Which Illustrator version supports I-Mac OS 10.6.8 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo?

I am looking to purchase Illustrator for my old I-Mac. Which version can I buy for OS 10.6.8 2 ghz Intel Core Duo? Any thoughts?

I thought that too, but it looks like the Intel Core duo is not supported. Frustrating!
for CS6? I had a 2008 core2duo MacBook running CS6 until last year. it runs fine.
edit: ohhh, original core duo! sorry, misread. don't know about that one.

Hi Andy, yes it's a paid Upgrade...
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

Sounds to me like you may have gotten a machine with hardware issues, but it's hard to say.  It will shut down if it gets too hot, but that's not a normal occurrence.  I have never seen a MacBook Pro shut down due to heat, even after lengthy 3D gaming sessions where the fans are running fast and the bottom of the machine is unpleasant to touch.
First thing I would try to do is reset the SMC.  If that doesn't help, erase the hard drive and reinstall the system from scratch, which you should always do with a used machine anyway.
If a fresh system doesn't help, you'll need to get it checked out by Apple.
Edit: Oh, and sig is absolutely right...  please don't post in all caps!  It's very irritating.

I could not agree more! My MBP 2007 Intel Core Duo has had its logic board replaced not to long ago (DVI port died). The original hard drive is running great and I am running Snow Leopard wonderfully.
I was amped during the keynote and am really looking forward to Lion. I know the community is working hard to uncover a workaround because at present time, the solution (by new!) is not a worthy one. Especially when there is literally, nothing wrong with my existing machine.
Apple, please ensure Lion will be available for Intel Core Duo machines, we are not that old! The closed architecture approach produces quality hardware. 4 years is a toddler perhaps teenager when it comes to apple hardware and technology. I predict I have at least 3-4 more years left in my current MBP 2007 machine.
    Much Love, Apple!

My thanks to you and all other respondents.  In backing up "theVault" App I thought that my ancient version of Stuffit was inadequate to unzip the backup file.  I attempted to download the latest Zipit version which only works with Lion.  After upgrading to Stuffit 9 I realized that theVault backup file was encrypted so as to not open on the backup Mac.  One must restore to the iPhone where is does open.
My apologies for the imprecise post.  I am finding limitations with not being able to install Lion on my early MacBook Pro.  I can recommend theVault to those looking for a password App with secure backup.

    From the Creative Cloud FAQ:
To take advantage of all the great features in the new Creative Cloud desktop apps, customers should upgrade to a newer version of Mac OS X. Some of the new CC apps do not support v10.6 and will not install. Minimum system requirements for each Creative Cloud app can be found on the tech specs page on Adobe.com.

  • I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion? to use icloud.

Apple keep telling me I need to update to icloud but I'm not sure if Lion will work on my Mac. I've upgraded to snow leopard which seems to have knackered my .me or .mac account (whatever it's called now), so I don't seem to have any option but to upgrade to Lion if I every want to see my emails again.
Apple say I must have a Intel Core 2 processor for Lion to work...... at least I think that's what they say.
I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion?

    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
If you have a Core Duo model then you cannot upgrade to Lion. You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but iCloud is not available for Snow Leopard.
Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Look for the Model ID in the displayed information. If you have a MacBookPro 2,1 or later then you have a Core 2 Duo model and can upgrade to Lion.

Enjoy it and by the time your machine finally kicks the bucket there will be three more cats gone by.
Likely there won't be any keyboards, trackpads, cd/dvd or hard drives or even screens.
They will just stick a Mac-borg implant in your head and you wave your fingers around in the air to access data.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • What would cause a MacBook Pro display to begin having a red cast to everything I view? MacBookPro1,1 Mac OS X, 1.3 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz RAM

All of a sudden my MacBook Pro (Granted it is an old computer) started having a red cast to the display.  All shading and shadows are red now.  Up until yesterday, I never had any problems with the display.  Is it just getting too old?  Computer works fine otherwise.
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro 15"

      Processor Name:          Intel Core Duo

  • WHICH ILLUSTRATOR VERSION FOR IMAC MAC OS X 10.5.8 LEOPARD?

    hi there,
    i have a question.
I am a proud owner of the new IMAC with leopard on it (currently 10.5.8) the current software i think.
Now i try to put Illustrator on it, well first of all i try to purchase it, which is the first stepping stone. Illu is sooo expensive!
which version would be the suitable first of all for my leopard and is there a cheaper way around???does anybody know?
i love illu and NEED IT!
    thanks for any advice!!

The other alternative, which I have advocated here and on other forums, is eBay.
Contrary to what others may say or think, most software for sale on eBay is legitimate, and the few who aren't are easily spotted. eBay takes a very aggressive stance on these things which makes software sales there such a vibrant and active market.
And like Wade said, you can then get on the Upgrade path. And Adobe is very good about transfers of registration to enable you to do this. This is something I have done for years and it keeps my costs down.
Follow these guides and you won't go wrong.
    1) Read this web page from Adobe: http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/antipiracy/avoid.html
    and follow it!
    2) You must, must, must use PayPal for all payments to cover yourself. And eBay has new protection also.
    3) If the seller doesn't specifically state anything about the software or if the seller doesn't specifically state anywhere if the software is registered or not, ask the seller that and also if they will transfer ownership. If you don't get an answer before the end of the auction, don't bid! There are more sellers who will answer you. And keep a record of your correspondence by checking the button to send a copy to your e-mail account.
    4) Look at how many sales the seller has done and the buyer responses and ratings. Very few or zero sales and 87% ratings are suspect.
    5) Look at any pictures. If the seller took the picture himself then you have more confidence that you will get what you see than a stock photo or no photo at all. All software shown should look like commercial products, silkscreen logos and imagery on mass produced discs and not cd-rs with labels stuck on (pirate sellers usually are too smart to do that). Look at several of these and familiarize yourself with what AI CS3 and CS4 look like in bare disc form from other auctions there.
    6) Use AuctionSniper to place bids at the last minute.
    7) Compare prices on the versions of Adobe Ilustrator you want (CS3 or CS4). Some sellers ask ridiculous amounts for older copies of Adobe software. You shouldn't have a problem here but you could get Illustrator version 8 and an upgrade to CS3 for a combined total the is less than a full retail CS3. It depends on the market. Since you don't have a large budget do your home work and study the closing prices for the versions you want.
Follow these guidlines and you will get the software you want at a price you can afford.
