Which ipad can read a PDF doc

Which is the least expensive ipad that can read a PDF drivers manual  & other things to my severely dyslexic child?  Can any of the older refurbished ipads dot that?

All iPads can open PDFs. There are many apps that will allow you to save PDFs to them, including Apple's iBooks app. As for reading them back to you, the iPad itself can do that as well, and, again, there are many apps that offer that feature, too.
I would recommend getting an iPad 2 or newer as many apps aren't compatible with the iPad 1.

    I am using a Mac (all software latest version - Mt. Lion and Safari as web browser).  I see this exact problem but NOT with all PDFs.  As you might not know, PDF creation is built-into all Macs and I do NOT have a problem with any of those, nor has anyone complained to me about those.  Also, Macs have a bulit-in PDF viewer ("Preview") which also can NOT view the file correctly.  If I try to open the file once it has been stored on the desktop, Acrobat gives me an "incorrectly formatted PDF file" error.
    My AMEX statement is unprintable and some other stuff that comes from our local school board, and other online sources.  (My suspicion is that these files are not perfectly formatted).
    Here was my work-around:
    I use FIREFOX browser to retrieve the same PDF and it prints fine.
    I, too, would LOVE to know why this is happening because it is annoying.

    Do you get an error message when you try to export your file? Or, are you continually asked to subscribe when you try to convert a link? If it's the latter, it could be that you just haven't signed in to the app yet. Try this:
    From the ExportPDF website, click Sign in at the upper-right corner, and log in to the service with your Adobe ID credentials. Now, when you click ExportPDF, you'll be prompted to select PDF files to export, instead of being asked to subscribe.
    If you're receiving an error message when you try to log in, let us know what it is, and we can go from there.

    * You don't know how
    * The can't find the tools you expect to find for editing
    * You know how to edit, but you can't select text to edit at all

    All of the apps I have found on the App store either do not have the text to speech capability or if they have it they will only read a page at a time or simply read the text you paste into their window. I really do not understand what is so difficult about having this feature as Kindle provides it--though Amazon does not make the feature available on its iPhone 4 app.

    thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
    I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
    thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.

    When you say "info", what do you mean exactly? What kind of info and where is it being stored? Is it in a separate file(s), or is it metadata in the file itself? All EXIF data is retained (that's a standard for camera image files) such as date taken, camera model, exposure, location, etc, when you import into iPhoto. If you've added data in some non-standard way, it won't be retained.

    I tried it with the Filelog.
    The Problem is that it logs to the file (its not problematically) but also to the defaulttrace
    and thats not my preferred solution.
    Do you have any other ideas?

  • I can't print PDF docs since Reader XI update

    Help!!!!!!!  I can't print PDF documents since updating to Reader XI.  Had no problems before this update.  I have read other users posting and tried one "fix" that was suggested suggesting user try to print docs as "image," but that choice was not active to select.  I can't print even older PDFs that are on file in my computer.  Please advise - this is interfering with my business.  Thanks.  I get an error message indicating "no pages selected to print" even though it defaulted to Print All.  I selected by one page, pages 1-5, etc. with no success.  Windows 7 system.

    Pat, that did not fix the problem.  I still get the messages that the document cannot be printed and that no pages are selected; the print dialogue box shows that “all” pages are selected.  I get the message even if I manually select “pages 1-7” etc.  I tried deleting Adobe and reinstalling it but I get a 1311 message that seteup.exe cannot be located.  I tried downloading just the Adobe Reader printer drivers from your site and get a message saying that the download was not successful.  Please help.

    I tried to read an PDF file using FIleInputStreamReader and tried to print the contents. Some grabage value is getting printed. on tried to read the HTML filre..only the source is getting printed by the printer.
    How can i overcome this problem

    How are you printing this stuff?
    If you want to print files of various formats, for each file type, you need a way to read the file and render it's contents like the regular application does (Acrobat Reader, Word, etc) and print that rendered output. You can't just send the file as text and have it print correctly. Whatever you do to print the text file works for text files only. HTML works the way it does cuz it's a text file which the browser interprets the markup in it to make it look nice. But you aren't rendering that HTML, you're just printing the text in the file, which includes the markup. The PDF and DOC files are even more different, they are binary formats.
    Whatever you are calling to get the text files to print is not some magic code that's going to interpret and render any file format you give it. That's why there are different programs for viewing PDFs and DOCs and HTML files and the like instead of one magic do-it-all program that can read/write any file type.

    Can't open mail PDF docs when transfered to DT. Removed Adobe plugins and restarted Safari...no change. I can open then in 10.6 Is this a Reader or an Apple issue?

    Thank you Linc Davis and Joe Bailey. The three files in question that I was not able to open on the DT were empty (0 byte). I re-downloaded them, save them on the DT and they opened. I really don't know what took place here, maybe some preferences were previously changed in the reader, but I don't really remember and I am not too concerned at this point. The main thing they work now... so thanks for the help.

    Then why was I able to read them before? I downloaded a PDF study guide that I have been using for weeks.  Then all of a sudden, a couple days after I purchased rights from ADOBE to convert from text to PDF everything comes up in a different fot.  It is in a draft type of font that is very light, the caps are bold and it is difficult to read.  I can still read the Study Guide, though it is hard on my eyes, but my bank statements are illegible.  Now please tell me if it isn't Reader, what is it? and HOW DO I FIX IT?
