Which HW upgrade to play my purchased TV shows?

I downloaded some TV shows from the iTunes store last night, and my PC is having a terrible time playing them back. Basically itunes drops a frame or two every 5 seconds which isn't bad. But then during the last 5 minutes of the show it would show a single frame for about 5 seconds, followed by about 1/10 of a second of motion, and then another single frame for 5 seconds or so. That's unacceptable.
I have similar, yet not as drastically bad, problems with other video/DVD playback.
Here's my PC's config:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Pentium IV @ 3.00 GHz
1.5 GB RAM (Minus the 64 MB or so that the video card steals)
Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2
(plenty of HDD Space)
My question is which upgrade will help video playback more:
1. Add another 1 GB of RAM
2. Add a DX9 video card (I was looking @ ATI Radeon x1050)
Thanks

  • Suddenly stopped playing my purchased tv shows, how can I fix this?

I have  been purchasing tv shows from iTunes & viewing them on my laptop for  a while, but suddenly none of the shows will play - I can open them, but they sit as paused on the screen.  I can change where they are paused, but they still will not play. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this? I'm at a loss.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the relevant document on the link below.

  • Can't play a purchased TV show

I've purchased game of thrones and when I press play it asks me to confirm I'm over 15. When I press ok it takes me back to the start menu. Can anyone help? It very frustrating.

I've found the solution. Its a bug in the new update for apple tv:
Apple TV not playing purchase TV episodes, after latest update to Apple TV was applied
    Graham
May 18 in Apple TV Member
I purchased a TV series on Apple TV (as I have done many times before).
    However,
after upgrading the Apple TV last month (with the latest software
update), I now can't play those TV episodes, without great difficulty
    I
can see the purchases episodes. But, when I press "play", then press
"OK", it's as though I've pressed "cancel", and it goes back to the
screen with the "play" icon (i.e. not letting me through to the show
    I've purchased)
    I’ve
gone back to Apple ID to make sure my birthdate is correct, and have
checked the Parent Controls to make sure they’re right.
I did a complete restore, but nothing changed.
So, in my frustration, I tried my last resort (which is no real solution), and it worked!!
    Here it is:
    When
I want to watch a TV episode that I've purchased (which is appropriate
for those aged over 15+), I need to do the following:
Click "Play", then click "OK" (to watch show appropriate for those aged 15+)   - Then, REPEAT THIS 2-STAGE  PROCESS 4 OR 5 TIMES
On the 4th or 5th time I click "Play" and then click "OK", the TV episode plays!
Is this a bug in the Apple TV, that I should raise with them?  Does anyone know what’s causing this issue?
    thanks

  • When I try to play a purchased TV show, iTunes shuts down

I purchased a full season of Private Practice from the iTunes Store; it downloaded fine. But whenever I try to play an episode, I am asked again to authorize my computer (which is already authorized) and then iTunes shuts down.
Frustrating!!! Anyone else dealing with this issue?

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
    ... and click OK.
Quit the QuickTime Player if you have it open. Restart the PC and try watching the videos in iTunes again. Do they play now?

  • Can no longer play iTunes-purchased TV shows in QuickTime Pro 7

Had to reformat hard drive due to nasty virus/spyware I couldn't locate and delete (AVG, AOL spyware protector, SpyBot Resident, Kerio Firewall, Windows Firewall all failed to stop it from entering and those plus AdAware all could not get rid of it). Upon redownloading and installing software (iTunes with QuickTime) I can no longer play the TV shows I purchased at iTunes. Is it because I had to copy them to another drive/disk . . . and then copy them back to my hard drive? I've scanned the files with AVG, SpyBot, and AdAware and came up clean. I've changed the file association from iTunes to QuickTime and from m4v to mpg or something . . . and back again.
With every change and attempt I get a pink hazy video, but when I fiddle with QuickTime preferences and save the defaults that it keeps automatically resetting itself to, I can see clear video . . . until I reopen the file.
Help! I am tearing my hair out. I am not tech savvy and cannot find a solution on the discussion boards or elsewhere.
    Thanx bunches.
      Windows XP

Nevermind, I changed the metadata of the video file to "music video" instead of "TV show" and I am now able to add it to a playlist X amount of times under the video app.

  • My apple TV is not playing my purchased TV shows

I have purchased several TV shows on my apple TV and not had any problems so far. The last week I am unable to watch a show. When I press PLAY it just returns back to the play screen. Help?

Hi Chenks, but as I wrote above, I have tried restarting the AppleTV several times, I have had this issue for a while now, I even turn off the AppleTV at night and boot it up each time I want to view something so it has had plenty of time to recover, but now it is getting to a stage where I want to view my content!
So, have rebooted, restarted, factory restored and still no joy on latest version, 1.0 comes up with not authorised despite it being authorised, de-and-re-authorised iTunes on MBP - these shows play fine on my MBP and wife's MB - the only issue I have is with AppleTV (the DID use to play on it, just get white screen of death now!)
    Any other ideas?
    Steve

  • ITunes 7.0.1 won't play previously purchased tv shows clearly

My son had purchased in the past some tv shows for watching on itunes. After the upgrade, the video is pixelated into various squares or just doesn't move (the audio works fine). Does anyone know what we can try to fix this.

  • Itunes 11 cannot play purchased TV shows or Movies

I recently upgraded my PC to itunes 11.  Since the upgrade, I have been unable to play any purchased TV shows or Movies in itunes.  I use Home Share, and the videos will play on my iPad and iPhone, but will not play on my PC.  The video screen opens to a black screen, and the times shows it is playing, but the screen stays black, with no audio.
    What I have tried:
    1.  Rebooted several times, and restarted iTunes
    2.  Ensured there were no updates pending
    3.  In Quicktime, set video to Safe (GUI)  -No change
    4.  In iTunes, deauthorized and reauthorized my account.
Really a pain, and now I am holding off on upgrading other devices until I can make sure that this is resolved.  This is exactly why Apple needs to remove restrictions on their files, as all of my other Movies and TV shows that were no purchased from Apply play fine.

I have resolved this issue.  Here is the link to the solution:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
I did not feel comfortable deleting the files, so I renamed the SC Info folder to oldSC Info, and then rebooted.  Once I went back into iTunes and played a TV Show, it asked me to autorize again, and then everything worked great.

if your internet speed is faster then you recieve the data then the issue must be in apples server

  • Can't play purchased tv shows in iTunes because of Quicktime?

When I try to play a purchased tv show (from a season inwhich i have already been able to play episodes) it states that it can not play because this version of iTunes does not support QuickTime.  I have 11.1.5 So frustrating!

I had the same problem, but then i uninstalled quicktime 7.5.5 and then reinstalled it using a new download of just quicktime 7.5.5 for windows from apple.com. all seems to be working fine now. this was a really annoying problem, as i had just downloaded new tv shows!

  • After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account i don't have and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again.

After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account (10 years) I don't have anymore and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again? I tried to sign in to hotmail again and it says i don't have an account, but when I try to create a new one with the same name, it says one already exists.
When I try to recover the password from Apple, it of course wants to send an email to the account I can't get into, and when I try to do the security questions, it says my DOB is incorrect. How can that be wrong?! I am pretty sure I know my exact birthdate. Now I can't listen to a bunch of my music.

Haha I had the exact same problem. Once I had tried it like 4 different pairs of headphones i was ready to give my iPod back. Then I tried pushing the headphones in further and proceeded to kick myself. I seems a lot of people have the same problem, post it on here and realise a few minutes later.
