  • Which is better for gaming and why?

    Hi,
I was researching budget gaming laptops(around $1000, INR 55000) and came up with two choices.....
    1)HP Pavilion g6z-1d00 Notebook PC
    http://shopping2.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-Pavilion/A2B39AV?HP-Pavilion-g6z-1d0...
    2)HP Envy 14-2130nr Notebook PC
    http://shopping2.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/QE295UA?HP-ENVY-14-2130nr-Noteb...
Could anybody please tell me which is better for gaming (main purpose and best performance)?
The HP Envy looks great but I don't know much about AMD Quad Core.....
Also, is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on the HP Envy ( AMD Radeon 6630 to a better one) via a HP centre?
It seems to run most games quite well, but I need it to be able to play new games for at least 4 years more (college), while not factoring in the costs for any possible graphics card upgrade....
    Please help!!

    Thanks Huffer _ very useful.
I wasn't aware that there was a heat problem with the i7 processors, my dv8 runs at around 42 to 52 degrees, mind you I don't really put it under much load. I use it to play Blu-ray ISO files on my projector and for photo editing (Adobe CS4), it's an 820QM.
I have also changed the thermal compound to ICDiamond and drilled holes in the speaker cover to improve air flow, that made a difference too.
     @ abhishekmaha
Don't take my comment to seriously, although I think it has some truth to it, it was meant to poke a bit of fun at you.
Heat has always been one of the biggest factors when it comes to any computer, designers try to make them thinner, lighter and cheaper and those types don't work for gaming very well. They're OK for the occasional one, but not on a regular basis. I believe that if you game on any machine that was not meant for it, you will not get 4 years out of it _ 2 years.
I wish I could tell you different, but I am not going to lie to you.
Heat basically affects 3 things on a laptop, the solder that holds the components on the motherboard, any mechanical moving parts, eg the hard drive, fan _ and the battery. You can remove the battery to prolong its life when gaming.
Heat breaks down the solder over time and the mother board simply stops working as far as the hard drive, it stops spinning because the tiny bearing(s) in there dry out and seize up.
If you don't want to use a cooling mat then prop up the back of the laptop, hanging it over the edge of the table will expose the fan intake, but will block off other vents.
60 degrees is a bit warm too, 50 is better or rather, the cooler the better. What ever machine you get, make a note of what the temps are when you first boot up and when it's hot. The idea is to get an average so you can judge when it is dangerously getting hot.
P.S. Be sure and give Huffer a kudos too.

  • Which is better for gaming Java or C++?

a friend of mine told me that C++ is better for gaming, but i'm not sure. the thing about C++ is that i've been studing it for the past 3 years and still don't have a strong grasp of it, but java is much more direct and i'd much rather develop my games in java.

I have finished to programme a game (Space Commanders) using pure java
http://www.geocities.com/ddmusc/SpaceCommanders. Now I am re-programming the game using Visual C++ . Once I finish I shall put the windows version on the same site. It will be an interseting example of differences in performance between java and C++.
For programming I think java is easier since it takes automatic control of memory. Problems such as wild pointers , memory leaks and this kind of stuff are not an issue in Java. Unfortunately this is in itself also a disadvatage since you don't have much control on the amount of memory java is allocating (and at what time it deallocates it).
Java is also a bit slower because of its automaticity and high level structure. What makes me a bit angry about java is that programmes are normally CPU intensive. It is difficulty to run java programmes on old computers such as 486 or Pentium 1. This reduces the portability of the programme which though it can run on many different OSs it can't run on many different computers.

  • Which is better for gaming?

Which is a better gaming solution - quad-core i7 w/ Intel HD4000 (ala new Mac Mini) or my existing setup of dual core i5 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M? Obviously the faster processor is huge, but does the dedicated GPU make up for it when it comes to games?
    Thanks!

Dedicated GPU is far better than the integrated GPU, rgardless of CPU speed.
But even the dedicated GPU may not be up to the task of many hard-core games.  Mac does not make a mac mini to be an optimal gaming system

  • Intel HD Graphics 3000: Does it have updates for mac?

I have a MacBook Pro 13 Inch with Intel Core i7 and Intel HD Graphics 3000. I was just wondering do they get updates for the Intel HD Graphics 3000?
    Thanks

Right. And you may never see anything called Intel Graphics Update, because very often Apple will roll such things into a general OS update and not specify its contents in any detail.

  • Which Imac would be better for gaming?

So i've got a choice between these two models -
    £1329.60
3.1GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
TB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    8gb Ram
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1GB GDDR5
    Apple care
    27 inch model
    3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB (two 4GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M with 1GB video memory
    Apple care
    £1407.60
Basically, the decision is down to, do I want a slightly better graphics card and bigger screen, or a smaller screen and better processer?
I just want to gauge opinions, i'll be using it as my day to day computer as well, some video editing, but nothing too strenuous. How big is the difference in graphic and processing powers.
    Thanks for your help

With all due respect the question was "which iMac would be better for gaming?".  Key word here is 'better', not 'perfect', not 'ideal'; just 'better'. Unqualified answers and/or sweeping statements do very little to contribute to a discussion, let alone answer the question under consideration.

  • Which is better, AMD or Intel?

    Hello everybody,
I still a newbie about parts of computer. I heard alot about Amd is better for gaming but not for Intel Pentium 4.
Can any 1 tell mi exactly what is the different between the two of them and also the advantage and benefit of using each of them.
Cause I be getting a new desktop on this sat,but still unsure of which to get.
    Thanks everyone.
     :P

It really doesn't matter if you choose and AMD or an Intel CPU because it is the graphics card that does all the heavy duty number crunching and graphics rendering to create the lovely eye candy in games that turn us on.  In the small minority of games that do rely heavily on the processing power of the CPU, again, brand doesn't really matter.  Go for an AMD Anthon 2400+ or faster, or, a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz or faster, and be happy.
For the graphics card, choose one either based on the ATI Radeon 9700 chipset or better, or, an nVidia Ti 4600 based
card or better.  Avoid the nVidia FX 5800 like the plague unless you want perforated ear drums.  If you can stand the wait, the FX 5900 based cards will be appearing late this month/early next, and they are bound to be exceptionally drool worthy.
AMD CPUs had the edge over Intel CPUs in their ability to do floating point operations.  3D perpective games require an immense amount of floating point computation, but these days the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) on the graphics card takes over the burden and does a far far better job.
Intel's latest CPUs have caught up with AMD in floating point processing speed.  Intel CPUs were more affected than AMD CPUs by relatively slow computer memory related technology.   The less time a CPU has to wait to read or write data to or from computer memory the better it will perform.  Since the introduction the intel's 875p (Canterwood) and 865p (Springdale) motherboard chipsets, and with their ability to interleave two banks 400Mhz memory (PC3200 memory) to provide the *effect* of 800MHz memory, I suspect the memory bandwidth bottleneck has altogether disappeared.
AMD CPUs plug into socket A motherboards, and Intel Pentium 4s plug into socket 478 motherboards.
Both manufacturers make really great CPUs. If you get an AMD CPU, buy a motherboard with an nVidia nForce2 chipset for it.  For an Intel CPU I recommend an 865p (Springdale) based moatherboard, or an 875p one if you want the very best of what Intel has to offer and you are no hindered by either lack of money or tight-arseness.
    Sir Honky.

  • What will be better deal and better for gaming?

Ok here is my dilemma, I just got from Best Buy an open box macbook pro it's a i7 2.66mhz dual core with a Nvidia GT 330m 512mb graphics card, I have an oppurtunity to return it for a quad core i7 2.0mhz but thing is it only has a radeon 6490 256mb graphics card, ultimately whIch machine is going to be better for gaming under bootcamp? Is it worth the $600'price difference?

  • Which is better for framerate -- onboard sound or SBLive 5.1?

    Heya,
I have an SBLive 5.1 and I was just going to pitch it when I assembled my new rig with the K8T Neo.  But I read a review on HardOCP (here) and it said the onboard sound is incredibly CPU intensive and Q3 took a 21% (!) framerate hit with the onboard sound activated.
They go on to advise that one should use a PCI-based sound solution, but I'm sure they mean one of the newer SB Audigy-based cards and not my (old) SB Live...
So my question is this -- is the SB Live going to be better for gaming performance (framerate) than the K8T Neo's onboard sound?  I hate to have two sound systems on my PC (redundancies always seem to cause problems) but a 20% hit on gaming is unacceptable when I'm coughing up this cash for a supposedly "high end" solution.
    Thanks!
    Z

While it is true that onboard sound can have a major impact on game performance (~20%), what you may not realize is that adding a PCI based solution will not eliminate the entire performance hit.  In other words, even the most modern PCI based sound cards (Audigy 2, for example) do not completely eliminate the load which audio puts on a system.  To see an example of this, Tomshardware conducted a benchmark almost a year ago which compared the framerates of several sound solutions.
Note: the Realtek chip (ALC650 AC'97 Audio CODEC) used in the THG benchmark is an older version of the same integrated audio chip on the K8T Neo (ALC655 AC'97 Rev 2.3 Audio CODEC).  There may be a modest improvement in performance with the newer CODEC.
Now, concerning your soundcard: although your SB 5.1 Live! card may put more load on your system than a new Audigy 2 or Hercules card, it should certainly improve performance when compared to the on-board audio solution.  Sound quality should also improve (although if you have 6-channel speakers, you could only run 5 channels of audio).
The SB Live! series produced beastly little sound cards.  If you want to further improve sound quality (or need more audio channels), consider an inexpensive (~$40) Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.  Or, if you want to improve your gaming performance further, you could shell out ~$70-$100 and get a top-of-the-line OEM sound card.
In general, on-board audio blows.  You get what you pay for.

  • Which is better for my needs?

    Hi there.
I was wondering which is better for my needs? I'm not very familiar on all of this, so any info will help.
I play a lot of games like World of Warcraft, and I do some video editing, + other practical things. I'm debating over to get the 8 GB Memory with a 512 MB Graphics card, or get the 4 GB Memory with the 1 GB Graphics card for the extra money. I'd like to keep costs as low as possible, so I'm also interested in the price/performance ratio.

First, take any iMac model with the standard 4GB memory. You can get top quality memory from Other World Computing or Crucial, amongst others, for about half of what Apple charges. It's easy to put in yourself with Apple provided directions or OWC has video's too. I added two 2GB memory cards in the two empty memory slots to bring my iMac to 8GB.
It sounds like you want the larger screen. I opted for the 21.5" screen with the same graphics 6770M as the low end 27", and have been pleased with it. This, for me, was the price performing iMac.

  • Quicktime Pro VS Sorenson Squeeze which is better for uploading to YouTube?

I'm thinking of buying Quicktime Pro or Sorenson Squeeze - which is better for uploading to YouTube? Which would give my video better quality?
Also, with regard to Sorenson Squeeze: The website says these are its requirements - could someone explain what each of them means in logical terms?
    Mac OS X system requires:
Power PC with G5 processor or greater or Intel processor - (I'll be using this program with a MacBook Pro - will this work?)
Mac OS X 10.4 or later - (Again, will this work with a MacBook Pro?)
    512 MB of RAM
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
DirectX 9.0b or later (What is this and how will I get it? Is it free?)
    * Mac users must have the Flip4Mac plugin from Telestream (Is this plugin free?) ** Windows only feature * Plugin sold separately
Please be as specific as possible.
Thank you so much in advance for answering my questions! It is really helpful!

    First.
You have no control over the conversion to Flash video (done during the YouTube upload) if you use QuickTime .mov format.
    Second.
YouTube does allow H.264 Video for its "high quality" display so you would want a QuickTime .mov container.
Now you are even more confused than when you started.
Flip4Mac allows export from QuickTime (and apps like iMovie that use it) to Windows Media Player (.wmv) formats. They will also be converted to Flash Video by YouTube so you gain nothing by using it.
You don't need Squeeze, QuickTime Pro or the Flip4Mac upgrades. Just use iMovie 7 (part of iLife '08).

all pretty identical tho I would go with cs, just because I
    like the GUI much
    more than other versions...

  • Which is better for bulk message scenario in sap xi RFC or Proxy

which is better for bulk message scenario in ( RFC or Proxy ) ?
Edited by: prabhatxi on Aug 6, 2010 4:44 PM

Proxy will alwaays be better option in this case, as it is adapter less framework, and communication happens directly with XI central integration engine. So it is always fast communication and gives good performance.
But still you should consider other factors, you may consider using RFC as well, as sometime we go for RFC/IDOC as this are the standard interfaces already available rather than creating structure...
May be you can share more info on what type/volume data are you planning to send via XI?
    Hope this cleart your doubt..

Which is better for servers, Apache or Tomcat?

For some reason that link I gave you isn't working right now, but it was today, weird. I would get Tomcat simple because sun uses it in its examples and recommends it. Here's sun's link then, it's probably more useful anyway. http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/

Which is better for newbies, Jgrasp or Netbeans? I need something that explains errors more thoroughly than Jgrasp.
