly until I add PS CS, and then it balks at the "accept" Adobe conditions screen. I have two other (Gateway) computers with Windows 7, 64-bit, on both of which the PS-6, CS-CS3 pathway worked fine. Any thoughts on how to get this working? Thanks
If your goal is to install and activate CS5 there is no need to install anything preceding it. You will only need to have the serial number from the preceding version that you upgrade from (CS3 I guess).

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.

I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer) but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers... -
I am contemplating purchasing an iPad, and then possibly a Macbook pro. Currently, I have an iMac G5, and a Powerbook G4. Neither which can be upgraded past Leopard. My question is do I need to have Snow Leopard in order to be able to update an iPad? Do I need to reverse my thought on which to buy first?
I plan on keeping the iMac and PB until they cease to work ( have replaced HD's on both already). I mostly use the PB-- lots of writing, surfing, email, etc.

i guess this is because of the applications and files already in the memorycard.
why don't you try formating the card (after copying the data elsewhere, if you need it later) and switching on the phone with the formatted card.
if it works, you can install the applications one by one back again and figure out which application is causing the problem.
please let me know if this works. -

I could not decipher which sata is compatible with my macbook, it is 1, 2 or 3, or what should I buy.Your machine has a SATA III connection, meaning you can get a negotiated link speed of up to 6.0Gbps.

There are dozens of SSDs that would work in your MacBook Pro. You first need to decide what size you want (or need): they're available from 128GB - 1Terabyte.
Personally, I recommend either the Crucial M550 series or the Samsung EVO series. You can get either from a wealth of different sources. I have 4 Crucials now -> 2 mSATA and two standard 2.5" drives. There were some problems with Macs and the EVO series when they were first introduced but they work just fine with Macs now.
Google both drives and find the best prices for the storage that you need. You can't go wrong with either.

I recently purchased a Mac OS X 10.6.6 which was an upgrade from my Mac OS version 10.4.1.1 I downloaded the Adobe Photoshop CS2 which I had on my old computer and now it cannot read my NEF files which is a RAW file from my Nikon D200. I did not have this problem on my old Mac. I always shoot RAW and can't open any photos. Can anyone help me PLEASE?!?
Do you have access to another Mac to see if the disk can be read by it? If it can't then you're pretty sure it's the disk. If it can then there may be issues with your optical drive which might be cleared up by using a cleaning disk on it, one that uses dry brushes (no liquid).
If you have access to another Mac and it can read the iWork disk make a disk image of it so you can move the disk image to your iMac and install from the disk image.
