Which iLife?

Hi
I've recently rebuilt my 1.8GHz, PowerPC G5 (3.0)running 10.4.8.
I don't have a copy of ilife, i need iphoto, imovie, iDVD etc.
Which version of iLife would be suitable for my machine?
Many Thanks
Chris

your Mac came with re-installer disks, they contain a copy of iLife..
try a 'custom install/iLife package only' ...
or, any version of iLife up to vers. iLife06 ..

I just upgraded to OS 10.5.8 and no longer have iPhoto - I did not realize it was an additional program I would need to purchase. Does anyone know which iLife version I should get - I do not have an intel processor. Thanks!!

  • Which iLife had HD6

I jump right from iMovie 6 (sans HD) to iLife 11. Which iLife had HD6? Or is the upgrade available to those with iMovie '11?
I hope that the new app store will have IMovie HD for sale.

You can keep both iMovie 6 as well as iLife 11.
Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.
Alternatively you could try this method, suggested by poster Uitech:
Open a terminal and type "touch /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iLife11.plist"
    (No quotes)
Install iMovieHD6 from the iLife 6 install disk.
This is said to work with both Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.

  • Which cat, which iLife, which OS?

I have done no paid upgrades since purchase over 3 years ago and have 10.3.9. I figure it is about time to upgrade but how? Should I just buy a new iMac fully loaded or just upgrade my software? The only things I use it for are surfing the web, email, and some movie editing. Which iMovie version is best and why did they jump from 4 to 6 and now 8?
    No 5 or 7?

    Hi Arthur!
This is just my opinion, but I like Version 4 the best followed by Version 6.
I have iMovie 6 on my G4 running Tiger and imovie 4 on my G5 running Panther.
The trick is to use QT 6.5.2 with Panther and iMovie 4 and to use QuickTime 7 with Tiger and IMovie 6.
If you decide to upgrade your Mac (lucky!!) then may I suggest getting iLife 08 but downloading the free version of imovie 6 that runs with that system. imovie 8 is much different than what you are used to.
    Happy editing!

  • Which iLife for my Mac?

    I have the following:
Power Mac G4 (digital Audio). 533mhz. 1.5gb memory. Running Tiger.
Really need to have iPhoto. This is daughter's computer and we need her to be able to store and organize photo's and photo imports from the internet for school projects.
I realize many of them have system requirements of 600mhz or more. I do not want or need iDVD, Garageband, iMovie or iTunes (already has this one). Just iPhoto. Do I really need the higher mhz for just the iPhoto part or is that for the Garageband/iMovie stuff?
If so, can I get iPhoto from the iLife '04 or '05 version and have it work?
Did Apple Chat - one recommended getting a new computer (can't afford that and the G4 was a freebie). Went back to ask if the mhz rating was just for the "big" stuff and basically it was "I don't know, just have '08 requirements in front of me". Big help that was.
Any Apple experts to help me figure this out and what iLife version I can use the iPhoto on with the G4?

You can use the version of iPhoto from any iLife package with your configuration.

  • What OS can I use and which ilife?

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G4 with 256 of RAM running Tiger. If I upgrade my OS to Leopard and up the RAM will this work ok? And what version of ilife can I use if I do this?
    Thank you in advance.

Leopard requires 512MB ram. If you install at least that much then you should be fine but expect better performance with more memory. Max out the ram if you can. You'll be happier. I have an iBook G4 running tiger still because it only has 256MB in it. Will install 10.5 only if I ever upgrade. iLife 08 runs well on my PowerBook but i couldn't install iMovie HD. I had iLife 05 prevoiusly so still have the regular iMovie.

  • Can I select the language when installing iLife 11?

I have an iLife 11 installation DVD bought in the U.S. Can I select the language in which iLife 11 should be installed in on my Mac?

It will use the Language that your OS is set to.

  • Why didn't my macbook pro come with iLife?

I purchased a 13' pro from Best Buy a month ago and iLife was not included. I thought all macs came with iLife??? Do I really have to pay for the programs after just purchasing my mac a few weeks ago???

iLife is included with all new Mac's just like before, that's iPhoto, iMove and Garageband.
    https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/built-in-apps/13-and-15-inch/
iWork is Pages, Numbers and some other junk.
What has occured is you bought a open box computer, which iLife comes preinstalled from the factory, but because Best Baboons erased the drive, they only could install OS X, not iLife because it requires a AppleID/password and they can't use theirs as it has to be updated and that requires their AppleID and password to be given to you.
If you didn't know you bought a open box, then you need to talk to Best Baboons for a refund as it's a used machine.
So if you want iLife you can certainly place it back on for free, here are the instructions

  • Loss of "Themes" in iphoto 09

    Hi guys
From the outset Im letting you know that Im no computer expert or wizz. Im just a guy trying to keep up to date. And after reading all this IM starting to feel really dumb.
Anyways im in a world of bother and its been driving me mad for the last 24 hours and starting to really worry me.....especially because I cant find any help anywhere online.
Then I came across you site & info which is rather reassuring.
I was trying to make an photo book/album using the Apple site for my Dad using photos from our overseas holidays.
I finished putting the book together and then when I went to order found that I couldnt do it from Australia.....apparently because the iphoto I was using was to old and didnt provide for Australia, which ilife and iphoto 09 now does..
So I then downloaded ilife 09 (think i also deleted the old iphoto 06 because window came up saying that im using a newer version and old version cant read it etc) and the additional program needed to run the iphoto component.
All works well EXCEPT that I dont have any "themes" when I click on "book". Ie the toggle that allows to choose between wire binding or hard cover etc is not lit up. Furthermore I cant choose (as its not there) between travel, folio, contemporary etc.
Then a window comes up saying that until a theme is installed I cannot proceed.
BUT NO WHERE on the net have I come across the same problem.
So im getting super worried that I now cant do anything with my photos or create this album.
HELP ME PLEASE. I appreciate how busy you all are but am in a real bind. Terence you seem to be the absolute gun....any ideas how to get THEMES etc working OR at least how to delete the packages and reinstall?
Ive tried to reinstall all the ilife downloads etc but not sure whether to delete the old ones etc.
Thank you so very much and have a great day
    Hinko

The fix below works for iPhoto 08. It should also work for 09.

Look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If you find it there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try iPhoto again. That may save you having to go thru the reinstallation.

  • Just installed Tiger, where is........?

I bought the 4CD Tiger set from Applerescue and installed it on my 450 MHz G4 PowerPC on an empty spare 27 GB hard drive. The dock has a ? for iMovieHD. I also noticed iPhoto is no longer a part of OS X as it was in Panther. I did a custom install omitting the foreign languages and printer drivers. I still have Panther on the other HD in the machine. Can I copy iPhoto to the Tiger HD?
Did iMovieHD not install because of my processor speed (450MHz)? I have 768 MB RAM.
Does anybody have any experience with Tiger on a Blue & White 400 MHz G3?
    Tracy

The "?" in the Dock appears automatically when a previously installed icon becomes disconnected from its associated application. In other words the application no longer exists on the hard drive or has been moved or renamed.
The current version of iPhoto is 6.x. The version you had was from before Apple started selling the iLife bundle separately. There have been no free versions of iPhoto since version 2.x.
iMovieHD was released about a year ago (maybe a little earlier, I don't quite remember.) The only way to have it would be to purchase iLife '06 or a new Mac with which iLife came bundled free.
If iPhoto was included with your Panther discs, then you can install that version. I have no idea if it will work with Tiger, so you'll just have to try it and find out. Here's what you can do:
    Restoring Lost OS X Files
If you erase or otherwise "lose" an OS X system application or utility (such as Mail or Disk Utility, for example) you can restore them without having to reinstall OS X.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Read the documentation. Use Pacifist to extract a fresh copy of the missing application from the file archives on your OS X Installer disc. The file archives are usually found on the installer disc in the /System/Installations/ folder.
After restoring the application you need to reinstall the OS X Combo Updater for the version of OS X you currently have installed. This assures the new copy of the application is updated to the current version.
Lastly, it's a good idea to repair permissions.

  • What is "Photo Library" in Photos application?

I think this happened since upgrading to iLife 09, but I'm not sure.
I used to have two albums in Photos: Camera Roll and iPod. The latter is an album in iPhoto and I have iTunes set to sync with just that album.
But now I have three albums in Photos: Camera Roll, iPod and Photo Library.
Photo Library's contents are exactly the same as iPod.
But where did it come from? There is no album in iPhoto called "Photo Library" or any album set to sync except for the album called iPod.
    Anybody have any idea?
    Thanks,
    doug

Not sure why "Photo Library" was not available on your iPhone previously, which was not normal.
This has nothing to do with which iLife or iPhoto version you are using, or if you have selected all photos in your iPhoto library to be transferred, or just one iPhoto album, or several iPhoto albums.
All photos transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are stored in your iPhone's Photo Library - regardless how many photos are selected to be transferred or the number of different folders or albums of photos are selected to be transferred.
I have a number of iPhoto albums selected to be transferred to my iPhone. All photos in all albums are stored in my iPhone's Photo Library. The photos in the albums below are not duplicated. The photos in the different albums include a link or pointer to the original photos stored in the iPhone's Photo Library. This way, you can view the photos in a particular album only by selecting the album, or all photos available in all albums by selecting Photo Library.
The filing structure for iPhoto, iTunes, and the Address Book on your Mac is the same.
You can't place a photo in an iPhoto album without the photo being available in your main iPhoto library, and a photo can be available in multiple iPhoto albums without being duplicated. Delete a photo from your iPhoto library that is available in an iPhoto album and the photo will no longer be available in the album either.
The filing structure for iTunes playlists and for Address Book Groups is the same.
There is nothing wrong with your iPhone now, but there was something wrong with it before if your iPhone didn't have a Photo Library, which is where all photos transferred from your computer are stored on your iPhone.

  • IPhoto and iMovie can't update

OK, so, in 2011 I think, my grandparents bought two MacBook Pro 13" laptops... Last year, they gave one of them to me, as my grandpa couldn't use his any more. Recently I realized that I hadn't been updating my software (hadn't used a Mac in forever before that) and ran updates through the app store. Everything went through ok except for iPhoto and iMovie. They ask me for my grandma's Apple ID password, which of course I don't know. I finally asked her today, and she said that not only does she not know the password for the Apple ID associated with the apps, but that the ID doesn't even exist any more! Is there any way to release those apps from her ID and assign them to mine so I can update them?

The issue is that neither of the Macs being sold in 2011 came with the Mac App Store versions of the iLife apps. But it is important to know which Mac it is and which iLife apps that you have installed.
To know the Mac model, go to the Apple menu, choose About This Mac and then choose More Info... What model and year is listed?
What is the version of iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand that is installed?

  • How can I get iPhoto back?

I accidentally deleted iPhoto from my computer a while back (and it's been emptied from my trash since then). I don't have the disks that came with my computer because I lost my mac box while moving. I also don't have it backed up on time machine. Does anyone know how I could reinstall iPhoto? I really need it.
    Thank you!

Depending on which version of iPhoto, as part of iLife, your
now missing version was, you may be able to buy an iLife
vintage suitable for use in Leopard 10.5.8 & it should work.
+{But the better deal may be to see what a replacement set+
+of original discs from Apple Sales/AppleCare will cost; if+
+they still are available, direct from Apple.}+
The retail meal deal, on its own install disc. And you may
    not have to install All of iLife in order to use the iPhoto;
if there isn't a custom install mode to choose single iApps
(an option in a few cases, where you can choose One item)
you still could get only the iPhoto package to install from a
install disc through use of Pacifist utility, a download that
should work in demo mode for free; to extract just the one
item from the install disc & from the Mac's desktop install it.
(And before you try to start iPhoto the first time, be sure to
run Software Update first and get it updated to the last
version available for it; then it may actually work OK in your
computer. Even if it wasn't the exact version as shipped.)
Somewhere in not too old of Discussion posts, there was
a question asking what version of iLife was best for use
with OS X 10.5 Leopard; if one of the retail versions of
iLife has an iPhoto suitable for your existing OS and files
you may have saved, a retail iLife installer should do.
    • iLife: System Requirements (versions: '04, '05, '06, '08, '09)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27615
There are hardware and other limits as to which iLife would
work in different Macintosh computer configurations over time.
Since your computer specs don't tell me what it really is, I
can't help narrow the field as to which of the newest versions
in the above linked support article may mirror what you had.
Hopefully if you do call AppleCare support/sales to buy a
replacement restore-install DVD for your computer and
supply them with the machine's serial number, you can
get the exact item that has gone missing; and it may be
at a cost lower than someone reselling an old iLife '08/'09.
And you still could use Pacifist to install just iPhoto, if that
iLife installer disc does not allow you to choose one app.
    • Pacifist - Charlessoft: shareware app (read page info)
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Hopefully that comes together for you, in any case.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I keep my iLife08 when I install Leopard???

I bought my Macbook a month ago and it came with Tiger 10.4.10, Leopard CD and iLife08 that was pre-installed in the system. Im thinking of changing my OS to Leopard through Erase and Install option but I want to keep iLife08. Is that possible?
    Thanks

You can do a clean install of Leopard and after that insert your Tiger DVD which came with your Mac. Click on Optional Installs and you can select which iLife apps (and other bundled apps that came with this Mac) you'd like to install.

  • FIlming Videos With Photo Booth

Quick question. I filmed a little video, around 4 minutes on Photo Booth, and uploaded it to Facebook, but after around 15 seconds, the video stopped, but the audio kept going, and when I tried looking it up on my computer, the video was only 15 seconds. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

    You're welcome banjopicker
I have been using QT Pro for years now. It is the best $30 AV app I know (if you want to buy software.) However, if your iMac was new in Nov 08, it came with everything you really need.
Launch your iMovie and look in iMovie > About iMovie for your version number.
If you have iMovie 7.x.x (Apple sometimes calls this "iMovie '08 "), you may also have iMovie 6 HD in your Finder > Go > Applications > iMovie (previous version) folder. If iMovie HD is not in there, you can download the iMovie 6 HD (v 6.0.4) that works with your iLife '08 from this link.
By the way, iMovie 6.0.4 does NOT work unless iLife '08 is installed.
Mac users whose Macs came with iLife/iMovie '06 and iMovie HD 6.x should use
the iMovie HD 6.0.3 update for the original iMovie 6 HD.
If you do not have iLife '08 and need other suggestions, post back telling us which specific iMac you have and which iLife version you use.
We may be able to offer specific suggestions based on the details in your response.

P.S. I understood your "beauty spot" meaning. If you do not have ANY iMovie, we can give other suggestions, but if you have an iMovie that works with your iSight, it will NOT mirror image your video clip without intervention by you.
