Which HDD capacity Satellite A20 S-103 supports?

Hello everyone and sorry for bad English ;)
I want to upgrade my Laptop's HDD but I am not sure which maximum size notebook supports?
It's a Satellite A20 s-103, with Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz.
Can you help me about it?
I am thinking on buying a 160 GB Samsung HDD! :)
Its very important question for me, and I could not be able to find an answer yet.
Sincerely! :)

Hi
For me the upgrade of the HDD to the 160GB is questionable.
Im not sure that the BIOS will recognize such big size.
I know that the notebook should recognize the single sizes like 30GB, 40GB, 60GB or 80GB.
Of course you could try to connect the 160GB and it would be very interesting to know the results. Please report the details...

  • Satellite A20: BIOS update to support USB booting

    Hi,
Does anybody know if there's a BIOS version for a satellite A20 which supports booting from USB devices (other than from the floppy drive, since that's already supported)
The reason i need this is because my cd drive is bust. And i'm a student, so i can't afford a new internal one, but i do have an external one... So i want to use that one for the recovery process...
I don't know if i can ask this, but can't i somehow tweak the bios that it WILL support the external dvd-drive, i know this is not recommended, at all, but i'm really really desperate :(
    Can someone help me?

Sorry but Mike has understand you very well. If you want to install OS using external USB connected CD/DVD drive you need the right driver because at booting process it is not visible for your system.
Please talk with your friends at the university. Any of them must have enough know-how how to do this. If possible try to obtain external USB FDD and create somewhere W98 start disk. Start your notebook using this disk and load MS-DOS driver for external CD/DVD drive. It must be somewhere on the net. After loading this MD-DOS driver the external drive should be visible for the system and you will have access to it to start recovery CD or Microsoft installations CD.
Other way you can remove HDD from your notebook and connect it as external to other PC. If possible create two partitions and copy I386 folder to second partition. Put it back and start notebook using W98 start disk. You should be able to access second partition and start installation from second partition.
As I said talk with your friends and I am pretty sure one of them will be able to help you.

  • Which HDD-brand is usually build into a Satellite A200-29L originally?

    Hello there, im new here.
I got a question for you, maybe someone here can help me with this.
I got an old, used Toshiba Satellite A200 29L here and i ask myself which harddrive i supposed to be in this when bought originally.
The notebook is atleast 5 years old, probably even older.
At the moment there is a Fujitsu harddrive with 250 GB in it, but i wanted to know if this is the laptops original harddrive with which it was sold back then in store.
The reason i ask myself this question is that this notebook has been with me for a while and i can't remember if i ever changed the harddrive of it or not. This problem gets more aggravated as i just found a 500 GB harddrive of the company Toshiba here and i can not remember of which notebook i would have removed that.
I found this (might be in german):
    http://www.toshiba.de/discontinued-p...lite-a200-29l/
Here it is written that this notbook comes with a 250GB harddrive (although the manufacturer of it is not mentioned).
    On the other hand:
    http://www.amazon.de/TOSHIBA-Satelli.../dp/B00518EOKI
Based on this link it seems that there are official 500 GB harddrives for this notebook as well.
I know this might be a strange question, but i am pretty sure that some of you got an answer for me here
Thank you in advance and best regards.

Maybe it sounds stupid now but it is not possible to find such information. All we can find is the HDD capacity. In the notebook specification is not mention which brand is the HDD.
Maybe someone with identical notebook model can help you.
Anyway, you can exchange or upgrade HDD anytime you want. All you need is SATA HDD (SATA connector).
Satellite A200 is pretty old notebook model but what you can do is to upgrade it with SSD and install Win7 32bit. Believe me you will be surprised how fast this old piece of hardware can be.

  • Re: Satellite A20-S103D: Is it possible to install a 120GB ATA-100 HDD

    In 2003 my Satellite A20-S103D came with a 40GB Enhanced IDE (ATA-5).
Would it be possible to install a 120GB ATA-100?
    Thanks,
    E

    Hi
The problem is that you will not find any official information about the HDD size limitation on the Toshiba notebooks.
Such infos dont exist. I didnt find it on the Toshiba page.
    I found this thread in the Toshiba forum;
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=71877&#71877
An user has suggested that the 30GB, 40GB, 60GB or 80GB HDD could be compatible.
The other user from this thread has already use an 160GB HDD in the Satellite A20-S103
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=89990&#89990
So maybe you are a lucky man and the 120GB HDD will run.

  • Satellite A20-130: SD R2412 cannot read DVDs burnt in certain optical drives

    Hi,
I've got a Satellite A20-130 laptop, running WinXP and Ununtu Dapper in a dual partition. My 2nd laptop is not Toshiba one. When I burned DVDs (DVD+R) with my non-Toshiba laptop and played them in my Satellite it all worked fine.
However, when I bought a new optical drive for my 2nd laptop my Toshiba suddenly stopped playing the DVDs burnt in this new optical drive(I was using exactly the same disc brand and format as before-- DVD+R). I tried the old DVDs (the ones burnt in the laptop before the optical drive hardware was upgraded) and they can still by read perfectly fine.
This problem applies to both Ubuntu and WinXP. Support from 2nd laptop says this sounds like a firmware problem with my Toshiba. I updated the driver for my SD R2412 Toshiba optical drive (which, according to the file manual, seems to fix a DVD-Ram compatibility issue). Now the drive occasionally reads some of the new burned DVDs (after making loads of noise and waiting for ages), but more often than not I get an error message saying the device cannot be read because the format is incorrect or the device needs to be formatted.
This non-Toshiba laptop reads the DVDs it burns using the upgraded optical drive perfectly fine.

    Hi
Satellite A20 is pretty old notebook model and after intensive usage it can be that drive is more sensitive. If all this happen occasionally there is no simply explanation why this happen.
I know it is pretty annoying but I do not see any magic solution. At the end you must test it with brand new drive.

  • Satellite P50-B-103 - Connect my HDMI output to a VGA monitor

    Hello everyone,
I have just bought a satellite *P50-B-103*, which only has a HDMI output and I would like to connect it to an external VGA monitor.
I thought I only need to buy a HDMI - VGA converter but the buyer said to me that Toshiba, unless this model, is not prepared to connect to a VGA monitor although I use a converter.
Is it true or I can connect my laptop to the vga monitor using the converter?
    Thanks in advance,
    Charly

The point is that HDMI provides digital signal and the VGA (RGB) port support analogue signal.
To be honest I read many articles about such adapters and converters but in many cases such converters are useless.
So its no matter if your notebook was manufactured by Toshiba or other manufacturer.
Itsa matter of the signal standard supported by each port.

  • BIOS flash for Satellite A20-S103 needed

    Hello,
I need a BIOS flash for a Toshiba Satellite A20-S103 notebook. I already downloaded the one on the download site.
But this one i can not use because i need windows to be installed. And that is just the problem.
I can not install windows because the BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant.
The BIOS version on the laptop is V1.10.
To update i need a dos version to flash the bios.
Is it possible to get a bios update which is written for dos?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jean

i did Have same problem. found nice resolve on it
Satellite A200 (PSAE2), all partitions killed (include hidden) so i can't use BIOS (windows based) update :-(((
    aim = win XP SP2
    steps:
    1) Win XP disk in CD, scsi drivers ICH8M_32bit on USB FDD (Mitsumi btw) attached to notebook.
    2) booting from CD. F6. When windows installator found ICH8M_32bit drivers. I am creating disk C: (NTFS)
    3) He begins to copy temp installations files. During this procedure it says what it couldn't copy all files from usb FDD to HDD. It says to me what i will have problems in sucesfully complete installation. In spite of that installator succesfully transfering windows files onto C:
    4) First planned reboot. I see blue death screen. End? Not so soon!
    5) i have begin new installation. Again give to installator ICH8M_32bit drivers from usb fdd disc.
    6) i choosed "leave current NTFS on C: without changes".
    7) This time all drivers from fdd disk has been transfered succesfully.
    8) After reboot installation of Win XP completed succesfully!!!

  • Which HDD is the right one for Qosmio G30

    Hi every one
I have a Qosmio G30-161. The recovery discs are interrupted by a blue screen and windows cannot be installed!
I tried installing a retail windows xp but did not recognize the hard disk!
I am almost convinced that the problem in the hard disc - the laptop has2-60G each!
The question is: what is the right hard disk that will fit the laptop!
In the specifications there were written S.M.A.R.T !!
    What is that mean?

    Hi buddy,
You can order such HDDs from an authorized service provider in your country. Did you already ask the guys if they can order a new HDD for you?
Qosmio G30 supports already HDDs with SATA interface so you can also buy HDDs with larger capacity. If you search for a new HDD, its only important that it has SATA interface and 2.5 form factor.

Do I have to buy onlyoriginal HDD to Apple because we second HDD my MacBook Pro will not recognize. I do not know what to do. HDD 2.5", 750GB, 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM, 8 or 16 MB of Cash in the IT shop costs around 60 USD, while the Apple service costs 150 USD. • Can I establish WLAN connection with Satellite A20?

Just bought a new desktop pc and philips ADSL wireless base station. Software running OK on both desktop and laptop but can not logon from laptop without cable being attached. Does anyone know if the A20 should do and if so how to fix / setup?
And if it doesn't, what do I need to make it so it does? I can not see the WLAN in network or device manager. Got Wireless hotkey in add / remove programs though. (What's this?) Can'e see it in programs list though??
    Help me! Please!!
    Ta. Andy.

It is not easy to give any precise answer because you have not written which notebook model you have exactly. Anyway I have found follow information:
    Satellite A20-S103 is WLAN ready
Satellite A20-S103D is also WLAN ready
To be sure about WLAN card please check at first bottom side. Every notebook with WLAN card on board (factory configured) has small WLAN sticker. Please check also entries in device manager under Networks adapters. If the WLAN card is not listed there you must buy one.
You can use one compatible card and put it on the right place or use some external solution like USB or PCMCIA WLAN card.

  • @T440p owner: which HDD is buildet in?

Dear T440p owners, which HDD is buildet in your laptop?
I'm specialy interested in the original HDD
    which 500GB - 7200rpm is it?
    and which 1TB - 5400rpm is it?
    regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The parts list shows that Hitachi, Toshiba and Western Digital drives are used, to find out exactly which is fitted in a unit the serial number will be required as Lenovo will use whichever is available at the time of manufacture, (although over the years my experience says Hitachi seems to be the first choice manufacturer by Lenovo, but this is no guarantee).
You can select the parts list on the following site where you will also notice that none of the 1TB drives have 7200RPM.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsDBLookup.page
The 20ANCTO1WW is a Construct To Order system, it will have the size and speed of drive you choose when ordering, it will not be possible to choose the drive's manufacturer

  • Recovering of Satellite P50-B-103 without losing created partitions

    Laptop: Satellite P50-B-103
    OS: Windows 8.1
    Hi,
I've created several partitions in my laptop Satellite P50-B-103 and I've created the 3 recovery DVD.
Now, I would like to recovery the Operating System and to mantein the partitions that I've created with therir files.
When I tried to recovery the laptop with de DVD, I see that it's necessary to delete all the partitions. Is it possible recovery the laptop whitout delete my partitions?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Generally speaking recovery image can be installed on two ways:
-HDD recovery option (recovery image is on the HDD)
    -using recovery DVD
When you use HDD recovery installation only partition C will be deleted and recovery image installed on it. This option works with factory settings and with original partitions structure.
You have changed this partitions structure and this option will not work so there is logical that you want to use created recovery discs.
Problem is that recovey image procedure wants to create original factory settings that include original partitions structure. Before recovery image installation starts all recovery files will be copied to the HDD and then installed from there so I think you cannot install recovery image on defined partition without changing everything.
Anyway, if there is some problem with your preinstalled OS, install recovery image again and then change partitions again. It is not a big deal. You have created recovery discs so original partitions structure that includes recovery image is not so important for you.
Using recovery discs you can install recovery image anytime you want.
Of course before you start to install recovery image make data back-up.

How can I find it? Thanks.

    Hello
It is really strange you cannot find it. I found it in 1 minute only.
You will find it on Toshiba support and download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com Support & Downloads.
In Product type choose option ARCHIVE.
You will find display driver for your Satellite A20-s103 (PSA20E). It is Trident version 6.14.01.0010.

  • Qosmio X300-11W - HDD Capacity and RPM

    Hi all,
    Quick question.
What is max HDD capacity and RPM for x300-11w
I wish to change my hdd but don't want to make mistake.
    Thanks

Virtually all modern SATA based laptops can take any size HDD. The previous limitation was LBA48, which was limited to 137GB. The next limit is something like 8 Exabytes.
The two things you need to be aware of is:
    1) Rotational speed. 7200RPM drives will work in any laptop, but they get hotter than 5400RPM drives. The X300 is a large machine, so a 7200RPM drive will be fine. If it was a compact portable laptop such as a Portege, 7200RPM may not be a good idea, unless the drive is generally a cool running drive.
    2) Physical size. Some HDD's can be 12mm or higher - especially if they are of large capacity. Measure the original drive, and ensure the new drive has the same height.
