Which is better - Mac book pro or air book ?

Which is better a Mac book pro or an air book.  What is the pros and cons in using ??

It depends on your preference and how you will use it. Example, if you're a designer, engineer, doing a lot of video editing, sound editing, then you'll appreciate the horsepower the Pro which means "Professional" can offer you. If you're a student, or someone who'll be using primarily for document making or presentation, then the Air would fit you, plus a bonus with the name Air which means "ultra light". The big difference though is the processing speed of the two laptops. The Pro uses full processor speed, while the Air for thermal concerns uses a slightly slower processor.
Good Luck picking the one which will suit you

If or when upgraded to the max, the Retina is a good value.

  • Help! I need a recommedation for a Mac Book Pro or Air for a singer-songwriter who needs to burn CDs and makes 30 minute to hour-long recordings. Thanks!

I am a hypnotherapist and singer-songwriter who purchased Pro Tools and took a brief class, but I'm not an engineer and it is over my head. I am looking at purchasing a Mac Book Pro or Air to dumb down to a Garageband app in order to keep production moving while I learn Pro Tools.
Can anyone recommend which laptop to get? I now have a Dell Studio XPS with Pro Tools on it. Just need to keep my clients happy, and I make recordings that are 30 minutes to an hour long for them, then burn CD's and/or make mp3s that I email to them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Many thanks!

BTW (speaking as a Dad of 3 daughters in Grad school) if you don't already have and use a DropBox account, or some other similar online "cloud" based backup of your school documents, you should start doing so immediately. By keeping all of your important documents in the Dropbox folder on your computer, you have instant access to them from any other computer (or iPad), should you be w/o your computer while in for repairs (or if, God forbid, it is stolen). It's free for 2 GB of online storage, which is more than enough for a few years worth of Word documents, etc. (If you get other people to sign up via your email "invitation", then Dropbox gives you even more free storage space.) Every time you close a document, it is updated on the Dropbox servers (encrypted), if it is in the Dropbox folder (assuming you give it a few seconds to update before turning off your computer). Do a google search of "Cloud based storage comparisons" to compare the amount of free space each of the competing services give you.

Which is better for music production: macbook air or pro?

The MacBook Pro has higher specifications, depending
on the model, and then CTO additional upgrades.
The Air does not have a Retina display, but has lesser
specs, so that may make a difference. They still offer a
    low-end MB/Pro w/ optical drive, w/o Retina; specs vary;
it may work in your instance. You'd have 14 days to take
a new Apple computer back, so keep that in mind.
    Good luck!

Do you recommend mack book pro or air?

There are many factors that enter into the buying decsion. You have not specified the purpose, intent, budget or usage characteristics needed to make an informed judgement.
    Factors include:
    Budget
    Software that will be used
    Need for Ethernet
Need for additonal ports (i.e. extra thunderbolt or HDMI)
Need for built in optical drive
    Portability requirements/preference
    Disk space requirements
    Expandability (RAM, Drive)
    Resolution preference
    Retina screen yes/no
screen size (if considering MBP 15")
I'm sure I am leaving out a couple.

Which is Better Mac or Windows?
I got told that Windows is better than Mac.
    I need to know:
    1. How long an iMac lasts and how long a Windows computer last till they die and not work. (Prediction will do)
    2. Why lots of people hate Mac and say that Mac's are crap.
    3. Is a iMac worth the cost?
    4. Is an iMac harder to use than a Windows computer?

  • Looking to buy a new Mac, which is better Mac Air or Pro?

I currently own a 13.3inch LED-backlit widescreen notebook Mac book pro from 2011 and am looking to upgrade. I'm in my last year of high school and will be starting college next year. I'm really into photography, and use my computer for all my notes and assignments in class. SD card slot is prefreable. Really lost as to what I should get, not looking to spend over $1,500.00 (roughly, open to ideas). Is it worth buying an 11'inch basic? If so how can I connect my SD card? ANY help is very appreciated:)

13" Air with 8gig of RAM
11" Air doesnt have a SD card slot.  Ive owned both 11 and 13" Air, still have a 13", and also a current pro.
If as you said you plan on much photo editing, then definitely get the 13"
The NEW macbook Pro and Air are extremely close in form factor
The newest macbook Pro is essentially a larger macbook Air with Retina display and options for speed in increasing prices up to an independent graphics and quad core processor.
both Air and new Pro now have PCIe SSD and permanent RAM.
The Air is the lightweight portable form factor, fast to boot and shut down, but with longer battery life than any of the macbook pro in 13"
Now the new macbook Pro and macbook Air are extremely close in form factor and nature.
    both have 802ac wifi
both have permanent RAM, no superdrive
both are slim profiles and SSD
The only real differences now are (in the most expensive Pros) faster processors and quadcore processors and top end model autonomous graphics, also HDMI output on the new macbook Pros!. ....and of course the retina display
both are now "very good for travel"
DETAILED bench tests between the new AIR and the new PRO here:
    http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/11/how-to-choose-13-inch-macbook-air-vs-13-i nch-retina-macbook-pro/2/
Other than features the form factor of the Air and Pro are VERY close now,....so now its merely a matter of features and price more than anything.
You need an external HD regardless of what you get for backups etc.   Drop into an Apple store and handle both and make your choice based on features, such as Retina or non-retina, .... both at a distance now look like the same computer.
The Pro weighs more, ....but nowhere near what it used to just a month ago on the older macbook Pros
The NEW macbook Pro is a different creature entirely than the older macbook Pro, .....the new Pro is thicker than the Air, but id frankly call the NEWEST Pro a "macbook Air with Retina display" , or
Maybe a “macbook Air PRO with Retina display”
Instead of Air vs. Pro now,.....its really a smooth transition from Air to pro without comparing say, 2 different creatures, now its like contrasting a horse from a race horse (rough analogy)
Either one in 8gig of RAM (preferably)... the 4gig upgrade costs very little,  the I7 you will notice only 15% faster on heavy applications over the I5, and NOTHING on most APPS.....I5 has longer battery life.
As you see below, the non-Retina 13" AIR is 82% of the Macbook with Retina display in resolution
there is no magical number of pixels per inch that automatically equates to Retina quality.

A huge internal SSD isnt a game changer for anything, you need an external HD anyway
what you WONT READ on Apple.com etc. is that the larger SSD  are much faster due to SSD density

  • Mac book pro vs air

for private equity work, electronic data room, presentations, confidential information memorandums etc. is the mac book air sufficient?

Sufficent, yes. But what configuration are you going for?
There are a few things you need to consider when you ask "Air vs. Pro." The Air can do all you've named, but it does have limitations that the Pro doesn't have--like hard disk space. How much HD do you need? Will there be room left on the Air's HD for you to grow and expand? Will an external HD suffice for stuff you might not need on your laptop but want to have on hand?
Also, RAM--you won't be able to upgrade. So 4GB RAM max. That will suffice, but some people's businesses and needs change radically year to year. If you think you'll be needing more fast, then Pro is better. If not, then Air is perfectly fine.
Other things--any chance you'll need an optical drive? The AIr, of course, doesn't have one, but you can get a portable one if necessary. You might want that if you have to put on programs that come on CD. And, finally, do you need to lock your computer to a table? The Air doesn't have a slot for that, though there is another method of locking it. You should know that, however, as some business folk find that a deal breakers.
On the plus side, SSD rocks, and your thanks to these limitations, your Air will be light and slim. It won't weigh you down and won't no take up much room--makes traveling a breeze. You'll be able to handle it one-handed, slipping it in and out of bags or cases.

    Which Is Better?

SSD drives are superior in many ways and would give the air another +1 of course you can always upgrade.
if size and budget are of no issue,  MacBook Pro Retina 15" would be invaluable to anyone student or not
I am using this macbook air:
1.8GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz
    4GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM

and this macbook pro for my comparison:
2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    4GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x2GB
    500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

  • Is it safe to buy a stolen Mac book Pro or Air?

    Hey!
Someone is selling a Macbook Pro on a cheaper price and it is a used one. I dont knw if its a stolen laptop or the guy is in need of money thats y he is selling the macbook on a cheeper price. I just wana know if i can get in trouble if the laptop is a stolen one? If the laptop was a stolen laptop and i buy it, is it possible that the owner or Apple Inc can track me and i can get in trouble. Help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

If the (original) owner had set up find my Mac and it was stolen, yes, he (and the cops) can find your location.
If that was not set up, you won't be able to do much with it because anything you want to download/upgrade/install will need the original Apple ID associated with it. You may not even be able to log in unless you have the administrator password.
If the seller is legit, then he would be wiping the drive and reinstalling the original OS which is then not associated with his Apple ID - that would be the only way to do it. Those are the questions I'd bring up with him and test: is it the original OS, can I log in, and can I get to the app store and update/upgrade using my own Apple ID.

  • HDMI or RGB: Which is better via MacBook Pro?

Hello. I want to connect my MacBook Pro (with a Mini-Display Port) to my HD flat-screen monitor in my living room. The HD flat-screen monitor does both RGB and HDMI connections. I can do a Mini-Display Port to RGB adapter to connect them. -Or I can connect an HDMI to DVI cable and to a Mini-Display to DVI adapter to make it work. BUT which way is better and will give me better resolution?
    Thanks.

  • Which of these two macbooks (pro and air) will last the longest?

I'm stumped between which of these two laptops to buy, I'll be using it daily at uni. Typical essay writing and internet browsing aswell as some garageband and probably logic use (nothing too heavy). Storage isnt an issue as I'll be buying an external hard drive without question anyway.
    Macbook Air 2013 11inches
    1.3 Ghz dual core i5
8gb ram (paying extra to upgrade)
    128gb flash storage
    802.11ac wifi
or Refurbished Macbook Pro with Retina Display 13inches
    2.5 Ghz dual core i5
    8gb ram
    128gb flash storage
    802.11n wifi
About a £100 difference between the two computers
I would prefer a laptop that is more portable and cheaper like the Air, however I'm willing to sacrifice this if the Macbook Pro is likely to last me longer. I want to get as many years as I can out of the computer. Any advice about which laptop to get? Or to take a different route?

Honestly, there is no inherent reason why one would or should last any longer than the other.  If taken care of and not abused, either one should last many years.

  • Macbook Pro or Air Book please help

im a small business owner and and new to apple, im not techno expert and am trying to work out what is best for me. The Macbook pro or the airbook. So many differences in opinions i would love some feedback form other small business owners on the topic. I use my laptop for lots of interment work, emails, accessing online programs and i do require the storage for photos will in the field. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks )

Personally, it seems strange to be considering both of these machines.  I don't consider them to be in the same class.  A MacBook Air makes a lot of sacrifices to get the weight and thickness down, and you have to pay a premium for a less capable machine.  The MBA is, in my opinion, only for extreme portability if you can do without the things it is lacking.  If you'll need to store lots of photos, the smaller SSD will be less desirable than the larger traditional hard drive in a MacBook Pro, and if you need to process those photos, the slower processor in the MBA would be a problem.
Sounds like you do some work in the field, though what that means is unclear.  If you do a lot of photographic work and have to hike to locations, and you need your laptop at those locations, you probably need an ultra-light computer since you're already weighed down with a bunch of camera gear.  In that case, the MBA would be good.  However, if you want the most capable machine possible and are not overly concerned with weight, go with the MBP.
