well, I'm new to java too , but no to using IDEs,
and my impressions are the following:
Java creator is a great, great tool, but it lacks the
"easiness" of eclipse, it's more focused on the 'web
side' of the Java technology, not too much for the
standalone app creation[IMHO].
Eclipse is great too, but it needs more work in the
GUI 'design time' subject.
Both offer great features, and both have tons and
tons of tutorials for beginners and i think the best
tool is that which makes you feel more comfortable
with it , in my [really really short] experience, i
have used both and honestly, i feel more comfortable
working with eclipse, but i keep using both.

Poll: Which idea is better for a project

I currently have two ideas for a personal project in Java.
IDEA#1:
I talk in hebrew and write algorithems in hebrew, so I thought it would be cool to create an ALGORITHEM COMPILER that compiles hebrew algorithems into java and runs it.
IDEA#2:
A 2D game like "Little Fighter" (http://www.littlefighter.com/): a platform-like game with cool little characters with imaginary wepons, combats, jumps and stuff..
I know some of you will say "listen to your hart!" or something like that :D
I think both ideas are cool and I think I'll enjoy creating both of them.
I just want to ask you guys what idea will be more challanging, more interesting in the process.. because I don't have much experience in making such applications.

I just thought if I write in english or any other left-to-right language it looks like the original, you know? "if .... then... " and stuff like that.
But if I write in hebrew it's messy :D and because we don't have capital letters in hebrew we need to write lowslashes all the time to represent a new word, like so: "stack_up()" or something :D
ANYWAY.... I think that the game is better... maybe a cool simple rpg game (role playing) would be good! or maybe a streetfighter kinda game ... it's up to me!! ;)
But I still have a problem! I have no idea how to create a standalone 2d game (outside an applet)!

Today I went to the Apple store and they replaced the iPad:
Issue: Customer stated that it restarted often after updated iOS 7.0.2
Steps to Reproduce: Verified that there is numerous panic on iPad diagnostics.
Proposed Resolution: Swap
The clues of trouble included difficulty in loading, restarts even when not in use and draining battery. And there were maybe 100+ panics. The original iOS-7.0.0 load appeared to work correctly, why it didn't with 7.0.2 is not known to me, but it pays to have the extended warranty and an Apple store not too far away!

Which one is better, Dreamweaver or Flash for building an awesome website.

As the title says, I have purchased DreamWeawer and Flash both but I find Flash a little difficult. I bought trainings signed by Imtiaz Ahmed and Ammar Ahmed from St Magazine . These tought me a lot. I also bought trainings for Dream Weawer from ZJ Experts and Secure Techs.
Please suggest that which software would be great to design a restaurant webstie which would involve a lot of animations.

For web animations, look at Adobe Edge Animate which outputs to HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. If you have DW CC or CS6 on the Cloud, you can easily insert exported Edge Animate projects into your web pages.

None other than help.sap.com. STS is still a feature in IP and you have to use the features of STS from BPS.

Which app is better to buy? For iPad or iPhone

I now have both, an iPad 3 and an iPhone 5.
When I buy some apps, naturally, I want to use it onm both devices.
It happen serveral times, that one does not work on the other.
I think, the iPad ver. does not work on the iPhone?
I may be mistaken.
I just want to buy some expensive apps, so I want to makje sure it runs on both platforms.

There is an easy way to find out if they work on both the iPad and iPhone. In the App Store, when you go to buy a free or paid app, there should be a tiny little + in the top left corner of the button that says the price. This means that the app is optimized for both the iPad and iPhone. They will look different, but it should work definity. If you buy/install an app on your iPhone that is specifically iPhone (there is no +), then if you search for it on your iPad, (in the iPhone apps section) or look for it in your purchased apps, it will work, but it will be just an enlarged version, with buttons that were made for the iPhone. It can also be zoomed down to the size of an iPhone. If you buy a specific iPad app, it will never work on the iPhone, too big.
If you've already installed/bought an app before, but it's not on the device, there will be an install button, not the price, so I don't think, maybe, that the + thing will be there.

Netbeans or Eclipse.. which one is better?

Hi people, I am new in Java development and I want to know your opinion about IDEs. Which one is better? Eclipse or Netbeans or another one you can suggest?
By the way, I have had a question about BASEDIR thing.. Whatever I have done couldnt solve my problem, but I have known that it was very much related with my old system, I have had other serious problems as well. So I made a radical choise and changed my technology and passed from 98 to XP and over 1 night all of my problems dropped magically! I had to do this...

Why is it that much a problem to compile and run? .. as you say too, in worst case, put everything on background (I think classpath here in Java terminology), in anycase the program must be compiled and run, as long as it finds everything it refers to... huh? If my logic is correct, then why still its a hard point to compile and run a program?
And as to the personal development approaches, both have their own cons and pros... In dr.s approach (which in general the approach of the elders that come from legacy technologies and learn everything from scratch and robustly) you sweat a lot but become tough in long term.... in your approach, its much more pragmatic and logical to make a quick start and to go on to develop yourself in long term... in general I like to learn something by all its aspects, but its related with your resources (mostly time) to spend, as well as your mentality.
And by the way corlettk, the ``God botherer`` term rolled me on the floor :) Actually I am one of them as well and I think he loves to hear our voices like a daddy loves his baby's :) At least I love Him...
And yes your right... another example for hearing yourself is turning the questions of the people to them back.. and they CAN answer their own question %90.. well... %90 may be a litte exaggerated :) .. lets say a lot.

BlueJ

NetBeansIDE
and some editors

Of these BlueJ is really popular in university courses - it is very good and actively supported & developed. However, I find it a bit too slow even "gluggy" when menu items are selected. RealJ and JCreator are nice, clean and simple. NetBeans is very powerful and hence very complex so very hard to learn. Visual J++ is very easy to use - but I would say you wouldn't learn to code very well. I like JGrasp the best out of all of these, it is really a half strength IDE.
It's such a personal thing. You just have to keep trying new ones until you find an IDE that is easy for you to work with and works the way that makes sense to you.

I have kind of complex form with many text fields and buttons in a Java application. I have been trying with Netbeans, everything is fine with Netbeans but it is a huge problem when all the graphics components move around when you have too many graphic....
I am looking for IDE with GUI tools??? Any suggestions???

I tested Eclipse 3.2 and NetBeans 5.5. NetBeans definitely has the more stable, reliable and more user friendly GUI editor.
From the rest of the development - the features of the IDE - I see that Eclipse offers more but with the drawback for the beginner (as I am) that some things are harder to figure out how they work in Eclipse. NetBeans seems more "intuitive" and easier for me. - Emphasizing again that I am a beginner.

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.

I have a sata II samsung 5400 rpm and i am only able to transfer at 85 read right speed.
On my main drive sata III ocz agility 3 ssd i get 120 mb read and 180 write.
Neither of these come close to the 300 mb promised. So it wont matter if he got sata II or III
The speed came from Blackmagic Disk Speed Test
