Which is a good laptop with a matte screen

I want to buy an Apple laptop with a bright matte screen. The only option is to buy a pre owned macbook or ibook. Which do you recommend? Is the ibook good or is there a macbook that comes with a matte screen? Thanks.

You will have to investigate the refurbished section of the Apple online store:

There are no more matte display options with the new MBPs.
Ciao.

  • I need to install the HP drivers on a laptop with a broken screen in order to get VGA port to work.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
Hewlett Packard Model: 2000 2a20ca Notebook
Oh my god please give me some insight here, it is so hard to find the right answers and I refuse to lose to this technical box that's driving me nuts! So here's the run down:
My screen broke on laptop...fine. It was connected via HDMI to TV and working fine. Until one day it decided to not turn on. I think due to Windows updates and hubby had no patience so kept restarting
I tried to reload Windows on it, not thinking about the drivers, and I'm pretty sure I managed to reload Windows. Now I need the drivers to install chipset, networking etc. (which I have a disc for)
The problem is I cannot see the screen in order to click "install", I can't see the BIOS or the boot sequence. Ugh! And even if I could, the drivers are not installed to use the CD ROM or VGA port.
I can HEAR Windows start up and turn on! Doo-DO-Doo-DO lol the darn thing is working!
The monitor works in my other laptop.
Would/Should the VGA monitor work if I could get it to start in safe mode?
I've heard of a program that can streamline the driver's into a Windows installation disc so everything is installed altogether but how can I reinstall Windows if the drivers aren't loaded for the CD ROM?
Is there a way to get the necessary drivers installed? or is this notebook now garbage?

    Thanks for all your help!
Getting the drivers is not the problem.  Getting the drivers installed on a laptop with a broken screen...is the problem.
Ok, well sometimes you can't use external monitor to see what is happening in some laptops and the only real way to fix this is to fix the broken screen so you can reformat and resinstall the system again. Those are you only options at this point in time.

  • Replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?

Can you replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?
Where would I get a Matte Screen for a reasonable price if I could change it?

There are a number of issues you should consider before embarking on this project.
    1. If you have a late-2008 unibody MBP, you are undoubtedly aware that there was never any anti-glare option offered for that machine. So there is no anti-glare display that was made to work with it.
    2. If you choose to replace only the LCD panel and not the entire display assembly — which is probably feasible but involves a great deal of painstaking work — you will also need to buy (separately) the aluminum bezel that takes the place of the glossy cover glass panel in models that came equipped with the nonglare screen. The bezel covers and protects the edges of the LCD and the delicate electronic connections there, and hides all that from view.
    3. If you go that route, you will have to make sure that the cabling related to the display you are installing is identical to the cabling related to your original display. This means checking to make sure the cable lengths, connectors and routing both within the display assembly and hinge cover and within the lower case of the computer are all the same.
    4. If you choose to replace the entire display assembly with one that contains a nonglare LCD, you will have the entire, intact glossy display assembly available to sell afterward. If you replace only the LCD panel, the LCD and glass cover panel that you remove will have much less resale value and are likely to be much harder to sell at all, because you won't practically be able to offer any warranty with them and because there are probably far fewer people willing to tackle the fussy, risky display disassembly process than are willing to replace the whole assembly as a unit.
    5. Even if you choose to replace the entire assembly, you will need to verify that the cables dangling from the replacement display assembly are the right lengths and have the right connectors to tie into your lower case properly. Because the assembly will have come from a later MBP model than yours, cable routing and connectors may have changed from one to the other.
If this all sounds more daunting than you were expecting, you may want to consider just applying a nonglare film to the glass covering your present screen. If you aren't happy with the results, you can fall back on the replacement option.

I am purchasing a laptop with a 4k screen (3200x1800) resolution, will Lightroom work at these levels? what is the highest resolution LR will support?

As Rob has pointed out there is no maximum resolution that LR supports, but performance decreases as resolution increases. I'm using an i7-860 quad core system with a 1920 x1080 (2.1 Megapixel) monitor and LR runs well. A 3200 x1800 (5.8 Megapixel) monitor will require ~2.75 x more processing to render the real-time loupe image in the Develop module. Some people have reported sluggish screen updating when making adjustments in the Develop module with even lower resolution monitors such as 2560x1440. Here's a post that discusses the issue:

    Manually migrating
If you prefer to move your files one by one between a Mac and a PC, consider the following options. Some are easier than others, and some require more computer experience, equipment, or resources.
Generally, you can migrate your files to the Mac by:
Copying the files from your PC onto external or removable storage media and then use that media in your Mac to transfer the files to your hard drive.
Sending files over the Internet. If you have an email account, just send the files to yourself from the PC and then pick the mail up on your Mac and save the attached files to your Mac hard drive. You may want to compress larger groups of files first.
Connecting the Mac and PC together through a network to use file sharing to move the files.
Tip: If you're moving files over manually, you'll save yourself some time down the road if you organize your files during the process from the get-go. For example:
Move your PC My Pictures photos to your Mac’s Home folder Pictures folder
Move your PC My Music song files to the Music folder on your Mac
Move your PC My Videos files to the Movies folder on your Mac
Move PC text and PDF files to your Mac Documents folder
Export PC contacts to vCards, and import them into your Mac Contacts
    Use external or removable media
If your Windows PC has a CD or DVD drive, or a USB port:
Copy the files from the PC to an external hard drive or storage device, then reconnect the drive to your Mac and transfer the files to your Mac hard drive.
Burn files to a CD or DVD on your PC, and then use the discs in your Mac to transfer the files to your Mac hard drive.
If you don't have many files, transfer them over email, create zip files for larger groups of files. Mail your files from the PC to yourself, and then pick them up using Mail on the Mac.
    Use a network connection
Connect your old PC to your Mac—either directly or over a network. Before you start moving files over, you should install any Mac software that is needed to open the files. Once you're done, use one of the following migration methods:
    Direct connect
To move files by connecting your Mac directly to your PC (if both have an Ethernet port):
Connect your Mac to your PC using a standard Ethernet cable.
Make sure that both computers are turned on.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using one of these formats:
    smb://DNSname/ShareName
    smb://IPaddress/ShareName
    Click Connect.
Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your PC's workgroup name, user name, password, and the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear in the Shared section of your Finder window on your Mac.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, click the eject button to right of your PC volume to unmount it.
    Network connection
To move files by connecting your Mac to your PC on the same network:
Make sure that both computers are turned on and connected to the Internet.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using this format: smb://ServerName/ShareName, or select the name of your PC in this window (if it appears).
    Click Connect.
Enter your PC's workgroup name, your user name, and your password when prompted, then select the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear in the Shared section of your Finder window on your Mac.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, click the eject button to right of your PC volume to unmount it.
    Alternative methods
Copy files to a shared file server.
Purchase PC Data Transfer service at your local Apple retail store.

  • I bought a MacBook Pro with the matte screen... received a glossy one

I went to the Apple store this evening in Houston and was treated rudely, with the manager somewhat forcing me to hurry up and pay for the computer. They were going to install more RAM for me but then they did not have time (I was in the store 30 minutes before it closed).
I bring the computer home and open it and find that it is a glossy screen. Are they going to give me problems tomorrow when I take it back because it is open?
I am a little disappointed with the whole situation.

    Hello Darren,
If i didn't know better I'd say you were stalking my posts
If you get a minute, take a look inside your MBP to see what chip it came with, you don't have to match brands but personally I think it's a good idea to do it if it's convenient.
Apple ship MBPs with Micron (Crucial), Hynix, Nanya and Samsung ram. The correct Samsung 1gb chip is M470T2953Cz3-ce6. It's $179 at www.macsales.com, and lots of other vendors sell it also - ebay is a good place to look. www.datamem.com were selling them recently for around $130 but it's a good idea to call them and make sure they can supply that exact Samsung chip when you place an order. It comes with a lifetime advance replacement warranty.
For Crucial (Micron) ram, Newegg were selling them for around $140 recently, but stocks may vary. Right now they have them.

I don't have a current source off the top of my head for Hynix or Nanya, but they're not hard to find.
    Best of luck.

All 13-inch MacBooks Pro have got a glossy display. If you want a non-glossy display, you can only get it with the 15-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro.
If you are going to use the MacBook Pro outside, you will need the non-glossy display because you won't be able to use the computer with a glossy display or it will be difficult

  • Switch between Glare and Matte Screen?

    Hello guys,
I was wondering if there is an easy way to switch from a glare to a matte screen in a MacBook Pro.
    Thanks!

The easiest way - Take your computer to an Apple Store or an AASP & tell them you want to switch screens or purchase another notebook with a matte screen. It will cost you!

  • Matte Screen

    Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 27" iMac. I currently own a MacBook Pro with a matte screen. I don't like the on screen reflection that you always get with the glossy screens.
I have also been told that the matte screens are more colour accurate when working with print design (i am a graphic designer).
    My two questions are:
a, do the new iMac's come with the option of a matte screen
b, was i given correct advice regarding colour accuracy on the glossy screens (ie, not being very good)
    Thanks in advance,
    Lee

Lee, If the Apple on-line store options for the iMac do not indicate a matte screen, then that is not an option.
A basic understanding in photography has always been that glossy shows colors and grey scales better than matte.  Same for monitors, while glossy is subject to glare, it provides more accurate color definition.  My daughter is a senior art director for a large ad firm and always insists on glossy screens...her focus is print media so is extremely concerned about color accuracy...and regularly uses pantone calibration.

  • SSD and matte screen

Is it possible to install SSD on the new MacBook Pro with retina display, and does it have a configuration with a matte screen?

    http://store.apple.com
Click on the MacBook Pro item, click on the Select... button, pick your base model and click on its Select button, then Configure the extra options. The options shown are the only options available for that particular base model. The total price refreshes in real time. When done, can purchase online and have it shipped to your home address or shipped to your nearest Apple Store for you to pick up.
The biggest, most expensive Retina can have the 768 GB Flash (not SSD) storage option for an extra $500.
The widescreen/antiglare option is available only on the 15" non-Retina MacBookPro's for an extra $100.
The  15" non-Retina MacBookPro's also have the 512 GB SSD option for an extra $900.

All control buttons such as brightness and volume do not work at all. After waiting for few seconds, it ask me to press Return key if i wanted to put english as my language which i did and still with a blank screen. A few seconds later, the edges around the keyboard became hot. Then i tried to restart it the same process a few times, still the same results. This happened right after i login into my account.

I think you mean Photoshop CS2.  Photoshop 2 is from around 1992.  The old Adobe activation servers were taken down. CS2 is about a decade old Adobe made a new download for old customers that legal customers can download and install. Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products
