Which is a better system/performance for the money? Which is better for moderate (2013 and earlier) gaming, video editing, XP mode, etc?
Is the performance upgrade of the w541 over the t540p worth the money upgrade?
Which will hold out better for 5-10 years? No CAD usage foreseen.  Would 32GB be necessary for the w541, or would 16GB be enough?
The camera is something I would gladly do without; its presence is a drawback. Same for fingerprint reader.
Thanks.
(Edited to add)
PS: If the t540p is the way to go, does it make sense, for a $55.00 price increase, to upgrade from a i5-4330m to an i7-4700mq? At that point, is the graphics card (Nvidia GT 730m) bottlenecking the processor, game, etc. so much that the CPU upgrade is a waste of money?

I have the T540p with the i7-4700. It is a strong machine and a CPU upgrade to the 4700 is worth the $50. A 4700 will perform the same in either laptop.
Grqphics cards are always the bottle neck. The GT730M can't do much so if graphics are a concern it's the W541. The W541 also has the new touch pad & thunderbolt, a bigger power supply and more of a workstation feel. That is attractive to me, but, if all you plan to do is spreadsheets and surf the T540p will go right through it.
If it didn't break the budget I would do the W541 with the i7-4810 cpu and the K2100M. I would complain about the price but I think I'd be happier with that config over the next three years.
Sixteen gig of memory should be good & focus on a fast boot drive.
If you call in the order they may give a $50 discount, if you ask.

  • 2.3 ghz G5 DP or 1.33 ghz G4 DP - which is more reliable

Which is more reliable for use as a small email server ? The G5 model has heat pipes making the shelf life shorter.
    I have 2 single processor 1ghz G4s that haven't quit working since day 1.

I'd go with the G5 on the basis that the G4 has to be, what, 7 years old now? Pure mechanical wear on the drives and the power supply in particular mean you're probably living on borrowed time.
That's not to say the G4 is going to break, though, and you could certainly put a new drive in it to reset that particular counter. Given that you have two of them you could even use the other as a spare, depending on what else it's doing.

  • Which Superdrive is more reliable?

I'm having my defective Pioneer superdrive replaced in my new iMac. I have a choice of two drives according to AppleCare. I'm guessing it's between the Pioneer and Matshita. Does anyone know which is likely to be more reliable? Thanks,
    Bill

No idea which is more reliable, but the Pioneer is relatively new,
and there are far more Matshitas in the iMac installed base. So,
the Matshita might be a little safer WRT potential driver "issues."
BTW, Matshita is short for Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd.,

  • Better Value between Macbook Pro 17 inch stock or 27inc iMac i5 stock

I need some help, which would be the better value between a stock 17inch macbook pro and a stock i5 27inch iMac? Using it for school, small video and picture editing. Price not a concern, I'm just looking for the better value in the computer itself. Meaning resale, upgradeability, (plan to use for at least the next three years)!

I'm saying to myself why spend the additional $500 for a slower machine?
Um...because it's portable? Because if there's a blackout you can still use it for 8 hours? Because if you travel to another country you can still do your video editing there rather than waiting to get home with all that film and photography to do it? Because it fits in a bag and doesn't require a desk? Because it can be hooked up to larger monitors for presentations in class?
I mean, Dude, it may not seem like a "slower" machine is worth $500, but it's not cheap or easy to make something that is as fast and does as much as that 17" does in something that thin and that light. There is a battery, a camera, an light sensitive keyboard, a gorgeous screen, and all the other components squeezed into that narrow and limited diameter...and you think that's not wroth $500 extra dollars because it's slower than a 27" iMac? If you love the speed and power, go 27" iMac. It's a great, great, machine. Awesomely fast, powerful and beautiful. But don't tell us "cost doesn't matter" and "resale" is what you're interested in and then complain about the 17" costing extra but being slower. You're being dishonest about what matters to you there.
If cost of the machine and its speed matters (far more than portability)--and you want the fastest and cheapest, then it's the 27" iMac. If cost doesn't matter, and you want the best resale value for when you sell the machine after three years, then it's the 17" MBP. That's just how the market is. People like speed yes, but they love portability.
Edited to add: but you might want to wait. Many are saying that the MBP might get a bump to an i5 and that would improve the speed of a 17" considerably.

  • Which E-business suite Administration side more reliable ?

    Hi All ,
Auto-configuration tool , billing and customer contact (in the telecom space), stock management (retail segment) and an executive dashboard that can summarize transactional data already exists
We are Planning R12 re-implementation Solutions for – Pharma, EPC, Manufacturing, Financials, Leasing, Retail industries.
Can anyone tell me which solution (ASM/RAC/Clustering/Clouds and accelerations) on administration side looks more reliable and user-friendly in future.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    1)ASM is must for RAC
Oracle recommends ASM for 10g RAC deployments, although CRS files cannot be stored on ASM. In fact, RAC installations using Oracle Database Standard Edition must use ASM.
Pros: File-level striping and mirroring; ease of manageability through Oracle syntax and OEM.
Cons: ASM files can only be managed through an Oracle application such as RMAN. This can be a weakness if you prefer third-party backup software or simple backup scripts. Cannot store CRS files or database software.
2)what do you mean by cloud?public cloud?
3)You can use acclerators if the client ur implementing is comfortable with it.
Use RAC if its is 24X7(high availibility) with ASM...acclerators are good for implementing projects fast..there is no relation betweeen RAC and Accelerators

  • 21.5" i7 vs 27" i5 -- which is more powerful?  What about video editing?

I'm trying to decide between a 21.5" iMac with 1TB and i7 and the next step up -- the 27" with an i5.
My budget really was only for the 21.5 -- which comes out at 1699 -- the 27 would be 1999 --
My main current needs are: Animation (Flash, etc), CS Suite (40 layer Photoshop), other programming (HTML, CSS, Canvas, etc), and music (8 analog in, effects, Logic).  I hope to start doing some HD video work (artistically) -- but due to focusing on music haven't really done much with it.
The person I spoke to at the store said if I were going to do "serious" video editing (Avid) then the 27" with the 1GB of memory on the video card would be better -- for video editing that is.  He said that for everything else (CS Suite, etc -- and I believe he said Final Cut as well) the i7 with the 512MB video card would be better.
So -- here's the rub -- I'm on a limited budget and I think it might make more sense to put the extra 300 into RAM (they offered to bump the RAM to 12GB for $150 extra -- is that way too much?), or into an add'l monitor (I'm not taken with the glossy iMac screen as a main screen -- and that's also why the 27" screen wouldn't do much for me).  I do want to do some video production, but I don't plan on getting Avid or anything like that anytime in the foreseeable future -- I'd probably be doing 10 min video pieces and for what I currently need the computer for the i7 with more RAM is much better.  I just don't want to feel totally stupid down the road.
    So:
    21.5" iMac, 2.8 GHz i7, 1TB drive, 12GB RAM, Radeon 6750 with 512MB RAM
    vs
    27" iMac, 2.7 GHz i5, 1TB drive, 4 GB RAM, Radeon 6970 with 1GB RAM
    Thanks

Similar question ... looking at nearly identical cost: 21" i7 2.8 vs. 27" i5 - both with the 512 6750 video card.  (I'll buy my RAM upgrade on-line - will take either one to 16GB.)
Both have same video memory.  I don't feel I need the bigger screen size if the processing power is a better value for video (can always add another, larger monitor).
This will be a video & audio editing computer.  I have a TON of old Hi8 home movies to move to digital for archive and eventual editing, will capture via firewire Digital 8 Handicam.
My main new video projects will be <10 min - primarily for web delivery.  Business sales/education and training.  Pretty sure I'll want to upgrade with FCPX.  I'm a believer in that you can always compress quality down, you can't enhance poor quality source up.
I have a background in video production (20 years ago), no expreience with NLE, but want to get back in.
I guess the i7 power will hold up longer and allow for growth of my abilities/uses of the software down the line ...
Maybe I've answered my own (& the OP's question) ...

  • IN operator with more than 1000 values

    Hi,
For a given list of IDs (PKs), I need to fetch the corresponding rows.
The problem is that I have more than 1000 values and as far as I know that IN operator is limited to 1000
    values.
I thought about using UNION such that each Select contains up to 1000 IDs.
    example":
select * from temp where id in(1....1000)
    union all
select * from temp where id in(1001....2000)
Is there a better way to do that?
    Thanks
    dyahav

As others have presented technical solutions, i'll present you a logical one (seemingly logical anyways, but it will depend on your application).
I have seen some applications where you get
select * from some_table where ... <conditions>;That result set is returned to the front end and presented to the users who then pick a series of records and submit another request to the database which ends up being...
--note, this could be a many table join, with lots more information that just the some_table, this is illustrative only
select * from some_table where pk_value in (super_super_duper_list_based_on_last_result_set);If this mimics what you have in your application, i'd recommend just fixing it so the users can select a reasonable set of data, OR the entire set (in the last case you'd just send the <conditions> instead of a massive list of PK values).
Again, highly speculative but i thought i'd mention it in the off chance it's useful to you.

  • Which would be a better purchase, Zen Touch or Zen Mic

Okay for christmas this year I am asking for an mp3 player. Ive done my research and decided between the Zen Touch or Zen Micro so that I may take advantage of Napsters music downloading service. Now my delima is which would be a better purchase. Ive read reviews on amazon, epinions, and cnet. As far as the Micro goes its a love/hate type of thing while i've read only good reviews of the Touch. Now the Touch doesnt seem as popular and for what reason I dont know. Also i've noticed the Micro has a great number of more accessories than the Zen Touch. Now taking into consideration accessories and durability which would you say is the better LONG term purchase?
    -Thanks

If you are planning on using subscriptoin music, I would go with the Touch, as it is a 20GB player and you have unlimited music to download (more space=more music )
Don't get it wrong, the Micro is awesome, I would have got it if I didn't have so much music.
And my guess as to why the Touch is not as popular as the Micro is that people don't like the way it looks and it's size (which is understandable, because of it's 24hour battery).
The Touch is also a great value, because it comes with an AC power cable (the Micro used to come with this when it first came out, but now it is sold separatley), and a carrying pouch (I replaced mine with a better because you can't aceess the MP3 player while it is in the pouch, making it a bit inconvenient). On top of it all, the 20GB version sells for around $200. And with the new firmware, the "over-sensiti've" touchpad that many reviews claim is now taken care of, and it is as easy to use as the Zen Micro's touchpad .
All in all, it is down to what you want:
a 5GB MP3 player that looks cool and comes in 0 different colors
or a 20GB player that comes with a few extra acessories. Both are around the same price (the Micro may be $20 cheaper, if it is on sale).

Pl help by writing some sample code.
    Thanx in Advance.
    Pradipto

    1) Create CallableStatement
    2) For each of returning value you have to call RegisterOutParameter()
    3) For others user setXXX() method depending on type of parameter
    4) call
    5) use vars registered through RegisterOutParameter() - all your values should be there

  • Power view display more than 500 values in a field

From my research, it looks like the limit of values in a Power View filter is 500.  does anyone if this is configurable to increase (which
I am doubting based on Microsoft’s website as I’ve copied below).  If it is not configurable and we cannot display more than 500 values when filtering, then what should be done
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh231514%28v=sql.110%29.aspx

You could always do the concatenation on the client. ie: "select action1, action2 from tableX" and then create a boilerplate object with text that references both of these columns. (eg: "&<action1> &<action2>"). This should give you the concatenation you're after.
Another alternative is to return a "long" column instead. The 4000 is probably down to the varchar datatype restriction.

  • Display more than 15 Values in Chart

    Hi,
I am pretty new to apex, and while this looks like a very basic problem, I couldn't find an answer to it on the web:
How do I display more than 15 value in a simple 'Horizontal 2D Column' chart?
I know that the SQL-Query returns 26 rows, but only the first 15 are displayed in the graph.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
have a look at the page with the SQL query. There is a field labeled "Data Point Limit" or "Maximum Rows"
which is defaulted to 15. Just increase this number ...
    Does this help ...

  • Set more then 3 values in link

    Hello,
    i am using oracle 10g apex 3.2.
    I created a interactive report,with shows 5 columns in page 1.
Now 2nd column i made it as link.
On clicking that link it goes to page 3.
When i click the link i want to set few items of page 3 with page 1 values.
But in the column link(report attributes) of the interactive report i could see only 3 items can be set.
What to do if i need to set more then 3 values?
For More info on what i am doing---------
Page 3 is having a form whose values i need to fill from page 1.A user need to click the link i.e. col2 on page 1 and then it goes to page 3 and could be able to see some values in the form of page 3 already filled.I want to send total 6 values.
    Thanks
    Swapna

    Hi,
    Option 1>>>
When you click link on interactive report , send the primary key to page 3 which contains the form.
In page 3 add a on load , before header process which will populate the other items based on the primary key value..
    Option 2>>>
You can enter comma separated item names / values in the link tab of interactive report..
eg. Name Field you can P1_ITEM1 , P1_ITEM2 , P1_ITEM3 and in value field you can enter the corresponding values eg.. #field1# , #field2# , #field3#

  • How to Select More then 1000 values in Multi-Select prompt!!!

    Hello Users,
I have Scenario where i have to pass all the values from prompt to report and the values in the prompt are coming from session variable, so whatever value access user has the report will run with that only...
Now the question is that Multi-Select Prompt is not able to take more then certain values, so is there any way that we can increase the limit for selected values??
in-short how to increase the limit for selected values in multi-select prompt??
    Thanks In Advance!!!

    Hey David,
The Scenario is like, we have data level security on "Unit" attribute. now based on the user selection when user logs in he should able to see the report only for those units which he/she has access.
in total we have 1800 units available, now for 5-10 units access is fine, but the question will arise when user will not have only some units access from 1800 units.
because report will not take those values from the multi-select prompt reason is that multi-select prompt is not able to take more then certain values in selected side.
now in multi-select until-unless u have data coming in selected side those values will not pass. so i have kept the sql in default for that prompt.
so when user logs in he will able to see those values in selected side for the multi-select prompt, but when values increase from some level it's going automatically in un-selected side.
i want everything on selected side of multi-select prompt.
Let me know if you need any further details.
