Which iPad should I purchase? Ipad air 1 or 2?

Hey guys! I'm wanting to purchase a iPad for school next year (uni), and am debating over which iPad Air version to purchase. I'd like an iPad mainly to do my school work (type notes, look at pdfs, highlight textbook pages, etc), as well as browse the internet, use apps (like facebook, twitter, youtube, email etc) and watch movies. I originally was going to purchase the air 2, but after browsing a few forums, I noticed quite a few people complaining about it (vibration issues, screen distortion, battery, etc). Considering the price, I'm now a bit hesitant in purchasing it.
Which I guess leads me to the iPad air 1. From what I understand, it seems to do the same job as the iPad air 2, but just without those issues (and for a cheaper price!)? I noticed that a few people were talking about safari reloading, but I don't use more than 2-3 tabs at a time generally, so I would assume that wouldn't be an issue? My only problem is that I'm worried it might be too slow compared to the iPad air 2's chip and ram, and is already too 'outdated'.
I'm really hoping whatever iPad I purchase will last me at least a good 2-3 years (I know that might be asking too much!) and will be of good quality; I know products are always bound to have flaws, etc, but I'm hoping to pick the one of with the least amount, and something that will last me.
I guess my question is what everyone else's experiences have been with their air 2 so far? Do you like it, prefer it over the air 1, prefer the build quality, don't like it, waste of money, etc.
I've never owned an iPad, but currently have a nexus 7 tablet that I'm hoping to replace. I found the nexus too small when writing notes and didn't really like using keyboard folios with it; which is why I don't really want to purchase any iPad Minis.
Any help is appreciated!
edit- I apologise if this is in the wrong place!

The biggest issue between the 1 and 2 is that all devices eventually age out of software updates. For example the iPad 1 maxed out at iOS 5.1.1, only the Touch 5 was eligible for iOS8 and I think only iPhones 4+ could get iOS8. So eventually, if you get a 1 you may face maxing out of the iOS updates before the two.
That said, even if your device maxes out it'll still run just fine as it is. You may just face issues with future apps....so say my iPad maxes out in December. In February a really cool game comes out and I want it... but wait, it's for the newer iOS and won't install on mine. If you're aware of the issue and accept the issue, there's no reason you can have a fully functioning older device.
And if the 1 is more stable than the 2, even better. I've been very lucky with my iPad 2 to have it be a very stable and dependable model while later models do seem to have had issues.

Get the AT&T version. The verizon is CDMA, which doesn't work in other countries while the AT&T version uses SIM cards, so you can use it with other networks.

  • How do I determine which IPad Air model I have?

How do I determine which IPad Air model I have--Air or Air2? Thanks.

The single row I'm speaking of goes across the full width of the iPad but is interrupted by the Lightning connector. Here's an ASCII example:
    iPad Air 2
    .  =speaker holes
    O= Lightning connector
    ...............O...............
    iPad Air 1
    : = speaker holes
    O= Lightning connector
    :::::::::::::::O:::::::::::::::
I mentioned them as being rows and not columns because with a single row as with the Air 2, there are no columns when viewed horizontally...if viewed vertically, the rows will of course turn into columns.

If you want to be able to use the iPad with local micro-sims when you back to New Zealand then you need the AT&T version - the Verizon model is CDMA based and doesn't use sim cards. The AT&T iPad is not locked to them.

  • Which iPad Air is best to be used in Bangladesh

I Wanna purchase an iPad Air to be used in bangladesh and would like to know which is the choice for a cellular+ wifi ipad?

The 13" MBP and the low-end 15" MBP (with only one GPU) both ship with a 60 W MagSafe adapter. The higher end MBPs (dual-GPU 15" models and the 17" MBP) ship with an 85 W adapter. So, your machine should have a 60 W adapter. With the LED not coming on, it sounds like a bad adapter.
'Not Charging' is displayed when running on AC power with a charge level of 95-96% (it's running on AC, and doesn't start charging until the battery drops below 95%, but it's not really fully 'Charged' so the OS displays 'Not Charging'). But, in that case the light on the plug should be green.
The 85 W adapter won't harm your machine, since the MBP will only draw the power it needs. But, you are probably better off getting the adapter that Apple deems appropriate for your MBP - the 60 W version.

  • Which iPad Air capacity number (32, 64 or 128) necessary?

I'm about to buy an iPad Air, but am having a difficult time deciding the best size. I'll be taking videos (and lots of stills), with it and I have no idea how much space these might take together - the video is a real unknown for me. Can anyone expand/inform me. I'm between getting 32, 64 and 128GB. The price should not be a concern - I need facts. Thanks for any thoughts!! -Joan

  • Which iPad Air allows everywhere internet

    Hi:
I received a nice iPad Air for Christmas and my husband thought it had the internet connection type where (like a cell phone) you can connect to the 'net pretty much everywhere i.e. driving down the highway, on a mountain top, in other words without hooking into a wifi. I think this one cannot do that. It's 32 GB and says supports wifi but so did my old ipad. And with my old one you had to hook into a wifi connection. I looked on Apple.com and compared iPads and it appears I'd need to have the iPad Air model that says either 'Cell' or '3G' to be able to connect to the 'net this way? This iPad cost $599. Is this right? If so what's the difference between the 'cell' feature and '3G' feature?
Also, if I'm right and I want to turn it in for a new one, will getting a higher model with cell or 3G feature require me to buy a monthly plan just like a cell phone or can I piggy back on my current iPhone AT&T plan or basically use that plan with iPad too? Thanks.

I found a summary of data plan costs.
I am wondering what these quantities translate to? For example, does the length of time I'm on the 'net eat into the, let's say, 3 GB per month? Or is it just based on emails received or something else such as connecting to (not using) the internet? So I think I'm asking what drains down or eats up the size/space/quota.Time or activity or what? And how does the iPad (or whoever) know if I'm connected via my home wifi (most of the time) or if I'm tapping into the data plan when I'm away from wifi? Thank you!! It's a long way of saying which plan is best for me and can I get away with the cheapest?

  • Which mac should i purchase...please help!!!!! Its my first mac!

Im in a dilema...I solely want to produce music with Ableton and I will be using Final Cut Pro extensively...im debating on which MAC system to purchase....Im highly interested in the new macbook but im not sure if the laptop will sustain the tasks I want to do...maybe a macbook pro or powerbook? or should i just skip the laptop idea and get an imac or desktop mac! Please help?

any mac would work fine using ableton live, but if you're going to be doing final cut work, you're going to need more graphics power. if you need a portable, the macbook pro should do you fine. a powerbook will work, but with final cut the macbook pro is literally at least 4 or 5 times as fast. if you don't need a portable, either the 20" or 24" imac will work fine, the smaller one doesn't have dedicated graphics, so it won't do. if you are working with serious, professional media or HD media in final cut, the mac pro is the only way to go.

  • Which ipad air LTE should i buy from US to be used in Singapore

    Any suggestions are welcomed.

Check with whatever cell provider you intend to use and ask them the same question. The Verizon model would probably be a closer fit than AT&T or T-Mobile. It will work outside of North America but there is no guarantee it will work on the system you want to use.
Speaking of guarantee, there is no may, the WiFi+Cellular iPads warranty are limited to the country you purchased it in, with EU locations counting as one country. If you need warranty service you will have to return to the US.

  • Have...macbook pro, 10.5.1, need min Win OS, which one should i purchase?

which windows OS should i install on my memory maxed MacBook PRO laptop? Want the min memory, min $$ spent but need to make sure i can access web sites with internet explorer. Don't need to run games, run applications except for IE.
I'm a realtor and the sites i need to get info from require internet explorer. Firefox and safari are not compatible. I already called these sites and they said the data they return to the website was written for IE and not safari or firefox. These are must go to sites and i figure the best way to access them is to run boot camp, download a window OS. BUT....
I only want the minimum windows OS to save $$$ and memory. I'm already using 70G of 80G. I plan to buy an external and move photo's and movies over before i install windows. Also, I know i need to vista or xp with service pac 2.
But, which Windows OS is best for minimal conflicts but also buying the OS that takes the smallest amount of memory.? Only want to access web sites and see spreadsheet data only available on IE. Not using windows for any other applications or uses.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
with waht you want to do in Windows and with your MacBook Pro a 32-bit OEM version of either Windows XP Home with Service-Pack 2 or Vista Home Premium would be sufficient.
Although these versions might not let you use the full amount of RAM installed in your MBP, but rather something between 2GB and 3.5GB, that shouldn't be of much concern to you, since the IE (and other Office programs) are not that much RAM-hungry.

  • Which mini should I purchase?

Okay. Maybe I'm doing things backwards, but I just ordered an Apple 20-inch cinema display yesterday (even though its discontinued) because I like the non-glossy screen and the size. I work at my computer everyday for teaching online... in both the Mac and PC world. So, it's imperative that I can run Windows programs. It would be great if I could get something that is preloaded with Vista. What do I need to get? Should I get the latest? An older version? Do they come preloaded? Help. I need recommendations. Thanks!

They are not "preloaded" with Vista. You can though add Vista to it if necessary. But before jumping the gun and buying a Vista license for it, consider what you really need Vista for. Mac OS X has numerous public domain software titles that let you read and write documents you may think only Vista can operate with.
My FAQs below can help you see that*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#WINTEL
    http://www.macmaps.com/crossplatform.html
    http://www.macmaps.com/macgamepages.html
All Intel Core2Duo Mac Minis can operate the 20" cinema display, and run Vista quite decently in terms of speed.
Games though are harder because it is a shared GPU with the main hard drive. If games are your forte, an Intel Core2Duo iMac is probably a better buy as it is a GPU that is fully a chip. See my FAQ* on where to get used and refurbished Macs, and what pitfalls to watch out for:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
Don't confuse the CoreDuo for the Core2Duo. The CoreDuo is simply Apple's transition chip into the better 64 bit Core2Duo chips.

  • Which MBP should I purchase?

I am a PC user and wanting to switch over to the Mac world. I was looking at the different versions of the MBP and after looking through these threads I'm a little confused. I am hearing that the new MBP's are crashing when doing simple tasks like watching YouTube videos. My question is, is this happening on the new MBP Retina's only or also on the MBP that were released earlier this year (June)? I don't want to have these troubles obviously so should I get the refurbished version from 2011 to avoid this? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I bought a retina in the last week of June and have been very happy. I have not had any problems or crashes. I have watched YouTube videos with no problems. I just wanted to share my experience with you. Most if not all posts here will be problems. You won't see many posts from people who are not having problems and are totally happy with their retina computer. Hope this helps.

  • Which Book Should I Purchase

    Hi Everyone,
I recently picked up FCE HD 3.0. Being a complete newbie, I would like to elicit an opinion or two from this discussion board as to which books or DVDs would best be suited for my situation. I have been using Logic Pro 7 for two years and am pretty familiar with more complex software programs. I am thinking about ordering Mr. Wolfsky's Final Cut Express Editing workshop manual/DVD. http://www.fcpbook.com/FCE%20Editing%20Workshop.html.
I could not figure out which version (2.0, 3.0 etc.) this book covers. Does the info pertain to my version of FCE HD?
I check out this board all the time and have picked up a lot of useful tips. Keep up the good work!
    Thank you, J

The book on your hotlink is for the original FCE and is not suitable.
    Look at these links:-
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Home.html
    http://www.fcpbook.com/FCE2%20Editing%20Workshop.html
FCE 2 is the one you want. Tom did not write a new book for FCE 3 HD because they are almost identical except for the ability to edit HDV, which few if any use.
I can confirm that it is the best book I have read (out of four) and most folk on this forum would agree.

  • Which laptop should I purchase?

I'm looking to find a laptop that would suit my needs, unfortunately I'm not to computer hardware savy. I'm looking to buy a laptop in the $400-800 range for not only college but fun as well. I've been through multiple classed explaining flash and after effects. Anyways I'm looking for a laptop that can give me a lot of space while not slowing due to flash or after effects. I use flash the most and retain about 20gb worth of creations on my desktop. Adobe software that would be installed will be Flash, After Effects, and Photoshop not much else though. So if anyone can help me find a laptop or suggest one that'd be great! Sorry if this question was posted in the wrong area of the site, if it was just send me elsewhere.

This loosely meets this forums criteria but Flash is a much less aggressive program on a laptop than After Effects. AE will eat a quad hex workstation with 128GB RAM and make it cry for its mama.
RAM is going to be essential to keep you operating as well as a discreet video card.
Laptops in that price range typically come with integrated video cards and 6GB ram or so. You want 8GB minimum as just Photoshop (assuming you use this too) will happily gobble up as much as 50% system RAM. AE + PS + Flash makes 8GB the bare minimum. Just AE, to be honest, makes 8GB the minimum. If you even think about enabling multicore processing you'll need to dedicate, for safety, at least 1.5GB per core. They're all quad core so at 4 cores that's already 6GB, not including the RAM the OS needs or anything else. Besides, I'd probably never enable multicore processing on a laptop. It will use all the cores anyhow, just slightly less efficient, very slightly.
The video card is the next biggest concern. The problem is if you buy an integrated video card like the Intel HD 2000-4000 series that typically comes on i3/i5/i7 laptops then you share your system RAM with your video card. So consider up to 2GB system RAM to be required for the video card. So a 8GB laptop becomes a 6GB laptop just that fast. So what you want is a laptop with a discreet (separate) video card like a GeForce M or Radeon HD Mobility. They have their own RAM (usually 1GB in that range) and won't bother your system memory, as well as vastly outperform Intel HD graphics when using adaptive or openGL rendering in AE.
As for Flash, it's pretty happy in an environment. Lately I wouldn't have less than 6GB just to have it as even with 16GB I sometimes get "out of memory" errors exporting heavy library projects. I chalk this up to a mem leak in Flash (CS5.5 for me) more than the lack of RAM though as I restart Flash and it's fine again.
All that said, considering their speed, warranty with willingness to service on-location and technical support overall, I'd point you to a Dell Inspiron (or better). http://www.dell.com . I've always been extremely happy with their offerings and have many servers, laptops and LCD monitors from them over the years.
I realize this is $899 but hey it still starts with 8 . This would be easy to carry and sit on  your lap but do note the screen is not full HD. It does have a modern processor, 8gb ram and a discreet video card however. It would be very peppy:
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=fncww03&model_id=xps-15z&c=us&l=en&s =dhs&cs=19
Personally, for something you'd use to make money and would want to hang on to for a long time I'd spend the extra couple hundred, upgrade to a 17.3" screen full HD 1080p if you plan on working on HD video, still with 8gb ram and discreet video:
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dncwn13b&model_id=inspiron-17r-se-77 20&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
