Which Ipad mini for 2 Daughters Help

Hello,
I'm looking into buying 2 Ipads mini for my 11 and 13 years old daughters for Christmas. I'm familiar with most Apple products but not much when it comes to Ipads.
I came across to the mini ipad 2 retina 32GB on sale for $299 however I'm not sure if the model and size (32GB) are suitable for them. There's the mini 3 which is more expensive.
Thanks in advance.

The biggest issue you could face with a 2 instead of a 3 is that MAYBE the 2 will max out on iOS updates sooner than the 3. And it is just a maybe because none of us know when devices max out. The iPad 1 stopped at iOS 5.1.1, the iPad 2 was eligible for the latest iOS update, which is 8.1.2, but did not get all the features, nor did it get all the features of iOS7.
So the 3 offers you the longest compatibility. That said, unless you're continually looking for new apps that won't make much of a difference. For example, when my iPad 2 maxes out  then the apps that are on it would continue to work, I just couldn't get any newer versions or may eventually have issues finding compatible new apps.
Given that it's for children, Id' go for the Mini 2. I would also recommend apple care plus, which is an extended warranty. However it covers up to 2 instances of accidental damage repair. Say your daughter drops it. With Apple Care plus you'll pay a $49 fee for a replacement, without it you'll pay 219 for that same replacement.

I'm trying to use my iPad mini for the first time with a previous apple ID and password but it says "iTunes is not working try again"...it allowed me to download an app on my iPhone using the same apple ID & password but all my apps are in "Waiting Status" on my iPad mini because it says "iTunes is not working"...PLEASE HELP ME NOW!!!

Previous user installed iOS 7 beta on that iPhone.
Take it back and get your money returned. You
are running into a new security feature. Whoever owns
the ID that it is asking for is the only person who can
remove the security. That iPhone is worthless to you.

  • Help setting up ipad minis for our two kids.

We purchased ipad minis for my two kids this Christmas (ages 6 & 8).  I have been working on setting them up so they are ready to use.  I created gmail accounts and Apple ID accounts to use for messaging and FaceTime only.  I put restrictions so they can not use email, Facebook, Twitter, Safari, etc.  I plan on using a kid friendly browsing such as Mobicip.  The part I am getting hung up is being able to put certain things on their iPads from my wife's iTunes account.  We have decided to use her account to sync with their new iPads.  Obviously, the kids will not have access to her password on iTunes.  She has very few game apps on her ipad.  I would like to add fun appropriate kid games to her iTunes account to sync to their iPads, but not my wife's.  The same thing with iBooks and music.  Some of my wife's books are not kid appropriate.  I know you can create playlists to share music.  What is the best way to go about setting up iTunes?  Any other things I am forgetting to keep inappropriate material from curious kids.
    Thanks.

  • Advice for setting up new iPad mini, for our 13 yr old, needed.

We are buying an iPad mini for our daughter's 13th birthday present, and naturally, are full of fear & hesitations for all the obvious security reasons. But, she has ADHD & some learning disabililities, and we know that the iPad Mini with app's could help her overcome several academic & organizational challenges when she enters highschool next year.
She, and we, have some questions though, about the WISEST (ie: most responsible) way to set it up for her use.
Should we set up the iPad mini as completely free from our family mac desktop (which still runs OS X 10.6.8, not Lion)?
Should she get her own Apple ID? This would allow her own Cloud storage, & foster future responsibility, but then would she still be able to access app's stored on our family computer & other iPads.?
Should we start her own iTunes account? So that she can buy her own tunes & app's. But once again, could she manually sync already purchased stuff from our family computer?
Backing up: should she back up her iPad mini with iCloud (her own apple ID) or with iTunes?
If we did set her up with her own Apple ID (that we would know the password to), could we still set parental controls - which she actually wants(!)?
She would like limits on the time she can spend on the internet, AND time limits on playing with certain games - as she fears getting "addicted" to the games.
How would we set time limits on app use?
Thanks very much for your suggestions and advice. If you have any other practical parenting / iPad experience, I welcome your suggestions. We'd rather not learn the hard way..

There would be no issue syncing it with your computer and putting content on it. It can back itself up to iCloud, but another backup of the content on a computer is always a good idea.
If you already have an Apple ID with purchased apps, it would be fine to let her use it. You can use a shared Apple ID (for iTunes, iBooks, App Store), and have a seperate iCloud account (To sync critical info and back-up).
The parental controls in iOS are independent from an Apple ID, you can set-up the restrictions when you get the iPad and adjust them to what you are most comfortable with.

  • IPad mini for Xmas.  Can't get it to recognise or connect to my home network. I'm using a BT Home Hub set up in Jan 2012.  Any suggestions?

Got an IPad mini for Xmas.  My home network runs off a BT Home Hub.  I can't get the iPad to recognise or connect to the wifi network despite a strong signal. The device recognises the presence of a BT Network but keeps asking lots of nonsene stuff - like IP address etc etc which it ought to be able to pick up automatically.  The BT Network was set up in Janiary 2012.  Any suggestions?

    hello again,
i didn't really dare to delete the blue home folders before, just in case everything went wrong, but now i think i have so little space that i can't afford to lose 2.25gb!
one thing that slightly worries me is the fact that the 'proper' library folder (in the home icon) is 2.09gb, whereas the 'wrong' one (from the blue folder forenamesurname) is 2.24gb - this is the one i would be deleting. just seems odd to delete a larger file than the one i presume i'm using.
"Move everything you want to keep out of the blue folders, and then place both of the folders on your desktop. If everything works properly after a few days, delete both folders. If you are asked for your administrator password at any point or if either folder is copied instead of moved when dragged, don't delete that folder."
by 'everything you want to keep', does this include the library folder? 'cause there doesn't seem to be much else, and i'm not sure if deleting the library folder would ruin all my preferences.
i've put both of the folders on the desktop, it didn't ask for the admin password or try to copy them, so i guess that's good news. what kind of things should i be looking out for to act differently?
are the folders not in use now that they are on the desktop?
also if i put them in the trash will they have no effect? i.e. the same as permanently deleting them, so i could put them in the trash as a test.
    cheers, stephen.

  • Setting up iPad mini for school giveaway, suggestions about apple ID and apps

    Howdy all,
I've been asked by a client to setup an iPad mini for a school giveaway including loading it up with apps. They want to provide not only free but paid apps. How do I set this thing up with an ID that the winner can use? I was thinking about creating an email account with a free webmail provider then creating an Apple ID with that email. The person donating the mini was going to give me a pre paid visa card to load it up with apps. I see several problems here. If the winner already has an apple ID they will not be able to merge the purchases and put the mini on thier existing account so they can utilize thier already setup itunes and purchases made on that account. Also if I create an ID and want to add a payment type to the Itunes store it will require billing info which I will not have since I don't know who the winner is.The only other options I can think of is to:
1.Wait till the winner is chosen, contact them to see how they want it set up then take or it.
2.Give them the mini and prepaid card and wish them luck.
The person donating it really wants it set up, am I missing another options through itunes gift cards or other methods? Any suggestions would be greatly apprecieated.
    Thanks,
    ~G

You should never setup an iPad you are giving a way. That is just looking for trouble for the recipient.
If the person donating the iPad wants to also donate Apps for it, you can wait until the Winner is chosen, and then have the donator Gift The Apps to the winner's Apple ID if they have one.  Or create one for them on the spot and Gift the Apps that way.
Setting Up an iPad is part of the fun of getting one, why would you want to deprive the recipient of that?
Alternatively if you really want to you can choose to just give the sealed iPad to winner, with an itunes Card they can then redeem when they set it up.
Past that, there's no reason you should be opening the device, as that can make it harder to get a warranty coverage should anything happen. Since its already been opened, there's no way for the winner to be sure that any damage wasn't caused by you, and no way for Apple to confirm that and you can potentially get in more trouble than you need to.
Personally, a Device such as this should be kept sealed, and handed over ot the winner as if it were picked up at the store.
You probably mean well, but its just more trouble than it ultimately is worth.

  • 16 GB ipad mini for college

    Hello,
I'm considering getting a 16 GB ipad mini for college this year. My question is, would 16GB be enough? I plan on using the ipad mostly for note taking. Thanks!

    Hi,
Because you'll be in college, I suggest you get as much space as is possible!!!
The thing is, many, many people, once they start using an ipad and learn all they can use it for, end up needing more storage space on their ipads. And you cannot increase space. So go for the most you can afford.
Our younger son is in college. He got a 64 gb, only thought he'd need only a  32 gb, and he's used more than the 32 gb in a matter of months. He can store text books, documents, etc., financial newspapers (required for classes) and more movies and music than he thought he'd need. (Videos will take up space quickly.) So he's very happy he got the 64 gb. And you actually start out with less than 16 gb because some space is used up by apps and programs that come pre-installed and are necessary for your ipad mini to work.
If the cost is a strong consideration for you, take a look in the Apple Refurb store on Apple's website.Last year we bought two refurbished ipads from the Apple Refurb store on the Apple website. They are great!
They come with new covers (front and back,)  a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty. Now with Apple care + ($99.00) you can get more coverage that will also cover accidental damage like broken glass and wet ipads (3 incidents of damage.) I think it's well worth it. PLEASE do not buy a refurb anywhere else!
If you planned on buying a new 16 gb mini, it costs $279.00 In the refurb store. The refurbished 32 gb mini is $359.00 - twice the space and only $30.00 more than you planned to spend on a new 16 gb. A refurbed 64 gb will cost $110.00 more than a new 16 gb - four times as much space. They are only sold via the website and come in a brand new box.
So if I were you, I'd go for the certified refurbished ipad from the Apple website. Please note that the different colors and sizes come and go in the refurb store, so when you see what you want, act on it. Delivery is fast.
    Hope this helps.

on my i pad mini what is the correct procedure to LOCK our IPAD MINI for automatic i cloud back up ? I am never sure the back up is working. thank you

Are you plugging in every night, locking the iPad and connected to WiFi? Are you meeting all three requirements?
Well that is what I do and it works for me because I can see the next day that the new backup shows in Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Backup Now. If you look at my screenshot - you will see that I experimented to make sure that it would work. I responded on July 3 at 12:24 PM when you posted. Then I locked the iPad, plugged it in and waited for about 30 minutes before I unlocked the iPad to see if it backed up. The screenshot shows the backup was completed at 12:44 PM on July 3.
I also backup with iTunes and I almost never auto backup. I just initate the back up on my own. But the instructions that I posted are right from the settings. You can read it for yourself in the screenshot.
You do have to wait for at least 24 hours before the next backup will take place, but if you are getting a message that you haven't backed up a week later, I can't explain that.
Dont trust that message. Look and see what the date of the last backup was. That's the only way to know for sure.
