Which is best for 3d Animation??

Which is better for 3d Animation and graphic design? Mac or PC...and for whichever is better which laptop would be a good affordable choice? Please help! I know very little of computers.

Ok, time for a little bit of an explaination. Sorry, please sit back, grab some coffee and a snack, this is going to take a moment.
*ahem*
The argument as to which is better between PC and Mac has been raging for years. On one hand, most graphic designers that are small and starting up are convinced that Macintosh Apple is the top dog on this department. Larger graphic firms tend to switch to PC, keep mac, or use something proprietory.
Is Mac better? The general consensus is yes - straight out of the box, it tends to work better. There is no doubt, however, that you can get the exact same results cheaper if you go with a PC, but with a PC, you'll have to configure your system.
So, where does that leave you? It leaves you with program and compatibility. You need to ask yourself, 'what 3d Modeling programs have I been using? What specifications do they require? Do they have a PC and Mac version? If so, which do people tend to say works better with it?'
and..
What is everyone I'm working with going to be using? PC, or Mac? There might be issues converting things and transporting things (or at least extra steps) if I go say, PC and everyone is using Mac.
Answer those questions and you'll have your answer.

  • 5 Ways to Handle Sales Orders in IC WebClient: Which is Best for You?

    Hello Interaction Center community!
If your IC project includes CRM Sales, or if you are considering adding support for sales processes, check out the following article which has been posted by permission of CRM Expert
    (crmexpertonline.com) and Wellesley Information Services.
[5 Ways to Handle Sales Orders in IC WebClient: Which is Best for You?|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/3040e1d3-da06-2b10-afa3-e0952aac10a1]
We want your feedback. Which sales option are you using in your project? What were the main decision criteria? Please reply with your input. At least two points will be rewarded

Over 90% of our orders come in via CRM ISA or EDI.
B/c of the reasons mentioned in the article we use R/3 for entry of the remaining orders as well as order management.  Since R/3 was live years before CRM, there are custom exits and fields required that would be an investment to replicate.  Changing the plant on the line item is a common occurance for our business.  Of the CRM scenarios X,Y,Z we use scenario X where once the order is touched in R/3, R/3 becomes the owner of the order.
Our CRM version just upgraded to 5.0 and our R/3 system is now being upgraded to ECC 6.0.  As our do use the IC web client, we are investigating trying to move to the ERP Sales order.  The upgrade architecture will also open scenario A where either CRM or ECC could change an order even though X should still support our requirements.

  • Ralphie, nooo.. IMovie HD6 which camera best for rotoscoping?

Alright.. I'll approach this from a simpler angle.. I use Adobe products and IMovie for my animations.. i also use IMovie to edit video and then break that video down into per second frames for rotoscoping.. now this was awhile ago when it was a OS 10.1 world and all I had was Imovie 1. I've grown up some since then and now need better resolution. I've learned HD is not well excepted by the HD6 and to stick to DV mini tapes. Which is fine by me. In the past I used a panasonic for my simple needs. i wasn't concerned with high definition, but i am now.
Basically what I need is this..
A miniDV tape camcorder with extremely high resolution.. I ABSOLUTELY need mic jacks (with possible audio controls??) because all camcorder built in mics Suck.. and I need that firewire connectivity.
I've looked at a ton of cameras and I would love certain ones because of the high definition but I can't because of the hard drive crap.. and of course 24p would be nice for me because it would make animating a little simpler and take some work off of me.. does anyone have any camera suggestions?.. the canon HV20 looks nice(i think its close to 1080i?) and so does the Panasonic AGDVX100B(which doenst give a resolution).. thats about my price range.. I don't particularly want to go too much over the $2k mark.

24p (.."progressive" ..meaning that the video frames are complete frames full of video, instead of being two fields which each contain only half the data..) is the frame rate used by movie cameras which use film.
Some video cameras can shoot at that rate - as you've found - but they still record the data onto tape at 30fps (US style) or 25fps (European frame rate).*
The only reason for video shooters to use 24p is if you intend to transfer your video onto film to show in a cinema. Otherwise, there's no point in shooting at 24p. Camera manufacturers push it as being a way to get "the film look" (..so that your video looks more like film..) but 25p or 30p would deliver the same thing on a video/TV screen.
So forget 24p. It's uneditable in iMovie, and it achieves nothing.
The 'p' format, though (..separate frames one after the other, instead of a pair of fields..) might possibly be handy for you, as each frame has full, complete video resolution, unlike normal camcorder 'interlaced' video.
"..he said that the human eye sees at 24 frames per second or equivalent.. so do i need a camera that shoots at 30 fps?.." ..all stuff and nonsense, I'm afraid. Cinema films are projected at 24 frames per second, but humans can see the flicker at 24fps, so each frame is shown twice - the projector shutter opens and closes on each single frame twice as the film moves through the projector at 24fps, with each static frame being revealed and concealed twice while it's temporarily stationary in the film gate.
What you're looking for is a high-resolution camera - preferably with 3 CCDs, so that you get a very sharp, clear image - and the hi-def XH-A1 Canon which you mention is a bit over the top for what you need, but it will give a very good image, and offers 'p' shooting. (Normally at 30fps, which is perfectly good for what you want ..technically it's 29.97 fps, but it's called 30fps.)
The best thing about the Canon - if you really want your video to look like film, and rather less like video - is that the A1 provides all sorts or adjustments such as "black stretch" and "knee adjustment" which make the video image look more like richly-toned film, rather than bland video.
But pretty much any hi-def camcorder used in standard-definition mode will give you the excellent resolution on miniDV tape which you're looking for.
*P.S: Several Sony camcorders purport to shoot 24p or 25p video, but they actually record onto tape a peculiar sequence of video frames which imitate regular 24p, but consist of recordings at 60 fields per second, with some of the fields dropped or doubled to make an apparent 24p or 25p fps. Avoid this "simulated" 24/25p. The Canons do appear to shoot proper 24/25p ..but forget 24p anyway; that's only needed by aspiring independent film makers who can't afford film, so they shoot on video and have that transferred onto film for eventual cinema distribution.

  • Should I use a table for thumbnails? [was: Experts,  which is best for me?]

on some of the pages on my web-siteI am going to have several (perhaps approx 10 pages) with 12 or 15 thumbnail photos on it.
I am then going to link each thumbnail to another page which will have a larger version of the thumbnail along with a brief description of the photo.
I am hoping to have all pages taken from a template base with just a header and a navigation bar (pop menu magic from PVII). I want to link the pages with the large photo back to the thumbnails page.
Before I start on my site, I would be interseted to find out what some of you experts out there would advise with regard setting my site up.
I know there are horses for courses and many different opinions so i don't think I will get a definitive answer.
My question is, for my type of site as described above, which is best, Tables, div tags  or both together. i.e. Div tag for header, div tag for nav bar and a table in a div tag.  and your reasons why would be helpful. I know that this has been discussed many times but I want to know answer specifically for my web-site and not which is best generally.
I hope my question is clear enough and thanks in advance for any feedback.

It may sound as if I am being lazy here but is it easy to integrate JAlbum in to my site. Is it a case of copying and pasting or does it entail a lot of knowledge.
I am not really being lazy, I just want to get things moving so that when I get round to building my site, I can keep moving at a steady pace.
My website which I have up already is www.designekitchens.co.uk if you want to give yourself a better idea of what is required.
Does using a slide show mean that I loose some pages so less chance of being spidered by search engines?
I don't think I could manage all this if there were no forum so thanks again.

  • Flash, Flex, AIR Which is best for producing small interactive apps?

    Hi
I posted to the flash forum but really looking for feedback from flash, flex, AIR users as well
I'm looking for the forums thoughts and advice on which of Adobe's current technology set (CS5) is best suited for creating small interactive applications/packages by users who would not have any background in coding and very little interest in learning coding.
The idea is that users would know basic drag & drop development and maybe extend it to include some basic scripting to wire up elements of it. The ability to develope applications for a range of access points (website, mobile, desktop) would also an added benefit
The over arching idea would be to let the users create some apps/programmes/packages quickly on any topic they like but not bog them down with coding
Which CS5 technologies would be best for that

I don't see how it would be any different for mobile than for desktop, considering the biggest difference is frame-size.
Flash Builder is very good at building fluid layouts.  VERY good.  By extension, Catalyst, built on the same framework, should be too (haven't seen the final version, but the betas were looking good in this regard).
The entire platform has been getting optimized for mobile creation lately, and CS5 should have a lot of tooling towards that end.
I would suggest downloading the trial version of the softwares when they are released (supposed to be mid-may) and playing around with it before you decide.
If you want to, you can hit up labs.adobe.com to download the beta of Catalyst right now, which might give you the answers you need. (Flash Builder was already released, and is available on adobe's site for trial download currently)

  • Which is Best... Connect Devices to Airport Extreme OR Modem/Router? And Which is Best for DHCP/NAT?

I have a modem/router from the ISP and have just purchased an Airport Extreme to use for the WIFI instead of the modem/router.
I have 3 other devices on the network connected to the modem/router via ethernet: AppleTV, Smart Blueray Player and a NAS drive.
So I have the modem/router in DHCP/NAT mode, and Airport Extreme in Bridged mode.
But I wondered if the Airport Extreme should be in DHCP/NAT, the other 3 devices connected to that via Ethernet, and the modem/router in bridged mode.
Which is better, or are they the same?
    Thanks

So I have the modem/router in DHCP/NAT mode, and Airport Extreme in Bridged mode.
This would be the simplest, correct way to configure your network.
Unless you need some special feature from the AirPort Extreme....that would require that the AirPort Extreme handle DHCP and NAT service.....like the Guest Network feature......then it would probably be best to keep things simple and leave them "as is" on your network.
Either the modem needs to be in Bridge Mode and the AirPort Extreme handles DHCP and NAT.....or.....the modem/router handles DHCP and NAT and the AirPort Extreme is setup in Bridge Mode.
it does not really matter which device handles DHCP and NAT as long as your feature requirements are being met on the network.
Personally, I strongly prefer to use a simple modem....not a modem/router....and another separate router to control the network. But, your ISP may not offer that option.

  • Which tools best for which tasks and project workflow planning?

I am just getting comfortable with the basics of several CS tools and often need to use more than one to build a final product. Since I don't have a long history with the tools I still struggle learning which tool to use for specific tasks and then how best to use the variety of created assets in the various programs.
Currently using CS4 After Effects, Flash, and Photoshop to create web flash swf files. Most books, forums, tutorials, etc. focus on a given tool and how to use its features. I have looked but not found books that take you through a project start to end that spans several tools and using the best parts of each to accomplish pieces of the finished project.
Also, I find getting assets from one tool to the next does not always work out so well. For example, a text layer in AE can be exported a couple ways but by the time it gets into Flash it no longer retains the original text layer and is either rasterized or broekn up. So that is where better understanding workflow, if that is the right term, might help me ensure I use the right tool at the right time in the right order to minimize these kinds of problems.

The guys from Waterloo labs did something similar: http://goo.gl/JkOy
They used a sbRIO, which is very similar to myRIO and you should have no problem doing this with myRIO.  More info on their setup can be found here: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/11966/en/.  You may even be able to re-use some of their code.

  • Which tool best for problem checking

guys, which tool, free or not is the best solution to use to check the system/harddrive for problems?

Like Steve says, you should always start out with Disk Utility. It comes with the computer. Another utility that comes with the computer is the Apple Hardware Test (AHT). It's very good for diagnosing hardware problems. However, its messages aren't necessarily the most helpful. However, if the AHT flags an error, it's a good idea to have the computer looked at by an Apple technician.
Two other utilities that aren't free are TechTool Pro and Alsoft's DiskWarrior. However, DiskWarrior is currently not compatible with Intel-based Macs. Its focus is mainly on rebuilding the disk directory, the catalog of which files you have and where they are on your drive. DiskWarrior can often fix problems that Disk Utility can't.
TechTool Pro, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive diagnostic tool. It can check your main memory, ports, etc. One important hard drive test it can do is a surface scan, where it tries every sector on your disk, looking for bad blocks. While the Apple Hardware Test does some of the same tests (memory, processor, etc.), TechTool Pro's results are generally more informative than those from the AHT. For example, you can get a detailed summary of your hard drive's S.M.A.R.T. attributes.
I'll also mention smartmontools, a command-line tool to check and monitor the S.M.A.R.T. system in your drive. This one's for real geeks, though, as you need to download the source code and compile it yourself. However, it also prints out very detailed reports on the status of your drive.
Finally, though these tools are pretty good to have around, they're no substitute for a good backup, either of your data, or your whole system. Sometimes drives just fail without warning, and none of the software would help. That's when having a recent backup is crucial. I'm a big fan of Shirt Pocket's Super Duper!. It makes backing up pretty painless, and has saved me from major heartache a couple of times.
Another drive cloning program is Mike Bombich's Carbon Copy Cloner. It's quite usable, and it's donationware, so the price can be cheaper than Super Duper!, but it's also a bit more difficult to use, especially in making partial backups.

  • Looking at Refurb MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display... Which is best for video editing?

    Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing my current 2010 MacBook Pro with something newer. I do quite a bit of video editing with Final Cut Pro X and some webdesign in Dreamweaver CS6 or Wordpress on Chrome. I need something that will be able to render the Final Cut videos. I'm looking at the refurb 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with retina display, an i5 and 8GB of ram, OR a 2013 13" with 4GB of ram and the Intel Iris Graphics... Which is better? I've heard really great things about the Intel Iris Graphics, but is having the 8GB of RAM more important?
    Thanks for your help!

I would think if you are going to run both of those programs at the same time, or even one at a time, a system with discrete graphic would be a better fit for you.
The next question is if you are doing web design do you really need a retina display. At this time only apple has them so everyother computer viewing your web designs wouldn't see the difference, if there is any to begin with.

  • Which VPN best for iPhone security?

I understand, thanks to  "Kappy -Don't call me late for dinner", that in order to beef up my MacBook Pro's security I can:  "Use software to mask your online presence such as ProxyCap 2.03,MacProxy, Proxifier, or Hotspot Shield."
Are any/all of these also a good choice for protecting my vulnerable iPhone?

There are several security apps in the App Store but most are for data protection. Find My IPhone is very good for blocking the phone and limited tracking but its an "after the fact" app which has some preventative value but I doubt a thief would pass up a chance based on Find My iPhone might be employed against him. There are many things you can do personally to help most are just common sense like:
When outside of your home never leave the phone out of your possession.
Never lay it down on a table or leave it in a car.
Keep it in your front pants pocket or in a jacket pocket.
I know this may sound trivial but I'm surprised at people who think just because they use a password that nobody will bother their phone. I visited my sons college and in their library there were several phones just laying on various tables unattended.
Hopefully someone else can direct you to a better security app than what I saw.

  • Apple 15"  MacBook Pro versus Dell Precision M3800 which is best for LR + PS

    Hi folks,
I am considering buying a 15" Apple MacBook Pro. At the moment I have a Dell Precision M4600 which is great however it is very heavy to carry if I take it with me.
I'm now considering a switch to MAC. I have a a creative cloud license so I could switch,
At the moment my 3 year old M4600 runs with 16 gig memory & a 1Tb SSD + an Intel i7 processor so the laptop, It's  I plenty fast however is a "sturdy brick".
If I got for a MAcBook I will spec 16Gig RAM & a 1Tb SSD. It's a pain you cant add them yourself. As I think this would be much cheaper.
Is any one out here running Adobe LR5 and PS CC on a Apple MacBook Pro 15" with 16 Gig memory and SSD ?
How does it run & is the apple OS much better or better at all than MS Windows7 / 8 ?
Anyone made the switch recently from WIN7 or 8  to MAC OS?
    Thanks for help

    BTW, David
I've tried Prism trial version, the files can be inported into FCP, but they need unbeliveable long period time to render when you finalized the sequence and try to exporting them, BTW, when editing with the Prism converted files, my FCP becomes very slow, or non-responsive so to speak, it wasted me tons of time.
Yesterday, I've tried a software called Pavtube MTS-M2TS converter, it converts many pro vedio formats that can compatible with FCP (even though they are much bigger in file size, plus when I importing the converted files, my FCP show me a notice that says: "the following media files are not optimized for Final Cut Pro. It is highly recommended that you either recapture the media or sue the Media Manager to create new copies of the files to improve their performance for multi-stream playback.)
Therefore, I am looking for a better way to convert the files I've got to optimize my work flow.
    Thank you so very mcuh!!

  • Which is best for converting a novel from Microsoft Office Word file to editable and sharable PDF

I am a writer who needs to convert a Microsoft Office Word File to a PDF file that can be edited, re-formatted and sent to an on line printing company.  They recommended an Adobe PDF - PDX-1a available with Acrobat Professional.  I don't need photos or graphs, etc.  The cover design is Microsoft Graphic Art.  Sizing, of pages will be 5.5 x 8.5.  Number of pages that size approx. 486.
Can you tell me if the PDF Creator is the one I am looking for?

    Good day,
If your Word file is under 100MB in size, our CreatePDF service should do the job for you to create a PDF file. The file won't be a PDF/X-1a, but if there are no photos or graphics, it may suffice. If you must create a PDF that's PDF/X-1a-compliant, you need Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David
