Which is better, to wait for Z30 or go with Z10?

Seems the Z30 has an improved antenna for boosting reception, according to preview reports.

Well not knowing how old you are let me give you a couple of analogies.
Years ago I bought Reveal Speakers and sound equipment, they were a long lasting and solid company by all accounts and people went out and bought the best for their systems. No one could have guessed that all the sales they were holding would leave the customers holding the bag. Yep they folded up and shut down their web site and company. No warning no nothing. No support and no drivers, and the people who sent in their devices for replacement or repair were left holding the bag.
Then a company called Storm made some of the best color scanners. Very expensive but a great product. They had a huge rebate program at the time and sold a gazillion units. But they went out of business, again no support, no software, no drivers, and no rebates. They also told customers they would send their broken units back unrepaired. Now these are not cell phones but this could happen to RIM (Blackberry) I have read just saturday that the former co-chairman and a group of investors were thinking of a buy out to acquire the company. by last accounts thats three companies or investment groups looking to buy the company and turn it around.
Now if and I am saying if Blackberry goies kaput, yes your devices will still work on Verizonbs network. But if you had a problem how do you get a replacement device? Verizon does not make cell phones they sell them as an agent for Blackberry. Even if they make arrangements for warranty services who is going to take charge of it?
its no doom and gloom. Its being cautious . When Blackberry was making these new devices they claimed huge sales figures. As it turned out the company its self had to admit they over inflated those figures and it was to fool investors and Wall Street which is how many companies that are near being defunct operate.
Just think about it. Hopefully they will be saved and this will just be a bad memory.
Good Luck

  • How to know the current Task/Job ID in which a request is waiting for

    Hi Team,
Is there any table/view in IDM 7.2 that provides current task/job ID number a request is waiting for?
Even though the last completed phase of the request can be seen from admin UI that only shows the description of the completed steps but not the technical details like task ID/Job ID of the current step.
Knowing the current step/Job ID helps the admin a lot to directly go the step when the request is waiting for long/got failed etc..

    Hi Matt,
    Thanks for your response.
I read few articles in your blog couple of weeks before and they are very much informative.
The information provided in the provisioning queue just shows the task ID and no.of requests (without request nos) waiting in that task.
Basically the question I have mentioned in my previous post is not related to any specific task type. It is like using request no we wanted to know complete request history specially the current task (task ID) at which the request is waiting for.

If you can wait about a 3 months after 10.8 is released this summer and upon new hardware you should be in excellent shape to have not only a fastest latest machine, but a OS X version that all the bugs have been worked out. Plus the three free months of Apple hand holding while they figure out what they did wrong with the new OS version.
If you need a new machine now you'll have to get what you need obviously, but 10.8 should run on it just fine. However know that Apple tweaks things with more currently sellling hardware first, then later gets to the previous released models.
It's been my guestimation that your good for about two year old hardware with very recent OS X release, three years or older hardware you may want to reconsider sticking with the previous OS X version as your hardware is getting dated and likely has only a year left to go anyway (4 year average), so why bother mucking it up, slowing it down and having to buy all new/updated software and third party hardware because they won't make drivers for your new OS version?

  • Am I worth to wait for the new macbooks with snow leopard?

As the day Apple released the new macbook pro 17. I was considering about If I need to wait for the all macbooks with the new operating system. Because I just heard that Snow leopard will come with a 64 bit. But now leopard just is with 32 bit. Some of people said new macbooks with snow leopard will be different from the old models(2008 late), even the macbook pro 17 2009. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot.

I think if you need a new laptop you can take the plunge. If you have a look on the apple website on the SL page you will note the following text near the bottom:
+Benchmark based on the SunSpider JavaScript Performance test on a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and 2GB of RAM.+
That's the sort of specs for a machine that would run the OS well...I think the new 17" MB Pro is well within that ballpark.

  • Better to wait for a year or so?

I have never been an early adopter of new system software, but for various reasons have made what seems to be a monumental error in installing Mavericks not long after its release. I suppose I optimistically assumed that the new OS would be mostly trouble free, with the learning ensuring no repeat of the few stumbles with Mountain Lion. So wrong! My first tragedy was the discovery that Mac no longer supports the use of external USB drives that I want to format for use with MS based devices (TVs, music systems etc). It seems the "free" OSX Mavericks comes at the cost of paying 3rd party developers to regain the functionality that my Mac once had. OK, I won't do that, so I relegated my laptop to being a work machine rather than an entertainment organiser, and spent some time copying all my movie and music files to an old PC.
However, my Mac is even failing as a work machine since Mavericks. It is only a few years old, and despite its 8GB of RAM since Mavericks takes an eternity to boot and shut down. It has also decided that it doesn't like the web - I now have an extremely variable connection, with constant messages telling me my Mac is "looking for Networks". I have tried the various fixes for both problems suggested in many threads here, plus a few more from other sites. No joy. Just a waste of a few days. And the problem is indeed with Mavericks, as nothing else has changed on my laptop other than the OSX. Meanwhile, my girlfriend is sitting opposite me as I write flying through websites and watching Youtube on her ancient little ASUS. My laptop cost about 4 times what hers did, but hers is running about 4 times faster than mine.
So, I wonder if being an early adopter of system software updates is a smart move. Perhaps it is better to wait a year or so until others (ie more technologically literate guinea pig types) have fought their way through the pitfalls that are still left over once the engineers have signed off on the beta versions?

Thanks Arthur - I do appreciate that you (and others on this forum) give time to fix issues. I wasn't even aware that EtreCheck was the clever little program that generated all of those extensive machine profiles that people use on this site. So, for what its worth, here is the EtreCheck report. I hope it has some glaringly obvious (for you) error that I can fix with a few quick deletes.

  • Need to know which is better and faster for laptop memory upgrade

What is the difference and which is better for a laptop memory upgrade:  SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, SIMM?  One site suggested DDR SDRAM and BB suggested SO DIMM

SODIMM is the physical form factor of the module, DDR SDRAM is the actual memory type.
SIMMs are an ANCIENT form of memory module.  If you have a system that uses SIMMS, you will spend less money throwing your computer in the trash and buying a new one.
    Non-DDR SDRAM is also ancient.
Each system can only use one type of memory, i.e. you can't use DDR memory in a system that only used non-DDR memory, and you can't use DDR2 memory in a DDR system.
To find out if the configuration is 2x256 or 1x512, you'll need to look at what is installed.

Anyone has the same issue while syncing iPhone 6 with iTunes? Mine won't go pass the last task which is waiting for item to copy. I waited for an hour and it was the same. I'm using iTunes 12.0.1.26 with OS  X Yosemite.

Since I attempted to sync this morning, I did not have a chance to troubleshoot more before work.
I will try the following later:
    1) Turn off iDevice, restart PC, re-sync
    2) Turn off iDevice, uninstall iTunes, restart PC, re-sync
    3) Turn off iDevice, uninstall iTunes, restart PC, backup to iOS 5.0.1 & re-sync
    4) Return iPhone to Sprint for another one.

  • My Temp Work around for my Outlook Sync with Z10 - Not Ideal but works.

I like many on this forum was pissed that Outlook Sync was not included with BlackBerry Link.. I was fortunate to transfer all my contacts & calendars from my Old Torch 9810 without a problem. The problem is that I need to sync my calendar and updated contacts on a regular bases. I use Outlook 2010 for all my 1400 contacts and Calendar. There is no way I am going to use any cell phone to update this amount of data. I have owned the Z10 since Tuesday Morning and that afternoon I was ready to take it back and I am a die hard BB user..  My wife has an Iphone 5, nice toy, but wont work for my business..  Seriously considered Android phone, but they also have their issues with the Outlook sync via USB..
But after 6 Days with the Z10, I must say I love it. .Didn't at first, but once you figure out, it is truly impressive.. Also love the virtual keyboard, very accurate and amazing.. Love the fact that I can have multiple applications running at the same time.. I use web pages that I need for work as an active screen and a button on my home page.
While waiting for a 3rd party application to implement this (Campanion Link & Deja Office) or to have BB realize that this is serious and add it in their BB link soon.. Cloud is not an option for me.
This is the temporary solution I have right now.
    Option 1:
    1. Wipe off all my Data of my old BB 9810. Make sure lates OS is installed.  Delete all contacts. Sync with Outlook but from PC to Phone Only..  Use BB link to transfer the Contacts and Calendar to the Z10. This will replace any contact you have on the z10..
    Option 2:
Forward any contacts from your outlook as vcard to your Z10 as email.  Click on the .vcard and it will add to contacts.
Again this is a temp soltuion without 3rd party software or Icloud until BB adds this to BB link.

Yes it's back! ( and works! ) Thank you Apple!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Template or Stationery?  Which is better to use for building pages?

I'm going to start building my tier 2 and tier 3 pages, and want the nav bar on every page to update with the new tier 2 pages that I add.
Will a template or stationery page update the nav bar? The content will change on each page, but as I add the tier 2 pages, those will become part of the navigation bar throughout the site. How do I do this, or maybe the better question is...which should I use, a template or stationery?
    I'm using GoLive 6.
    Thanks,
    Kirstyn Sierra

    NAVIGATION AS A COMPONENT:
Basically, you build your navigation into a separate file that only has the navigation links and save it as a Component. Then, in your site pages, you drop in the Component into the page where needed. Later, if you add a page, you add the link to your Component, which then goes through all the pages you dropped the Component into and updates them to match what you just saved. You then re-upload all your modified files so the copy online matches.
    SITE TEMPLATE:
You build the entire page design template structure, putting everything where you want. You define "editable" regions in the template for the content that changes with every page (the main body content - basically everything except the basic structure and navigation) and save it into GoLive's Templates folder. You make new pages based on the template, and everything's locked except the part(s) that change on every page. You add the page-specific content to the editable region and save. Later, if you make a change on the master Template file, those changes are copied by GoLive into any page based on that template, but it ignores the "editable" regions so as not to override the page-specific content.
Either way you go, you'd need to read the manual for your version of GoLive for the specifics on how to set up Templates or Components (and post back here if you run into questions). I don't have a copy of GoLive 6 installed, so can't spout the details off the top of my head :-)
