AIR Plug-In Architecture For HTML/AJAX Development?

Hi everyone,
Doing an AIR project. Mentor suggested to do app with plug-in capability, "Great idea! i'll get sraight on it!!" but now..... not so good :'(
I would have a pretty strong background in programming for a student and would hate to srink to the challange but I can't find any documentatin on building a plug-in architecture for AIR? I have developed many apps during my studies but never one with any sort of plugin architecture.
Without any more background into my problem my question is..... does anyone know of any good documentation for me to follow or that i could look through and would set me on the right track in order to create this? Or could you explain briefly how you would go about creating this type of application?

Poll: Which idea is better for a project

I currently have two ideas for a personal project in Java.
IDEA#1:
I talk in hebrew and write algorithems in hebrew, so I thought it would be cool to create an ALGORITHEM COMPILER that compiles hebrew algorithems into java and runs it.
IDEA#2:
A 2D game like "Little Fighter" (http://www.littlefighter.com/): a platform-like game with cool little characters with imaginary wepons, combats, jumps and stuff..
I know some of you will say "listen to your hart!" or something like that :D
I think both ideas are cool and I think I'll enjoy creating both of them.
I just want to ask you guys what idea will be more challanging, more interesting in the process.. because I don't have much experience in making such applications.

I just thought if I write in english or any other left-to-right language it looks like the original, you know? "if .... then... " and stuff like that.
But if I write in hebrew it's messy :D and because we don't have capital letters in hebrew we need to write lowslashes all the time to represent a new word, like so: "stack_up()" or something :D
ANYWAY.... I think that the game is better... maybe a cool simple rpg game (role playing) would be good! or maybe a streetfighter kinda game ... it's up to me!! ;)
But I still have a problem! I have no idea how to create a standalone 2d game (outside an applet)!

well, I'm new to java too , but no to using IDEs,
and my impressions are the following:
Java creator is a great, great tool, but it lacks the
"easiness" of eclipse, it's more focused on the 'web
side' of the Java technology, not too much for the
standalone app creation[IMHO].
Eclipse is great too, but it needs more work in the
GUI 'design time' subject.
Both offer great features, and both have tons and
tons of tutorials for beginners and i think the best
tool is that which makes you feel more comfortable
with it , in my [really really short] experience, i
have used both and honestly, i feel more comfortable
working with eclipse, but i keep using both.

Adobe AIR HTML / Ajax Developement and Android

Just confirming... I haven't been developing in Flash since the days of Actionscript 2.0. I've been mostly doing HTML / Ajax dev the past couple of years. I started playing around with developing apps using HTML and Ajax. I read in another thread that for Android dev, you have to use flash. Is this true? If so, is there any plans to open this up more? I realize there might be some things that might not translate over, such as the touch interface, but I would really love to create some applications without having to get back into flash or learning Flash Builder.

Joe is correct on the support for HTML & AJAX. If you want to leverage those skills, you are going to have to stick with just using the on device web browser (which should be fairly robust) or look at alternate solutions like PhoneGap or Titanium's Appcelerator.

I have kind of complex form with many text fields and buttons in a Java application. I have been trying with Netbeans, everything is fine with Netbeans but it is a huge problem when all the graphics components move around when you have too many graphic....

I tested Eclipse 3.2 and NetBeans 5.5. NetBeans definitely has the more stable, reliable and more user friendly GUI editor.
From the rest of the development - the features of the IDE - I see that Eclipse offers more but with the drawback for the beginner (as I am) that some things are harder to figure out how they work in Eclipse. NetBeans seems more "intuitive" and easier for me. - Emphasizing again that I am a beginner.

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.

Word processing for iOS is fantastic, but not as good for citations and things as on the macbook air, though footnotes will be preserved.
The new textbook options on ipad are compelling. You should find out if any of your school textbooks are on there by searching the itunes store. If so, ipad is your choice.
They are different categories of products. the macbook air is an excellent computer.
But I guess I feel this way -- why don't you buy a desktop for the home. and an ipad for school? If you feel you can get all of your notetaking, paper drafts etc. done on ipad, then you can use mountain lion (coming out this summer) to keep it all in sync when you go home.
I do have to warn you that I tried taking my ipad to work. If you use google docs at all, you may find some limitations sometimes. If you stick within the icloud universe, (pages, keynote, and numbers), you may be mostly happy.

Which tool is better for ETL?

I want to transfer data from RLDB to Essbase, there are many method and tools, I don't know which tool is better for my case. Now, what I am doing now is:
1. Create views in Oracle
2. Export view to falt file
3. Import flat file to Essbase using rule file and MaxL import script.
4.The data size: flat file rows 3-4 million, time used: 13 hours
I want to use more powerful ETL tools, such as: Informatica PowerCenter, OBIEE, FDM, EIS, ..., I have basic knowledge for the above tools, but don't know which tool is better for my case? Please advise?

First to streamline your existing process, you could get rid of step 2 and add a odbc connection to the server and Sql statement to the load rule to pull directly from your Oracle database. Of course with the number of rows you have, if you use the same extract multiple times, I would create a table to load into from the view and pull from that table.
As for using an etl (Elt) tool, Informatica is pretty powerful and there is a version of it (although not supported in the future called DIM). I might go the ELT route with ODI(Oracle Data Integrator). In the future I might use OBIEE, but I don't think it fully ready for Essbase until the next version and I don't think it will rank on the same level as a full ETL tool for conversions.

As for EIS, I would not use it, but might use Essbase Studio. (It can use OBIEE as a source) again this is not an etl tool, it would just take youe existing views and load them.

Do you think you need 16GB of memory or 8 will be enough?
Do you need to carry your macbook around with you more often? if so just get the 13" it's easier to carry.
